Mark Zuckerberg Scolds Facebook Staff For Defacing ‘Black Lives Matter’ Slogans

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had a few sharp words for some of his employees after discovering that they have been crossing out “Black Lives Matter” on the doodle boards of the Menlo Park headquarters and replacing them with “All Lives Matter.”

Tech blog Gizmodo was able to acquire an internal memo penned by Zuckerberg and posted on a company-wide announcement page. In the memo, the 31-year-old mogul admonished staff members for defacing the slogans and described the acts as “malicious” and unacceptable. He also reminded them that he had already given prior warning during a Q&A session held the previous week.

Facebook is known to encourage its more than 12,000 employees to write freely and express themselves on the huge chalkboards, dry-erase boards, and walls found around the main office, emulating the virtual “wall” that the social media giant has made so popular.

However, Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of respecting each other’s views and opinions.

“We’ve never had rules around what people can write on our walls,” stated Zuckerberg in the post. “We expect everybody to treat each other with respect.”

“I was already very disappointed by this disrespectful behavior before, but after my communication I now consider this malicious as well,” he added.

Mark Zuckerberg may seem adamant in fostering an atmosphere of diversity and equality within his company, but statistics show that only about 2% of Facebook’s workforce consists of African Americans. Other well-known companies in Silicon Valley are not that different, and the progress in hiring more non-white employees has been quite slow.

“Black Lives Matter” actually started out as a hashtag on Facebook in 2013 following the acquittal of George Zimmerman, a white/hispanic man who gunned down an unarmed black teen named Trayvon Martin.

Facebook is currently investigating the defacement incident and is also scheduled to hold a 30-minute town hall on March 4th. Mark Zuckerberg invited his employees to attend the meeting, which aims to educate and enlighten them regarding the Black Lives Matter movement.

  • Jessica Williams Responds To Critics Of Beyonce’s Political Half-Time Performance

Jessica Williams, who was on The Daily Show Monday to talk about Beyonce‘s infamous Super Bowl half-time performance, slammed critics who were offended by Beyonce’s political stance.

During her segment on the show Jessica Williams poked fun at critics, especially Fox News personalities like Rudy Giuliani and Stuart Varney who wondered if race has to be brought in to every single facet of American life.

Jessica Williams said, “Race was brought in because Beyonce was brought in. And brace yourself, because you might want to sit down for this, but Beyonce is black.”

She explained, “As a black person, you walk around everyday constantly reminded that you are black. We’re more likely to get paid less, we’re more likely to get sent to prison…”

However, critics of Beyonce and likely many viewers wondered why their couldn’t just be good, “wholesome” entertainment when the game was targeted at Middle America, instead of a blatant stand for the Black Panthers and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Jessica Williams said, “What are they, so delicate and unaware, and maybe so white, that Beyonce is too much for them?”

Jessica Williams was quick to point out that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin made a political statement with his yellow arm band.

Chris Martin’s arm band was in honor of a child who died from a rare cancer and to raise awareness of childhood cancer. Not really a political statement excluding all races but one. But, whatever.

Do you agree with Jessica Williams’ statements?

  • MarShawn McCarrel: ‘Black Lives Matter’ Activist Dies, Shoots Himself At Ohio Statehouse

A Black Lives Matter activist has reportedly committed suicide in front of the Ohio Statehouse. The man was identified as MarShawn McCarrel, 23 years old.

According to reports, McCarrel, who hailed from the Columbus suburb of Franklin Township, shot himself outside the Statehouse on Monday evening.

Lt. Craig Cvetan of the State Highway Patrol says McCarrel died at the scene. Authorities said it is still unclear why the 23-year-old activist would kill himself.

“We don’t have any evidence to know the reason why he did it,” said Cvetan. Local police said nobody saw the shooting, but McCarrel was seen on Statehouse grounds just before the gunfire. Cvetan also said that the man was probably alone at the time of his death.

McCarrel’s last Facebook post was made the day before he killed himself. “My demons won today. I’m sorry,” the post read.

Just hours before his death, McCarrel tweeted: “Let the record show that I pissed on the state house before i left.”

MarShawn McCarrel was an active member of Black Lives Matter movement. He got involved with the activist group in 2014 when he helped organize protests in Ohio after a police shot and killed an unarmed black Missouri teenager Michael Brown.

He is also the founding member of Pursuing our Dreams, which started Feed the Street, a charity project that aims to help and feed the homeless in Ohio. McCarrel’s experience with homelessness prompted him to create the organization. “We don’t believe in heroes. We believe in neighbors,” Mccarrel previously said in an interview with Columbus Underground.

