  • Stephanie Seymour: Supermodel Arrested for DUI

Supermodel Stephanie Seymour was arrested this past weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The 47-year-old Seymour reportedly backed her SUV into another vehicle near an exit ramp on I-95 in Greenwich, Connecticut. According to CBS News, Seymour refused to take a field sobriety test but police reported the common signs of a DUI – the smell of alcohol, imbalance, and bloodshot eyes.

Seymour was reported released on a $500 bond.

Stephanie Seymour, one of the biggest modeling stars of the 80s and 90s, appeared in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issues, Vogue covers, and Playboy. She’s also appeared in a handful of films and TV show.

US Weekly reports that Seymour has previously sought treatment at a rehab facility.

  • Amanda Bynes’ Parents Not Surprised by Latest Arrest

Amanda Bynes’ parents must be exhausted. For two years now the supportive couple have had to watch their daughter make headlines for a variety of negative reasons, including a DUI, bong throwing, and playing with fire.

Bynes’ latest arrest came earlier this week when the 28-year-old former actress was arrested once again for driving under the influence. Bynes had stopped in the middle of an intersection in Los Angeles early Sunday morning and then failed field sobriety tests. The actress could now be facing jail time, as she was already on probation for her first DUI incident.

None of the news this week seems to have surprised Bynes’ parents, who have stood by their daughter through her troubles. Bynes’ father, Rick Bynes, told reporters on Monday that he and his wife know little about the incident, as they haven’t heard much from their daughter in weeks. He also distanced himself from the mess, saying that Amanda “does what she wants.”

Bynes’ parents had temporary conservatorship over their daughter’s finances for over a year following an incident in which the former actress started a fire in a stranger’s driveway. That conservatorship ended on September 10.

For a while it had seemed as if Bynes had her life back on track. After the incident with the driveway fire Bynes was hospitalized and received mental health care. Early this year the former actress announced that she was attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.

Now it appears that Bynes is back on her downward spiral. In addition to the DUI arrest Bynes has been kicked out of school for her bizarre behavior.

The saga of Bynes’ breakdown began in early 2012 when the star was charged with a DUI following a hit-and-run on a police cruiser in Los Angeles. Bynes then moved to New York City, where she began wearing strange wigs and posting topless selfies to Twitter. She was arrested again in May 2013 for possession of marijuana and reckless endangerment for throwing a bong out of her Manhattan apartment window.

  • Marijuana Legalization: The Nightmare of Traveling Between States

The pros and cons of marijuana legalization have been debated for decades, but only recent have moves been made to legalize or even just decriminalize marijuana in entire states within the United States. Those states that have gone the full legalization route, even if only for medical marijuana, have been touting outright improvements in areas that opponents had claimed would deteriorate.

For example, pot opponents had said that legalizing pot would lead to increased use among teens, but the opposite has happened. They warned that traffic fatalities would spike, but they have gone down. They said that teens should develop a calloused attitude about drug use, but all that has happened is that teens no longer see pot as the demon substance they were long told. But they still have a healthy respect for substances that cause real problems.

But not all states are seeing the light about marijuana legalization. It is the right of each state to decide for itself. But when people find themselves traveling between neighboring states or on even longer interstate travels, they may run afoul of laws different from their home state.

This was the case for B.J. Patel. Patel holds a medical marijuana card, with which he can legally buy marijuana in his home state of California. But Patel was driving a Uhaul from California to Ohio when he was pulled over by police in Oklahoma. The county deputy who stopped him noticed his medical marijuana card. He asked where Patel’s marijuana was, and Patel had indeed brought some with him, since it is his medicine.

In the end, Patel was arrested and now faces felony charges in Oklahoma fr something that is perfectly legal in the state where he lives.

Another example of this disparity is the state of Idaho. Idaho is surrounded on three sides by states with more lax marijuana laws. As a result of this difference, Idaho law enforcement has seized three times more marijuana so far in 2014 as they did in all of 2011.

That is the quandary of living in the United States: easy interstate travel, but vastly different laws.

  • Ray J Gives “I Hit It First” A Whole New Meaning

Does anyone else find it kind of hilarious that while Ray J’s famous ex-girlfriend Kim Kardashian marries Kanye West, he ends up in the news during the same window of time?

We all know Ray J is still mad that as the other person in the Kardashian sex tape, he wasn’t the break-out star.

