  • Roddy White Takes His Share Of The Blame

Roddy White Takes His Share Of The Blame

The Atlanta Falcons are 2-4. They were embarrassed on their own field last week against the Chicago Bears, taking a 27-13 beating. When everything seems to go wrong on a team that is supposed to be a Super Bowl contender, many players and coaches must accept their share of the blame. Veteran wide receiver Roddy White is not about making excuses, he knows that there have been catchable passes that he’s dropped. And, he knows that if the Falcons are going to bounce back and make a run at the playoffs, then he needs to step up his game.

“I’ve gotten off to a really slow start,” White said. “Not one of my favorable years that I’m having. But I’ve got to turn my game around for our team to start playing better. I’m a leader on this team, and I haven’t been going out there and playing like Roddy White football. I’ve got to get back to just being myself — go out there and just cut it loose — and whatever happens, happens.”

The 32-year-old receiver has caught 19 catches in five games this season. He also has three dropped passes, which ties him for the fourth most in the NFL among wide receivers.

One of those dropped passes came in a critical point in last week’s game against the Bears. “I kind of took my eyes of the ball and tried to look for safety and see where he was at,” White explained. “Then, before he got there I dropped it and then he hit me. That was just one bad play of many that we had.” He added, “It was one of those crucial ones in the game where if I had caught it, it would have made a difference.”

While White is no longer considered the number one wide receiver on the team, that distinction goes to Julio Jones, his role is still vital to the success of the Falcons. His frustration on not being in sync with quarterback Matt Ryan is evident. “When you go out there and practice and execute plays and things come up that way in a game and you don’t get it done, it’s frustrating on your behalf because all my career I’ve made those plays,” White said. “Right now, I’m just not making them. It’s frustrating for me that I feel like I’m letting my team down in those circumstances. I’ve got to do a better job of just helping everybody else around the offense; just going out there and making the plays that they design for me to make.”

White and the Falcons will look to bounce back this Sunday on the road against a very tough Baltimore Ravens (4-2) team.

  • Is Kroy Biermann Distracted With Reality TV Life?

Kroy Biermann is back on the field!

The preseason is over and it’s time to get down to the real business. The Atlanta Falcons defensive end will be hitting the gridiron on Sunday for the team’s season opener against the New Orleans Saints.

But, football definitely isn’t the only obligation he has.

The 28-year-old Montana native is also a reality TV star. Biermann frequently appears on the Bravo reality series Don’t Be Tardy with his wife Kim Zolciak and their six children!

However, for the past month, Biermann has been a part of a different type of reality series – HBO’s Hard Knocks.

Since the 2014 season of the reality sports series features the Falcons, Biermann has been in front of the cameras quite a bit this year. Some fans are wondering will all of the camera time affect his performance on the field.

For those who don’t know, Biermann was out the entire 2013 season after he tore his Achilles tendon on September 16 of last year.

So, the series actually chronicled Biermann’s official return to the gridiron. But, he’s reportedly not worried about anything and nothing is going to distract him from the game.

During a recent interview, Biermann put things into perspective and insisted that he’s not distracted by any of the cameras rolling around him. He has work to do and he’s definitely focused on getting the job done, reports ESPN.

“Like I’ve told people in the past, that’s her deal,” Biermann explained. “That’s her job. That’s something that she really enjoys to do. And, I don’t mind. I’m around. I’m in the house. And so, that’s kind of where you see me,” he continued.

“I’m not really that big of a role in the show because it’s her deal. But we’re a family so when they’re filming her, I might be around,” he said. “There are boundaries there that they know they can’t cross with me. It’s a balance, but it’s not too hard.”

Biermann’s family is well aware of the work he has to do. The big man is expected to start on Sunday so he has to be ready and staying focused is the key. But, he is confident that he’s up for the job. When asked about his health, he said he feels great!

“I think I’m good and I think the preseason was a good test,” Biermann said of his health. “I feel great. I’m ready to go. The biggest thing is switching to a little bit more coverage this year,” he explained.

