  • Tali Lennox: Boyfriend Found Dead in Hudson River

Tali Lennox, the artist daughter of singer Annie Lennox, fell to pieces on Monday when she learned that her boyfriend, Ian Jones, was found dead in the Hudson River on Monday. It was Saturday that the couple’s kayak capsized in upstate New York. A passing boater saved Tali Lennox, but Jones was nowhere to be seen.

The county medical examiner performed an autopsy on Tali Lennox’s boyfriend on Tuesday.

“The autopsy has revealed no injuries or trauma to Mr. Jones’ body, and the findings are consistent with drowning,” Captain John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “There were no signs of criminal conduct or foul play found, and toxicology tests were performed however the results of those tests won’t be known for several weeks. The search for Mr. Jones has now officially ended, and at this time his death is considered to be an accidental drowning with no criminal charges expected.

Neither Tali Lennox nor Ian Jones wore life preservers while kayaking.

Tali Lennox was checked out at a local hospital following the capsizing and later released.

Annie Lennox’s daughter is an artist. Ian Jones was a photographer and model. How sad that she must now put the pieces of her life together without him.

It was expected that alcohol might have been a factor in this horrible accident. The toxicology portion of the autopsy will take several weeks to get back.

  • Annie Lennox: Daughter and Boyfriend in Kayaking Accident, Boyfriend Missing

Annie Lennox is no doubt grateful her daughter is alive. Tali Lennox-Fruchtmann and her boyfriend Ian Jones were involved in a terrible kayaking accident in Poughkeepsie, New York on Saturday. Sadly, Jones is still missing.

Officials have confirmed that Annie Lennox’s daughter was checked out at a local hospital and released shortly thereafter.

Lennox-Fruchtmann, who is 22, and her boyfriend, 32, were kayaking in the Hudson River near the Staatsburgh State Historic Site when they capsized at about 9:30 a.m., according to Dutchess County Sheriff’s Captain John Watterson says.

He added that alcohol and the river’s strong current may both be factors in the accident. Lennox-Fruchtmann was picked up by a passing boat.

Annie Lennox’s daughter is an artist. Jones is a photographer and model. She was on hand during the search for her boyfriend on both Saturday and Sunday. Watterson fears drowning is a very real possibility in this case.

“We’re doing everything we can to find him,” he says. “We hope to find him alive and well.”

People magazine reached out to reps for Annie Lennox, but have yet to receive a reply. She is no doubt concerned first and foremost with her daughter’s well-being and concerned about her boyfriend as well.

Anyone who may have information regarding Ian Jones or this kayaking accident is urged to contact the Dutchess County Sheriff at 845-486-3800 or 845-605-CLUE (2583), or by emailing dcsotips@gmail.com.

  • Susan Boyle Awarded Honorary Doctorate from Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

Susan Boyle, the woman who shocked judges back in 2009 on Britain’s Got Talent with her powerful vocals, was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland earlier in June. She was given the honor for ‘distinction in the field of music’ during a graduation ceremony.

The honor from the academy, which also teaches dance and drama, is a “great privilege,” Susan Boyle told the BBC.

Since becoming a household name in 2009, Susan Boyle has sold millions of albums, casting herself into a much different world than the one to which she was accustomed. Formerly quite frumpy and nervous, she has worked on her sense of style and learned to handle constantly being in front of large crowds.

Susan Boyle has been a regular visitor to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland throughout the past few years. She has worked with the school’s director of musical theater, Andrew Panton. He not only coached Boyle on her studio albums, but also directed both her U.S. and U.K. tours–both of which sold out.

Several other notable musicians have received honorary doctorates from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland over the years. In addition to Susan Boyle, singer Annie Lennox, actor and comedian Billy Connolly, actress Tilda Swinton, opera singer Dame Felicity Lott, actress Geraldine McEwan, and stage and screen actor Timothy West have received the honors, too.

It’s been a treat to see Susan Boyle come out of her shell over the years. She has worked hard both professionally and socially–she suffers from mild Asperger’s Syndrome–to overcome some awkwardness, but has achieved great success on both fronts. Her honorary doctorate is further proof of her talents.

