  • Christie Brinkley Proud as Son and Daughter Follow Her Famous Footsteps into Modeling World

    Christie Brinkley is no doubt very proud, as her two younger children, Jack and Sailor Brinkley-Cook, are featured in the November issue of Town & Country magazine. The gorgeous duo–Sailor is 17, Jack is 20–have big shoes to fill. After all, Christie Brinkley is still a star at 61–and she’s dating a rock star, too. Brinkley and rocker John Mellencamp have been dating for a couple of months now, and are frequently spotting out on the town in New York City.

    Within the pages of this most recent issue of Town & Country, Brinkley’s kids also dish on being brought up by one of the most famous super models ever.

    “The best part of my childhood was how normal it was,” Sailor Brinkley-Cook says, “given my circumstances.”

    Though watching her parents’ bitter divorce play out on the pages of the New York Post isn’t necessarily conducive to a happy childhood experience, Brinkley-Cook says life with her mother Christie Brinkley, on a 20-acre estate in Bridgehampton, as “balanced.”

    “My dad [architect Peter Cook] understands reality, and my mom, fantasy,” she says.

    Jack Brinkley-Cook has set his sights on acting, but models in the meantime. He performed in plays while at the Ross School in East Hampton, then graduated from a conservatory program at New York City’s Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. He even recently did a short film. For now, however, he auditions and waits.

    “The most terrifying thing is the desire to establish a career as an actor,” he says, dropping the name of fellow Strasberg alum Miles Teller (Divergent, Whiplash) as an inspiration. “It’s an extremely competitive and challenging industry to conquer.”

    Since Sailor wants to model, she has the best resource available–right in her own home.

    “It can be hard to be up-and-coming and constantly compared to an icon,” she says, insisting she doesn’t plan to inherit her success, but to work for it instead. “Right now I’m focusing on working hard in school and getting into college.”

    Sailor and Jack often do photo shoots together, posting the shots on Instagram.

    Christie Brinkley’s older daughter from her marriage to Billy Joel–Alexa Ray Joel–is a great support to both her siblings, but most especially to Jack.

    “If I ever have anything I need to talk about or get over, Alexa is my go-to,” he says.

    Jack frequently attends Alexa’s Café Caryle performances, cheering her on from the audience.

    John Mellecamp and Christie Brinkley’s relationship seems to be going full steam ahead, as the couple was spotted checking out of New York CIty’s Tribeca Hotel this weekend. The two also enjoyed dinner at the Upper East Side eatery Scalinatella on Saturday night.

    It was just over a month ago that fans began seeing John Mellencamp and Christie Brinkley out and about together. The rocker was last linked to actress Meg Ryan. Christie Brinkley hasn’t had a steady man in her life since divorcing Peter Cook.

    Christie Brinkley’s first ex-husband, Billy Joel, even joked about her and John Mellencamp during a recent concert. He had just finished singing his song, “The Longest Time,” which he wrote about Brinkley.

    “And now she’s dating John Mellencamp!” he told the concert audience.

    The two enjoyed a considerable amount of PDA during their recent New York City adventure.

    “They look like they have really fallen for each other,” a source tells Entertainment Tonight. “Christie looked really happy and was seen giggling at John.”

    Prior to dinner, Christie Brinkley and John Mellencamp were spotted holding hands.

    Christie Brinkley and John Mellencamp are officially dating. The two have been spotted in various locations in New York City, dining and meeting with friends.

    Following his appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert earlier this week, Christie Brinkley joined John Mellencamp in the same car and headed out for some fun on the town.

    John Mellencamp was most recently linked to actress Meg Ryan. In fact the two dated for about three years before calling it quits just over a year ago. They parted as very good friends.

    Christie Brinkley hasn’t dated since her divorce from Peter Cook back in 2008. She was previously married to Billy Joel. In January, Brinkley dished to ET’s Nancy O’Dell about why she wasn’t dating.

    “It seems like during this period that most of the guys [I’m dating] are like 38, 39, 42, like that sort of age group,” she said. “It’s funny because I think that at that age they have nothing to prove. They’re very confident and do just what they want to do. [With] men my age, I feel quite invisible to them.”