That’s because he took the time to put out a song (with a laughably incorrect title at that) to inform us of the fact.

With Kimye tying the knot in Italy, it wouldn’t have been too shocking to see an article about Ray J’s hard feelings.

Instead, Ray J made the news following a Friday night arrest.

The reality star apparently behaved like a total jackass and wound up thrown in jail.

Brandy’s younger brother supposedly grabbed a woman’s rear-end and what followed was a brief altercation.

The incident took place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

When hotel staff members asked the “I Hit It First” singer to leave, he blatantly refused.

Apparently, that’s when ALL hell broke loose.

Even the arrival of Beverly Hills police officers could not get the rowdy singer to simmer down.

Ray J was eventually taken into custody, but it sounds like there was still some fight left in the reality TV star.

As the BHPD drove Ray J to the police station, the angry 33-year-old allegedly used his feet to shatter the patrol car’s side window.

Officers also claim that while they were restraining his feet to keep him from doing any additional damage, Ray J spit in the face of one of the officers.

The morning after his night of botched debauchery, Ray J awoke to find himself in serious trouble.

He avoided a charge of sexual battery over the groping incident, but the singer may still be held accountable for everything that happened afterward.

Ray J faces charges of trespassing, vandalism, resisting arrest, and battery on a police officer.

His bail was set for $20,000.

Perhaps in the future, the sullen singer will take a minute to listen to his own advice:

As for the rest of us, let us do as Ray J says rather than as he does.

  • Clearwater Beach Shooting Wounds Two, Arrests Made

Clearwater Beach is normally a very peaceful town, but the shooting on Memorial Day shattered that sense of peace for locals and visitors alike–at least temporarliy. Two people were wounded during the shooting at the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort on Monday. Four men have been arrested and are presently facing multiple charges.

The Clearwater Beach shooting stemmed from fights between groups of people, according to Clearwater police spokeswoman Joelle Castelli. She says the first shots fired came from people in a parking garage near the resort. The second group involved was in the street near the resort.

Castelli also reported that one man was shot in the groin and another in the hand. The man shot in the hand fled the scene. Beach access was shut down for a while following the shootings. It later opened back up but only to Clearwater Beach residents. The Hyatt was closed down for some time as investigators did a room by room search for the shooters.

A Twitter post claims authorities said the shooters knew one another.

Fortunately no one was killed in this Clearwater Beach shooting. Too often these verbal or physical fights take an even more violent turn when weapons are involved. It is unknown at this point if some of the charges the four arrested men are facing include illegal possession of those firearms.

People staying at the resort for Memorial Day weekend were definitely alarmed by this Clearwater Beach shooting.

Violence always leaves an impact on people. Those expecting to enjoy a leisurely weekend at the beach will no doubt remember the Clearwater Beach shooting for the rest of their lives. Fortunately they won’t leave with the memory of someone dying as a result of it.

  • Ronald McDonald Arrested in McDonalds, and Naked

Ronald McDonald Arrested in McDonalds, and Naked

Back when McDonald’s came up with the idea of a clown mascot named Ronald McDonald, they probably never imagined any confusion would ever result. Over the years, the name became so synonymous with the mascot that few people with the surname “McDonald” dared call their children “Ronald”. Who wants to see their kid bullied all the way through school?

Apparently a few people. And some of those kids end up growing up and getting into trouble. With a name like Ronald McDonald, who can fault them much?

Taco Bell has recently made retail food hay with the name Ronald McDonald. When the fast-food taco chain started serving breakfast, they took the fight straight to the Golden Arches, launching commercials that featured real-life folks named Ronald McDonald to endorse their breakfast fare. Clever move.

We presume that none of those folks had arrest records. But some Ronald McDonalds do.

One was this fellow, Ronald McDonald II, who was arrested at a Hampton Inn in Trenton for disorderly conduct. He was totally naked when police arrested him.

Another Ronald McDonald, this one in Washington, DC was arrested on a bench warrant over an unlawful entry charge. The local Fox affiliate reported that, “No mugshot was available of McDonald – but we suspect he wore a grimace.”

But perhaps the best Ronald McDonald arrest tale came about when a man was arrested for violating a restraining order — in a McDonald’s restaurant.

