  • Alicia Vikander to Receive Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Rising Star Award

Alicia Vikander will be honored in January with an award at The Palm Springs International Film Festival. One of the stars of The Danish Girl, Vikander will receive the festival’s Rising Star Award.

Festival chairman Harold Matzner spoke of Alicia Vikander when making the announcement.

“In The Danish Girl, Alicia Vikander delivers a superb performance as Gerda Wegener, the wife of transgender pioneer Lili Elbe,” he said. “She projects so much love and pain as she goes on a journey with Lili during an era when there was no precedent for it. Gerda’s own transformation as a character speaks to the story’s themes of courage and self-acceptance.”

Past recipients of the Rising Star Award include Jessica Biel, Dakota Fanning, Emile Hirsch, Bryce Dallas Howard, Terrence Howard, Anna Kendrick, Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson. Howard, Kendrick, and Lawrence went on to receive Academy Award nominations during the same years they received this prestigious award. Might that mean Alicia Vikander is a shoe-in for an Oscar?

It was just days ago that Alicia Vikander was honored for her role in the film Ex Machina. She won Best Supporting Actress at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Ex Machina took Best British Independent Film at the British Independent Film Awards.

Alicia Vikander is someone the film world will no doubt see a lot of in the coming years. The Danish Girl will likely be her biggest claim to fame–at least so far.

  • Anna Kendrick Live-Tweeted “The Wiz Live,” Fans Got Two Times the Entertainment

Anna Kendrick live-Tweeted last week’s airing of The Wiz Live, providing fans with double their entertainment for the evening.

Not only is the Pitch Perfect 2 star hilarious, she has a background in musical theater, so The Wiz Live was right up her alley.

Even days after The Wiz Live aired, fans are still dishing about–and re-reading–Anna Kendrick’s Tweets.

Anna Kendrick’s Barbie comment received thousands of retweets and comments.

And then she said this about Queen Latifah’s hair.

Anna Kendrick clearly related very strongly to this performance.

Kendrick’s self-deprecating manner no doubt kept fans in stitches throughout The Wiz Live.

If you recorded The Wiz Live last week, and haven’t yet watched it, you really must re-read Anna Kendrick’s Tweets at the same time. The running commentary will add a sense of hilarity to the amazing remake of this Broadway classic.

  • Anna Kendrick Deadpans Hilarious AMAs Acceptance Speech, Talks Threesomes and Dead Hookers

Anna Kendrick deadpanned an hilarious acceptance speech at the AMAs on Sunday, as she and the Pitch Perfect 2 cast won the award for top soundtrack. The actress even managed to talk about dead hookers and threesomes as she and her cast mates accepted their award.

“Holy crap–this is great,” she said. “Thank you so much. We were sent here to represent the film and the soundtrack but obviously we hardly did anything at all we just showed up.”

Anna Kendrick’s trademark humor quickly came to life as she thanked the “unsung heroes of the soundtrack.”

“You’re a ruthless little group of sociopaths,” she added, “and I admire that about you.”

Referencing a three-way, towing out compliments and insults, Anna Kendrick closed by mentioning a hooker she buried and a $37 debt.

Pitch Perfect 2 was up against the Empire soundtrack, as well as the soundtrack for Fifty Shades of Gray.

In addition to Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, and Chrissie Fit accepted the award on behalf of the entire Pitch Perfect 2 cast.

Did you catch the American Music Awards on Sunday evening? What did you think of Anna Kendrick’s acceptance speech?

  • Anne Hathaway: Anna Kendrick Pokes Fun At Oscar Acceptance Quip

Anne Hathaway was far from the street when Anna Kendrick participated in a recent episode of Billy on the Street.

Billy Eichner found a gem in Anna Kendrick when she was invited to play a little game called “What Does Katy Perry’s Cat Care About?”

The loud and…um, active…Billy Eichner pummeled Anna Kendrick with several questions on a 60-second timer about Katy Perry’s cat, Kitty Purry.

