  • Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander Out of Work as TNT Axes “Rizzoli & Isles”

Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander will soon find themselves out of work as TNT announced this week they are ending their crime drama, Rizzoli & Isles. The show’s seventh season will air this summer, and that will be its last.

Angie Harmon plays the role of homicide detective Jane Rizzoli alongside Sasha Alexander’s role as medical examiner Maura Isles.

TNT has recently undergone some management revamping. New boss Kevin Reilly reportedly prefers both edgier shows, as well as those that develop episode by episode. Rizzoli & Isles features individual stories that begin and ended in each episode.

“It had a good run,” Reilly said on Thursday. “It felt like it was time.”

Angie Harmon’s initial claim to fame came during her work as a fashion model. Her first big acting job was in Law & Order.

Sasha Alexander is a Dawson’s Creek alum, on which she played the role of Gretchen Witter. She starred for the first two seasons of NCIS as Special Agent Kate Todd.

Are you a Rizzoli & Isles fan? Are you disappointed to learn that Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander have but one summer season left to star in these roles?

  • Angie Harmon Broke Character When Sasha Alexander Wore This

Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander have worked together for five seasons on Rizzoli &Isles, so it’s no surprise that they’re close. Close enough, in fact, that Harmon isn’t afraid to give unsolicited fashion advice to her co-star.

The duo have been friends long enough that they finish each other’s sentences, which left Harmon comfortable enough to call out her friend when she wore a questionable pair of shoes on set.

“We were in rehearsal and I look down in literally the middle of the scene and I’m like, ‘Listen, Maura, you, um, what are those?’ I completely came out of character when I saw her shoes. She’s like, ‘They’re Birkenstocks.’ I’m like, ‘No, those have to go. You can’t wear those ever again. I can’t even rehearse with you right now.’ But Celine just came out with these ‘Birkenstocks’ lined with fur. I went in, bought a pair — not cheap — just to play a joke on her because my favorite thing is to make her laugh. I walked into the set and said, ‘Well, hello. If you’re going to wear Birkenstocks, they need to look like these,’” Harmon said.

The show–which has just been picked up for another season by TNT–was ranked number one in basic cable shows over the summer and stars the friends as crime-fighting partners on the mean streets of Boston.

  • Sasha Alexander And Angie Harmon’s Show Gets Renewed On TNT

It’s been announced that Rizzoli and Isles has been picked up by TNT for another season. The police procedural starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander proved to be one of TNT’s more successful shows. According to TNT, the show “finished this past summer as basic cable’s No. 1 series and has ranked as one of basic cable’s Top 5 series for five consecutive years, including 2014 to date”. The sixth season of Rizzoli and Isles is slated to air next summer.

Rizzoli and Isles is just the latest show to be renewed by TNT. Last week, they announced that they will be picking up the Sean Bean vehicle Legends for a 10-episode second season. Other shows that were picked up by the network are the dramas Major Crimes, Falling Skies, The Last Ship, and Murder in the First.

Based on the work of crime novelist Tess Gerritsen, Rizzoli and Isles stars Harmon as the tough Boston police detective Jane Rizolli and Sasha Alexander as the smart medical examiner Maura Isles. Despite being polar opposites, the two offbeat friends work together to solve crime in the streets of Boston.

Rizzoli and Isles premiered in 2010, with the show starting out strong in the ratings. It immediately became one of TNT’s more well-known shows, and consistently generated good numbers for the network.

Both Harmon and Alexander have TV backgrounds, appearing as regulars in other crime shows before working together in Rizzoli and Isles. Prior to her work in Rizzoli and Isles, Harmon’s last big TV role was as a regular cast member in the long-running police drama Law and Order. Alexander on the other hand, is known for her role as Special Agent Caitlin Todd in NCIS.

One of Alexander’s earlier roles was in Dawson’s Creek as Gretchen Witter, which she played for a total of 20 episodes.

  • Sasha Alexander, Angie Harmon: Rizzoli & Isles Renewed

Sasha Alexander and Angie Harmon will be back for a new season of Rizzoli & Isles next summer. The TNT drama may have been the last of the network’s shows to get picked back up, but it scored 18 episodes nonetheless.

Even though Rizzoli & Isles was the last to get signed to an extension, that was only because of license fee and size negotiations. The show was the most watched basic cable series of summer 2014 with 7.6 million viewers. It is based on characters that were created by best-selling crime novelist Tess Gerritsen and developed for television by creator Janet Tamaro. It stars Angie Harmon as Jane Rizzoli, a street savvy Boston police detective, and Sasha Alexander as Maura Isles, an intelligent medical examiner from a privileged background. Despite the two women being being complete opposites, they share an offbeat chemistry, a true friendship and an unusual working relationship that helps them solve some pretty complex murder mysteries in Boston. Rizzoli & Isles also stars Jordan Bridges, Bruce McGill, Idara Victor, and Lorraine Bracco. Bill Haber and showrunner Jan Nash serve are the show’s executive producers.

Sasha Alexander and Angie Harmon negotiated their increased salaries for the new season of Rizzoli & Isles together, and some think that may have added to the delay in the signed renewal contract. There is some speculation that a two-year agreement may have been signed rather than just a one-year renewal.

