Want Your Brand to Look More Sophisticated? Think Black!

Most people never think twice about the colors that their favorite brands use. However, businesses spend a lot of time and money deciding on which hue is best for their products. This is because colors affect people’s feelings on a subconscious level. They are also associated with certain cultural or social messages.

Colors come with so many meanings. Blue has a calming influence on people. It also gives off the impression of trustworthiness and dependability. In contrast, red is associated with passion and danger. It can also give off a refined and powerful vibe, which is why red wines are considered richer than whites.

As a small business owner, never underestimate the impact color has on your brand. Corporations with large marketing departments, understand this all too well. For instance, most skin care companies use white in their product packaging as it symbolizes purity and cleanliness. Banks tend to use the color blue to give off an image of dependability. But what if you want to give your product a luxurious feel and classy image?

    Why Black is Considered Luxurious

No other color has such a polarizing effect as black. Some western countries associate it with death and mourning. The media has also used it to portray villainy and evilness. However, the past few decades have seen the color become the epitome of luxury and class.

Despite the negative connotations, black is also associated with power, authority, class, and sophistication. Consider how high-end events are often black tie affairs, with women wearing the requisite little black dress. The color is very formal and serious and can evoke feelings of strength and intelligence.

Interestingly, black also has a slimming effect, which is why the color is used to make a product (or a person) smaller than it really is.

    Look Who’s Using Black

Numerous companies have taken advantage of the way black evokes power and sophistication. For instance, makeup brands have used the color to provide their products with a sleek and classy look. Notice how even simple makeup brushes look more expensive with the color.

Ralph Lauren has even named one of their men’s scents after the color and used it as the background of their ads. Their predominantly dark ads for Polo Black target men who consider themselves to be strong and mysterious but with a depth of personality.

Brands that cater to men and luxury items have found great success in using this particular color. Rolls Royce cars are typically black, with a sleek and shiny outline. The same goes for Don Q. The rum brand uses black with splashes of gold.

There’s no denying that black is a powerful color. However, it can also be overwhelming. Use black in your packaging, your ads, and website to give off the image of luxury. But try to pair it with colors like red or gold for a striking contrast. You’ll find that your customers will be more than willing to pay extra for something that looks expensive and luxurious even if the quality is average.

  • Family Feud Zombie: Contestant Calls Zombies Black [Video]

Well, things got a little interesting to say the least on a recent episode of Family Feud. The show had a question where contestants were asked about what they knew about zombies, and one contestant immediately gave a very odd answer when saying “black.”

It is hard to know where this contestant could possibly be getting her information from, or what could provoke her to say such a thing. What made the situation even worse of course, is that the host of Family Feud during the whole thing was Steve Harvey.

As we all know, Steve Harvey is black, which made the situation incredibly awkward and it makes audiences and internet users wonder, what made her say it? Was it sparked from racism?

Harvey came on to the scene as a comedian, and certainly knew how to play off the incident, but what if it had been someone else? He has been the host of the show since 2010.

Family Feud has gained in popularity, and has become a well-known game show, as it pits contestants up against one another and they try to name the most popular responses to a survey question. The show has had some hilariously awkward moments throughout its history, but this one has to be ranked toward the top.

It is also ironic since it seems that there are almost never black people in zombie movies. The situation certainly makes for a jaw-dropping moment on television, and Harvey’s reaction is simply priceless, making the segment of the show even better.

After she says “black,” Steve Harvey even looks up the board as she jokes about whether it will be there and says to her “Shut up, woman.” The next contestant then gives the obvious answer of “They walk slow.”

  • Nicole Scherzinger Brings Life To Party

Nicole Scherzinger Brings Life To Party

Everybody’s talking about and ogling Nicole Scherzinger ever since she stepped out in a body-hugging, skin-exposing black suit for a wild night out.

The former Pussycat Doll and X Factor judge effortlessly grabbed the attention of all onlookers with her killer cat suit, which featured an elaborate and blinging brocade-like front and back. The main parts of the shining silver fabric of the suit were held together by a revealing net-like construction that ran along Scherzinger’s body.

No peek-a-boo teases here! Nicole went full on with her outfit as well as her partying.

Nicole wore the painted-on, eye-catching suit for the Sushi Samba’s birthday bash, which took place on Tuesday in London. The London party was the restaurant’s first celebration, and with much thanks to Nicole Scherzinger, the party was a big hit.

The Mirror has it that Scherzinger was the life of the party. Apparently her skin-tight suit didn’t prevent Nicole from getting down on the dance floor with many of the party attendees and having a blast. The mirror also reports that Scherzinger enjoyed many shots and continued to jam in her sexy, pointed black heels. Well, in one of the photos we can see that she at least took one break from the heels and removed them. That’s ok. We can live with that.

It is also being said that Nicole was doing a whole lot of flirting at the party which might make some people very sad that they were not cool enough to be invited. Back in August people were first gossiping about whether Nicole Scherzinger and her former boyfriend Lewis Hamilton were getting back together. To the delight of those who would be jealous of Hamilton, Scherzinger announced that they were just friends. At the Sushi Samba party, Scherzinger apparently made that very clear. She is a free woman.

Usually there are complaints about a suit so sexy, but nobody’s complaining yet. So far people are enjoying the eye candy.

  • George Zimmerman To Be Charged In Trayvon Martin Shooting

According to the Washington Post, Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey plans to announce as early as Wednesday afternoon that she is charging neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the shooting of Trayvon Martin.

The announcement will be made at 7:30pm EST at either Jacksonville or Sanford.

If he is in fact charged with anything of substance it will put to an end a contrived national drama brought about by the main stream media. We learned earlier in the week that the case would not be heard in front of a grand jury which had experts saying that this was ok because it meant that Corey had enough to put a case together against Zimmerman that would stick.

Be reminded that this is the state that let Casey Anthony off, so even if charges are filed, there is no guarantee that Zimmerman will be convicted. If he is not convicted, look for riots to happen once again (see:OJ).

  • Trayvon Martin Case Won’t Be Heard By Grand Jury

Florida state appointed special prosecutor Angela Corey said Monday she will not take the Trayvon Martin shooting death before a grand jury. Under Florida law, only first-degree murder cases require the use of grand juries.

Corey said her decision to skip the grand jury shouldn’t be considered a factor in determining whether charges will be filed against George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who has admitted to fatally shooting the unarmed Martin. The circumstances are whats in question here.

“From the moment she was assigned, Ms. Corey noted she may not need a grand jury,” said a statement from Corey’s office.

Zimmerman has claimed self-defense, and Florida’s self-defense law gives wide leeway to use deadly force and eliminates a person’s duty to retreat in the face of danger.

“Corey’s decision means she doesn’t have to rely on potentially unpredictable jurors,” said David Hill, an Orlando criminal defense attorney. “Let’s give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she knows there isn’t enough for first-degree murder but she wants to maintain control and charge him with something else,” Hill said. “What does she need a grand jury for? She cuts out the unpredictability of the grand jury. She goes where she feels she has more evidence.”

This is of course all speculation from Corey. In reality there is a very good chance that no charges will surface from this investigation, no matter how much Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton try to inflame the situation with racial hate.

  • NBC News Fires Producer Over Edited 911 Trayvon Martin Call

It was announced today that NBC news has fired the producer responsible for editing the 911 call that George Zimmerman made the night that Treyvon Martin died. The 911 call that was played on air on “Today” made it seem as though Zimmerman acted out of racial prejudice. The recording had him saying: ‘This guy looks like he’s up to no good … he looks black.”

In reality this is what took place: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about,” Zimmerman said. The officer speaking to Zimmerman then asked, “OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?” To which Zimmerman responded, “He looks black.”

“During our investigation it became evident that there was an error made in the production process that we deeply regret,” the network said in a statement provided to TheWrap at the time. “We will be taking the necessary steps to prevent this from happening in the future and apologize to our viewers.”

NBC news will not release the name of the producer, which has people speculating that he is black. This is smart on NBS’s part because the last thing this country needs is more racial problems.

Here is the full tape of the 911 call that Zimmerman made:

  • Trayvon Martin Case Sparks Racial Debate

With new details of the Trayvon Martin case emerging every day, speculation as to whether or not the shooting was racially motivated is growing within the African American community.

The incident, which involved self-appointed neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman following 17-year old Trayvon Martin–who was unarmed and walking home from the store–before confronting him for looking suspicious, led to Zimmerman fatally shooting the boy after a scuffle broke out between the two. Zimmerman claims he acted in self defense, but a lot of people are wondering if the fact that Martin was African American played a part in it.

Adding fuel to this fiery topic is the fact that Martin’s father, Robert, released a statement last week to the Orlando Sentinel which claimed that Zimmerman is of Hispanic descent and grew up in a multi-racial family.

“He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever …,” the statement reads. “The media portrayal of George as a racist could not be further from the truth.”

The statement has raised many questions regarding racism and whether it’s strictly an issue for the white community, as reported on Fox News Latino. Writer Chantilly Pantino expresses concern that certain comments in a recent Breitburt.com article imply just that.

The first paragraph of the article reads:

“The media immediately portrayed the death as a case of white on black racism. CBS News, on its Crimesider website, immediately called Zimmerman a “white neighborhood watch volunteer.” Martin’s parents accused the police of racism for not arresting Zimmerman. There’s only one problem: Zimmerman is Hispanic.”

Pantino explores the assertion that Zimmerman cannot be racist because he is Hispanic:

“…Are we to believe then, that he can’t be racist because he’s not white? Is prejudice and discrimination restricted only to those who are direct European descendants?”

There have been many reports over the years of suspected Hispanic/African American hate crimes, including one involving the 2006 death of a 14-year old girl in Los Angeles, which adds more weight to the argument that perhaps the fact that Zimmerman is Hispanic doesn’t excuse him from possibly being racist.

And there are other avenues of thought to consider, such as why Zimmerman continued his pursuit of Martin despite a warning from police to leave him alone.

This is certainly not an issue that will go away anytime soon, and the debate that has been raised will more than likely draw out for many years with no easy answer. The general public has flooded social media sites with their opinions and will continue to do so as the investigation into the shooting goes on.