“I want to get that down. You never want to turn a guy loose because he might beat you. He may beat you because he got you on one play, but you never want to turn a guy loose. And that’s mentally being prepared for the route you’re going to see.”

The Atlanta Falcons take on the New Orleans Saints Sunday, September 7 in the Georgia Dome at 12:00pm ET.

  • Brett Favre Endorses Thad Cochran in US Senate Race

Brett Favre, retired NFL quarterback, recently lent his support to Republican incumbent Thad Cochran in his bid for reelection to the United States Senate.

Favre was born in Gulfport, Mississippi and raised in the nearby small town of Kiln. He attended University of Southern Mississippi before being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1991 NFL Draft.

Cochran is up against Tea Party-backed state Senator Chris McDaniel in the Mississippi primary. Voters first went to the polls on June 3, in a vote that slightly favored McDaniel. However McDaniel needed at least 50 percent of the votes, which he didn’t get. So he and Cochran will face off again on June 24.

“A lot of people stayed home because they thought we had it in the bag,” Cochran said after the June 3 vote. “Now we’ve discovered that this is a close election. I’m appealing to my friends and supporters to get busy and work with me.”

Cochran and his backers are pulling out all the stops, and that’s where Favre’s endorsement comes in. Favre lent his support in the form of an advertisement on the US Chamber of Commerce’s YouTube channel:

“I’ve learned through football that strong leadership makes the difference between winning and losing. And when it comes to our state’s future, trust me: Mississippi can win and win big with Thad Cochran,” Favre said in the ad. “Thad Cochran always delivers, just like he did during Katrina.”

Cochran’s tenure in the US Senate dates all the way back to the Carter Administration: he was first elected in 1978, making him the third most-senior Senator and the second most-senior Republican member.

The US Chamber of Commerce is one of Cochran’s biggest supporters. They’ve spent more than $500,000 on campaign ads in his race against McDaniel.

The Chamber has funneled its support through the Mississippi Conservatives PAC, headed by Henry Barbour, nephew of former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour who still wields tremendous political influence in the state.

According to the younger Barbour the US Chamber of Commerce has “credibility with regular folks down here, and people pay attention when they engage.”

But some see the Barbours’ support of Cochran as an example of good old boys taking care of one of their own, part of a “Republican elite that would rather cut deals with Democrats to spend more public money than rein in the size and power of the federal government.”

  • Atlanta Falcons Suffer Serious Loss

After a disappointing 2013 season, the Atlanta Falcons are already off to a bad start, and the NFL season doesn’t even begin for another two and a half months. The team announced today that Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon ruptured his Achilles tendon yesterday and will miss the entire 2014 season.

The former first-round pick out of Missouri reportedly suffered the injury while running. He was being supervised by the team’s medical staff due to a foot injury that kept him off the field for half of last season. In fact, Weatherspoon has a history of injuries. His only healthy season came in 2011 when the linebacker had four sacks and 80 tackles.

Falcon’s head coach Mike Smith released the following statement, “During Sean’s run today with our medical staff, he suffered an injury. We sent Sean to the doctor for some additional testing and evaluation and unfortunately the results showed that he ruptured his Achilles tendon.” Smith added, “Sean had been working extremely hard to get back on the field, but regrettably he will miss the entire 2014 season. He will have a procedure done in the near future and we expect him to make a full recovery.”

The Falcons may have immediate help coming from this year’s rookie class. The team took four linebackers in the 2014 NFL draft. They drafted Prince Shembo in the fourth round out of Notre Dame, Marquis Spruill in the fifth round out of Syracuse, Yawin Smallwood in the seventh round out of Connecticut, and Tyler Starr also in the seventh round out of South Dakota.

The Falcons finished last season with an abysmal 4-13 record, despite going into last season as Super Bowl contenders. They reached the NFC Championship game in 2012, and were a mere ten yards shy of beating the San Francisco 49ers, which would have led the team to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1998.

