  • Miranda Lambert: Tears During Oklahoma Benefit Performance

Last night, country music star Miranda Lambert took to the stage at the Healing in the Heartland benefit concert, televised live on network TV. The benefit for survivors of the recent deadly tornado in Moore, Oklahoma was organized in part by Lambert’s husband, country music star Blake Shelton, who also hosted the event.

Lambert was introduced by Shelton as “an amazing woman, a compassionate human being, a great talent – oh, and by the way, an amazing wife.” Lambert’s performance was specifically meant to raise awareness for the animals affected by the tornado. Images of pets and their owners appeared on the giant screen behind Lambert as she sang the song “The House That Built Me.”

Halfway through the song, emotion and tears overtook Lambert. She had to stop singing and pointed the microphone at the audience to take over for her. Though she recovered quickly and managed to finish the song, she was wiping tears from her eyes at the end of the performance:

  • Blake Shelton Rumors Denied on Twitter

This week, Life & Style Weekly published a cover story about rumors that Miranda Lambert had confronted the other woman that her husband, Blake Shelton, “got close” with. The rumors began to swirl through the celebrity press, and the country music stars soon found themselves at the center of a full-blown celebrity cheating scandal.

    Not that they care.

Lambert and Shelton, who have been married since 2011, took to Twitter to dispel the rumors of their rocky marriage. The two engaged in some playful banter over tweets, effectively dismissing the tabloid rumors:

Shelton has been topping country music charts since 2001, but is perhaps now best known as a “coach” on the NBC show The Voice. Shelton was awarded the Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year awards at the 2012 CMA awards, while Lambert took the award for Female Vocalist of the Year. The couple also won the 2012 CMA Song of the Year award for “Over You.”

CMA Awards 2012: Taylor Swift Gets Snubbed

The CMA Awards were full of tears and elation last night, with married couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert taking home several statues, including one for a song they co-wrote about Shelton’s brother, who died in a car accident when the singer was just a teenager. The couple took home the award for Song Of The Year for that one, and made CMA history, as well; while three other married couples have been nominated for the award, they were the first to actually win.

There was some controversy surrounding the show, as well; Toby Keith, who was nominated and won Music Video Of The Year for “Red Solo Cup”, refused to attend on the grounds that the Association has snubbed him for several years in a row and said he feels “abandoned”.

“Your industry can get behind you and crank you up and make you a household name, help you get there. Or you can be abandoned like I was,” Keith said. “I’m not going to leave it up to this industry that I’m in to give me any support.”

But one thing that has people talking today is the fact that Taylor Swift, who is usually an awards show darling, didn’t take home any statues last night.

Swift was nominated for two awards, however, and performed a new song for the occasion.

  • Eric Church Starts Feud With Country Stars, Apologizes

Country singer Eric Church is apparently not a fan of singing competitions.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Church asserted the opinion that the popular show “The Voice” is spawning a group of non-artists who think they can make it big overnight.

“It’s become ‘American Idol’ gone mad,” he said. “Honestly, if Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green f—ing turn around in a red chair, you get a deal? That’s crazy. I don’t know what would make an artist do that. You’re not an artist.”

Church managed to insult quite a few of his peers with that blanket statement, including former American Idol contestants who have gone on to make a big name for themselves in the country music world–Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, namely. Blake Shelton’s wife, Miranda Lambert, actually got her start on Nashville Star back in ’03 and invited Church to tour with her in 2010, so to say his comments ticked her off is putting it lightly. Once she got wind of the interview, Lambert took to Twitter to call Church out.

Thanks Eric Church for saying I’m not a real artist. Or @kelly_clarkson, @carrieunderwood & @KeithUrban. Your welcome for the tour in 2010.(image) 16 hours ago via Twitter for iPhone ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

But Church issued an apology yesterday via The Boot , saying he never intended to hurt anyone with his comments and was only speaking about his feelings towards people who think they can take shortcuts in the business.

“The comment I made to Rolling Stone was part of a larger commentary on these types of reality television shows and the perception they create, not the artists involved with the shows themselves,” Eric said. “The shows make it appear that artists can shortcut their way to success. There are a lot of artists due to their own perseverance that have gone on to be successful after appearing on these shows, but the real obstacles come after the cameras stop rolling. Every artist has to follow up television appearances with dedication towards their craft, but these shows tend to gloss over that part and make it seem like you can be ordained into stardom. I have a problem with those perceived shortcuts, not just in the music industry. Many people have come to think they can just wake up and have things handed to them. I have a lot of respect for what artists like Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, and my friend Miranda Lambert have gone on to accomplish. This piece was never intended to tear down any individual, and I apologize to anybody I offended in trying to shed light on this issue. I am grateful for all of the artists and fans that have supported me along my journey and certainly did not mean for my comments to undermine their talent and achievements.”

No word yet on how Lambert feels about the apology.