The 50-year-old Englishman entered the restaurant following his wife, who had taken out a restraining order against him weeks prior. Police were called and the man was arrested.

Recently, a group of disgruntled McDonald’s employees and former employees held a mock “arrest” of a man in a Ronald McDonald costume, “charging” him with wage theft.

The employees had filed lawsuits alleging that McDonald’s managers were forcing employees to clock out during slow periods at the restaurant, but demanding that they stay on the premises and in uniform, ready to clock back in when customer flow picked back up.

McDonald’s has recently given Ronald a makeover. Maybe the new outfit will look better in mugshots.

  • Operation Angry Birds Leads to Huge Cockfighting Bust

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman this week announced a huge cockfighting bust that has led to the arrests of nine people on felony cockfighting charges. The investigation, dubbed “Operation Angry Birds,” was led by the New York Organized Crime Task Force (OCTF) in cooperation with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

According to the Attorney General’s office Authorities were able to rescue around 3,000 birds during the bust. The animals are being held at a temporary shelter established by the ASPCA.

“No animal should be forced to fight to the death for human entertainment and profit, and we are proud to play a leading role in removing and caring for these victimized birds, as well as offering expert legal assistance in this case,” said Matthew Bershadker, CEO and president of ASPCA. “This collaborative investigation, intervention and enforcement is a giant step toward our shared goal of wiping out cockfighting in America.”

The cockfighting raid took place this past weekend at three separate locations. On Saturday night/Sunday morning the OCTF, Homeland Security, and New York State Police raided a cockfighting venue located in Queens. The venue was secured with security cameras and attendees were charged for both admission and seats. Inside participants were able to purchase alcohol sold without a permit or use drugs openly while watching cock fights overseen by a paid referee.

Around 70 people at the cockfighting event were detained. Six people determined to be the owners of fighting birds have now been charged with felony prohibition of animal fighting.

During the same time period the OCTF executed a search warrant on a Brooklyn pet store named Pet NV. Authorities recovered fifty fighting birds from the pet shop’s basement. The shop’s 74-year-old owner has been charted with prohibition of animal fighting.

On Sunday State Police and local law enforcement also raided a farm in Plattekill, New York. The ASPCA recovered upwards of 3,000 birds that were being secretly kept on the property. A farm manager and a farm hand have both been arrested and charged in connection with the cockfighting operation.

  • Stradivarius Thieves Arrested, $6M Violin Recovered

A rare Stradivarius violin stolen on Jan. 27 has been recovered in Milwaukee. The instrument, crafted by Antonio Stradivari in 1715, is valued at $6 million dollars.

Three individuals, described only as a 36 year old man, a 41 year old man, and a 32 year old woman were arrested Monday. They had stolen the violin from Frank Almond, concertmaster of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, when Almond was walking to his car after performing at Luther College. According to Almond’s statement, an assailant approached him, tased him, took the instrument, and then jumped into a maroon Chrysler van.

After the arrests, the violin remained missing for a further two days until it was located in a suitcase in the attic of a Milwaukee residence. A reward of $100,000 had been offered for information leading to the instrument’s return.

One of the accused is reported to have an art theft conviction. “It appears we had a local criminal who had an interest in art theft and was smart enough to develop a plan for a robbery,” Police Chief Edward Flynn said. “Beyond that, we don’t know what his motive was.”

Flynn has also noted that, while the violin was worth a lot of money, it might have been tough for the thieves to convert it to cash: “Clearly . . . this is not something that can easily be disposed of at some future date. It’ll never be valuable for a thief. It’s only valuable for a collector. It’s only valuable to a collector if it can be played, and it can’t be played if it’s known to be stolen,” the chief said.

Stradivari (1644-1737) was an Italian luthier who produced over 1,100 instruments in his career, of which approximately 650 survive. He is best known in popular culture for his violins. This particular violin is known as the “Lipinski Stradivarius” for having been once owned by Polish violinist Karol Lipinski. It had originally been commissioned by Giuseppe Tartini, who wanted an instrument worthy of his “Devil’s Trill” sonata. The Lipinski has changed hands several times, including a sale in 1962 for $19,000. It is currently owned by an anonymous individual, but has been on loan to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra since 2008.

  • Hunter Moore, Revenge Porn King, Indicted for Email Hacking Scheme

Hunter Moore, the man who owes every bit of notoriety to peddling revenge porn, has now been arrested and charged for the methods in which he obtained it.