  • Herschel Walker, MMA Fighter, Wants To Play Football, Thinks Trump Should Own Buffalo Bills

In an interview with USA Today, Herschel Walker, 52 year old former NFL running back and current MMA fighter, said “I can play in the NFL today.” Although he conceded that he “couldn’t take every snap”, he was quick to point out, “running backs nowadays don’t play every down. Now they send in the choir section. Physically, I can still do it.”

Walker made similar noises about returning to the NFL back in 2011, when he was still 48. “I’ve told everyone that at 50 I might try football again to show people I can do that,” he had said at a news conference, “I’m 48 and in better shape now than I was when I was in my early 20s, playing football.” He added that, if he did join a team, it would be the Atlanta Falcons because “I’m a Georgia boy. That’s just home.”

It has been 17 years since Walker last played football. His last game was in 1997 when he played for the Dallas Cowboys and barely touched the ball. The Cowboys lost to the New York Giants 20 to 7.

Playing football wasn’t all Walker discussed with USA Today. He said that Donald Trump would be “a great owner, and a credible owner” for the Buffalo Bills.

“People can think what they want to think about Jerry Jones — he’s a terrible general manager, but he’s a great owner. He has done a tremendous job in marketing his team to keep it relevant. I think that’s the same thing Donald Trump would do with the Buffalo Bills,” Walker explained, “He may rub some people the wrong way, but you can’t argue with his success as a businessman. You want an owner with some flair. He knows how to promote.”

Speaking of promotion, Trump was apparently tickled with Walker’s comments, repeating them in a tweet:

There is no mention of Walker’s comments on his Twitter account. Instead, the former football player focuses on his charity efforts. WHAS11 reported that Walker was in Louisville, KY last week to discuss mental health. Health, both mental and physical, has been a key issue for Walker in the many charity events he attends.

Herschel Walker wrote Breaking Free: My Life with Dissociative Identity Disorder. According to the publisher’s website, “In Breaking Free, Herschel tells his story — from the joys and hardships of childhood to his explosive impact on college football to his remarkable professional career. And he gives voice and hope to those suffering from DID. Herschel shows how this disorder played an integral role in his accomplishments and how he has learned to live with it today.”

  • Roddy White, WR for the Atlanta Falcons, Arrested

Early Tuesday morning, NFL wide receive Roddy White was arrested by the Gwinnett County Police. Unlike other NFL arrests in 2013 and 2014, this one does not involve drugs or violence. Fortunately for fans of the Atlanta Falcons and for Roddy White himself, the reason for the arrest is quite minor.

At a little after 3:00 am Tuesday morning, Gwinnett County police pulled Roddy White over for traveling 75 mph in a 65 mph zone along I-85. Upon running White’s credentials, police discovered that White had an outstanding warrant for “non-transparent material on windows,” an offense for which White failed to appear in court. Due to his negligence, White was booked at the Gwinnett County Jail around 4:30 am Tuesday morning and was promptly released after posting the $168 bail and spending a whopping 90 minutes in the slammer.

While one can expect that this incident will carry no fine or punishment from the NFL or the Falcons, Atlanta released a statement this morning in which they declined to comment on the issue: “We are aware of the incident involving Roddy White. We anticipate this will be resolved shortly and we will have no further comment at this time.”

White is currently in his 9th season in the NFL after being chosen by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the 2005 draft. Thus far in his career, White has proven to be an important fixture of the explosive Atlanta offense, racking up nearly 10,000 yards and 55 touchdowns. White has been selected to play in 4 Pro Bowls and led the NFL in receptions in 2010. This past season, however, White’s performance was hampered by injury and as a result the Falcons’ wide receiver caught only 63 passes for a total of 711 yards and 3 touchdowns

Fortunately for White, his misfortune may be overshadowed by news generated from fellow teammate and now former NFL player Tony Gonzalez. The former Falcon and arguably best tight-end of all time cemented his departure from the NFL Tuesday as he signed a contract with CBS to become an analyst on The NFL Today and other pre- and post-game shows for the network.