The questions had nothing to do with Anne Hathaway, whom Kitty Purry would clearly not care about.

Questions were, for example, does she care about Katy Perry’s breakup with John Mayer?

    That would be a no.

It's come to this. Blanket cape. FASHION WEEK.

A photo posted by Anna Kendrick (@annakendrick47) on

Does she care about Katy Perry’s performance at the Super Bowl?

    No again.

Then he led into questions like, does she care about wet cat food?

    Um, yes.

    Dry cat food? Yes, absolutely.

Noises and whether they’re worth investigating? You get the point.

However, the most notable moment of the game came at the end when Anna Kendrick won the game and took home the prize: Lupita Nyong’o’s apostrophe.

Anna Kendrick after making sure she doesn’t need it anymore, said, “It came true.”

That quip was a reference to Anne Hathaway’s 2013 Oscar win for Les Miserables. She began with the exact same phrase.

Billy Eichner got it and loved it.

What did you think about Anna Kendrick’s passive insult to Anne Hathaway?

  • Salma Hayek, Gwyneth Paltrow and Oprah Winfrey To Be Honored In ”Power of Women’ Event

Salma Hayek, Gwyneth Paltrow and Oprah Winfrey are set to be honored at the upcoming Variety Power Of Women Event, which celebrates the entertainment industry’s most inspiring and charitable females.

Actress Anna Kendrick and YouTube boss Susan Wojcicki will also be among the honorees at the ceremony set for Oct. 9 in Beverly Hills.

“The women we are honouring this year are the perfect embodiment of the Power of Women initiative,” said Variety publisher Michelle Sobrino-Stearns.

“We salute Salma Hayek Pinault, Anna Kendrick, Gwyneth Paltrow, Oprah Winfrey and YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki for their incredible philanthropic work and their personal commitment to fostering change.”

According to Variety, Hayek, 49, is being recognised for co-founding women’s rights initiative Chime for Change.

Paltrow, 42, will be honored for her work with food charity LA Kitchen and Kendrick, 30, for her support of the youth suicide prevention group, The Trevor Project.

Winfrey, 61, is known for nurturing girls at her South African school, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation.

Finally, Wojcicki will be recognized for her work with literacy and equal rights group Room to Read.

  • Anna Kendrick To Team Up With Justin Timberlake For New Project

Anna Kendrick will reportedly team up with pop superstar Justin Timberlake for an upcoming Dreamworks musical.

The Pitch Perfect star has been signed on to Trolls for a while now after being cast as Princess Poppy; Timberlake has been confirmed to join her in the animated film, which focuses on the ever-popular Troll dolls. The film will make its premiere in November of next year.

Kendrick has been a busy bee lately, showing up in a Kate Spade commercial with none other than feminist icon Gloria Steinem. Anna told E! News that she adored the brand’s flagship store and was looking forward to seeing their portion of New York Fashion Week, including scoping out the other celebs.

“It’s too cute, I actually can’t stand it. It’s too cute. It’s actually really great when I’m at a show with someone super-famous. Like if I’m at a show with Kim Kardashian—I haven’t been at a show with Kim Kardashian—but let’s just say…yeah, I would take her picture too!” Anna Kendrick said.

Not only is Kendrick busy with her film roles and modeling gigs, she’s a talented singer who often shows off her pipes in her movies and will be publishing a book of personal essays next fall. Anna released a statement earlier this year about the book, saying she didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up about her writing skills.

“I’m excited to publish my first book, and because I get uncomfortable when people have high expectations, I’d like to use this opportunity to showcase my ineptitude, pettiness and the frequency with which I embarrass myself. And while many of my female inspirations who have become authors are incredibly well-educated and accomplished comedy writers, I’m very, very funny on Twitter, according to Buzzfeed and my mom, so I feel like this is a great idea. Quick question: are run-on sentences still frowned upon? Wait, is ending a sentence with a preposition still frowned upon? I mean, upon frowned? Dammit!”