A Grand Jury in California has indicted Moore for, among other things, conspiracy, unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information, and aggravated identity theft.

The indictment names two defendants, Moore and Charles Evens (aka “Gary”), in a pretty basic conspiracy. The document alleges that Evens would hack into the victims email accounts, find nude images, and sell them to Moore. The Grand Jury charges that Moore knew exactly where the images came from and would even “offer defendant Evens additional money to obtain unlawfully additional nude pictures.

The main site named in the indictment is Moore’s now-defunct isanyoneup.com. It also names 7 differnet victims, ranging from December 8th, 2011 to January 29th, 2012.

Here’s Moore’s last tweet, made earlier today:

In recent months, we’ve seen a bit of a crackdown on “revenge porn” – the latest example coming from California, where Governor Jerry Brown recently signed SB 255. The law, which ultimately bans revenge porn, makes it illegal to “electronically distribute nude images of another person with the intent to cause serious emotional distress.”

Moore has been called one of, if not the, most-hated man on the internet. You can be assured that there are plenty of people celebrating this news.

You can check out the full indictment below:

  • Mary Kay Letourneau: Scandalous Ex-Teacher Arrested, Again

Mary Kay Letourneau, the schoolteacher arrested in 1997 for sleeping with her sixth grade student, is in trouble yet again.

The fifty-one-year-old was arrested Monday morning in Seattle, Wash., for “failing to appear in court for a suspended driver’s license case.”

According to Julie Murphy, the state’s spokeswoman for King County Adult and Juvenile Detention & Community Corrections, Letourneau was released on a $5,000 bond the same day.

In the late 1990s, Letourneau became one of the most controversial headliners in the news.

Her relationship with Vili Fualaau, who was 12 years old at the time, became one of the most shameful acts in the nation at that time.

At 34, Letourneau found herself attracted to her student, which led to sexual encounters. After the story made its way to court, she was convicted of raping Fualaau and served seven years in prison.

However, she and Fualaau never denied the attraction they had for one another and actually admitted to being in love.

After her release from prison in 2003, they married in 2005 and had two children.

Although there has been many other teacher-student romances or teacher-student rape cases, Letourneau’s trial remains one that will forever be remembered by many.

Letourneau next court date is scheduled for Tuesday, which she plans to attend.

  • Fountain Theft Might Get Woman Jail Time Over $2.87

An Ohio woman who says she is battling mental health issues and can’t find a job was recently spotted by a police officer while taking change from a fountain; the officer charged her with theft after finding $2.87 in change in her pockets, and now the town is rallying around the woman.

Deidre Romine says she didn’t know that taking change from a fountain was wrong and was only looking for some cash to feed herself and her pets. The story resonated with residents in Bellefontaine, who have raised more than $1,000 to help Romine and keep her from losing her apartment.

“Soon as the cop asked me what I was doing and I was afraid to tell him. The money didn’t belong to anybody so I just took it out of there,” Romine said. “I’m trying to feed myself and I’ve got four cats I’m raising and I’m trying to feed them.”

Romine has a case worker through mental health services in her county, but the community is trying to spread the word about her story so that when people hear why she was arrested, they’ll know what her motivation was.

“We want the community to know the why rather than just the headline that she got arrested and we also want to help her out,” Will Zell, who is leading an online donation drive for Romine, said.

Romine’s court date is set for November 25.

  • Listeria Arrests: Farmers Charged After Outbreak

There was a recent outbreak of Listeria in a Colorado town, resulting in the arrests of two farmers. The arrests happened on Thursday and are involved in what is being considered the deadliest outbreak of food-borne illness in our country in at least 75 years. The charges are being brought against two farmers of cantaloupe, who unknowingly grew and shipped their cantaloupe without realizing that it was contaminated.

The charges being brought on the two farmers are connected to a 2011 listeria epidemic that resulted in the deaths of 33 people and the hospitalization of 147 more. Farmer practices can be very harmful depending on what is done to the product and it is important that people are held accountable for what they do. The owners of the cantaloupe farm, Eric and Ryan Jensen, were arrested on misdemeanor charges for introducing adulterated food into interstate commerce, according to The New York Times. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has said that people living in 28 states have consumed the contaminated cantaloupe, making it more of a widespread problem than just in Colorado.

