Eric Foreman sure would have a lot to say about his longtime rival–and sister–being arrested.
Lisa Robin Kelly, who played “Laurie Foreman” on Fox’s hit “That 70’s Show“, was arrested this weekend for spousal abuse against John Michas. The actress is denying the allegations against her, however, saying on her Facebook account that Michas is just trying to get her into trouble and ruin her career.
Kelly, 42, left the popular television show during it’s third season; her character was written out to attend beauty college. She made a few more appearances in the fifth season but was permanently replaced by Christina Moore in the sixth. Kelly was arrested in 2010 on a drunk driving charge, receiving a fine and probation.
Kelly’s disheveled mug shot–provided by TMZ–has led some fans to believe drugs were involved.
At one time a young QB with a bright future (he was selected just after Peyton Manning in the 1998 draft), Leaf seemed to begin his downward spiral last year after he underwent surgery to remove a benign tumor from his brain stem–although Chargers fans think differently.
Last Friday, March 30th, Leaf was arrested for breaking into a friend’s house and stealing pain killers; a search of his truck produced the missing bottle. He posted bail, only to break into a couple’s home on Sunday to steal more. He made off with three bottles that time after telling the owners he had the wrong address and fleeing. The couple later identified him in a lineup, and police are looking at GPS information from Leaf’s truck to try and connect him to a string of other burglaries in the area.
Leaf released a statement about the arrests, saying, “I’ve made some mistakes, and have no excuses. I am using the tools I’ve learned to move forward rather than backwards, and will be open to talking about the details in the days to come. I am confident that there will be further understanding when the facts are revealed, and feel very blessed for all of the support, especially from my friends and family.”
Twitter users seem to think this won’t be the last we hear about Leaf:
The incident occurred yesterday around lunchtime when police stopped Brown for talking on his cell phone while driving. Once they got closer to the star, however, it became clear he was under the influence of a substance. They gave him a sobriety test, which he failed. Brown was later released on bail.
Houston and Brown have famously battled substance abuse for years; at one point, Brown admitted to being addicted to cocaine, crack, and alcohol and is rumored to have been involved with heroin. In 2004, he told Dateline NBC that the drug use started for him after he married Houston, because his career took a back seat not only to her rising star, but to their marriage. Many of her fans, friends and family worried that Brown, who had a reputation for being a “bad boy”, would hurt her career.
Brown has been touring with his old group New Edition for their 30th anniversary, but it is unclear just yet how the arrest will affect the scheduled performances.
Twitter users don’t have much sympathy for the singer:
You have to watch this video of a young Italian student who is harassed and subsequently arrested by London police that were claiming she was committing activity suspicious of being terrorist and riding a bicycle on the wrong side of the street. It is very obvious from the footage that the officer is merely seeking to belittle the student and take advantage of his power as an officer of the law. It’s a totally appalling display by someone who doesn’t possess the intelligence to be in the position he is in to begin with; high school bully grows up and gets a job.
Simona Bonomo, the student involved, spent five hours in a jail cell, at which time they told her she could be released if she agreed to an 80 pound fine. She left the jail and returned to the arrest site to see if she could get an account from witnesses.
Watch the video:
Soon after her arrest, Bonomo was compelled to take legal action against the officer who arrested her and the police department. She hired an attorney and filed a lawsuit. Apparently this was too much to take for the officer involved and the police department, because they chose to pay her off in a settlement rather than allowing the case to continue and be heard in the courts.
Bonomo comments on the settlement and the actions taken by the police involved:
“I am pleased with the settlement but money alone does not erase what happened and I am left with consternation that the systems in place to protect citizens from police brutality do not work,”
Hopefully this will cause the police-force to rethink their policies on arresting people who have done nothing wrong. Officials should realize that if they abuse their power it can be taken away. It’s sad to see people victimized in this fashion.
TMZ is now reporting Brand has been charged with a felony. In Louisiana, damage to property in excess of $500 dollars is considered a felony. Police are saying the damage caused by Brand totalled $700.
Prosecutors must decide to go forward with felony charges or bump them down to a misdemeanor. In the meantime, Brand has hired high profile New Orleans lawyer Robert Glass in defense.
According to sources at TMZ, Brand will claim he was provoked by the paparazzi. He will also claim that the damages were not $700, since he paid $240 to fix the window, and damage to the iPhone was minor.
If guilty, the felony charge carries a penalty of a maximum of 2 years in prison. Brand was released last Thursday on $5,000 bond.
Brand, famously, had this to say about the incident:
Brand was booked on two misdemeanor counts of simple damage to property, charges that carry a fine of $700. Brand paid a $5,000 bond and was sent on his merry way.
The warrant stemmed from an incident on Monday, when Brand took a paparazzo’s iPhone out of his hand and threw it through the window of a nearby law firm. Brand had this to say about the incident:
Paparazzo Timothy Jackson filed a police report following the episode. Brand paid for the window ($240) and Jackson got his phone back, but the police issued the criminal warrant none the less.
Brand isn’t the only celebrity to get in trouble after grabbing an iPhone out of someone’s hand. Chris Brown was involved in a similar incident, when he grabbed a Florida woman’s iPhone and drove off with it. Brown was charged with “robbery by sudden snatching.”