  • Anna Kendrick Sexy in Swimsuit, Calls Hawaiian Waters Her Office

Anna Kendrick Sexy in Swimsuit, Calls Hawaiian Waters Her Office

Anna Kendrick of Pitch Perfect fame showed off a sexy look in a black studded bandeaux swimsuit as she enjoyed the warm ocean water in Hawaii.

On location for her latest film, the actress took full advantage of all the locale has to offer.

Sharing an Instagram photo with her followers–while wearing the sexy two-piece–Anna Kendrick joked about the scene being her office.

“At the office,” she captioned the photo.

Anna Kendrick’s “office” is for the upcoming film Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Also in Hawaii with Anna Kendrick are Zac Efron, Adam Devine, and Aubrey Plaza.

This film project is allowing Anna Kendrick and Zac Efron to become great friends. They apparently enjoy the same sense of humor, and love to one-up each other.

Zac Efron shared a photo of Anna Kendrick on Instagram just a few days ago–of her trying to take a picture of him.

“Caught this sneaky sneak trying to sneak a pic,” he captioned the shot.

A photo posted by Zac Efron (@zacefron) on

It sounds like in addition to enjoying some time in a sexy swimsuit, Anna Kendrick has the best of both worlds right now. With the Hawaiian waters as her “office,” and great friends like Zac Efron, Aubrey Plaza, and Adam Devine around, work and play are almost the same.

Wouldn’t you love to have Anna Kendrick’s job right now?

  • Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson Set to Star in ‘Pitch Perfect 3’

    Aca-Yay!

Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will return to reprise their roles in the Pitch Perfect movie franchise, Universal Pictures confirms.

The studio said Monday that Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will star in Pitch Perfect 3, set for release in July 2017. Elizabeth Banks and her husband, Max Handelman, will return as producers.

It is unclear whether Banks will once again take the helm as director as she did for Pitch Perfect 2, which has taken in more than $171 million domestically since it opened last month.

The original film, released in 2012, was a surprise hit that went on to earn more than $115 million worldwide.

The franchise follows the comical and crazy adventures of a competitive a capella singing group.

Both Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson took to social media Monday to celebrate the news. Anna posted a selfie with the caption “Happening #3,” while Rebel shared the good news via Twitter.

Who’s pumped to see Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson back for some Aca-licious fun?

  • Anna Kendrick Is Perfect As Indianna Jones For Red Nose Day

Indiana Jones just got a makeover courtesy of Anna Kendrick.

The Pitch Perfect 2 star donned Indy’s iconic dusty fedora and trusty whip for a video that promotes Red Nose Day.

The clip perfectly parodies the classic scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where Indy finds the knight guarding the Holy Grail. But this time around, the 700-year-old Templar Knight appears to be taken by Kendrick’s Indianna, gives her advice and tells her things like it’s “such a plain cup for such a pretty lady.”

Indianna then makes off with all the relics but also puts the Knight in his place by telling him she’s a professor of archeology and that “times have changed, man!”

The hilarious scene perfectly rips-off the classic movie while giving a sly nod to all-female reboots.

The actress will be joined by other celebrities like Dame Helen Mirren, Jimmy Fallon, Liam Neeson, One Direction and Zac Efron in America’s first ever celebration of Red Nose Day on May 21.

The event will feature comedy and musical performances, Funny or Die videos and short films that cast a light on the plight of those in need.

Fans can also look forward to performances by their favorite Game of Thrones stars. And if the teaser video filmed by Peter Dinklage is anything to go by, it will be a show stopper.

Red Nose Day is a very famous event in the United Kingdom that’s dedicated to raising money for children and young people who’re living in poverty. The day has raised more than $1 billion over the last 30 years and has now reached America’s shores.

People are encouraged to have fun while raising money for the worthy cause. Participants can organize their own fun fundraising activities or they can help by buying red noses from Walgreens and Duane Reade stores. They can also watch and donate during the 3-hour special NBC telecast.