    Christie Brinkley is definitely not invisible. In fact, she’s one of the most naturally beautiful women in her age group. Brinkley has aged gracefully, and is still drop dead gorgeous at 61.

  • Meg Ryan Seems to Be a Thing of the Past As John Mellencamp Steps Out With Christie Brinkley

    Meg Ryan’s ex, John Mellencamp, and supermodel Christie Brinkley have been spotted out and about lately, which seems to indicate that the rocker has moved on from his ex.

    On Wednesday, Mellencamp and Brinkley were spotted out on their second date this week.

    The rumored couple were all smiles as they left the Ed Sullivan Theater in the same car, following Mellencamp’s performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with Willie Nelson.

    Brinkley and her new beau stopped by Chalk Point Kitchen for some late-night eats after the appearance. A source told Entertainment Tonight “the mood was great and happy,” while a different insider confirmed the pair are “spending time together” to E! News.

    As previously reported by WebProNews, Brinkley and Mellencamp were also spotted out on a dinner date earlier this week in New York, kicking up the rumor mill that the two have become an item.

    On Monday, Meg Ryan’s ex were seen leaving New York’s Bowery Hotel after an hour-long dinner inside the chic eatery.

    Ryan, 53, and the 63-year-old musician spent more than three years together and broke up just over a year ago. Despite the breakup, the two are reportedly still good friends.

    As for Brinkley and if rumors are true, this will mark the model’s first foray into the dating scene since she divorced husband number two, Peter Cook. She was previously married to Billy Joel.

    Christie Brinkley reportedly seemed happy as she stepped out with Mellencamp, sporting casual jeans and sneakers, along with a bright blue scarf. Mellencamp followed her out of the restaurant and onto the sidewalk just behind her before the two departed in his chauffeur-driven car.

    In other Meg Ryan news, the actress is sadly making headlines for some recent cosmetic surgery she reportedly underwent, which drastically altered her appearance.

  • Billy Joel Joined On Stage by Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Schumer During Chicago Concert

    Billy Joel had a couple of very popular–and very sexy–ladies join him on stage during his concert in Chicago on Thursday night. The ladies were none other than new BFFs Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer.

    The pair danced barefoot atop a piano while Billy Joel sang his long-popular “Uptown Girl.” The song was featured in Amy Schumer’s film Trainwreck.

    Many fans believed the two showing up on stage was a complete surprise to Billy Joel, but in truth they’d rehearsed all day alongside the Piano Man at Wrigley Field.

    “Billy came out for his encore and started singing “Uptown Girl,” ” an audience member told People magazine. “And then Amy and [Jennifer] came out with some others for the song! Eventually Amy and [Jennifer] were dancing on Billy’s piano. Absolutely loved it.”

    Amy Schumer shared a photo to her Instagram account of herself with Jennifer Lawrence, standing on Billy Joel’s piano.

    Sailor Brinkley Cook is a chip of the old block–that of mom Christie Brinkley. Following in her famous mom’s footsteps as a model, Sailor appears in the September issue of Seventeen magazine.

    Within the magazine’s pages, Sailor Brinkley Cook dishes about her mom, and how she has always wanted to be just like her.

    “My mom is a model, so it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I started when I was 14!” she explained.

    Sailor Brinkley, at 17, is talking college, too, and she already has a place and a major in mind.

    “Parsons! I want to study photography there,” she says.

    In a recent interview with E! News, Sailor Brinkley Cook shared some advice her mother gave her on working in the modeling industry.

    “Her main beauty secret is to smile a lot because she wants to exude positive energy and happiness in the modeling industry,” she said. “She always has [smiled] throughout her whole career—which has been a large one—so I sort of aspire to be that type of person too.”

    Having learned from the best, Sailor Brinkley Cook will no doubt make it big in the modeling industry. In addition to all the advice proffered by Christie Brinkley serving as a huge plus, she is also graced with her mom’s gorgeous blonde locks, huge smile, and svelte physique.

    Christie Brinkley is also mom to son Jack Brinkley Cook, who is 20, and Alexa Ray Joel–her daughter with singer Billy Joel.

    Christie Brinkley isn’t just drop-dead gorgeous herself–she has gorgeous kids, too. She shared some photos of herself with her fine looking offspring in recent days, as they all enjoyed an Italian vacation together.

