  • Katie Holmes Lives Life of No Regrets

Katie Holmes was a member of the Church of Scientology when she was married to Tom Cruise. And then there was that marriage to the guy who jumped on Oprah Winfrey’s couch and made an absolute ass out of himself.

These days, however, Katie Holmes says she has no regrets, and that she’s learned something out of just about every situation she’s ever experienced.

During a recent interview for Miami’s Ocean Drive, Holmes talks about her life, including her divorce from Tom Cruise and being the mom of nine-year-old Suri Cruise.

“I don’t regret anything that I’ve done,” the 36-year-old actress says. “I’ve learned from everything, and everything sort of leads you to the next place. I just keep going.”

“I have a very normal life, and I happen to work in an industry that is abnormal. Daily life, I take a train and cab; it’s just about getting from here to there, and I don’t care how I do it. I have to get there,” she adds.

“I don’t shy away from risks,” Katie Holmes says. “I’m just interested in a lot of different things. I don’t even think of it as a risk; I think of it as something exciting and new.”

Not shying away from risks has led Katie Holmes on a path that is about to bridge the gap between actor and director. She is set to both star in and direct an adaptation of author Annie Weatherwax’s novel, All We Had.

“As I’ve grown up, I think that the harder you work the more successful you are,” she says. “From what I have seen, the people at the top, they’re just constantly working and constantly surrounding themselves with other successful, like-minded creative people.”

Hard work is a trait Katie Holmes hopes to instill in daughter Suri.

“[Motherhood] changes you completely in such amazing ways, and I think that you become who you were meant to be,” she adds. “Being a parent also is a source of inspiration to just work really hard. You want to set an example–and, you know, [your kids] are what drives you.”

Katie Holmes has singlehandedly raised Suri for the past two-plus years. It has been that long since Tom Cruise has seen his daughter.

Cruise will one day regret that move, as Katie Holmes continues on in a life with no regrets.

  • Katie Holmes Barely Recognizable As She Stars In and Directs ‘All We Had’

Katie Holmes will make her directorial debut and star in a film based on a book by author Annie Weatherwax. All We Had is about single mom Rita Carmichael and her 13-year-old daughter Ruthie. The adaptation is written by Josh Boone, who directed The Fault in Our Stars.

Early glimpses at filming in New York City will find fans barely recognizing Katie Holmes. Dressed in a short, skin-tight acid washed denim dress, Katie Holmes as Rita is rough around the edges. Daughter Ruthie, for whom Rita barely manages to provide the bare necessities, is anything but naive, and is played by Lovie Findlay.

Producer Jane Rosenthal talked about Katie Holmes both directing the film and playing the leading role when word of its production was first announced back in 2014.

“Katie has such a clear vision for the book’s irreverent, original mother-daughter relationship. Her passion for the material, along with Josh Boone’s ability to tell stories grounded in the comedy and drama of every day, will truly bring these characters to life,” Rosenthal said.

The synopsis of All We Had (the book) reads as follows.

For thirteen-year-old Ruthie Carmichael and her mother, Rita, life has never been stable. Though Rita works more than one job, the pair teeters on the edge of poverty.

In their battered Ford Escort, they head east in search of a better life. When money runs out and their car breaks down, they find themselves stranded in a small town called Fat River where Rita finally lands a steady job waitressing at Tiny’s, the local diner. With enough money to pay their bills, they rent a house and make their own family: tender-hearted Mel, the owner of the diner; the aging owners of the local hardware store whose livelihoods are dwindling; and Peter Pam, the transgender waitress who becomes Ruthie’s closest friend.

Into this unlikely utopia comes a smooth-talking mortgage broker who entices Rita with a subprime loan. Almost as soon as Rita buys a house their fortunes change. Faced once again with the prospect of homelessness, Rita reverts to survival mode, and the price she pays to keep them out of poverty changes their lives forever.

Katie Holmes is busy with both acting and directing All We Had in New York–where she conveniently lives with daughter Suri Cruise–her daughter with ex-husband Tom Cruise. This no doubt makes it much easier for Holmes to take on the dual roles.

No release date has yet been announced for the film. The first photos of Katie Holmes in her latest role have just hit the media, and should fuel some talk about the upcoming film.

  • Katie Holmes Talks ‘Dawson’s Creek,’ ‘All We Had’

Katie Holmes spoke with Elle Canada recently, and shared how she never moved past playing Joey Potter on the hit show Dawson’s Creek.

“I don’t know if I have moved past it, but I don’t really care,” she says candidly. “I had a ball doing it, and it’s really nice to be a part of something that did affect people.”