  • Anna Kendrick: ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ Star Hilarious in ‘Indiana Jones’ Reboot for Red Nose Day

Anna Kendrick is proof positive that not every film should be rebooted with an all-female cast. Playing on the notion of the Ghostbusters reboot–to be made with an all-female cast instead of its cast of guys–the Pitch Perfect 2 star appears in a hilarious take on an all-female remake of Indiana Jones.

Don’t worry, Anna Kendrick isn’t leaving the Pitch Perfect franchise to channel a female version of Harrison Ford. The remake is a spoof, and it’s all been done for charity.

Anna Kendrick stars as ‘Indianna Jones’ in this clip for Red Nose Day.

Red Nose Day will air on NBC on Thursday, May 21st at 8:00 p.m. ET. The live show will raise money for children’s charities. You’ve no doubt seen the ads on TV, where dozens of actors and TV personalities don red noses to promote the event.

There’s quite a difference between the Anna Kendrick of the Barden Bellas and the Anna Kendrick in the famous Grail Room–don’t you think?

In addition to Anna Kendrick, the Red Nose Day broadcast on NBC will feature Christina Aguilera, Elizabeth Banks, Jack Black, Emily Blunt, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Carson Daly, Billy Eichner, Will Ferrell, Bill Gates, Melinda Gates, Jeff Goldblum, John Michael Higgins, Jennifer Hudson,John Krasinski, Matt Lauer, John Legend, Adam Levine, Laura Linney, Stephen Merchant, Nick Offerman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Blake Shelton, Martin Short, Sam Smith, and Pharrell Williams.

  • Anna Kendrick Is Too Busy Writing A Book To Be Indiana Jones

Anna Kendrick may have played “Indianna Jones” in a video for Red Nose Day, but despite her fans’ insistence, she won’t be taking on a female reboot of the classic Harrison Ford films anytime soon; not only is she busy with other film projects (according to IMDB she has seven projects coming out between now and next year), she’s also writing a book of essays.

The Pitch Perfect actress told TIME recently that she doesn’t have a plan for the book, and because she’s never written one before, she admitted she’s sort of flying by the seat of her pants.

“Obviously I’m hoping to find my own voice, but having never written anything before, I’m not really sure what to expect. But it’s going to be fun. Part of me is like, ‘Yeah! I’m writing a book… if I can.’ Is that something I can do? I’ll find out….I’ve got like notes all over my phone in different places, different apps. I got my Stickies on my Mac, and I’ve got seven different Word documents that I just keep adding stuff to. I’ve got Post-it notes everywhere, so I’m hoping that when I get the chance to sit down and look at it all together, it’ll add up to something,” Kendrick said.

Anna says she’s trying to let the stories come organically rather than force it, and although she’s expressed some doubt as to whether it will be something people will want to read, but her social media accounts say otherwise. With over 4 million followers on Twitter alone, the actress keeps her fans laughing with observations on life and self-deprecating commentary.

“If I was trying to do it like, ‘What are my thoughts on men?’ I would be like, ‘I don’t know! I don’t have thoughts on men!’ I just keep remembering stupid things that happened to me when I was younger and many, many stupid things that happened to me recently. I’m trying to write them down and see if it comes out more funny—or more tragic.”

  • Elizabeth Banks: Directing Success of ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ Has Whetted Her Appetite For More

    Elizabeth Banks wants more.

With the success of Pitch Perfect 2, her first foray as a director, Elizabeth Banks said the experience has whetted her appetite for more.

Elizabeth Banks made her directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2, which is killing it at the box office and stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Hailee Steinfeld. Banks produced the first Pitch Perfect with husband Max Handelman.

“I would love to direct more movies,” Elizabeth Banks said, according to U.K.’s Press Association.

“It’s really important that more women get involved in directing and in leadership positions in Hollywood, and I’m really excited to be providing an example for my generation of women,” said Elizabeth Banks.

Because the Hunger Games actress has been involved with Pitch Perfect from the very beginning, Elizabeth Banks says directing the sequel was a “natural” step.