  • Tony Gonzalez Braces For Retirement, Preps For Last NFL Game

“Parting is such sweet sorrow.” It appears that is exactly what Atlanta Falcons tight-end Tony Gonzalez is feeling.

The Panthers-Falcons game will definitely be bittersweet tomorrow, as it will mark the last time Gonzalez will play in an NFL game.

He’s finally made the decision to retire after more than 15 years of success on the gridiron.

However, the Washington Post reports that the 13-time Pro Bowl veteran is having a much more difficult time with the finality than he ever expected.

Back in March, the Falcons announced Gonzalez would be returning for the 2013-14 season. Even then, it was clear Gonzalez would retiring and he was ‘100 percent certain’ of the decision.

But, as time progressed and the big day drew closer, Gonzalez began to have more reservations about his last game.

“I’d have to cross that bridge when I get to it, but right now I don’t have any plans,” Gonzalez said. “I know for sure I won’t be on an opening day for roster anybody. I’m going to— this is it. This is it.”

While tomorrow’s game against the Panthers won’t change anything for the 4-11 Falcons, the main focal point will be the tribute and dedication to Gonzalez.

The Falcons have also announced that Gonzalez will be presented a honorary helmet representing both teams he played for throughout his 17-season tenure in the NFL. A picture of the honorary helmet was posted on the Falcons’ official Twitter timeline.

The Falcons also took to Twitter to share a number of memorable photos throughout Gonzalez’s previous seasons with the team.

Gonzalez was entered the NFL in 1997 as a 1st round draft pick. He made his NFL debut with the Kansas Chiefs where he played until 2008. He was then traded to the Atlanta Falcons for the 2009 NFL season. As of Week 15 this season, Gonzalez has a cumulative career total of 1,313 receptions, 15,008 receiving yards, and 110 touchdowns. He was named NFL ‘Tight End of the Year’ in 2000 and 2003.

The numbers definitely don’t lie, and they tell a laudable story of success where Gonzalez’s career is concerned. Gonzalez’s last game is expected to be quite special and emotionally driven. More than 40 of his family members and close friends are expected to be present at the Falcons’ season finale.

  • Tony Gonzalez Will Play His Final NFL Game On Sunday

Tony Gonzalez is finally ready to call it quits after a lengthy and very successful career in the NFL. He has spent 17 seasons as a tight end in the league, and has played for two teams throughout his career.

His final game will be on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers before retiring as a member of the Atlanta Falcons. Tony Gonzalez is sure to be a member of the NFL Hall of Fame in the future after setting several records as one of the best tight ends to play the sport.

He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1997, and after a great deal of success with the Chiefs, he has played with the Atlanta Falcons since 2009. London Fletcher, another veteran in the league, also announced his retirement recently.

In their final game of the season, the Falcons have nothing to play for with a record of 4-11. However, the Carolina Panthers are already in the playoffs, and will attempt to get an even better seed with a win in the final game of the season.

The Panthers will be playing without their star wide receiver Steve Smith, who was injured in the first quarter of their week 16 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Tony Gonzalez has had a great career, and while admitting that he could continue playing, he feels that his career has come to an end. However, he still remains to be one of the top tight ends in the league, and during the 2013 season, he has averaged 10 yards per reception and is on pace for more than 80 catches and 900 yards.

He is likely to say goodbye to the league after Sunday’s game, although as fans of the Atlanta Falcons probably remember, the veteran also said that he was 95% sure that he would retire after the 2012 season.

The decision seems to have to do with his family, and Gonzalez admitted that if his team was in Los Angeles where his family lives that he would likely keep playing, but that is not the case.

After a successful career of 17 seasons in the NFL that sent him to multiple Pro Bowls, Tony Gonzalez is likely to head to retirement.

