    Bret Michaels Horrifies Bandmates With Bloodloss Following Surgery

    Bret Michaels has been hospitalized over the last several weeks in a number of different hospitals and has undergone surgery on his kidneys, but his bandmates say the painful ordeal hasn’t kept him from trying to perform.

    The 51-year old rocker, who was diagnosed with diabetes when he was young, had health issues earlier this year and was rushed offstage after suffering from low blood sugar and the flu. More recently, he had two stents put in during surgery but insisted on performing, which caused him to harm himself.

    “Over the last two weeks Bret was in and out of 6 hospitals throughout the Midwest. Including the incredible Mercy Hospital of Northwest Arkansas. The staff and doctors were unbelievable and took incredible care of Bret. Bret continues to be steadfast in his dedication to bring the music to the people. He truly has to be held down to not perform,” said guitarist Pete Evick. “This time it went real bad. During the show he gave 100 percent, but he hurt himself. Jumping around with two stents was a bad idea. I can’t explain the amount of blood or where it came from, but it was horrifying on his bus after the show.”

    While Michaels is dedicated to his fans and doesn’t want to cancel any shows, his Facebook page has been lit up this week as those fans plead with him to take care of himself.

    “ALRIGHT BRET FANS… ENOUGH IS ENOUGH… LADIES GET THE HAND CUFFS AND THE ROPE… TIE THIS MAN TO A BED AND GIVE HIM FOOD AND MEDS…. MAKE HIM REST…. GEESH BRET WE DONT WANNA MORN YOUR LOSS……. STOP AND REST,” wrote fan Darlene Stevens.

    Michaels suffered a brain hemorrhage in 2009 after a piece of the Tony Awards set struck him in the head; he later had to have an appendectomy, which may be related to his recent kidney issues. Despite the hospital stays, more tour dates have been added to the list on his Facebook page.

    “While the last few weeks have been tragic, Bret continues to be an inspiration in his ability to push on. In typical Bret fashion, the fans come first,” Evick said.

  • Bret Michaels Headlines Benefit Concert For Tornado Victims In Pilger, Nebraska

    Many believe that music has healing powers, and this is what rockstar Bret Michaels wanted to prove. On Sunday he headlined a benefit concert for those affected by the twin tornadoes that hit the town of Pilger in Nebraska in June. The town has been struggling to rebuild itself for two months, and many considered Michaels’ concert a welcome respite as well as a way to have fun while contributing to relief efforts.

    “It’s great that he is doing that for us, I mean I am grateful for it. I mean I wasn’t going to miss it, I knew that,” said Billy Mitchell, a long-time resident of Pilger, to WOWT 6 News.

    People reportedly lined up outside the DeVent Center in Norfolk, Nebraska hours before the show, which was sold out by the end of the night. Donations were coursed through Michaels’ foundation, Life Rocks, with $45,000 raised just by the concert.

    “We want people to feel great.  I want to make this a celebration of the spirit of really what Nebraska is,” said Michaels. He sang hits such as “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and “Something To Believe In” to a crowd that rallied in support of the town of Pilger.

    “If I could play the music and live out my dream, I feel blessed, I feel thankful and to be able to give back a little or a lot, whatever we could give back into that community that is a great day,” Michaels said to WOWT 6 News.

    The story of Pilger resident Kandi Murphree was one that made the rounds in the media. Her story illustrates the extent of the damage that the tornadoes made on Pilger and the people who lived there. The tornadoes claimed the life of her five-year-old daughter, Calista Dixon, and left Murphree in a coma for two months. She recently awoke to find that she had lost Calista and no longer had a home. However, efforts like Michaels’ to help Pilger are giving her the strength to move on with her son and daughter.

    “I’m dealing with it now, and we’re going to be 100 percent,” said Murphree.

  • Bret Michaels Parodies Himself; You Can’t Look Away

    Bret Michaels didn’t invent cock rock, hair metal, metal ballads, denim metal, glam, do-rags, tattoos, eyeliner, car crashes, band feuds, ripoff songwriting, MTV celeb reality shows, shameless country music crossover attempts, or rehab. But Bret Michaels has dipped his boot toe into every bit of it and come out looking like a pioneer.

    With his band Poison, Michaels tore up the music charts for a few albums, eventually becoming the subject of a VH1 Behind the Music episode. His exploits are the stuff of semi-legend, always playing silver medal at best to the vanguard of Gene Simmons, Nikki Sixx, David Lee Roth, and more than a few real rock and roll artistes from across the pond. Bret Michaels can’t tie Iggy Pop’s shoes.