“It did feel natural, just because I’ve been involved since day one. I think being a part of the first film and being on set every day, that was the best preparation for making this movie,” said Elizabeth Banks.

“I’m also an actor so I haven’t always had the time in my schedule to direct a feature, but I knew I was going to be making the time to do Pitch Perfect 2 as a producer, no matter what. It just seemed the natural progression to take on the directing duties as well.”

Elizabeth explained the direction she wanted to take with the Bellas in the sequel.

“One of my goals was to expand the world that the Bellas are in,” she said. “I wanted to improve upon everything that we’ve accomplished – as well as have the girls looking gorgeous, which they do. We were very protective of this franchise. The first time around, we were this little movie with singing and dancing, so much fun, comedy and heart. And this time we wanted to make sure we maintain that sense of fun and wicked humour – but grow in the musical numbers.”

Did you see Pitch Perfect 2? What do you think of Elizabeth Banks’ directing debut?

  • Jimmy Fallon Hosts ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ Stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson

Jimmy Fallon hosted two of the Pitch Perfect 2 cast members this week. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson both appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, promoting their film that premieres in theaters nationwide today.

On Tuesday, Anna Kendrick became the first female star to ever compete against Jimmy Fallon in an epic game of Egg Russian Roulette.

Anna Kendrick was all dressed up to promote her film, but vowed she’d mess up her look to play the gooey game.

Announcer Steve Higgins addressed both Jimmy Fallon and Anna Kendrick prior to the game.

“Here in my hand I have one dozen eggs,” Higgins said. “Eight of them have been hard-boiled, four of them are still raw, uncooked, untainted by fire. You and Anna will take turns selecting one egg at a time — uno ovum — and smash them upon the top of your head. You won’t know which eggs are raw and which are hard-boiled. Once you choose, you may not unchoose. You must smash that egg upon your head. First one to smash two raw eggs on their head loses.”

“You are actually the first woman to play this game and dare play this game,” Jimmy Fallon told her. “You called it, I was like, ‘You wanna call me out? Let’s do it, girlfriend.’”

“You know why? You know why?” Kendrick shot back, successfully smashing her second hard-boiled egg. “Cause I’ve got… eggs… It makes sense.”

Check out the sportsmanship involved in Egg Russian Roulette, and see whether Jimmy Fallon or Anna Kendrick won by watching the clip below.

The next night–Tuesday–Jimmy Fallon hosted Rebel Wilson from Pitch Perfect 2. He challenged her to his popular Whisper Challenge game.

Rebel Wilson donned her headphones and Jimmy Fallon spoke the first phrase at her–which she, of course, coudn’t hear. Wilson, however, didn’t quite manage to guess the correct phrase (“deflated balls”).

“Feel my balls?” she asked, causing Jimmy Fallon to burst into laughter. He tried again.

“I’m still getting feel my balls!” she said to Fallon, who couldn’t stop cracking up.

The Whisper Challenge is always one of Jimmy Fallon’s most hilarious games.

It was indeed a fun week watching The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon as he hosted these Pitch Perfect 2 stars. Seeing how funny both Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are will no doubt prompt even more people to catch them in theaters this weekend in their latest film.

  • Anna Kendrick and ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ Cast Receive Mixed Reviews

Anna Kendrick and the rest of the cast of Pitch Perfect 2 have received a mixed bag of reviews. The film opens in theaters nationwide today.

The Barden Bellas–the a cappella group that sang their way to movie fame in Pitch Perfect–are back for round two. Headlined by returning stars Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick, Pitch Perfect 2 is directed by Elizabeth Banks.

    So is their pitch–um, perfect?

The Los Angeles Times reports that according to most reviews, yes.

According to their reviewer Betsey Sharkey, “the comedy choir wars are more intense, more absurd and more low-brow fun than ever in Pitch Perfect 2. It is almost impossible not to be amused by the cutthroat world of competitive a cappella.”