He is also set to receive a helmet during his final game that will commemorate the two teams that he played for.

  • Steve Smith, Panthers Wide Receiver Will Be Out Week 17 Against Falcons

Steve Smith has become one of the elite wide receivers in the NFL while playing for the Carolina Panthers. Due to a recent injury in an intense game against the Saints, he will be forced to sit out for the final game of the season.

Although Steve Smith has been the favorite target of Cam Newton for much of the time that the two of them have been playing together, he will have to turn to someone else as his main receiver on Sunday.

The offense struggled without him in week 16, and without the help of another late comeback from superstar quarterback Cam Newton, they may have lost to the Saints, and hurt their chances of making the playoffs.

Brandon LaFell is now the main target for Newton, and should have what it takes to get the job done until Steve Smith can return. Ted Ginn has also been doing well lately, and is likely to step up in the absence of Steve Smith

He is likely to make an appearance for their first round of the playoffs with the MRI revealing the injury to be not quite as serious as he might have thought.

He said he heard a “pop” in the first quarter of their last game, but the MRI has revealed that he has a PCL sprain, which should not keep him off the field for too long.

With their last win at home against the New Orleans Saints, the Panthers secured the second spot in the playoffs, and with another win on Sunday, they could make their chances of getting a top spot even better.

The NFC playoff picture is wide open heading into week 17, and with only 3 teams that have clinched so far, anything could happen still in terms of seeds, and the teams that make it.

The Carolina Panthers are currently one of the hottest teams in the league, and even without Steve Smith, Cam Newton should have no trouble leading them to another victory against the Atlanta Falcons. The Panthers are 11-4 in the NFC South, meanwhile the Falcons have an opposite record of 4-11, and have continued to struggle throughout the season.

If the Panthers are to play in the first round, which would take place next week, coach Ron Rivera believes that Steve Smith would be ready to get back on the field. He said that he would never bet against him, and as one of the leading receivers in the NFL, and a leader on the team, he will be missed on the field.

  • Colin Kaepernick Leads 49ers To Victory, Secures Third Playoff Spot

In an expected victory, but what turned out to be much more of a thrilling game, Colin Kaepernick led his San Francisco 49ers to a victory against the Atlanta Falcons.

While the Falcons have been one of the worst teams in the league this year and had nothing to play for, the 49ers still needed the victory in order to stay alive n the race for the playoffs.

The 49ers play in the NFC West, which has become the toughest division to play in, due to the excellent star power behind Colin Kapernick of the 49ers and Russell WIilson of the Seattle Seahawks. The Cardinals also follow closely behind, and are still fighting for a playoff spot with a record of 10-5.

With the recent win against the Falcons on Monday Night Football, the 49ers also become the third team to clinch a spot in the playoffs. They join the Seahawks and Panthers, who have both been dominant this season.

It was looking for a while like the 49ers were in trouble when trailing 10-3 at the half, but they turned things around after halftime, and scored 31 points in an explosive offensive half.

The 49ers won the game with a final score of 34-24. The victory was sealed when Navorro Bowman returned an interception 89 yards for a touchdown with 1:10 remaining, and it was a historic win, as it is likely the last game that the 49ers will be at Candlestick Park, and their last home game of the season.

Speaking on the incredible play to end the game, coach Jim Harbaugh said “That’s been the best thing I’ve ever seen happen in a football game. It might have been close to ‘The Catch’.”

Of course, any 49ers fan would know that “The Catch” that Harbaugh is referring to is the game winning touchdown pass from Joe Montana to Dwight Clark. It was during the 1981 NFC Championship Game, and sent the 49ers to their first Super Bowl.

After Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to the win, it also helps to create several different playoff scenarios, and all sorts of situations for the end of their season.

San Francisco still has a slim chance at winning a third consecutive NFC West crown and earning a first-round bye if St. Louis wins at Seattle and the 49ers beat Arizona on the road. Along with a loss from the Panthers, the 49ers would claim the No.1 seed entering the playoffs, in an unlikely scenario.