Are you a Rizzoli & Isles fan? Are you among those who wish next summer would get here quicker so Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander could resume their roles as Jane and Maura, and entertain fans with their sleuthing once more?

  • Angie Harmon, Jason Sehorn Split: What Happened?

Angie Harmon, Jason Sehorn Split: What Happened?

Angie Harmon of Rizzoli & Isles fame and her hubby Jason Sehorn called it quits this past weekend after 13 years of marriage. What happened to cause a marriage with that longevity to fail?

A source told Us Weekly that the split was actually in the works for a while. It didn’t just happen over the weekend.

“A large part of it is when you spend five or six months a year away from your spouse, it gets really tough,” the source explains.

It seems Angie Harmon wanted to raise the couple’s three children–Finley, who is 11, Avery, who is nine, and Emery, who is five–in North Carolina. Rizzoli & Isles is filmed in Hollywood.

“In the beginning, they really missed each other,” the source says of Harmon and Sehorn, “but then they got into a groove where one person took over the main responsibilities of parenting while the other was working.”

“She didn’t want them growing up in Hollywood and being exposed to the fast-paced life,” the source added, noting that Angie Harmon firmly believed the living situation was the “greatest thing” she could do for the children.

The distance between Hollywood and North Carolina is great, and the work relegated to the former NFL player might have become too great. Jason Sehorn spent most of his time staying home and caring for the children while Angie Harmon went off to California to work.

The source is quick to point out that neither cheated on the other. In fact, neither betrayed the other in any way at all.

“They’re good, devout Christian people,” the source said. “The split wasn’t shocking to their close friends.”

It was likely clear to those close friends that Jason Sehorn was simply unhappy with the way their lives turned out.

Angie Harmon’s rep confirmed on Monday that the two were splitting up.

“For the sake of their children, they ask for respect and privacy as they navigate this time in their lives,” the rep said.

It’s sad to see a 13-year-old marriage fail. Hopefully Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn will find a workable way for both to spend time with their children, and to make this huge adjustment as painless for them as possible.

  • Angie Harmon, Jason Sehorn to Divorce After 13 Years of Marriage

Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn are splitting after 13 years of marriage.

A rep confirmed the news to People on Monday.

“For the sake of their children, they ask for respect and privacy as they navigate this time in their lives,” said the rep.

The ex-NFL star proposed in a very public, lovely and memorable way to Harmon live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 1998.

The couple married in 2001 and went on to have three daughters — Finley, 11, Avery, nine, and Emery, five.

Harmon, Sehorn and their family removed themselves from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood and set up housekeeping in Charlotte, N.C. But, it didn’t always prove to be an easy task for Harmon, traveling to and from Los Angeles to work on her TNT drama, Rizzoli and Isles, as Harmon told CBS News in February.

“I shoot six months out of the year,” said Harmon, who portrays Boston detective, Jane Rizzoli, on the series. “So I’m on the other side of the country for six months out of the year. The silver lining in this is that I’m from Texas. They get on a plane from Charlotte, I get on a plane from LA. We fly, we meet in the middle. They get to spend time with their grandparents and grow up with their cousins. It’s not the ideal situation, but it works.”

“A large part of it is when you spend five or six months a year away from your spouse, it gets really tough,” an insider told Us Magazine.

According to the insider, there was no cheating or other betrayal involved in the couple’s decision to separate.

“They’re good, devout Christian people,” the source said. “The split wasn’t shocking to their close friends.”

  • Angie Harmon & Jason Sehorn Split After 13 Years

Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn have decided to call it quits after 13 years of marriage, People magazine confirms.

“For the sake of their children, they ask for respect and privacy as they navigate this time in their lives,” the Rizzoli & Isles star’s rep told the publication exclusively.

The couple, who got engaged in 1998 while making an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and later married in 2001, have three daughters- Finley, 11, Avery, 9, and Emery, 5.

In February, Harmon explained to CBS News how hard it is to manage her time between filming Rizzoli & Isles and spending time with her family. Her family currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, and filming takes place in Los Angeles.

“I shoot six months out of the year,” Harmon said. “So I’m on the other side of the country for six months out of the year.”

“The silver lining in this is that I’m from Texas. They get on a plane from Charlotte, I get on a plane from LA. We fly, we meet in the middle.” Harmon added. “They get to spend time with their grandparents and grow up with their cousins. It’s not the ideal situation, but it works. It really really does.”

  • ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ to Mourn Death of Lee Thompson Young

Next Tuesday’s episode of Rizzoli & Isles will feature a memorial service for police Detective Barry Frost. Frost was played by actor Lee Thompson Young who died of an apparent suicide last summer. Frost’s co-workers learned he was killed in a car accident during this season’s first episode.

Sasha Alexander, who plays medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles in the show, says the memorial service was difficult for the entire cast and crew to shoot, however she hopes it will provide everyone–fans included–a means by which to both grieve and heal.

“I hope that people who knew him and adored him and loved him on the show will enjoy it and be able to move through it with us,” the actress said.