Anna Kendrick “continues to prove her comic and singing chops,” Wilson’s schtick is “still funny–for now,” and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld “proves a very good addition to the chorus line…freshening up a fairly predictable plot,” Starkey writes.

Entertainment Weekly only gives it a B+ and reports that it “sometimes feels less like a movie than a two-hour episode of Glee ghostwritten by Amy Schumer; jokes fly like they’re being shot from T-shirt guns at a gonzo pep rally, and not all of them stick the landing.”

EW’s Leah Greenblatt adds that “the story also gives big, joyful voice to groups whose members have spent their whole lives being targeted because of who they are, be it black, gay, overweight, female, or just deeply uncool. Now–to quote Beyonce, a patron saint of ‘Pitch’ery–they run this mother.”

NPR wasn’t a fan, but had no problem with Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow in its review.

“The effortless charms of Kendrick, Wilson and top-notch bit players like Brittany Snow and Adam DeVine now play second fiddle to so much shock humor and extended celebrity cameos that a Saturday Night Live parody would feel redundant. Pitch Perfect 2 is singing a completely different tune from the 2012 original. And the notes are feeling a bit overproduced.”

Do you have plans to check out Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and the rest of the Barden Bellas in Pitch Perfect 2 this weekend?

  • Anna Kendrick Writing a Book; She Doesn’t Know About What

Anna Kendrick recently announced that she is publishing a book of essays next year. That’s one of the perks of being a celebrity: you can get a publishing offer without ever having actually written anything before.

“Obviously I’m hoping to find my own voice, but having never written anything before, I’m not really sure what to expect,” Anna Kendrick says. “But it’s going to be fun. Part of me is like, ‘Yeah! I’m writing a book… if I can.’ Is that something I can do? I’ll find out.”

Anna Kendrick says that she is leveraging modern technology to the hilt to get her book cranked out. But it is not in a very streamlined way.

“I’ve got like notes all over my phone in different places, different apps,” she said. “I got my Stickies on my Mac, and I’ve got seven different Word documents that I just keep adding stuff to. I’ve got Post-it notes everywhere, so I’m hoping that when I get the chance to sit down and look at it all together, it’ll add up to something.”

Somebody introduce that girl to Evernote.

Even the choice of topics is still very up in the air. She has no particular plan for what to write about. It sounds like she’s just writing stuff that pops into her head. And she’ll get paid for it. Because that’s how publishing works now.

“If I was trying to do it like, ‘What are my thoughts on men?’ I would be like, ‘I don’t know! I don’t have thoughts on men!’” she says. “I just keep remembering stupid things that happened to me when I was younger and many, many stupid things that happened to me recently. [I’m] trying to write them down and see if it comes out more funny—or more tragic.”

Back on the filmmaking front, Anna Kendrick recently said that she is not holding her breath about the potential success of Pitch Perfect 2.

“I’m really focused on putting this movie out and then letting the audience tell us what to do next. I’m not one to count my chickens, so I just want to see how this one does and find out if there’s an appetite for that before I even think about it,” Kendrick said. “I’ll drive myself crazy.”

Anna Kendrick says she didn’t want to just crank out a sequel for the sake of milking a franchise.

“I didn’t know if they were just going to do a sloppy seconds version of it, and that was the thing that made me nervous,” she said. “When I found out it was really going forward and it was going to be a real movie and everybody was coming back—there was no way I was going to miss out on that.”

  • Anna Kendrick: ‘Pitch Perfect’ Actress Dons a New Hat — That of Author

Anna Kendrick is ridiculously talented, there’s just no two ways around that fact.

In her latest endeavor, which shouldn’t come as a shock to her more than four million Twitter followers, Anna Kendrick is donning a new hat — that of writer.

Those who do follow her on Twitter know that Anna Kendrick is hilarious. There are few things more entertaining than cozying up to a good show like Peter Pan Live! along with Anna Kendrick. It’s hard to decide what’s more fun — her comments or the show.

