Anne Hathaway Gave Up Huge Role in “Silver Linings”

Yesterday morning Hollywood heavyweight, Harvey Weinstein, dropped by Howard Stern’s radio show and discussed past film projects, actresses, and other topics. One of the questions he was asked about was finding the perfect person for a role, then losing that person for whatever reason. “Does it drive you insane,” asked Stern. ”

“It doesn’t drive me insane because I’ve always believed if we can’t get somebody established, we’ll find somebody new,” said Weinstein, speaking about last year’s “Silver Linings Playbook.” Although actress Jennifer Lawrence got the part, it was written for Anne Hathaway and Bradley Cooper wasn’t supposed to be in the film either.

“Silver Linings Playbook was originally going to be with Anne Hathaway and Mark Wahlberg,” said Weinstein. “And then Anne wasn’t doing it, and she’s marvelous, and wonderful and she was my choice. I love her.”

And why the sudden change? Creative differences, he noted. “We had Annie and then we had Mark, then whatever happened, happened. David and Anne had some creative differences. They didn’t see eye-to-eye.”

David Russell directed “Silver Linings Playbook,” which of course went on to win eight academy awards and it made actors Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper into bigger stars.

And although Hathaway went on to win an Oscar that same year for “Les Miserables,” there’s a good chance that she wouldn’t have been received as well in “Silver Linings.” Do you remember the term “Hathahaters” last year? That was the name for people who couldn’t stomach the 31-year old, because according to fans and a now popular New York Times article, some felt that Hathaway was a bit on the pretentious side, which of course always rubs people the wrong way.

Thankfully for Weinstein, he found the perfect actress for the part in Jennifer Lawrence. “How the hell are we gonna replace Annie,” he said after initially losing her. “And then this amazing creature walked in who is a brilliant actress, and so much fun, and she won an Oscar.”

  • Anne Hathaway Injured In Scary Swimming Incident

Anne Hathaway found out the hard way just how rough the waves can be in Hawaii during winter when she got caught in a riptide on Wednesday and couldn’t get out.

The “Les Miserables” actress was vacationing in Oahu with husband Adam Shulman when the waves pulled her under and she began screaming to a nearby surfer for assistance. Luckily, she was pulled out of the water just in time, but she injured her foot on a reef as she came to shore. Shulman proved to be handy with a first aid kit, however, and bandaged her right up. You can see the scary photos of the incident here.

Hawaii is beautiful year-round, but tourists have to be careful when swimming during the winter months because the surf is incredibly rough. However, whale-mating season comes in the winter as well, and the creatures can often be seen breaking the surface, which makes up for the scary waves.

Hathaway made headlines recently when she decided to leave a bag of dog poop on the windshield of a paparazzo’s car; apparently, she doesn’t take too kindly to being followed around with a camera.

  • Anne Hathaway Makes a Statement with Poop

Anne Hathaway took out her frustration with the paparazzi by leaving a bag of her dog’s poop on the windshield of one photographer’s car.

While out walking her dog Esmerelda on Dec. 26, a photographer started following the duo. Well, the 31-year-old actress just wasn’t having it anymore.

Many a celebrity has had a run-in or two with the intrusive photographers and each seems to handle a bit differently.

So what did the Les Miserables star do to get even?

    No, no punches.

Nope, she didn’t break his camera.

After cleaning up after her pooch, she just calmly left the bright yellow bag of her doggie’s doo on the paparazzo’s windshield.

    Got to like her creativity!!

Here’s a clip of her talking about her feelings about the paparazzi.

  • Anne Hathaway Gets Even With Paparazzi, Leaves Dog Poop on Photographer’s Car

Actress Anne Hathaway definitely feels some type of way about the paparazzi.

While it’s no secret that most celebrities despise nosy, over-aggressive paparazzi snapping pictures all the time, it’s quite obvious her level of frustration has soared to an unprecedented level.

It’s so bad, she’s decided to take action. On Thursday, Dec. 26, the Les Miserables actress was spotted taking her dog Esmerelda for an after-Christmas walk.

Of course, it was the paparazzi who spotted her, and proceeded to follow her.

Well, it must have just been one of those days because the intrusiveness really grated on her nerves.

Several media outlets report that she made her sentiments known when she scooped up her dog’s feces, bagged it, and placed it on the photographer’s car!

The Huffington Post even posted pictures of Hathaway actually committing the shameless act. The publication shared the shocking news and pictures on Twitter.

The first image shows a visibly irritable Hathaway. Then, another image shows Hathaway with a yellow plastic bag that she used to pick up the dog’s feces. But, then a third image shows the same plastic bag with the dog’s feces on a silver vehicle, which most assume, belonged to the photographer.

The Huffington Post has attempted to contact Hathaway’s representative in regards to the photographer’s ‘after-Christmas’ surprise. However, no one has been available for comment as of yet.