The prosecutors in the case reported that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration had concluded that there had not been a proper cleaning of the fruit before shipping it out to the public. The Jensen brothers operated their farm in southeastern Colorado, but the farm was forced to file for bankruptcy after the outbreak. These charges are unprecedented, but some people feel that the government needs to hold them accountable for the outbreak, in order to prevent it from happening again, states FOX Denver.

Documents from the court claim that they used a cleaning tool that was intended for potatoes, and never used a chlorine spray on their cantaloupe. Eric and Ryan Jensen are out on $100,000 bond. Each of them face up to six years in prison and $1.5 million in fines, if they are convicted on each of the six misdemeanors. Their trial begins in December. The families of the ones who died are fighting in this case and while it is too late to bring in their family members back, they hope that this will be a wake-up call for food manufacturers and force them to pay more attention to food-borne illnesses in the future.

  • FBI Arrests 150 In Massive Sex-Trafficking Crackdown

A massive three-day, multi-agency law enforcement operation has resulted in the arrest of 150 people on charges of sex trafficking, according to the FBI. The operation – dubbed Operation Cross Country 7 – was led by the FBI, but involved the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as well as state and local law enforcement agencies in 76 cities across America.

The operation also resulted in the rescue of 105 children between the ages of 13 and 17, as well as 129 seizures of cash, guns, vehicles, drugs, and more. The 150 pimps arrested in the sweep face a wide variety of charges on both the state and federal level, relating to the drugs, guns, and, most importantly, sex trafficking.

Ron Hosko, assistant director of the FBI Criminal Investigation Division, said that a better understanding of the child sex market and of the internet’s role in sex trafficking have a great deal to do with the increased success of this operation. Hosko said that this operation was between 30% and 40% more effective at identifying both the pimps and children involved than previous versions of Operation Cross Country.

You can see video of the press conference where Hosko announced the operation below:

  • Buju Banton’s Gun Conviction Struck Down

Buju Banton’s Gun Conviction Struck Down

In 2011, Reggae singer Buju Banton was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for cocaine charges.

Banton was convicted by a Tampa, Florida jury of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 5 kg (around 11 pounds) of cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offense. Banton’s lawyers had argued that the singer was entrapped by a federal informant. The 10-year sentence Banton received is the federal minimum for his drug crime, and an additional five years were added for the gun charge.

Last week, a federal judge threw out Banton’s gun conviction. According to the Associated Press, the turnaround was due to a finding that a juror in the 2011 trial had done independent research during the trial. The jury foreman in the trial had reportedly researched the federal Pinkerton rule, which was used to convict Benton on the gun charge. The judge who struck down the charge stated that the juror should face contempt charges for his actions.

Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, came to prominence in the 90s for albums such as Mr. Mention and Voice of Jamaica. Banton’s Before the Dawn album won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2011.

  • 7-Eleven Raids: Nine Arrested For Illegal Workers

The U.S. Attorney’s Office today unsealed two indictments charging nine 7-Eleven store owners and operators with wire fraud, steling identities, and concealing and harboring illegal immigrants.

The defendants are accused hiring “dozens” of illegal immigrants and giving them identities stolen from U.S. citizens. The illegal employees were allegedly housed in boarding houses owned by the defendants, and “substantial” portions of their wages were stolen.

“As set forth in the indictments, the defendants used 7-Eleven as a platform from which to run elaborate criminal enterprises,” said Loretta Lynch, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. “From their 7-Eleven stores, the defendants dispensed wire fraud and identity theft, along with Slurpees and hot dogs. In bedroom communities across Long Island and Virginia, the defendants not only systematically employed illegal immigrants, but concealed their crimes by raiding the cradle and the grave to steal the identities of children and even the dead. Finally, these defendants ruthlessly exploited their immigrant employees, stealing their wages and requiring them to live in unregulated boarding houses, in effect creating a modern day plantation system,”

14 7-Eleven stores in Long Island and Virginia have been seized in connection with the indictments. In addition five New York houses worth over $1.3 million have also been seized. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has stated that this was the largest criminal immigration forfeiture in its history.

The defendants were arraigned today at court houses in Islip, New York and Norfolk, Virginia. If convicted, they each face up to 20 years in prison for wire fraud and harboring illegal immigrants, as well as consecutive two-year sentences for each count of aggravated identity theft.