Well, now Anna Kendrick is taking that talent to a new level with a book of essays due out next year.

Her fans are likely thrilled, but the Pitch Perfect 2 star says taking her writing from a 140-character piece to a complete book of essays is a bit daunting.

“Obviously I’m hoping to find my own voice, but having never written anything before, I’m not really sure what to expect,” she says of joining other comedians like Tina Fey, Mindy Kaling and others who have written books of essays. “But it’s going to be fun. Part of me is like, ‘Yeah! I’m writing a book… if I can.’ Is that something I can do? I’ll find out.”

As to her writing style, Anna Kendrick says it’s all her own.

“I’ve got like notes all over my phone in different places, different apps,” she told Time magazine. “I got my Stickies on my Mac, and I’ve got seven different Word documents that I just keep adding stuff to. I’ve got Post-it notes everywhere, so I’m hoping that when I get the chance to sit down and look at it all together, it’ll add up to something.”

Anna Kendrick said she has no set plan on what she will write, but will, instead, allow the musings come to her.

“If I was trying to do it like, ‘What are my thoughts on men?’ I would be like, ‘I don’t know! I don’t have thoughts on men!’” she said. “I just keep remembering stupid things that happened to me when I was younger and many, many stupid things that happened to me recently. [I’m] trying to write them down and see if it comes out more funny—or more tragic.”

Seriously, what can’t Anna Kendrick do?

  • Anna Kendrick Says Talented Women in Hollywood Outnumber Men

Anna Kendrick is joining the chorus of female — and male — voices out there who say that the Hollywood movie machine is not giving women their due.

“All the films nominated [for a Best Picture Oscar] this year had male leads. Like, every single one,” Anna Kendrick told Glamour Magazine. “So I’m glad that [equality’s] feeling like a bigger issue now.”

Other notable celebs who are banging the same marching drum include Patricia Arquette, Amy Schumer, and Emma Watson. Many have particularly pointed out that there is a disparity in pay for women nationwide, not just in Hollywood.

But Anna Kendrick sees this disparity rear its head in other ways in Hollywood.

“There’s [a film I’m considering] now where I have to wait for all the male roles to be cast before I can even become a part of the conversation,” she said. “Part of me gets that. [But] part of me is like, ‘What the f–k? You have to cast for females based on who’s cast as males?’”

This is not uncommon. Sometimes it is even the other way around. If a film is built from mostly female characters, those may need to be in place before the males in support roles can be nailed down. Any casting director is familiar with this. What if you were initially hoping for Matthew McConaughey in a role, and went ahead and offered his love interest part to Charlize Theron? Then McConaughey could not do the part and you cast Tom Cruise instead?

Have you seen Charlize Theron standing next to Tom Cruise?

But Anna Kendrick has another explanation.

“To me, the only explanation is that there are so many f–king talented girls, and from a business standpoint it’s easier to find women to match the men. I totally stand by the belief that there are 10 unbelievably talented women for every role.”

And she may be on to something. Any girl who has come up through a college acting program knows that the ladies outnumber the men by a ridiculous margin. Competition among women is fierce. But Anna Kendrick has a different perspective on that too.

“If anything, it bonds you because we’re all dealing with the same problem.”

Maybe Anna Kendrick sees the world from a different angle than most struggling actresses. Many of those say that they have to endure backstabbing and sabotage from these other actresses, not a bonding.

  • Anna Kendrick Admits To Being a Workaholic Out of Fear, But Has a Past That Warrants Her Fears

Anna Kendrick acknowledges that she works very hard at her craft and is compelled to work tirelessly because she fears being unemployed.

Part of that fear stems from Anna Kendrick’s childhood. She told Glamour in its June issue the her parents struggled with unemployment and the memories of those stressful times have lingered. freely admits she’s a bit of a workaholic. And that’s partly because her own parents didn’t always have steady jobs.

