  • Artrell Hawkins Found Not Guilty in Domestic Violence Dispute

Former professional football player Artrell Hawkins was found not guilty of domestic violence by a Cincinnati Court judge on Thursday.

The ruling at a Hamilton County Municipal Court on Thursday came a little less than two months after Hawkins, a former Bengals defensive back and NFL commentator, was accused by his wife of initiating a late-night altercation at a Springdale home where she was staying.

When police responded to a call regarding a possible domestic dispute at the home on Feb. 15, Hawkins’ wife told police that he had slashed her tires and kicked the basement door, which led her to be scared for her safety and the safety of her children, according to court documents.

In 911 audio, the father of the Hawkins’ wife said “her and her husband are getting separated. He has bashed the door down and sliced all the tires on her car. He’s threatening to do harm to her and the kids.”

Hawkins’ wife filed a restraining order, and Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Cheryl Grant released Hawkins on $5,000 bail. The judge also ordered him to wear an electronic monitoring device on his ankle.

Prosecutors called four witnesses to the stand at the trial on Thursday morning. Hawkins, 37, of Symmes Township, was the only defense witness.

Hawkins played six seasons with the Bengals, one with Carolina and two with New England, after being drafted in the second round of the 1998 draft out of the University of Cincinnati. He retired from the NFL in 2006.

Hawkins said Thursday that media reports of the incident were inaccurate, and that he was glad that his name was cleared.

  • Bengals Punter Kevin Huber Suffers Jaw Fracture

Cincinnati Bengals punter Kevin Huber suffered a fractured jaw after taking a massive hit from the Steelers’ special teams player Terence Gavin last night, during Pittsburgh’s 30-20 win.

During the first quarter, Antonio Brown of Pittsburgh returned a punt from Huber, leaving the kicker as one of the few Bengals present to make a tackle. The Steelers’ Terence Gavin came in for a block with his helmet down, knocking Huber to the ground, leaving the punter with a bleeding face.

No flag was called during the play, though it’s likely that Gavin will be fined by the NFL for the hit. It was later reported that Cincinnati-born Huber suffered a fractured jaw during the play, and wouldn’t be returning to the game.

After the hit, Huber remained lying down in the field for about 3 minutes, before being helped to his feet. He then jogged toward the locker room with gauze hanging out of his mouth.

The Bengals confirm Huber’s fractured jaw on Twitter.

Kevin J. Huber previously played for the University of Cincinnati, and was a two-time All-American. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Bengals, after being regarded as being one of the top punter prospects that year.

Huber takes to Twitter to acknowledge the ‘get well’ sentiments from his fans:

No word yet if Huber will be missing any additional games.

  • Ben Roethlisberger Struggling This Season

Steelers heartbreak happened for the second time this season when the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers with a final score of Steelers 21 and Bengals 23. The dismal season to-date for Ben Roethlisberger becomes obvious when considering his plays thus far, which include having passed only 442 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the total of the two games. That’s an average of one-for-one with only two games into the season.

When battling the Bengals in the second game of the season for the Steelers, Roethlisberger passed 251 yards and made one touchdown. Fans should not be too disheartened with Roethlisberger’s performance just yet since he has the reputation for putting on the heat when the pressure rises. The video recap of the Steelers and Bengals showdown on Monday night proves how close the two teams competed for the win.

Though only two games into the season, fans have started voicing concerns that Ben Roethlisberger is being viewed as a caricature of himself where his skills and hype are disproportionate to the observable performances and expectations placed upon his broad shoulders. However, the season is just starting and the famous quarterback still has time to prove himself before being subjected to another potential discarding. Whether the Steelers will redeem themselves this season is anyone’s guess; however, in the meantime people are all too happy to comment on the potential outcomes for the season.