“The 7-11 franchises seized today will be better known for their big fraud than their Big Gulp,” said James Hayes, special agent-in charge for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. “As alleged, the franchise owners knowingly and repeatedly employed an illegal workforce and abused and exploited that workforce for more than 13 years. This charged criminal scheme had a vast detrimental effect on both the employees who were overworked and cheated out of wages, as well as the more than 25 American citizens whose lives were upended by the theft of their identities in furtherance of the scheme.”

  • Simi Teacher Malia Brooks Arrested in Student Sex Scandal

A Simi Valley elementary school teacher was arrested this week for allegedly having sex with a young student.

A KTLA report states that 32-year-old Malia Brooks was arrested Tuesday on charges of lewd acts on a child and multiple counts of sexual assault on a child under 14 years old. The victim has not been named, and is being described only as a boy in the sixth grade.

Brooks was a 6th grade teacher at Garden Grove Elementary School in Simi Valley, California. She has two children and is divorced. Brooks’ defense attorney has claimed that she suffers from an undisclosed mental illness.

Police were notified of Brooks’ alleged conduct by the Simi Valley Unified School District back in February, and have been conducting an investigation in the months since. Brooks was placed on administrative leave at that time, but resigned from her teaching position last week. School District officials have stated they are cooperating with Simi Police in the investigation.

  • Arrested 396 Times: Woman Gets Noticed By Judge

A Chicago woman who has been arrested nearly 400 times since 1978 will finally get a mental health evaluation and undergo treatment for alcohol abuse in compliance with a deal struck by a Judge.

Shermain Miles has been booked for public drunkenness, armed robbery, trespassing, and an alleged attack on Alderman James Cappleman, among other things. She has become well-known among community law enforcement members for her erratic behavior, such as shrieking from her holding cell. But after years of being passed through the system only to be released on the streets again, a judge decided to break the cycle and offer her help.

“All of us are reaching out to you and offering you, maybe for the first time in your life, a hand, OK?” Judge Peggy Chiampas said. “But you’ve got to reach out and grab all of our hands as well.”

Miles has taken the plea deal after serving time for committing her most recent crimes while on parole. As of now, she’s at Logan Correctional Center, and her case is being reviewed pending completion of the plea bargain agreement.

  • Brockovich Mug Shot Released After DUI Arrest

Erin Brockovich, who was arrested over the weekend for drunken boating, just had her mugshot released.

The environmental activist was booked after a wildlife officer spotted her trying to maneuver a boat into a dock unsuccessfully. When he approached her, he noticed she appeared to be intoxicated.

“She was not sure how to maneuver the boat into the dock,” Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Edwin Lyngar said. “It’s a simple thing if you can think clearly. But if you add alcohol and unfamiliarity of the area, it can all cause serious problems.”

Brockovich said she never left the dock and was never a danger to the other boaters, but acknowledged that it was an unwise decision.

“At no time was the boat away from the dock and there was no public safety risk,” Brockovich said. “That being said, I take drunk driving very seriously, this was clearly a big mistake, I know better and I am very sorry. After a day in the sun and with nothing to eat it appears that a couple of drinks had a greater impact than I had realized.”

  • Yearbook Prank Could Result in Felony Charge

Yearbook Prank Could Result in Felony Charge

A yearbook prank by a Missouri girl could now bring federal charges.

According to an Columbia Daily Tribune report, 17-year-old Kaitlyn Booth (pictured), a junior at Hickman High School in Columbia, Missouri, could now be facing a felony charge after changing a classmate’s name in the school yearbook. The girl allegedly changed a classmate’s last name to “masturbate” instead of Mastain. According to the Daily Tribune story, Booth could be charged with first-degree property damage and harassment.

The yearbooks had already been printed when the prank was discovered, and the school declined to reprint some 700 yearbooks at a cost of more than $41,000. Instead, stickers were printed with the student’s real name and placed into each yearbook.

The girl whose name was changed, Raigan Mastain, told the newspaper that she wasn’t friends with the arrested girl and “hardly knew her at all,” though both worked on the yearbook. Mastain stated that the girl’s action was inappropriate and disappointing, but that she was “shocked” to learn that Booth had been arrested. Mastain also stuck up for Booth, saying that she doesn’t think the prank should affect Booth for the rest of her life.