    Daughter Alexa Ray Joel has certainly grown into a beauty, and is the only dark-haired of Christie Brinkley’s three children. Both Jack Brinkley-Cook, who is 20, and younger sister Sailor Brinkley-Cook, who is 17, are blonde just like their famous mom.

    As the family floated around on a yacht near some islands off the coast of Italy, Christie Brinkley captured the vacation on her Instagram account.

  • Christie Brinkley Fights Her Brother As Alexa Attends Billy Joel Wedding

    Alexa Joel’s life is a picture of light and dark the past few days. On the one hand, her father, singer Billy Joel, got married in a surprise ceremony to his girlfriend Alexis Roderick. The wedding took place at the couple’s annual Fourth of July celebration. Alexa was there to see her father married to his fourth wife, with whom he is expecting a child.

    But then there is Alexa’s mother, Christie Brinkley. The former supermodel and second wife of Billy Joel is locked in a very public feud with her own brother over a memorial to their late parents, Alexa’s grandparents. The feud is playing out on Facebook for all to see.

    Gregory Donald Brinkley has accused his popular sister of using the occasion of their parents’ deaths to clamor for media attention and cause trouble for him and his wife. The siblings hosted separate memorial services for their parents, each accusing the other of alienating behavior.

    Christie Brinkley posted to Facebook that she would not attend the memorial her brother planned because it landed on her daughter Sailor’s birthday. Some said this was a deliberate move by Gregory to keep Christie away.

    “My brother Greg and I have been estranged for years and it is a private matter,” Christie Brinkley wrote in a post. “I have honored my beloved parents’ memory consistent with their wishes and Greg is honoring our parents in his own way. Today is my daughter, Sailor’s Birthday and we will celebrate this day as my parents would have wanted.This will be my only response to published reports on this topic.”

    Some praised Christie Brinkley’s approach to the odd scandal, but Greg begged to differ. He posted:

    “Dad was way to intelligent to allow the kind of misappropriation of power to Christie for the lies she is telling herself, her children and the public about me and my pure as the fallen snow wife!”

    Other friends of the family have jumped to taking sides, adding their own narrative to the fracas.

  • Alexis Roderick And Billy Joel Are Having A Baby Girl?

    Mazel Tov! Piano Man Billy Joel and his longtime girlfriend Alexis Roderick are expecting their first child together.

    The happy news was shared by a rep for the Grammy Award-winning rocker. The rep also added that Billy and Alexis want “to keep any further details of her pregnancy under wraps until their new addition makes an official debut.”

    While their decision to keep mum about the baby is admirable, it doesn’t mean the people around them are keeping quiet. Sources close to the couple have said the new baby is a girl and that they plan on calling her Madison.

    The couple has been dating since 2009 and according to Alexis, they met at a restaurant in Long Island.  They didn’t start any fires that night, but the two became friends before they hooked up.

    This is Alexis’ first child and Billy’s second one. The 65-year-old Piano Man is also proud dad to singer-songwriter Alexa Ray, his daughter from his previous marriage to model Christie Brinkley.

    The job of rocking the new baby to sleep will probably fall to Billy, but it won’t be to any new songs of his. The “Uptown Girl” singer has no plans to record a new album, despite prodding by friends like Elton John.

    And according to Billy, his usual response to Elton whenever the conversation steers to that topic is a cheeky “Why don’t you make less albums?”

    In the meantime, the couple intends to take things slow and easy.

    The 33-year-old Alexis has been keeping a low profile and hasn’t been going out as much as she used to do to avoid attracting attention. The former financial advisor has also taken to wearing loose and airy dresses to minimize the scrutiny to her belly.

    There’s also no indication that the two will be tying the knot anytime soon. Although, there have been reports that Billy has given Alexis an engagement ring.

  • Billy Joel Part Of Epic Paul McCartney Tribute Album

    Here’s an entire album that just might be a must-buy for music lovers of all ages. Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, The Who, The Cure, Brian Wilson, Alice Cooper, and Willie Nelson are just a few of the music legends performing Paul McCartney songs for a tribute album in honor of the former Beatle. The CD drops on Tuesday, November 18.

    The album, called The Art of McCartney, will feature 42 cover songs and be available in different formats which include a double-CD and box set. Fans can expect quite an eclectic array of songs from the ever-popular Yesterday to the more obscure Junior’s Farm. Additionally, musicians from all genres perform on the album from the smooth stylings of Smokey Robinson to the hard rock of Kiss.

    Los Angeles producer Ralph Sall has been working on the tribute album for over ten years. Every track is backed by McCartney’s current band.

  • Tom Hanks, Sting and Lily Tomlin to Receive Kennedy Center Honors

    Actor-director Tom Hanks, British singer Sting, comedian Lily Tomlin, R&B singer Al Green and ballerina Patricia McBride are the five recipients of this year’s Kennedy Center Honors, the center announced Thursday.

    “The Kennedy Center celebrates five extraordinary individuals who have spent their lives elevating the cultural vibrancy of our nation and the world,” said Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein.

    “Al Green’s iconic voice stirs our souls in a style that is all his own; Tom Hanks has a versatility that ranks him among the greatest actors of any generation; one of the world’s greatest ballerinas, Patricia McBride continues to carry forward her legacy for future generations; Sting’s unique voice and memorable songwriting have entertained audiences for decades; and from the days of her early television and theatrical appearances, Lily Tomlin has made us laugh and continues to amaze us with her acting talent and quick wit,” said Rubenstein.

    The honorees of this year’s gala will be seated with President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, and will “accept the thanks of their peers through performances and tributes.”

    The awards gala, the 37th annual national celebration of the arts, is scheduled to be held Dec. 7 and recorded for broadcast on CBS on Dec. 30.

    According to the Kennedy Center website, the five honorees will be received at the White House prior to the performance and will enjoy a supper dance in the Grand Foyer following the gala evening.

    Last year, the Kennedy Center honored Shirley MacLaine, Carlos Santana, Martina Arroyo, Herbie Hancock and Billy Joel.

  • Christie Brinkley: Decades Later, She’s Still Billy Joel’s ‘Uptown Girl’

    Christie Brinkley will always be Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl”. Joel sang the 1983 hit song during his Madison Square Garden concert last Thursday, where Brinkley was among the audience in the front row.

    Flashback circa 1980s: (people still wore baggy pants and teased their hair.) Joel was an accomplished musician dating supermodel Elle Macpherson who, according to some reports, was the sole inspiration for Uptown Girl. Other reports claim Uptown Girl was really inspired by several uptown girls: including Macpherson, fellow supermodel Brinkley and singer Whitney Houston.

    The Joel-Macpherson relationship was short lived and was over when the time came to shoot the music video.  Joel had then gotten chummy with Brinkley and opted to feature her in the vid. Brinkley is also an accomplished dancer and was said to have walked Joel through his choreography for the vid.

    Joel and Brinkley stayed together and got married in 1985, which further strengthened Brinkley’s Uptown Girl image. The couple later had a daughter, singer Alex Ray Joel, now 28 years old.

    The marriage, however, didn’t last and the two parted ways in 1994 in a divorce that affected Joel so much that he removed the song Uptown Girl from his setlist for a concert during that period.

    Fast forward to present day:
    Joel, now 65 and wiser, has apparently put the past behind him and seems to be on good terms with Brinkley. Brinkley was clearly having a good time at Joel’s concert, smiling and dancing along. Joel documented his ex-wife’s night at his concert by asking his camera crew to direct their cameras at her.  Brinkley later on responded with a compliment on Instagram with the post: “He’s still got it!”


    Vanity Fair writes: “. . . The song and its inevitable association with his marriage has, at times, been a sore subject for Joel. . . But he seemed to have put all that behind him…”

    This is a real step forward considering Joel was still notably sensitive about the subject last year when New York Times quoted him as saying that he enjoys teaching up and coming musicians as long as they “don’t ask me about what happened with Christie and Uptown Girl.”

  • Billy Joel: Piano Man’s Mother Dies at 92

    Billy Joel–often called the Piano Man–is mourning the passing of his mother, Rosalind Joel. She died on Sunday in Long Island. The namesake for his song ‘Rosalinda’s Eyes,’ Rosalind Joel was a single mother who divorced his father when the singer was eight years old. Rosalind worked from her Hicksville home as a clerk for various businesses throughout the years.