While some may consider Hathaway’s behavior immature and tasteless, she’s definitely made it known that she won’t tolerate the irritation and violation of her privacy! In so many words, the 31-year-old actress has also made it clear in the past that she really doesn’t care what people think of her. According to OMG! UK, the Oscar award-winning actress even supported a New York Times column on how it’s “fashionable to hate her”.

  • Anne Hathaway Leaves Dog Feces on Paparazzo’s Car

Anne Hathaway decided she’d had more than enough of the paparazzi on Thursday, when she left a bag of dog feces on a paparazzo’s car. Out for a walk with her dog Esmerelda, who had just done her business, she made it quite clear she didn’t like being followed by the man with the camera.

The Les Miserables star picked up after Esmerelda as any responsible pet owner should do. She then left the bright yellow plastic bag filled with canine feces on the windshield of the paparazzo’s car. Prior to her deposit, sources say she looked angry–likely peeved from being followed.

The Huffington Post has contacted Anne Hathaway’s rep for a comment or more information about the incident. While it’s a bit uncertain how much more information there is–the dog pooped, Anne cleaned it up and plunked it on the photographer’s car–the rep has yet to respond to the call.

This is certainly one way to deal with the intrusive paparazzi. Of course Anne Hathaway could be charged with littering if she admits to leaving the excrement on the vehicle. Those little poop bags are meant to be disposed of in a much different way.

Did Anne Hathaway act appropriately by gifting the photographer with Esmerelda’s poop? Do you think there was a better way she might have used to show her disdain over being constantly pursued?

It will be interesting to learn if the paps press charges over this most unusual mode of retaliation.

  • Anne Hathaway Hosts Cancer Benefit

    Anne Hathaway Hosts Cancer Benefit

Anne Hathaway played host to a very special night in Santa Monica. This past Saturday, the Oscar winning-actress hosted the 9th Annual Pink Party benefit.

“I’m here tonight in support of Dr. Beth Karlan and the Women’s Cancer Program at Cedars-Sinai Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute, as well as all of those who in one way or another have been touched by cancer—a number I know we all agree is far too high. I’m so excited we’re all here to watch that number drop,” said Hathaway in her speech.

What was it that lead the actress to the event? She had previously mentioned on the red carpet that she became involved with the benefit after a friend of hers had battled cancer. Hathaway had asked if there was anything she could do to contribute to the organization.

The star then mentioned Dr. Karlan who helped her friend battling with cancer.

“On a personal note, Dr. Karlan helped a beloved friend of mine,” Hathaway said.

She thanked the doctor who joined her onstage and closed up by saying, “you kicked that cancer’s ass.”

  • Django Unchained, Les Miserables Lead Christmas Box Office

It may surprise people who never think to go to the movies on Christmas, but the day is one of the largest movie-going days of the year. My pet theory is that after the presents are opened and the brunch is devoured, families that don’t have much in common would much rather see a movie than sit and stare at each other silently.

This Christmas, two movies ran away with the majority of box office receipts on what was one of the biggest holiday movie days of all time. Les Misérables, the adaptation of the famous musical, scored the second-largest Christmas opening of all time, taking in $18.2 million in one day. A very different movie was right on the heels of Les Mis, with Quentin Tarantino’s bloody southern slave-era revenge tale Django Unchained taking in $15 million to become the third-largest Christmas opening.

The success of these films was never really in doubt. Last week, Samuel L. Jackson, who stars in Django, teamed up with Les Mis star Anne Hathaway to promote their flicks with a “sad off.” The video below is filled with NSFW language and some of the humor could even be considered racially insensitive. It’s perfect for bringing the message of despair home for the holidays:

  • Anne Hathaway’s Shame Over Body Image

Anne Hathaway’s Shame Over Body Image

Anne Hathaway, who famously lost weight for both “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Les Miserables”, says she still battles with body image, something she thought she would have grown out of by now.

“I still feel the stress over ‘Am I thin enough? Am I too thin? Is my body the right shape?’” she says in a recent Glamour interview. “There’s an obsessive quality to it that I thought I would’ve grown out of by now. It’s an ongoing source of shame for me.”

Of course, as with any female in the spotlight, body image can be a tricky thing. With so many people examining everything one does/wears at any given moment, it’s easy for celebrities to fall prey to the idea that they aren’t good enough, that things could use some tweaking even if millions of others would kill to have their bodies. It’s not a new problem, and unfortunately as long as gossip magazines and internet trolls exist, it’s not something that will go away anytime soon.

Actress Ashley Judd recently wrote an essay for The Daily Beast in which she took on the people who were dissecting her “puffy appearance” and accusing her of having had plastic surgery. She says she was simply showing the effects of being sick and on steroids, and was appalled at the reaction to her brief, less-than-perfect appearance.

“Who makes the fantastic leap from being sick, or gaining some weight over the winter, to a conclusion of plastic surgery?” Judd asks in her essay. “Our culture, that’s who. The insanity has to stop, because as focused on me as it appears to have been, it is about all girls and women.”

Hathaway says that the media’s critical eye still scares her and inhibits her, because she’s afraid to be herself in public.