After a legendary finish at their last game at Candlestick, Colin Kaepernick will lead the 49ers to Arizona for their final game of the regular season.

  • Tony Gonzalez, Unlike Falcons, Open to Trade Talks

In 2009, Tony Gonzalez was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round draft pick. At that point in his career, Gonzalez was easily the premiere tight-end in the NFL, but he had yet to experience a play-off run. Thus explains his openness to being traded to the Atlanta Falcons, a team that was on their way up with Rookie of the Year quarterback Matt Ryan and an explosive offense. In 2012, Gonzalez won the first playoff game of his career, before eventually losing in the NFC Conference Championship to the San Francisco 49ers. While Gonzalez had previously announced his intention to retire after the 2012 season, his playoff run with the Falcons and his drive to win a Super Bowl ring prompted him to return to the field in 2013.

However, after Sunday’s 27-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Gonzalez’s shot at a Super Bowl ring has essentially been eliminated: This puts us way behind the eight ball as far as the playoffs are concerned. I think our more immediate concern is winning a game against a good team. It was good that we got the win (against Tampa Bay) last week, but the Buccaneers haven’t even won a game this year,” stated Gonzalez right before boarding the team bus.

The Atlanta Falcons are currently 2-5 and in 3rd place in the NFC South, boasting the 4th worst NFC record overall. With the loss of star wide-receiver Julio Jones, things don’t look good for the Falcons. Despite the lack of success this season, Gonzalez had been adamant about sticking it out with the Falcons: “I would never go and ask [the Falcons] for a trade. And if that’s something that they wanted to do to help their franchise, that’s up to them. But it wouldn’t be coming from me. Like I said, I came back to play with these guys. I have great relationships with these guys. … These guys are friends that I’ll call for the rest of my life. Like I said, I’m not going to jump ship. I’m not saying, ‘Things are bad around here, so I’m out of here.’”

Following Sunday’s trouncing at the hands of the then 3-4 Cardinals and the rampant rumors surrounding his impending trade, however, Gonzalez’s tune changed a bit: “I totally understand it. Everybody out there needs to understand that I’m not naive to it. I see it, too. This is the last [nine] weeks of my career. And right now, things are looking … you never know. But, like I said, I love my guys on this team too much to go ask for a trade. It would be something that would come from them where they said, ‘Hey, it makes sense because we could get something good for you and send you to a team that’s a contender.’ So I understand the thought process behind that.”

While Gonzalez may state that he would not approach the organization and ask for a trade, it certainly sounds as if there was a subliminal message in his comments Monday afternoon – Hey. Listen up, Falcons. I came back to win a Super Bowl with you all, but that obviously isn’t happening this season. Trade me to someone who has a better shot, and get another good player in return. You know I’m retiring after this year and won’t be around anymore. Might as well get some use out of me. (Or something like that. You get the gist.)

Despite Gonzalez’s openness to “listen” to any potential trade discussions, the Falcons have been rather demonstrative in their refusal to trade him: “That’s preposterous that Tony would be traded,” Falcons’s head coach Mike Smith told ESPN.com. In a Monday press-conference, Smith supported his statement even further by stating that there had been “No consideration of that at all,” concerning the trade of Tony Gonzalez. Even ESPN reporter, Adam Schefter, has reported that the Falcons will not be trading Gonzalez:

    (image)

So why the reluctance to trade Gonzalez? He has made it clear that he will be retiring after this season. While that decision will open up some salary-cap room, it does little in terms of helping the Falcons fill in some missing pieces. Why not send Gonzalez back to Kansas City, where he began his career, to helped the league’s only undefeated team cement a Super Bowl run? It seems as if the Falcons are so full of pride that they are not willing to admit defeat when it is staring them in the face. The Falcons organization should do the honorable thing and trade the future Hall of Famer to a Super Bowl contender. Honestly, who doesn’t want to see the Kansas City Chiefs be successful for once?