    In 1986 Billy Joel endowed and named a scholarship for his mother. The Rosalind Joel Scholarship is awarded each year to a student studying the performing arts at City College. Joel’s mother and father actually met back in 1942 at a City College musical production.

    Billy Joel’s ex-wife Christie Brinkley wrote a touching tribute to Rosalind Joel, and posted it on Instagram along with a decades-old photo of her former mother-in-law.

    “At sad times we look for ways to find the good to lift our spirits, So I have only to imagine what Rosalinda’s Eyes have seen to find cause to celebrate a life well lived ! Just in this year alone she saw her son , Billy Joel receive the Kennedy Center Honor , the highest cultural honor possible, from the President of the United States no less, and Rosalind greatly appreciated the Arts!) She also saw her son get a regular gig at Madison Square Garden ( where he already holds a record and where Roz is welcomed on a first name basis! And her eyes sparkled with pride and joy as the former Gilbert and Sullivan chorus girl, watched her granddaughter Alexa perform at the famed Cafe Carlyle surrounded by a large group of her friends enjoying themselves. I know as a mom myself that when you see your kids happy healthy and enjoying their passions you feel content and happy. Rosalinda’s Eyes will live on not only in the song inspired by her, but in Billy, and Alexa… and Nanny Roz herself would find that worth celebrating. @alexarayjoel #cherishedgrandmother #restinpeace,” she wrote.

He stopped his bike and came to her aid immediately.

    In addition to calling 911 for help, he gathered her packages from the road and stayed with her until EMTs arrived. He stayed while they administered help to be certain she was okay. It’s uncertain why the woman fell–whether she suffered from a medical condition or simply tripped as she crossed the road. However in photos provided by The TODAY Show she appeared to be sitting up and alert as she was being treated by the ambulance crew.

    Billy Joel isn’t the only celebrity recently to help out someone in need. In recent years Jennifer Garner brought gasoline to a stranded motorist, Patrick Dempsey freed a teenager who was trapped in a car following an accident, and Ryan Gosling prevented a tourist from being run over by a New York City taxi cab. It’s nice to know that all of these celebrities–including Billy Joel–have a human side in addition to their fame in the entertainment industry.

    Billy Joel definitely has what it takes to still live up to his ‘Piano Man’ persona, too, however. With more than 150 million records sold since 1972, the legendary singer was set to take the stage at Boston’s Fenway Park on Thursday evening in front of a huge crowd of fans.

    At least if anyone in the crowd at Fenway falls down and can’t get up, they’ll rest easy knowing that a good Samaritan as well as an amazing entertainer is in the venue.

    Kudos to Billy Joel for being helpful where some celebrities might have simply called 911 and left the scene for fear of causing a media frenzy.

  • Billy Joel Shares “Scandinavian Skies” Inspiration, Song Was Inspired By Heroin

    Billy Joel has accomplished a lot in his 50-year career.

    With an impressive 33 Top-40 hits, 23 Grammy nominations and an estimated 150 million records sold worldwide, there’s so much that can be discussed when it comes to the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.

    So, when he went to chat with Howard Stern on Sirius XM’s Town Hall series in New York City, they had no problem getting down to business.

    According to Hollywood Reporter, Joel and Stern gabbed about everything from the singer-songwriter’s laudable music career to the depths of his personal life. The personal aspect of the conversation led to one astonishing admission.

    The 64-year-old singer opened up about the unconventional source of inspiration behind his 1983 hit single “Scandinavian Skies”. He explained that his experience with heroin is what fueled the inspiration for the song.

    “It got me so high, I didn’t know how to deal with it,” Joel said about experimenting with the opioid analgesic drug. “It scared me.”

    In the early 2000s, the Nylon Curtain singer openly discussed his battle with alcoholism after being involved in a number of automobile accidents. He also admitted to suffering from depression and using alcohol as a form of medication.

    “I was kind of in a mental fog, and it had nothing to do with the booze,” the singer told the New York Times during an interview back in May of 2013. “My mind wasn’t right. I wasn’t focused. I went into a deep, deep depression after 9/11. 9/11  just knocked the wind out of me, and I don’t know even now if I’ve recovered  from it… I used booze as medication.”