The young activist received Radio One’s Hometown Champions Award for his social works. Last Friday, McCarrel attended the NAACP’s Image Awards, according to the Pursuing our Dreams Facebook page.

  • Bristol Palin Misses the Mark When Blasting President Obama Over Ahmed Mohamed Invite

Bristol Palin clearly missed the mark when she spouted off last week at President Obama over the invitation he extended to Ahmed Mohamed to the White House.

Fourteen-year-old Ahmed Mohamed, a 9th-grader at MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas, was arrested on Monday after showing a homemade clock he constructed to a teacher. He says he was asked whether he had “tried to make a bomb.” Later in the week, President Obama tweeted to Ahmed and invited him to the White House.

Bristol Palin argued on her blog, saying President Obama should stay out of the situation with Ahmed Mohamed.

“This encourages more racial strife that is already going on with the ‘Black Lives Matter’ crowd and encourages victimhood,” she wrote. The police, she acknowledged, “clearly” made a mistake by taking Ahmed to juvenile detention.

“But why put more people against [the police]?” Bristol Palin asked. “Why egg it on? Childish games like this from our president have divided our country… even more today than when he was elected.”

    What?

It’s abundantly clear that the president isn’t “egging on” anti-police sentiment. He’s instead addressing a very real problem head on by tying to attack harmful stereotypes.

President Obama’s invitation is a positive thing, likely aimed at combatting the mindset that assumes all Muslims are terrorists and that all black people are troublemakers.

Bristol Palin seems to have a problem with this 14-year-old Muslim boy.

And isn’t that part of the divisiveness in our country?

  • Bill O’Reilly Interviews Donald Trump, Asks If Black Lives Matter

Bill O’Reilly and Donald Trump had a face off on the relevant social issues of today during Trumps interview on The O’Reilly Factor.

O’Reilly started the interview with the topic of Syrian refugees, in which he asked Trump if he would allow refugees into the country.

Trump replied, “I hate the concept of it, but on a humanitarian basis of what’s happening, you have to.”

Next topic O’Reilly brought was Kim Davis, a clerk who was released from jail after refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

“It was too bad that she had to be put in jail and I’m a very, very strong believer in Christianity and religion,” Trump said, “but I will say that this was not the right job for her.”

They moved on to O’Reilly’s new favorite topic, the Black Lives Matter movement, which O’Reilly declared to be a hateful group in past airings of The O’Reilly Factor.

The Black Lives Matter movement is being accused now of being racist and promotes execution or hurting police officers. But the movement defended their cause which is to draw attention to police misconduct and the lack of police accountability, particularly as it disproportionately affects African Americans.

Regarding that, Trump told O’Reilly that Black Lives Matter movement are looking for trouble and it’s a disgrace that they are getting away with it.

He told O’Reilly that the theme of America should be “all lives matter” and “that includes black and that includes white and it includes everybody else.”

If all lives matter to Trump, O’Reilly questioned Trump’s support of abortion and his stand on Planned Parenthood.

“I’m not supporting Planned Parenthood,” Trump said. “I don’t know where you got this information, I never said that.”

Trump also added, “You read a wrong report, Bill. You have bad researchers, what can I tell you,” he continued. “A lot of people say it’s an abortion clinic. I’m opposed to that.”

  • Google Announces Report Editor For AdWords

Google announced on Wednesday that it will roll out Report Editor in AdWords over the next few months. This is a new tool that lets advertisers build custom tables and charts that can be segmented, sorted, and filtered as they like.

There are drag and drop actions that let you sort, filter, and “pivot” data to help you focus on the right information. You can also visualize data in pie, bar, or line charts, and apply segmentations to analyze data with “finer granularity,” as Google puts it.

“Getting started with the Report Editor is easy,” says Jon Diorio, Group Product Manager for Google AdWords. “For example, to examine performance across devices, simply drag and drop the metrics and dimensions you like into your table or chart. You can look at metrics like impressions, clicks, and conversions, and then add dimensions like device, campaign, or ad group to segment your data further.”

“Visualizing data in a chart can make your data more actionable,” Diorio adds. “Charts can quickly unveil performance trends that may be missed when looking at numbers alone. Now, you can instantly create a line, pie, or bar chart to surface your key insights. Want to try a different visualization? It just takes a click to instantly switch between different charts and tables. Just like tables, you can save and share your charts with others or set them to run regularly.”

As mentioned, this is all rolling out over the coming months, so you’re probably not going to get access to it right away. Google says you’ll know you can use it when you see the new Reports tab in your account.