In addition to launching Katie Holmes’ career, Dawson’s Creek launched the careers of some of her co-stars as well. James Van Der Beek, Michelle Williams, and Joshua Jackson all got their big breaks on the WB show.

“It created a lot of opportunities for all of us,” Holmes said.

These days Katie Holmes is enjoying a new opportunity–one of directing a film. Her directorial debut, All We Had, is based on a novel by Annie Weatherwax. She will also star in the film, which is said to be a mother-daughter drama.

“There aren’t as many movies being made, period, so the challenge is to create projects for yourself,” she said during her Elle interview. “Sometimes offers are flying in, and sometimes they’re not.”

Would Katie Holmes consider a Dawson’s Creek reunion show if the rest of the cast members were game? Michelle Williams would love it–even though her character died.

“I would very happily do a reunion show, I don’t know what it would be,” Williams said at a Comic-Con press conference for Oz: The Great and Powerful a couple of years back. “My character died in the end, so there are certain limitations for me. It’s either I come back as a ghost or I’m shot through a lot of gauzy, hazy light as my 19-year-old self.”

CBS News reports that Katie Holmes did in fact express interest in doing a Dawson’s Creek special. How would she ever fit it in between working on All We Had and being a mom to daughter Suri Cruise?

Do you think fans would be excited if the former Mrs. Tom Cruise were to return to the small screen in a reunion episode of Dawson’s Creek? How would a grown up Joey Potter go over these days?

  • Katie Holmes To Make Directing Debut

Katie Holmes announced in July that she had optioned the book All We Had and was preparing to adapt it into a movie.

Now, that dream is getting closer to coming true for Holmes.

There were questions about whether or not she would star in her directorial debut, but we now know that she will star as the mother in the mother/daughter duo that the book is based on.

The story is one that should prove powerful for Katie Holmes once she molds it for projection on the big screen.

It is the story of a 13-year-old girl, Ruthie, and her mother, Rita (Katie Holmes), who try to start life over on the edge of poverty in an interesting small town called Fat River.

Quirky locals provide an amazing and whimsical backdrop, and Katie Holmes should have a lot of fun working them into the movie!

Josh Boone, who directed The Fault in Our Stars and wrote and directed Stuck in Love, will reportedly write the adaptation of the novel.

Jane Rosenthal, who produced About A Boy, will produce All We Had, along with Katie Holmes and Berry Welsh.

Rosenthal said, “Katie has such a clear vision for the book’s irreverent, original mother-daughter relationship. Her passion for the material, along with Josh Boone’s ability to tell stories grounded in the comedy and drama of everyday, will truly bring these characters to life.”

Katie Holmes is excited to get to work on All We Had and to collaborate with Boone and Rosenthal.

“I am very excited and honored to be collaborating with Jane and Josh on this project and look so forward to bringing Annie’s [Weatherwax] incredible characters to the screen,” she said.

Good luck to Katie Holmes on her project!

  • Katie Holmes To Produce Adaptation Of “All We Had”

Katie Holmes will be adding the title of producer to her resume soon. The former wife of Tom Cruise is continuing to find her own place in the world and we might be the lucky ones who reap the benefit.

She has reportedly optioned the film rights to the novel All We Had by artist and new author Annie Weatherwax. Katie Holmes has great talent and will make a spectacular producer!

This isn’t exactly her first time around the behind-the-scenes production block. Katie Holmes was an executive producer on the book-to-movie hit The Romantics in 2010.

She starred in The Romantics with Anna Paquin and Josh Duhamel. Although The Romantics flopped at the box office, it gave Katie Holmes the experience she will need to produce the movie for All We Had.

No news yet on whether or not Katie Holmes will also star in the All We Had adaptation.

All We Had is a novel about 13-year-old Ruthie who, along with her rough mother Rita, gets evicted from her home. The down-and-out pair seek a fresh start in a strange town called Fat River. The quirky locals are said to provide quite the backdrop for the action. This definitely sounds like an adaptation that Katie Holmes could have a lot of fun with!

All We Had isn’t all that Katie Holmes has going on right now, though. The Dawson’s Creek and Batman Begins star can be seen in The Giver, which comes out next month.

Katie Holmes is also busy filming The Woman in Gold, which will come out in 2015.

Hopefully Katie Holmes’ adaptation of All We Had will bring her more success than her acting career. She is a remarkable actress, but Batman Begins and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark certainly didn’t do her any favors.

Good luck to Katie Holmes on her new venture!