“As an actress, you’re perpetually about to be unemployed,” said Anna Kendrick of Pitch Perfect 2, adding that it’s harder when your past is peppered with uncertainty about having a job.

“That fear – when you have two parents who worked 9-to-5 jobs and went through periods of being unemployed – is real,” Anna Kendrick said. “Those were not welcome times in my childhood. Working 14 hours a day isn’t sustainable, but I prefer it [to doing fewer films]. I might as well be doing the thing that I wanted to do my whole life.”

Anna Kendrick’s fear of unemployment is compounded by gender inequality.

“All the films nominated [for a Best Picture Oscar] this year had male leads. Like, every single one,” said Anna Kendrick. “So I’m glad that [equality’s] feeling like a bigger issue now … There’s [a film I’m considering] now where I have to wait for all the male roles to be cast before I can even become a part of the conversation. Part of me gets that. [But] part of me is like, ‘What the f—? You have to cast for females based on who’s cast as males?’”

“To me, the only explanation is that there are so many f—ing talented girls, and from a business standpoint it’s easier to find women to match the men. I totally stand by the belief that there are 10 unbelievably talented women for every role.”

  • Anna Kendrick Not Holding Her Breath on Pitch Perfect 2

Anna Kendrick isn’t getting her hopes up.

Anna Kendrick knows that some movies become hits, while other very applaudable efforts fizzle. So while there was enough excitement over the first Pitch Perfect film to warrant doing another, she isn’t looking too far beyond that for the franchise until she sees how this one does.

“I’m really focused on putting this movie out and then letting the audience tell us what to do next. I’m not one to count my chickens, so I just want to see how this one does and find out if there’s an appetite for that before I even think about it,” Kendrick said. “I’ll drive myself crazy.”

Even the one that is in the can and headed to theaters made her a bit skittish. She didn’t want to just crank out a sequel for the sake of milking a franchise.

“I didn’t know if they were just going to do a sloppy seconds version of it, and that was the thing that made me nervous,” she said. “When I found out it was really going forward and it was going to be a real movie and everybody was coming back—there was no way I was going to miss out on that.”

Anna Kendrick sees Pitch Perfect 2 much the way her audience does, as very different from other summer blockbuster films. While it’s not all about explosions and life-threatening situations, she sees the film as daring in its own right.

“Even though the stakes are really high for these girls, the stakes in the grand scheme of things are super low,” she says. “My inspiration for the first movie, and hopefully for the second movie, was always Dodgeball. The universe of the movie is built on really low stakes, but I find that really charming! It doesn’t have to be like, the city’s going to blow up if we don’t defuse the bomb. It’s just people wanting to win.”

And when she hears that guys like Pitch Perfect too, she has a pretty brilliant response.

“It’s not like the humor excludes men,” she said. “My favorite thing on Twitter is guys being like, ‘Listen: I’m not a pussy, but Pitch Perfect is awesome.’ I’m like, ‘I didn’t think you were a pussy, sir.’ “

  • Anna Kendrick Unhappy Mae Whitman Not Cast in ‘Independence Day 2’

Anna Kendrick is very unhappy that her good friend Mae Whitman wasn’t signed to the upcoming film Independence Day 2. Whitman played the role of the president’s daughter in the first film, but didn’t get cast in the sequel. The role was given to Maika Monroe instead.

Time magazine reports that Mae Whitman wasn’t even considered for the role in the sequel. Lucy Boynton, Merritt Patterson, Gabriella Wilde, and Britt Robertson are listed as the actresses Maika Monroe beat out. There was no mention of Mae Whitman.

The Pitch Perfect star voiced her dismay via Twitter.

Mae Whitman was very appreciative of the support Anna Kendrick showed her.

It no doubt enrages both Anna Kendrick and Mae Whitman that some are saying she didn’t get cast in the Independence Day sequel because she isn’t ‘hot enough.’

Kudos to Anna Kendrick for sticking up for the Parenthood star. Even if Mae Whitman didn’t get cast in Independence Day 2, she knows her friend has her back.
