Brett Favre is coming back home….to Lambeau Field that is, as the president of the Green Bay Packers, Mark Murphy, is planning to hold a celebratory day for the legendary quarterback, and he also plans to retire his number.
All of this was supposed to take place some time last year, but it never did due to timing and schedule conflicts.
During most of 2013 Favre was busy being the offensive coordinator for Oak Grove High School in Mississippi, and he took the team all the way to the state championship game, where they won.
As a result, Murphy was unable to coordinate a proper time for Favre to return to Lambeau, but he said it will definitely happen in 2014.
As most know, Favre was traded by the Green Bay Packers in 2008 where he went to play for both the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings, and towards the end of his stint with the Packers, he and Murphy had a big, and very public falling out.
But the two have since patched things up, and they’ve spoken on the phone several times in recent months.
In a 2013 interview, the future Hall of Famer said he and Murphy were tired of having friction, and he admits both were wrong.
“The things that transpired that led us to breaking up if you will, to me, are over and done with,” said Favre.
“I don’t think either side is trying to push the issue. I think Mark Murphy–and Mark really came in the last few weeks of my career in Green Bay–he kind of came into a hornet’s nest if you will. He’s been extremely great in trying to make this work. In our discussions, it will happen. I think both sides are genuine.”
In addition, Favre says mending his differences with Murphy was important for not only himself, but for the entire city of Green Bay, and if they didn’t patch things up, it would look bad for the entire organization.
