  • Wedding Startup Appy Couple Has 7K on Wait List

Wedding planning app Appy Couple already has 7,000 users on its waiting list according to TechCrunch, and the platform is still in beta. Appy Couple prompts visitors to request an invite, much like Pinterest does, and subscribers can also download a free demo for iOS at the iTunes store, though the app will be available for Android and desktops as well. Below is a screen shot of the interface:

Once a user invitation is received, a bride or groom, (mostly brides likely), can begin to:

    – Upload pictures from their smartphones (with automatic facial recognition)
    – View, map and get event details (even RSVP)
    – Send messages with pictures attached
    – Socialize and eMeet the bridal party
    – Toast your health with virtual champagne
    – Make travel arrangements, see things to do, and check the weather
    – Make sure everyone has the right information to get there on time
    – Distant guests can follow along with pictures streamed on your wedding day
    – Share their opinions with you in custom polls, and more

Appy Couple was founded by Sharmeen Mitha-Sehgal, and since its beta inception 7 weeks ago, the platform has already been used in over 50 countries, bringing in roughly 1,000 new users a week. Below is a clip of Appy Couple featured on the Australian version of the Today Show:

Appy Couple monetizes by selling in-app features, ranging from free looks to $200 limited edition designs. Appy Couple will also be able to pull in affiliate commissions through the booking of hotels, rental cars, etc. The app will remain in its beta phase while all the kinks in the platform are worked out while hosting an increasingly larger number of invitees.