“I know it makes me sound weak, but rather than make myself happy and wear the silly hat and say, ‘Oh, I don’t care,’ I actually really don’t feel like getting made fun of,” she said. “So I put on something boring and navy and go out and try to disappear.”

However, she also says that chopping off her hair for “Les Miserables” had a profound effect on her, because now she can’t hide behind her long strands.

“…On days when I didn’t want to deal with the world, I’d wear a hat and pull my hair around me and hide,” she said. “I can’t do that now. I have to be me all the time.”

  • Anne Hathaway Takes On Claire Danes’ Crying Face

Anne Hathaway hosted this weekend’s SNL, and though the episode has gotten mixed reviews–some called it “plodding” and a “disappointment” after the huge election week–the “Les Miserables” actress hit several high spots during the night, including taking on an emotionally unstable character from the Showtime hit “Homeland”.

Claire Danes, who found stardom–and her sad face–on the ’90s show “My So-Called Life”, often displays her famous crying visage on her new show, a cop drama. Hathaway nailed the chin-trembling, total devastation that Danes has become famous for, earning several of the night’s laughs on the sketch comedy show.

The skit also skewered some of the other characters, such as Brody, his tiny mouth, and his teen daughter, who randomly wanders in and out of CIA headquarters.

  • Amanda Seyfried, Russell Crowe In “Les Mis” Posters

Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, and Hugh Jackman are a few of the stars showing their lovely bare faces on various posters for the movie adaptation of “Les Miserables“, which opens Christmas Day.

Seyfried plays Cosette, while Hathaway inhabits the role of Fantine; Hathaway sings “I Dreamed A Dream” in the trailer, which gives us a first look at just how much of a tearjerker the film will be.

  • David Letterman: Did He Really Spoil the Ending to The Dark Knight Rises?

David Letterman may have dropped a bombshell about director Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated motion picture “The Dark Knight Rises”, which opens in North American theaters on July 20th. If you don’t want to know anything about the movie, then I would advise you to skip out on this article right now. Seriously. Right now. Because there’s going to be some discussion about Letterman’s comment, which may or may not ruin the flick’s finale.

I’m warning you one more time. Back off now.

Still with me? Okay. Well, Anne Hathaway made an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman to promote the aforementioned superhero endeavor. During their discussion, Letterman reveals that he’s seen the movie, and that, at the end of the film, “Batman is dead”. The proclamation is immediately followed by a hushed silence, as if everyone is waiting for the punchline. Except there’s no punchline. Hathaway, looking mildly horrified, breaks this awkward pause with “Daaaaave”, which loosens up the audience a bit.

However, the question remains: Was Letterman telling the truth? Did he let it slip that Batman does, in fact, shuffle off his mortal coil by the end of “The Dark Knight Rises”? Or was Dave just being Dave? I always had a feeling Nolan would take the series in this direction, particularly after the announcement that he was delivering a trilogy. Knowing this information isn’t going to ruin my enjoyment of the flick in the least, as I’ve always felt such an event would be a fitting end to the Nolan’s run. Still, I can understand why it has ruffled so many feathers.

If you’re curious to see Letterman’s revelation for yourself, take a peek at the video embedded below. It’s awkward and uncomfortable, but it’s interesting nonetheless. After that, check out some very angry Twitter responses to clip.

  • The New Dark Knight Rises Trailer Focuses on Catwoman

We are only a few short weeks until The Dark Knight Rises debuts on the big screens, and the anticipation for Christopher Nolan’s return to the Batman universe is building quite rapidly. To further the mouthwatering, Warner Brothers has been releasing shorter TV Spots instead of extended trailers, as to keep the spoilage to a minimum. In their latest 30-second snippet, the footage focuses on Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman, which is never a bad thing.

The new trailer makes great use of her footage, while giving us an additional glimpse at the relationship between Batman and Catwoman. Teamwork for the win, apparently:

Over at /Film, they ran across a list of actors attending the European premiere, and at least one of the names listed is taken as confirmation that a certain character will be returning in TDKR. The names of the attendees:

Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine

You may have noticed Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy, both of which stared in Batman Begins, the first journey in Nolan’s Batman trilogy. According to rumors, one of those two will be in the third installment, and it’s not Liam Neeson, which means, if accurate, we can expect to see another appearance from Murphy’s Scarecrow, something I find quite acceptable.

Another thing that’s acceptable? Anne Hathaway in Catwoman gear:

  • Anne Hathaway’s Vegan Engagement Party

    Anne Hathaway’s Vegan Engagement Party

Anne Hathaway and her fiance, Adam Shulman, are set to be married next year but decided to celebrate their engagement in advance. Their engagement party was held at a bookstore in New York City in February.

According to US Weekly, “Hathaway opted for unexpected details, like serving vegan fare and tucking her favorite flowers, ranunculus and anemones, inside bird-shaped vases.”

Shulman did not cheap out on the beauty; he asked Hathaway to marry him with a six-carat, $150,000 ring.

If you haven’t already heard, Hathaway is the new Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises.”