    But Bret Michaels can sell vehicles. Nissan recently tapped the “Talk Dirty to Me” singer to do commercials for their “Tough Love” ad campaign that promotes their line of commercial vans.

    Throughout the video for Michaels’ cover of Lionel Richie and Diana Ross’ hit song “Endless Love’, Michaels pulls out almost every rock video icon cliche that has made him the man that he is today. Watch the video below and see if you catch:

    * chick guitar player in Daisy Duke shorts and leather cowboy hat
    * backlit silhouette shots
    * a golden microphone
    * over-emotive hand gestures
    * outside band shots
    * tunnel chamber shots
    * heavy metal hand gestures
    * wind tunnel hair blowing
    * microphone cable spinning,
    * hot chick with glasses
    * a jackhammer as penis gesture
    * a guitar on fire
    * riding atop a vehicle
    * getting a tattoo
    * pointing at the camera
    * gratuitous sparks and smoke
    * getting tossed a guitar
    * smashing an acoustic guitar
    * panoramic camera swing around soloing guitar
    * duckface lips
    * back-to-back pose with guitarist
    * smashing an electric guitar
    * slo-mo everywhere
    * walking away with guitar case
    * driving off into the sunset with the hot chick
    * a flame-thrower
    * fireworks
    * a bobble-head doll(?)

  • Bret Michaels Helps Out in Tornado-Ravaged Town

    Bret Michaels and his band pitched in to help clean up efforts in a tornado-ravaged town in Nebraska. It was just over a week ago that Pilger, Nebraska sustained considerable damage and destruction following an EF4 tornado that touched down there. More than half of the town of 350 was impacted by the storm. Two of the town’s residents–one of them a little girl–were killed.

    Michaels and his band were taken inside the Pilger Middle School to see the damage that took place there.

    “I just got that lump,” he said as he observed the rubble. “Thinking about the children in this town, it takes your breath away.”

    He added that he had no clue exactly what such devastation would look like up close.

    “It’s one thing to see it on TV. But when you actually get out here, it’s completely different. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” Michaels said.

    Bret Michaels and his band members and crew worked cleaning up rubble at the home of Tim and Betty Maly, who had nothing left on their property besides their basement.

    “It’s wonderful. You can’t thank them enough. People take time out of their days off or use their spare time to come here. It’s just unreal,” Betty Maly said of the former Poison front man and his fellow musicians.

    Bret Michaels knows all about people helping other people. When he suffered a brain hemorrhage in 2010 he was surrounded by many who supported him in his time of need. Perhaps this is his way of giving back.

    Regardless of the reason behind his volunteer actions, Bret Michaels is certainly setting a wonderful example for other celebrities–showing that not only is it important to give of one’s wealth, but that rolling up one’s sleeves and pitching in for the dirty work is often important, too.

    In addition to working their clean-up details, the former Celebrity Apprentice winner and his band signed autographs for the people of Pilger, as well as for other volunteers.

  • Bret Michaels Updates Fans After Canceling Show

    On Thursday, May 29, Bret Michaels had to stop performing during the middle of a concert in Manchester, N.H., after suffering from a medical emergency.

    As previously reported by Webpronews, Michaels was three songs into the show when he had to rush off of the stage. Bret is normally always on top of his sugar levels, since being diagnosed with diabetes as a child, but this night he didn’t realize that his sugar levels had dropped incredibly low.

    Before leaving the show, 51-year-old Michaels took to the stage one final time to apologize to his fans and then he was taken to his bus, where Michaels’ guitarist Pete Evick said he could barely speak. Despite his condition, Michaels asked Evick to apologize again to his fans.

    Now, nearly a week later, Michaels is taking the time to update his fans on his condition. Michaels shared a selfie on his personal website and captioned it by saying: “Apologies for the pale white face. It’s the first day I’ve been able to fly to the kids. There is not enough thanks that I can send to the awesome fans, friends, family and medical staff for their help and well wishes. You all rock!”

    Michaels also had to miss his concert on Friday at Wilkes-Barre, Pa., due to being “under strict medical direction.” “Doctors have ordered him to let the flu virus run its course and let his blood sugar rebalance and remain consistent,” his website said at the time.

    Michaels is now feeling better, and is hoping to get back to performing soon.

  • Bret Michaels Suffers Medical Emergency At Concert

    On Thursday, singer Bret Michaels had to stop performing during a New Hampshire concert, due to a medical emergency.

    According to Michaels’ guitarist Pete Evick, Michaels was three songs into the show when he had to rush off stage. Michaels was diagnosed with diabetes as a child, and a crew member explained that his blood sugar levels had dropped incredibly low.

