CES 2020: Samsung Unveils Rolling Robot ‘Ballie’

It’s not quite BB-8, but Samsung may have unveiled the next best thing in a rolling robot named “Ballie.”

According to Engadget, Ballie is designed to be an assistant, essentially running a smart home. The robot “has a ‘mobile interface’ that looks for ways to improve your life as your needs change using its built-in AI.”

In a YouTube video the company posted, Ballie acts as a household manager, opening shades, triggering a woman’s alarm clock, assisting her with her workout, turning the TV on for the dog once she leaves, sending her a video feed of the dog happily watching TV, playing with the dog and even summoning the robot vacuum when the dog makes a mess.

One gets the impression from watching the video that if you imagined a butler, managing almost every aspect of running a home, as a little yellow ball…you would have Ballie. While Samsung has not announced when Ballie will be available or how much it will cost, the company will likely have a major hit on its hands.

  • John Boyega, Daisy Ridley: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Cast Members Walk Red Carpet in Shanghai, China for Film Premiere

John Boyega and his costar Daisy Ridley walked the red carpet in Shanghai, China on Sunday for the Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere. Director J.J. Abrams joined the actors.

Looking dashing in his maroon suit with satin lapels, John Boyega plays the role of Finn in the new Star Wars film. The handsome 23-year-old no doubt loved walking the red carpet alongside his beautiful costar Daisy Ridley, who wore a deep purple Jason Wu sleeveless gown. Ridley, who plays the role of Rey in the new film, accented her look with Meira T jewelry and a Tyler Alexandra clutch. She paired her gown with sexy Jimmy Choo shoes.

Both John Boyega and Daisy Ridley posed on the red carpet with a new Star Wars icon, a roly-poly droid called BB-8, as well as the classic robot R2-D2.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and more boasts the biggest Christmas film opening ever, and in the days after Christmas has officially hit the $1 billion mark.

Have you checked out the new Star Wars film yet? What do you think of some of the new characters, including those played by John Boyega and Daisy Ridley?

  • Amy Poehler Doesn’t Care About “Star Wars,” and She “Never F***ing Did”

Amy Poehler doesn’t care about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and she never cared about it–in fact, she told Seth Meyers she “never f*cking did.”

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and other cast members of their new film Sisters visited Late Night With Seth Meyers on Thursday, touting the merits of their film. In fact, they hoped to convince Star Wars: The Force Awakens fans to see Sisters in addition to or in place of the latest installment. It has to be a bit disconcerting to have your film premiere on the same weekend as Star Wars. What are the odds of that?

In keeping with their “see our film” theme, Seth Meyers presented each of them with a Star Wars action figure, with which they were to make their case to viewers and Seth’s audience for seeing Sisters.

Ike Barinholtz went first, holding up his Kylo Ren figurine. Adam Driver plays Kylo Ren in the film.

”Why would you see a movie with the guy from Girls when you could see a movie with the guy from The Mindy Project?” he asked.

“I am a creature. I don’t have any relatives, but if I did, I wish I could have two sisters,” Tina Fey said in a really bad attempt at impersonating PZ-4CO, the new droid in Star Wars.

Amy Poehler’s action figure was that of Constable Zuvio. After attempting–and failing–at pronouncing his name three times in a row, she gave up and spoke her mind about the new Star Wars film.

“I don’t care! I don’t care about Star Wars and I never f*cking did. I’m tired of pretending; I don’t care about it,” she exclaimed.

Amy Poehler gave it the old college try, however, and attempted to make Zuvio talk. She hid the action figure’s face, saying he’s embarrassed that he’s seeing Star Wars.

Rachel Dratch did a Wookie impersonation that wasn’t half bad, after which Maya Rudolph tried helping redeem Amy Poehler.

“I will never know the touch of a real woman. Please go see Sisters,” she said in the voice of her figurine, BB-8.

Did you catch Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and the rest of their Sisters cast mates when they visited with Seth Meyers on Thursday? Did they convince you to skip Star Wars and see Sisters instead? Did they at least convince you to check out Sisters in addition to Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

The Atlantic says Sisters is awful–but Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are great. The New York Times says go see it when you run out of shows on TV. It doesn’t sound like something people will forego Star Wars to see–does it?

Might these reviews help you make your decision about seeing Sisters–or not?

  • Amy Poehler Speaks Candidly About “Star Wars,” Apparently Not a Fan

  • Daisy Ridley of ‘Star Wars’ Is Not a Fan of Social Media

Daisy Ridley says she is not that into social media.

Unlike most starlets of her age, the 23-year-old British actress does not like to go to social media to share her life, saying that she has been turned off by the negativity and trolling that is all too common on the internet today.

“I kind of loathe to go on social media. I find the trolling unacceptable and I never wanted to look like I was someone who would accept that,” Daisy Ridley recently admitted to Refinery29. “But the 99 — no, I would actually say 100% of the people [who’ve interacted with me on social media] have been so wonderful so far.”

She added, “My life is real average, and it’s nice to share that with people. And to see people’s conspiracies and their theories, that’s fun. It’s really fun to be part of.”

Meanwhile, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens star shared a cute moment on stage with her costar John Boyega during the much-anticipated premiere held Friday night at the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel in Urayasu, Japan.

The two actors were joined by co-stars Adam Driver, BB-8 and director J.J. Abrams for the opening of the film that is expected to earn billions of dollars for Disney and LucasFilms.

According to Just Jared, Jr., Daisy Ridley was a gracious star and took some time to take a photo or two with fans when she arrived back stateside at LAX airport in Los Angeles.