  • Annie Lennox Hurt By “Strange Fruit” Criticism

Annie Lennox came under fire last fall after appearing on Tavis Smiley.

The thing she was slammed for was not something she said, but something she didn’t say.

Annie Lennox was harrassed on many a blog and tweet for “whitewashing” and simplifying the meaning of her cover song, “Strange Fruit”. The song was originally sung by Billie Holiday in the 1930’s and was a song against lynching of African-Americans.

In the Tavis Smiley interview last fall, Annie Lennox made reference to the song’s meaning as a song against general violence and bigotry. That’s it.

On Monday night at the Television Critics Association meeting to promote her PBS Great Performances: Annie Lennox “Nostalgia” in Concert special, Annie Lennox had her chance to explain just what happened.

“I was talking to Tavis. We were having a conversation, and I was very engaged with him,” Annie Lennox told reporters. “And I guess I was thinking at the time, he knows what I’m talking about. I wasn’t thinking about the other picture. I was thinking more about the undercurrent of violence that is inherent in the entire human race.”

She added, “So I didn’t refer to the lynchings in our interview because I already assumed, obviously, that Tavis, being an incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable man, especially of African origin, would know what I was talking about. And then somebody took issue with that, and the whole thing exploded, and it was so painful for me.”

Annie Lennox later admitted, “It was so painful — I can’t even begin to tell you — because I’m the last person that would disrespect that history. And then, one person put on a nasty blog this, and the whole thing blew out of context, and I couldn’t come back [to Tavis’ show], because if I did that, it would all get blown up again, so I had to just be quiet, and this is a phenomena of our times that we live in with Twitter and social media and everybody commenting is that it’s very tricky.”

Yes, it is tricky. With the way things are now, you can’t get away with anything! What do you think? Should Annie Lennox have been chastised for her comments on the origin of “Strange Fruit”?

Or do you think she just got caught up in the interview and the importance of the details slipped her mind?

  • Eurythmics To Perform At Beatles Tribute Jan. 27

On Monday it was announced that Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart of Eurythmics will be reunited on Jan. 27 when they perform as a duo for “The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles”. The event, which will be taped at the Los Angeles Convention Center, will come a day after the Grammy Awards.

“When it came around to booking this show, what I felt was important was to try and find those artists who not only would be able to interpret Beatles songs, but would also have an … understanding of what they meant,” said the show’s producer Ken Ehrlich in an interview.

Eurhythmics is a hugely successful pop/rock band that has sold millions of albums worldwide. One of the top hits of the group was “Sweet Dreams,” which was released in 1981. Ehrlich said that the two performers were thrilled to perform at the occasion. However, Ehrlich wouldn’t say which of the Beatles tunes the two musicians would perform. However, it’s already known that John Legend and Alicia Keys will perform “Let it Be” together while Keith Urban and John Mayer will pair up to perform “Don’t Let Me Down”

The taped event will air February 9th on CBS, 50 years after the Beatles made their U.S. debut on “The Ed Sullivan Show”. The Beatles’ appearance on the show marked a major moment in Western pop culture.

Ehrlich did not confirm whether Beatles surviving members Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr will be at the event but said more performers will be announced later.

  • Annie Lennox Marries On The River Thames

Annie Lennox has never been one to do things the traditional way, so when she decided to marry the third time around, she didn’t do it in a church…or even on land. Lennox tied the knot with Dr. Mitch Besser on a boat while traveling down the River Thames last weekend, with about 150 people in attendance.

Lennox met Besser while working with his charity foundation in Africa–mothers2mothers–which helps prevent the spread of HIV from mother to child; the problem was, he was still married at the time. But she was patient, and in the end she got her man.

Lennox was recently featured on the show “Who Do You Think You Are?”, which allowed her to track down her genealogy and learn about her ancestors, something she says was life-changing for her. Following up that experience with her wedding capped off a very good year for the singer.

Lennox posted thank-yous on her Facebook page to all the fans who sent her well-wishes, signing off as Mrs. Lennox Besser.
