  • Rachel Frederickson Gains Weight Post-Controversy

It looks like everyone that was concerned about Rachel Frederickson’s startling weight loss can breathe a little easier.

The Biggest Loser contestant who dropped down to 105 lbs in order to claim the big prize has put on a little weight since the show ended.

When Frederickson strutted on stage for the Biggest Loser season finale, everyone present was stunned by her 155 lb weight loss. Coach Jillian Michaels was visibly concerned and later spoke up about her misgivings.

The change was so drastic that it left many at home wondering whether or not the weight loss methods Frederickson used were ethical.

Frederickson now weighs in at about 126 lbs.

The difference between Frederickson’s season finale frame and her current one makes it clear that expecting Biggest Loser maintaining such a staggering weight loss result was probably a big ask.

The difficulty in maintaining successful weight loss achieved on the show is an ongoing criticism of the Biggest Loser.

There are a few contestants who stick close to their season finale weight. Others gain weight, but find themselves fit and happy. Some don’t return to their starting weight, but it’s clear they weren’t able to maintain a healthy weight after the show. Finally, there are those unfortunate individuals who return to about the weight they were before they appeared on The Biggest Loser.

It looks like Frederickson is content to stay at a size that is healthier than both her pre-Biggest Loser weight and season finale weight.

After putting on the 20 lbs, Frederickson told Us that she strongly suspects that she’s now at her “perfect weight”; she’s neither too big nor too skinny.

“I work out an hour, six days a week. I love classes like SoulCycle,” said Frederickson.

As a former athlete, fitness isn’t a foreign concept to the 24-year-old. It’s likely that she just needed the show to return to a weight and mentality that was there all along.

As long as she avoids the extremes, Frederickson will continue to be a Biggest Loser success story.

  • Jillian Michaels: Winner Lost Too Much Weight

It was all over Jillian Michaels’s face during the stunning Biggest Loser finale, one that saw contestant Rachel Frederickson lose an incredible 155 lbs. Frederickson’s new 105 lb frame helped the 24-year-old walk away with the Biggest Loser‘s top prize. At the same time her stunning weight loss touched off a firestorm of controversy.

Now Michaels, 40, has commented on Frederickson’s much debated weight loss in a Skype chat with Huffpost Live. As you have probably guessed she did not approve.

Said Michaels, “In my opinion, this had fallen through those checks and balances.” According to the trainer, Frederickson’s extreme weight loss was due to the failure of Biggest Loser to keep in touch with the contestant and monitor her weight loss after she went home to compete.

Michaels also commented that she believes that extreme weight loss and morbid obesity as virtually the same issue.

“It simply means that somebody is utilizing their relationship with food to manage emotions that are painful, hard, difficult to face or control.”

Fellow trainer Bob Harper was also on hand to witness Frederickson’s transformation and it appears he’s been reluctant to be as vocal as Michaels about the 5’4 young woman’s extreme weight loss, despite admitting to being stunned at the sight of her.

Despite the concerns of Biggest Loser trainers and much of the internet, Frederickson does not seem to share in any worry regarding whether or not she went too far.

Frederickson was busily enjoying the attention her smaller size had given her. Frederickson said to E! News about her weight loss, “I feel truly alive and just transformed. I couldn’t be more happy, more thankful to get this second chance to take charge of my life again.”

Dolvett Quince, the trainer credited with Frederickson’s extreme weight loss also dismissed the backlash garnered by the stunning result.

He responded to the internet outcry by saying, “Biggest Loser is a journey which has its ups and downs. Please try not to look at one slice of Rachel’s journey and come to broad conclusions.”

  • “Biggest Loser” Winner Responds To Uproar

“The Biggest Loser” has become a reality show phenomenon; a competition that viewers can not only follow, but might be inspired by to begin their own weight loss journey. In recent years, the show has seen its share of drama, not just between the contestants but with the coaches as well. Late last year, celebrity contestant Ruben Studdard was brought back after being kicked off because of a misstep by coach Jillian Michaels.

But the show has never seen anything quite like the finale that aired on Tuesday night, when 24-year old Rachel Frederickson stepped out onto the stage to reveal a dramatic 155-pound weight loss. After losing almost 60% of her body weight–going from 260 lbs. to 105–Frederickson shocked the audience and the trainers, who couldn’t contain their expressions when they saw her thin frame. According to the National Institute of Health, Frederickson is now considered to be underweight due to her petite stature.

After the show aired, an immediate backlash began on the web regarding Frederickson’s extreme weight loss, with some calling her “anorexic” and urging her to get help. But when she appeared on “Access Hollywood Live” later, she explained that she feels she’s right where she needs to be.

“My journey was about finding that confident girl and little by little, challenge by challenge that athlete came out and it sparked inside that feeling that I can do anything,” she said of her record-breaking weight loss.

Frederickson says she lost herself because of a relationship, and now that she’s regained her athleticism, she doesn’t want to look back. After not going out on a date for six years, the time had come for a dramatic change.

“I used to be a swimmer and I was in a relationship and I stopped swimming for a relationship,” she said. “And I lost the self-confidence and self-worth…I feel so alive and energetic. You don’t ever have to hide that light, just let it shine.”