Angie Harmon also stars in Rizzoli & Isles as Detective Jane Rizzoli. Jan Nash came onboard as the new show runner in the months following Lee Thompson Young’s passing. He had the task of deciding how to proceed with this new season.

“I really do think it was very brave of TNT and Warner Bros. and Jan Nash to embark on handling it head-on,” Alexander said. “They might have been like ‘I can’t deal with this. I don’t know how to handle this,’ but they didn’t. They went for it and everyone just embraced it and I think that was really just to show our love for him.”

Alexander said Young’s absence is felt on the set.

“They have not replaced him and don’t intend to do so anytime soon,” she said. “So his seat remains empty and it’s something that we have had to look at and struggle with from day one of shooting.”

Young, who was just 29 years old, was found dead in his North Hollywood home last August.

Will you be tuning in to Rizzoli & Isles next week to say goodbye to both Detective Barry Frost as well as to Lee Thompson Young? Fans will no doubt miss them both.

  • ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ to Address Young’s Death in Season 5

The TNT crime-drama Rizzoli & Isles will address the tragic death of actor Lee Thompson Young in August in the beginning of the upcoming fifth season, according to the show’s star Angie Harmon on Wednesday.

Production on Rizzoli & Isles halted when Thompson died from an apparent suicide Aug. 19 at the age of 29.

  • ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ Will Say Goodbye To Cast Member

Last August fans of Lee Thompson Young, as well as those of Rizzoli & Isles, were shocked to hear that Young had died from an apparent suicide.

Production of Rizzoli & Isles halted for a bit after Young’s death. At the time show creator Janet Tamaro said in a statement, “Everyone at Rizzoli & Isles is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and offscreen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. • Angie Harmon, Television Actress, Shows Support For Studio Charlotte

Angie Harmon is trying to use her star power as an actress to help a local movie studio get put into development. She is a resident of Charlotte, NC, and is working to support a proposal to redevelop the Eastland Mall site into movie studios.

Recently, Harmon became a board member of Studio Charlotte Development, which is a group that is led by local movie executive Bert Hesse, and has a goal of remodeling the mall into a local movie studio.

Under the proposal, the city and county would give Studio Charlotte Development property tax rebates for a 10-year period based on new tax revenue that the project would generate. The incentives and the land would be worth about $38 million.

Studio Charlotte plans to turn the old Eastland Mall site into sound stages, a film school, restaurants and much more.

Angie Harmon is excited to be a part of the project, and wants to do what she can to help, with her popularity possibly being able to assist her case. In relation to the proposal she said “I can bring insight into the business. I begged (Studio Charlotte) to let me be a part of it.”

Harmon has been a film and television star for nearly 20 years, and is most well-known for her roles in Law and Order and Rizzoli and Isles.

She recently spoke to a handful of council members at an economic development committee meeting. The meeting was held in order to give the citizens an update on multiple projects including the Eastland Mall.

In addition to talking about the amount of jobs that the new studios would bring to the city of Charlotte, Angie Harmon praised the project when saying “It just seems like it’s a no-brainer for me. The studio is, you know, eight sound stages. That’s an amazing project — the arts magnet school that would be there.”

The actress also mentioned that she has recently turned to directing, and would be excited to bring projects to her home of Charlotte, rather than having to commute to Los Angeles throughout the year.

The executives from Studio Charlotte are expected to be back for a city council meeting on February 20th, and one major factor in bringing the project to Charlotte is the 25 percent tax incentive that is up for renewal in the legislature.

With the new Studio Charlotte set to provide plenty of new jobs for the Charlotte area, Angie Harmon is fully on board, and hopes to help the local area in which she lives.

  • Janet Tamaro to Step Down as ‘Rizzoli and Isles’ Showrunner

Janet Tamaro has announced she will step down as showrunner for crime procedural series Rizzoli and Isles. She will continue on in a consulting role for Season Five.

Tamaro developed the one-hour TNT drama based on a series of novels by Tess Gerritsen. She said she is “incredibly proud” of the work she’s done in the first four seasons of the show and is leaving it in great shape. She told Variety that she is at the top of her game creatively and wants to keep that momentum going as she branches into other projects.

News of Tamaro’s departure comes just on the heels of the production wrap of Season Four. The final four episodes of that season will air in January, 2014.

Rumors of changes have circulated in recent weeks. Production was halted following the August 19, 2013 suicide of 29 year-old cast member Lee Thompson Young.

Tamaro reveals that while Young’s death was not the reason for her departure from Rizzoli and Isles, it played a role in the decision to move on: “It was a catalyst for me to examine what I want to be doing next.”

Tamaro said she hopes to continue collaborating with Warner Horizon Television and TNT for future projects. She says they have “been a dream to work with.”

No showrunner has been chosen to replace Tamaro.

Rizzoli and Isles was recently renewed for a 15-episode fifth season. The summer finale aired September 10, and the show’s Twitter account is already talking up its January return.

The series’ titular roles are filled by Angie Harmon as homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander as forensic expert and Massachusetts state Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Maura Miles. Other cast members include Jordan Bridges, Bruce McGill, and Lorraine Bracco.
