Now, Frey’s good friend and collaborator Bob Seger has revealed some more details surrounding Frey’s illness and death.

According to Seger, Frey had been in the hospital since November.

“First he caught one set of pneumonia, then he caught a very virulent set of pneumonia,” Seger told the Detroit Free Press. “They were trying like hell to keep him alive. He’d been at Columbia University Medical Center since November. (Eagles manager) Irving (Azoff) pulled every ace out of the hole — he had the eight best specialists working on Glenn. About a month ago, they had to throw up their hands.”

Seger, who met Frey in the 1960s, said Frey was a joy to be around.

“I knew him for 50 years,” Seger told Billboard. “He was a great kid. I always kind of thought of him as my baby brother, a little bit. He was f—ing brilliant. He was a joy to be around. I always looked forward to seeing him. It was always memorable. He had an amazing sense of humor and was just smart, whip-smart.”

    RIP Glenn Frey.

  • Bob Seger is ‘Still the Same’ and Back on Tour

Bob Seger is ‘Still the Same’ and Back on Tour

Bob Seger is ‘Still the Same’ in some ways but very different in others. The singer doesn’t smoke as much as he once did, and he bikes an average of 10 miles per day. So why the sudden interest in his health? The 69-year-old just released a new album called Ride Out, and is launching a 25-city tour starting in November. He’s going to need all the energy he can get.

“I think I’m in pretty good shape,” Seger said in a recent interview, also mentioning that a colonoscopy from a few years ago was clean and he just had a checkup, so he’s ready to hit the road.

On November 19th, Bob Seger will kick off his tour in Saginaw, Michigan, and will travel from city to city until well into 2015. He’s not sure where his music will take him after that.

“I just take it tour by tour,” he says.

Bob Seger feels somewhat challenged by how hard it is to get radio air time for his new songs these days.

“It’s half the size it was 10 years ago,” he says of the industry–due, of course to this digital era of music.

One of the songs on Seger’s new album is for and about his wife.

Seger assures fans that in addition to his new songs from Ride Out, he will still perform some of his tried and true hits from days gone by–including ‘Night Moves,’ ‘Mainstreet,’ and ‘Turn the Page.’

“There’s about eight of them that you cannot not do,” he said, noting that from time to time he and his Silver Bullet Band have tried eliminating a few oldies from their set list–to no avail.

One of his new songs from Ride Out shows some activism on behalf of the aging rocker. It’s about climate change.

“It’s all about my kids,” Bob Seger said. “I’m not going to be around that much longer but we’ve all got to worry about our kids and their future.”

While that song may be all about his kids, Bob Seger’s concert tour and new album are all about his fans. Will you be among those who pick up Ride Out and/or buy tickets for his 25-city tour?

    Newport Festival Record Attendance

Since it’s conception 54 years ago the Newport Folk festival has boasted some very impressive musicians, such as Johnny Cash, Bob Seger and Bob Dylan. Over the years it has been home to rock, jazz, blues and many other genres. Newport’s Festival may not be the biggest music festival in the country, but it is one of the most memorable.

“Every concert has its own mystique, but Newport is somehow really special,” said John McCauley, a Rhode Island native playing Newport this year. McCauley, who also plays in the band Deer Tick, first came to the festival as a child. “It’s a really carefully selected lineup each year, and it just seems to get bigger and bigger.”

This year’s line up included nearly 50 bands that were set to perform. They included Beck, The Lumineers, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, New Orleans musician, Trombone Shorty, New Orleans Avenue, Colin Meloy of the Decemberist, The Mountain Goats and many others.

Even though the rain kept coming, so did the fans. Fan’s huddled under umbrellas to experience the “magic” that happens at Newport. “We’re definitely still having fun. Everyone was out dancing in the rain,” said Ally Miller of Middletown, Connecticut.

The historic attendance for the three day festival was over 10,000 each day and is expected to grow year after year. The ticket’s for the first two days of the event were sold out over five months ago. Many fans purchase their tickets even before the line-up is announced.

  • Coma Request: Bob Seger Concert Wish Granted

A Michigan woman who was in a coma for over five years has had her waking request granted: she has gone to a Bob Seger concert.

According to a report from CBS news station WNEM, a woman named Evie Branon, who fell into a coma following a stroke, recently awoke and issued an odd request. After the 79-year-old turned the page on the coma chapter of her life, she woke one morning and issued a request: “I want to go to a Bob Seger concert.” The staff at the nursing home where she was staying took the request to heart, and arranged for Branon to take a limousine to Thursday’s Bob Seger concert in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Branon told WNEM that she has seen Bob Seger in concert before, but that she was hoping the rock star will grant another of her requests on this occasion.

“I’m learning how to stand up so I can hug him, and I wanna hug him and give him a great big smooch,” said Branon

Bob Seger Robbed At Daughter’s House Party

Besides being the only man not currently working on HGTV who would make my mom leave my dad, Bob Seger is apparently a pretty cool guy. His personal collection of awesome stuff includes a 1978 autographed Les Paul guitar and some signed Shaq shoes, which are not items everyone can boast about.

Regretfully, that fact didn’t go unnoticed when Seger’s teenage daughter had some friends over for a party recently. 20-year old Andrew Thompson grabbed several items after the party was over and made off with them, only turning himself in when the police began questioning him. Although the guitar mysteriously turned up later outside the home, Thompson claims he didn’t steal it, but admits to taking the other items.

According to Seger, Thompson is a longtime friend of the family. Why he would suddenly decide to steal from the musician is currently being investigated; he was charged with larceny and faces up to four years in prison, although he is currently out on bond.