    Michaels hated to have to cancel the show and took the stage one final time to apologize to his fans. He was then taken to the bus, where Evick said he could hardly speak. Despite his condition, Michaels begged Evick to apologize again to his fans.

    Evick then took to Michaels’ Facebook page to detail the incident, and let fans know what exactly happened.

    Breaking News: Message From Pete Evick Regarding Bret Michaels’ Medical Emergency

    This is a message I never imagined I’d have to post. Tonight in Manchester, NH 3 songs into the set Bret had me sing a song as he rushed off stage. In the 9 years I’ve stood next to him, I’ve never seen a look like the one on his face as if I was a complete stranger. One of the crew returned instantly to notify me that Bret’s blood sugar was extremely low.

    He returned to the stage only to announce that he could not continue. As you all know he is a health fanatic and fiercely monitors his blood sugar, he basically had to be dragged off the stage in his sickest of conditions. When I rushed to the bus he could barley speak, but begged me to apologize to the fans and seemed only concerned for them.

    As of now he is with paramedics being evaluated. We will keep you posted throughout the evening.

    Pete Evick

    Team Michaels later posted a post of Michaels’ Facebook account, thanking the paramedics for helping him through his emergency. “Sending a huge shout out to all the paramedics both on and off duty who have assisted Bret tonight,” the post read. “No words can thank you enough for your help. – Team Bret.”

  • Bret Michaels Meltdown Follows Apprentice Firing

    The first episode of reality TV show All-Star Celebrity Apprentice premiered this past Sunday, bringing back popular celebrities from past Celebrity Apprentice seasons. Celebrities such as Marilu Henner, Penn Jillette, and Dennis Rodman are now competing against one another for the affection of Donald Trump.

    As is custom for an Apprentice show, one of the celebrities was unceremoniously dismissed by Trump at the end of the episode. Surprisingly, the first celebrity to go was none other than rocker Bret Michaels. Though Michaels had won the third season of Celebrity Apprentice, and was the only contestant to have won a past Apprentice season, Trump fired the star for a poor fundraising showing. Both Brande Roderick and La Toya Jackson were able to escape the boardroom at Michaels’ expense.

    Before his appearance on the show, Michaels stated that some people though he was “crazy” to go back on the show after already winning. It’s a sentiment that even Trump expressed during the boardroom portion of the episode.

    Radar Online is now reporting that Michaels took the firing extra hard. The report cites an unnamed “show insider” as saying that Michaels “was crying and totally distraught.”

  • Bret Michaels Is Single Once Again, Ladies

    Bret Michaels Is Single Once Again, Ladies

    Bret Michaels, famed Poison rocker and star of the VH1 show “Rock Of Love”, just can’t make his engagement stick. He’s given a ring (the same ring, actually) to his longtime girlfriend–Kristi Gibson–twice now, and both times they’ve ended up calling it off.

    Gibson, who is the mother of Michaels’ two children, called the ring a “friendship ring with benefits” after Michaels presented it to her two years ago during the finale of his other VH1 show, “Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It”. Apparently, she was trying to send a message he wasn’t ready to receive.

    “Although the couple have separated they remain great friends and are committed to jointly raising their two daughters,” a statement released by Michaels’ rep said.

    Poor Bret can’t seem to find the right one. After an exhaustive search for love on his VH1 reality series, he came close with a girl named Jes, but that fell through when everyone realized he had feelings for party girl Heather. But given what he had to work with, it’s amazing he even found those two. Here are some of the best clips from the first episode of the show. Caution: NSFW language.

  • Bret Michaels Settles Suit with CBS Over Injury

    Bret Michaels, lead singer of the 80’s hair metal band “Poison”, has settled a lawsuit against CBS and the Tonys after a stage set piece struck him on the head. The injury, he claims, later resulted in a severe brain hemorrhage. Details surrounding the settlement were not released to the media.

    According to Michaels, producers of the 2009 Tony Awards didn’t tell the musician how to properly exit the stage after performing with the cast of “Rock of Ages”, resulting in a fractured nose, split lip, and serious head trauma. Michaels claims that the incident caused him to suffer a subarachnoid hemorrhage, an event which almost ended his life.

    CBS and the Tonys released a joint statement, claiming “The parties have reached an amicable resolution of their dispute and the case has been settled. The terms of the settlement will not be disclosed.”

    If watching someone take a set piece to the face is something you fancy, the video of the incident has been embedded below. Millions have already watched — and apparently enjoyed — Michaels’ taking the blow, so why not join in the fun. Honestly, it looks pretty painful, so I can’t say that I find the humor in it.