    Luckily, the six-time Grammy winner has overcome his battle with substance abuse, because he still has work to do! Joel is currently holding a monthly residency at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, NY. He told Stern he has no plans of slowing down, just yet. As long as the fans are all in, so is he! “As long as there is ticket demand and I have the wherewithal to do it, we are  going to stay there.”

  • Christie Brinkley: Daughter Alexa Ray Joel Transformed?

    Christie Brinkley is gorgeous at age 60. Her daughter with Billy Joel–Alexa Ray Joel–never looked much like her supermodel mom. Throughout the past months, however, she seems to look even less like Alexa Ray Joel. Has she been completely transformed by cosmetic surgery? It seems lots of people believe she has.

    The 28-year-old singer’s rep claims that’s simply not the case, but rather the result of ‘maturity’ instead.

    “Alexa has never had any plastic surgery other than a rhinoplasty, which she has admitted to,” the rep said in an interview with Us Magazine. “She’s simply matured into a beautiful young woman.”

    Joel even commented on the rumors about her supposed extensive cosmetic procedures on her Facebook page.

    Christie Brinkley said back in January of this year that she has never had cosmetic surgery herself, but that she isn’t opposed to the idea.

    “I’d never say never [to plastic surgery],” Brinkley told PEOPLE magazine. “But there are so many other non-invasive choices that address sagging, wrinkling and discoloration.”

    It was rumored that Christie Brinkley had a face lift back in 2010–just a day before Alexa Ray Joel had her facelift–but she has remained coy about the rumor.

    Given Brinkley’s attitude about cosmetic surgery, it certainly wouldn’t be unheard of for Alexa Ray Joel to have undergone some additional procedures besides her rhinoplasty. When one grows up in a home where her mother is Christie Brinkley, it might be hard to live feeling you were anything less than physically beautiful.

  • Alexa Ray Joel Denies Plastic Surgery Rumors

    Singer Alexa Ray Joel, the 28-year-old daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, kicked off her Cafe Carlyle residency on Tuesday night with a new look that sparked a round of plastic surgery rumors.

    Observers claimed Joel looked “unrecognizable” with “what appears to be a brand-new face.”

    Joel took to Instagram to deny the rumors. She posted the following commentary on an photo of herself from Tuesday night:

    “On a personal (and slightly ridiculous note): I would just like to add that all of the continuously-circulating rumors that I have had extensive ‘face-work’ and undergone breast-augmentation surgery is simply and entirely 100% false.

    The only thing I have ever had done is my nose, which I have always been completely candid, honest, and open about- and I can swear on my Beloved Gypsy-Stella The Cat that this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God! (But hey, there could be worse rumors circulating, so, I’ll take it).

    Any visibly-positive alterations in terms of my public-image are an absolute and sole credit to my brilliant makeup-artist and stylist, @darlingcait … Who is a true beauty-wizard and visionary. (That, combined with the fact that I actually have a hearty dose of self-confidence now- which took me a little extra minute or so to find.) ; )

    But hey, wouldn’t it be nice if the press could just focus on my music and stage-presence? Because, honestly, I would rather be judged, critiqued, and picked apart for my actual work.

    “I was 13 years old in the pic posted as a ‘before’. In this latter pic, I am 28 years old [that’s the age I am now], I have lost weight simply from maturing, and I have fully contoured ‘stage makeup’ and hair done for my first debut-show at the Carlyle Hotel in NYC. Obviously, I’m going to look different. It’s called ‘growing up’!” Joel said of the before and after pictures that circulated following her Tuesday night performance.

    In April 2010 Joel admitted to having underwent rhinoplasty: “I was thinking about getting this for years,” Joel said at the time. “[My nose] always bothered me a little bit. I was self-conscious of pictures taken from the side. To some people that’s vain, but at the end of the day, we all want to feel pretty.”

    And it turns out that the press is talking about more than her physical appearance. Joel’s Cafe Carlyle debut received a mostly positive review in The New York Times.

    The reviewer said Joel portrayed herself “as someone who follows her heart wherever it directs her,” praising her sound as one that “though not beautiful, is many shaded and emotionally high pitched.”