  • Julio Jones Injured, Out For The Season

Julio Jones suffered a season ending injury on Monday night. Jones, the star receiver for the Atlanta Falcons went down in their week 5 loss to the New York Jets, injuring his foot. The Falcons were already starting to struggle a bit in the beginning of the season, and now they will be forced to play without their star receiver, who is also one of the best receivers in the league.

The team confirmed on Wednesday that he would not be able to return this season, after a big scare on Tuesday. He will have to have surgery on his right foot, preventing him from coming back on the field until next year. A CT scan showed that he suffered a fracture in the same location where he fractured it after the 2011 NFL scouting combine, according to ESPN. Fans certainly freaked out after seeing him go down, knowing that he has been injured before, and that it could be a problem for them.

Jones currently leads the Falcons with 41 catches for 580 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately with him out, the already struggling 1-4 Falcons are going to need a lot of help if they are going to have any chance at a winning season this year. After their disappointing start to the season, this is just more bad news to add for the Falcons and they are already trailing the unbeaten Saints in the NFC South division by four games. Falcons owner Arthur Blank is very disappointed with the way things are going and told USA Today “You know, when it rains, it pours. In this case, we’re having a monsoon right now in Atlanta.”

Mike Smith, the head coach of the Falcons, said that they will look at all of their possible options for replacing him. Luckily for them, this tragic news comes just before their bye week, and will give them a bit more time before they have to make a decision. Their offense is already being forced to deal with other injuries including their running back Steven Jackson, and Roddy White, who injured his hamstring on Monday night. Michael Vick of the Eagles also injured his hamstring in their game on Sunday. It seems that with all of the injuries that have been piling up this season, the league will have to change the rules somehow or something, in order to help the health of players.

  • Falcons: $200 Million Loan Approved for New Stadium

NFL Team owners have voted to approve $200 million in NFL G-4 stadium financing that will help the Atlanta Falcons construct a brand new multi-purpose stadium.

Falcons Owner and Chairman Arthur Blank will put up most of the funding for the project, which could run upwards of $1 billion.

Blank hopes the Falcons will be in the new stadium by 2017.

Blank had this to say in a statement:

Today’s approval by the NFL team owners is an important milestone in moving the new stadium project forward. The consideration of G-4 financing for new stadiums requires thoughtful analysis on the part of the NFL Finance and Stadium Committees, including compliance requirements that protect the best interests of all owners and the league.

The NFL has supported new stadium construction through various means for decades. Our club owners understand that investments such as G-4 financing are important to the long-term strength of the league, and we thank them for their support.

We are pleased with the outcome of today’s vote, and we look forward to continued progress in designing and constructing the new multi-purpose stadium over the next four years. We, along with our City of Atlanta and State of Georgia partners, are excited to participate in a project that will benefit the city and state for many years to come.

Upon completion of the new stadium, the Georgia Dome will be torn down.

  • Kim Zolciak is Expecting Second Child with Falcons Player

Kim Zolciak and new husband Kroy Biermann are expecting their second child.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star says they are very excited, “To decide we wanted to get pregnant again and have it happen so quickly was such a blessing.”

Zolciak, who is currently four months along, has reportedly been keeping the news of her pregnancy secret until now to generate interest in the baby: “People are going to be shocked, because nobody knows.”

    (image)

Biermann and Zolciak welcomed a son, Kroy Jagger, into the world in June 2011.

The couple says that they do not know the sex of the baby and remain impartial.

“I’m so excited that KJ will have a little buddy,” Zolciak explained.

The couple were married four months after Jagger was born and wasted no time; they must have conceived the bun in the oven less than two months after they got hitched.

The new baby will be the reality TV star’s fourth child. While KJ is the first baby for Zolciak and Biermann, he is Zolciak’s third child and joined her two daughters 14-year-old Brielle and nine-year-old Ariana from a previous relationship.

Is this just another publicity stunt? This is what people said on Twitter:
