  • Betty White Becomes Wax, Joins the Madame Tussauds Museum

Nearly everyone knows the world’s favorite “Golden Girl” Betty White. However, most people probably aren’t aware that she has a twin – a wax figure twin, that is. Actress and comedian, Betty White received the prestigious honor of joining the celebrity wax figure collection at the famous Madame Tussauds museum in Washington, D.C.

Madame Tussauds is one of the most notable celebrity wax museums in the world. With 14 locations in four different continents, the museum has replicated some of the world’s most prominent figures, creating life-like, artistic statues that bare striking resemblances to human features. The museum has re-created everyone from the 44 presidents and the activists of civil rights to sports legends and A-list entertainers.

On Wednesday morning, a commemoration ceremony will take place for the official unveiling of the wax figure. According to the Washington Post, Lisa LaFontaine, CEO of the Washington Humane Society will do the honors in an effort to pay homage to White’s fervent love for animals.

While the honor denotes great merit, it won’t be White’s first life-size replica. In 2012, White had another wax figure unveiled at Madame Tussauds of Los Angeles.

She also had another extraordinary replica created that came in the form of a cake – a life-size cake. In 2012, Cake Boss’ Buddy Valastro created a life-size cake figure replicating Betty White. The cake was created for Betty White’s official roast at the famous Friar’s Club of New York City.

With more than 65 years in the film industry, the 91-year-old actress has won six Emmy Awards. Her record-breaking feat also goes down in history as she is the only female to have an Emmy in all of the comedic categories. White became a household name with her roles as Sue Ann Nivens on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and Rose Nylund on “The Golden Girls.” White shows no signs that her momentum will wane anytime soon. She now portrays Elka Ostrosky on the hit show “Hot in Cleveland,” which has earned her two SAG awards.

  • Betty White To Join Madame Tussauds Wax Museum

Betty White, the popular television actress, has been chosen to join Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. The museum is located in Washington D.C. and will soon be the home to a wax sculpture of the television icon. The museum is well-known and has featured many other notable celebrities over the years, in addition to the many U.S. presidents. It is always an attraction for people to see, and the new wax figure featuring White will be unveiled on Wednesday.

Betty White has enjoyed an incredibly successful career in television including her role as Rose on The Golden Girls. Since then, she has recently appeared in Hot In Cleveland, which gained her recognition from many critics and several awards shows. She also hosted a situation comedy show called Betty White’s Off Their Rockers, which premiered in 2012. She is also known for her role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, years before she appeared in The Golden Girls.

In addition to being a television and pop culture icon, Betty White has also gained attention for her work with animals and being known to the public as an animal lover. Lisa LaFontaine, CEO of the Washington Humane Society, will unveil the figure to pay homage to the star’s passion for animals, according to NBC News. The Human Society will also have its mobile adoption center at the museum Tuesday for visitors to adopt animals.

The veteran actress turned 91 earlier this year and does not show any sign of slowing down, as she continues her role on Hot In Cleveland, and continues to make public appearances. She also played a voice in The Lorax in 2012. In the past few years, she also appeared on several talk shows and even as the host of Saturday Night Live. She is the last surviving member of the cast of The Golden Girls, and continues to gain popularity with younger audiences as well, due to her outrageously funny antics.

  • Betty White Turns 91! A Look At Her Best Moments

Betty White is not just the sole remaining Golden Girl; she’s not just the raunchy funny lady who made us laugh on “Mama’s Family” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”; she’s not just an animal rights advocate who likes to play pranks on people. She’s all of those things and much, much more.

As she celebrates her 91st birthday today, let’s take a look back at some of the more awesome, funny, touching, and blush-worthy moments of her career. Happy birthday Betty! Shine on, you crazy diamond.

That time she got drunk with Letterman

  • Betty White Going Up Against Eastwood At DNC?

Betty White is one of the most beloved actors people of our generation; she’s funny, she’s brash, she’s graced our televisions since before most of us were born, and, at 90-years old, she’s a part of our history, yet she manages to never take anything too seriously. Also, she has friends in high places.

White hasn’t made it a secret that she favors President Obama, and now Change.org is hosting an online petition to get her to introduce him at the Democratic National Convention. After Clint Eastwood’s speech at the RNC–which didn’t go over so well–the Dems are looking for someone unassuming yet whip-smart, funny yet kind, with a good reputation in the celebrity world. Betty White fits that bill perfectly.

    The petition states:

Clint Eastwood, the Republican’s “mystery guest” at the RNC, gave a bad name to older Americans everywhere with his absurd and awkward-to-watch introduction of Governor Romney.

    You know what?

Governor Romney can have Clint Eastwood and his improvisational skills because President Obama has the one and only Betty White!

Take action today if you want to see a real [old] Hollywood icon get a political introduction right!

With almost 6,000 signatures, the site just needs about 1,500 more. And as some of you may remember, White was drafted to host “Saturday Night Live” in 2010 because of a petition very similar to this one. The power of the web.

  • Betty White Goes To Washington: Icon Checking Out The Zoo

Betty White is known for a lot of things; namely, her acting career, which has spanned over six decades and includes credits on hit television shows like “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”, “Mama’s Family”, and of course, “The Golden Girls”.

But she’s also known for her love of animals, something she learned from her own parents as a child.

“My interest in animals started in the womb,” White said. “I think my mother’s and father’s started in the same place. They were animal nuts long before I came along.”

The actress is so well known for it, in fact, that many of the characters she’s portrayed over the years have also been animal lovers, something which was probably written into scripts at her urging. As a “Golden Girls” fan, I can recall several episodes which saw Rose pestering her roommates to get a pet, or rescuing a dog, or something of the like.

This week, she’ll be traveling to Washington to check out the animals at the zoo after a trip to the Smithsonian, and says she’s especially excited to see a famous harmonica-playing elephant housed there. White considers herself something of an authority on animals, having been an advocate for them for so many years (and writing books about them), and doesn’t agree with the idea that zoos are cruel places.

“So many people say, ‘Oh, I hate zoos. I want all the animals to be back in their natural habitat,’” she said. “Well, you know what we’ve done to their natural habitat. Without zoos, we would have lost already so many species.”

The zookeepers are just as excited to see White as she is to see the animals and say they are honored to meet someone who cares so much about the work they do.

White joined Twitter just last month and has already won over some admirers with her tweets:

  • Betty White Now On Twitter, Tweets Ryan Seacrest Love

American treasure and former Golden Girl Betty White has officially joined the fast-paced madness that is Twitter. And in less than 24 hours, the 90-year-old actress has amassed over 118,000 followers.

The famed comedienne has yet to really bust out her best stuff, having only the chance to send out three tweets so far. The first was a hello to the Twitterverse. The second was a promotional tweet (which few celebrity Twitter accounts avoid). And the third is a shot out and risque request to Ryan Seacrest. I’d say she’s doing it right so far.

The real Betty White (@BettyMWhite – M stands for “Marion”) is going to have to compete with a pretty strong parody account. @BettyFckinWhite has been around for quite some time and has over 100K followers of their own. Of course, the real Betty White has overcome that number in about 17 hours.

Betty White has seen a pop culture resurgence in the last few years. Her role on the TV Land sitcom Hot in Cleveland has won her an Emmy and some Screen Actors Guild awards. Her upcoming show on NBC is what she promoted via her second-ever tweet. Betty White’s Off Their Rockers is a practical joke show that features folks from the older generation pranking the younger ones. That show debuted earlier this month.

  • 85 Year Old’s Review of New Olive Garden Location May Make her The Betty White of the Brand

Never overestimate the tastes of the American people. A review of the new Olive Garden in Grand Forks, ND has gone viral.

The writer of the review is 85-year-old Marilyn Hagerty who has worked for the Grand Forks Herald; she has won numerous awards and authored thousands of articles, but none of them have received as much attention as her Olive Garden article. In the article she described having a lunch of fettuccine Alfredo, and a salad topped with several black olives. She called Olive Garden “the largest, most beautiful restaurant in Grand Forks. […] The place is impressive. It’s fashioned in Tuscan farmhouse style with a welcoming entryway. There is seating for those who are waiting.”

Some people really liked the review and thought that it was sweet while others find a review of such a major chain to be trivial and adding to a culture of idiocracy. The reaction requires framing though; someone who has never been to an Olive Garden is more likely to be impressed by its decor and ambience than someone who has had a location right around the corner for decades. Seeing as the chain is new to the area, it is understandable why Hagerty was so taken.

Hagerty says that her phone has been ringing off the hook for the past three days. According to wmctv.com she said that her review is getting so much attention that it feels like “a wild dream” and she doesn’t care if people jest at her positive impression of the new Olive Garden.

Individuals who work for and represent Olive Garden are stoked about the review, “We really love to see all the support we’ve had from all the Olive Garden fans out there that have stood up for her and the Olive Garden and given us more positive feedback,” said Donald Szutenbach, Olive Garden General Manager.

Her article has received over 1.3 million hits and has even landed her an interview on abc and a television appearance on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” with guest host Jane Lynch from the Fox TV hit “Glee.”

Here is what some people tweeted about her review:

Twitter and YouTube Celebrate Betty White’s 90th

My wife is a Golden Girls fanatic. She has seen every episode multiple times, but still sets the DVR to record marathons. A friend of mine once tweeted that she hated Rose Nylund with a passion. That show stopped running in 1992. Twenty years ago.

Today is Betty White’s birthday. She is 90 years old. One by one, all her Golden Girls co-stars have shuffled off this mortal coil. Ditzy Rose outlasted them all.