    Jimmy Fallon is known for his musical brilliance; from his time on “Saturday Night Live” to his collaborations with The Roots on his talk shows, he knows how to make songs that go viral.

    The fun hasn’t stopped now that he’s hosting “The Tonight Show”, and his recent duet with Billy Joel may go down in history as Fallon’s favorite (and maybe yours). Fallon is an admitted fanboy of Joel’s and was visibly nervous as they talked, but once he brought out a “looper”–a device that allows one to make continuous, looping tracks of their own voice–the nerves took a backseat to the pure joy of performing with one of his idols.

  • Alexa Ray Joel Lands Gig at the Cafe Carlyle

    Five years after a panic attack, Alexa Ray Joel has bounced back and is ready to follow in her famous dad’s footsteps by landing a gig at the Cafe Carlyle in New York City.

    After a difficult end to a relationship, Billy Joel‘s daughter suffered a panic attack — an affliction that she often experienced when she was younger — that nearly cost her her life. On Dec. 5, 2009, Alexa took several homeopathic pills during a period 3 hours trying to calm herself down.

    It was a point in her life she deems her “rock bottom.”

    After intensive therapy, she turned to music to help her deal with her grief. That expression of her pain and grief led to healing and propelled her to follow in her famous dad’s footsteps.

    This week, Alexa will take the Upper Manhattan’s East Side stage April 1-12. It’s a much smaller venue than the stadiums where her 6-time, grammy-award-winning father has played, but it is still a great place to show off her talent. Many other big-name artists — like cabaret singer Bobby Short — have played there.

    This isn’t the first time Alexa has had a residency gig. In 2011, she played at the Oak Room in Manhattan’s Plaza Hotel.

    Alexa says she has relied on her dad and mom, Christie Brinkley, and gives them the credit for her comeback from the depths of despair.

    “Dad always builds me up; he helped me get perspective back,” Alexa said. “My mom and I have more heart-to-hearts now… I’m in a Zen good place.”

    Alexa Ray Joel, who writes her own songs and plays the piano, once told Chorus & Verse, “I definitely believe that music is something that is in my blood, something that I was born to do.”

  • Alexa Ray Joel Follows in Famous Dad’s Footsteps

    Alexa Ray Joel is definitely following in her famous dad’s musical footsteps. While Billy Joel plays Madison Square Garden, his daughter now has a residency on a smaller New York stage. Alexa Ray will be the headliner from April 1st through April 12th at the Cafe Carlyle, inside the famed Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

    It was just a few months ago that the younger Joel appeared on Katie Couric’s talk show–Katie–and both talked about and performed her father’s renown hit Just the Way You Are. There’s no doubt whatsoever that she is a chip of the old block–she has the voice and the passion that Billy Joel has long been known for.

    It was just a few weeks ago that Alexa Ray Joel hinted via Twitter about something big that was in the works, but she wasn’t yet at liberty to share all the exciting details.

    She also shared an Instagram of the doodle she drew while “readying” herself for the excitement, and included more information about what’s to come in a caption.

    “As I’ve been readying myself for [surprise!!] an upcoming local performance-showcase…. {which I unfortunately am not at liberty to reveal the details to just yet}…. I’ve been vacillating between preparing new original material and fresh reinterpretations of other’s songs, plus reviewing some of my earlier pieces for consideration. It’s been a rather nostalgic experience revisiting my playful doodles on the insert of ‘Sketches’, my old EP…. I remember drawing this whilst residing in Brooklyn when I was 19 years old. ~Oh, how the time passes ever so quickly by… Within a mere, overlooked blink of an eye!~”

    It was just a short time later when her Instagram account revealed the details fans were no doubt thrilled to hear all about. Mom Christie Brinkley and Dad Billy Joel had to be incredibly proud, too.

    Alexa Ray Joel is a talent to be reckoned with–and she’s not in any way a carbon copy of her famous dad.

    “It’s a bit more soulful, more blues than my dad’s,” she said of her 2006 EP. “He’s more pop rock. And his piano playing is better than mine, but that’s okay. I don’t want to be the Piano Girl.”

    She’s definitely well on her way to something big. Might she join Dad one of these days at Madison Square Garden?
