  • Kyra Sedgwick Will Make A Return To Television

Kyra Sedgwick is making a return to the small screen. It won’t be as Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson in The Closer but as a guest-star in two episodes of the Andy Samberg action comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Sedgwick will play Madeline Wuntch, the archrival to Captain Holt, the character played by Andre Braugher. Wuntch is a Deputy Chief with a higher rank than Holt, her job is to evaluate all of the precincts. Her goal is take down Holt and the entire Nine-Nine squad.

Sedgwick starred in The Closer as Deputy Johnson for seven seasons. The TNT cable show went off the air in 2012. Johnson was in charge of the Priority Homicide Division of the LAPD and had an uncanny ability to read people in order to get confessions and help solve cases. Sedgwick’s performance as Johnson earned her a Golden Globe Award in 2007 and an Emmy Award in 2010.

The actress also has several films that are currently completed or in post production, including the Philip Roth adaptation The Humbling. The film was directed by Barry Levinson and also stars Al Pacino and Greta Gerwig.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine will return for season two on September 28. The premiere season of the comedy was a pleasant success for Fox. The show won a Golden Globe in 2014 for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and its star Andy Samberg also took home a Golden Globe for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy.

You can see Sedgwick on Brooklyn Nine-Nine in the second episode of season two. It is scheduled to air on October 5 on Fox.

  • Rashida Jones Talks Hollywood Stereotypes

Rashida Jones doesn’t think dressing like you want someone to have sex with you is cool. In fact, she sort of shuns the whole Hollywood fashion scene. In the above video clip from about a year ago, Jones talks about her foray into the film world with Celeste and Jesse Forever, as well as how much she loves working on Parks and Recreation, and what is was like being raised by her famous dad, Quincy Jones.

Jones’s childhood didn’t revolve around being a Hollywood brat, and she is proud of that upbringing. She was chubby. She even keeps a photo on her phone of what she looked like as a teenager.

“There I am. So uncomfortable, so sad, so much food… On family vacations, I used to wake up before everyone else and make a sourdough bread sandwich with butter, eggs, bacon and cheese, and then go back to bed and, like, one hour later be, ‘So what’s for breakfast?’” She laughs. “So sad.”

She makes sure to explain, however, that her childhood was a good one.

“I definitely felt different as a kid. But my parents are hippies in the right way, in that they supported anything I was interested in. So when I would talk about being interested in the law as a kid, they would be like, ‘That’s so cute! She has her own thing!’ The big twist in events is that, after college, I realized I wanted to be an actor, because that wasn’t what I had thought I wanted from my life,” she explains.

Having just left Parks and Recreation, much to the dismay of fans and the show’s cast, she is stepping back into the “behind the scenes” world as a producer, along with Celeste and Jesse Forever costar Andy Samberg and is working on developing some new shows featuring female protagonists who don’t portray that “Hollywood norm.”

“We’re trying to inundate the market with women characters and create choices based on quality and not on stereotypes,” Jones says. “I realized I was in this small space with all these super-talented women vying for one part in one movie, and it was always the shitty part in that year’s one good movie: someone’s wife, or someone’s shrew girlfriend. So that has definitely played a part in my decision to act a little less and create a little more, because I want to add more to that conversation about what it takes to be a woman.”

Just last year Rashida Jones wrote an article for Glamour magazine that shunned the stereotypical Hollywood woman and disparaged the “pornification of pop culture.” She was slammed for that, but she really doesn’t care. Glamour clearly liked it. They signed her on to write a monthly column for the magazine.

Can Rashida Jones impact the Hollywood stereotypical woman with her magazine and comedy writing? Maybe. But it likely won’t change a lot of things. Hollywood women, for some reason, want to fit a mold. For those who agree with Jones’s angle, however, at least there will be some upcoming decent TV shows to watch.

  • Andy Samberg Won A Golden Globe Yesterday, Inks Multi-Year Deal With Fox Today

Lonely Island actor-comedian Andy Samberg has definitely had a big week – or at least two big days! First, he conquers the Golden Globe Awards, then the next day he takes on Fox.

E! News reports that the former Saturday Night Live star had quite a shocking Sunday. When the Golden Globe winner was announced for ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Series,’ it appears no one was more flabbergasted than the actor himself.

Samberg, who was lauded for his work on the Fox hit comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, was almost rendered speechless.

“Oh, no! I didn’t prepare anything, it wasn’t going to happen,” Samberg said. “Who knew?!” However, he quickly recovered from his astonishment, and gave a verbal expression of gratitude.

“I just will thank everyone. Thanks to Fox and Kevin Reilly and Universal,” he said. “And the guys who came up with the show, Mike [Schur] and Dan [Goor].” Samberg then went onto acknowledge the cast and crew of the Fox series, gushing, “The cast is awesome. The crew, really good. Can’t forget them. The writers kick A! I really do love them and respect them.”

Then, last but not least, he thanked his “beautiful and incredible” wife Joanna Newsom, whom he married just months ago in September. But, his prosperous moments didn’t end there. Today, things got even better.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the 35-year-old comedian, and his Lonely Island confreres Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone reportedly inked a multi-year deal with the Fox network for a “new alternative comedy venture.”

Their new merger company will allow them to structure and develop new comedic projects that will be supported and broadcasted through streaming digital platforms like Hulu. However, the ultimate goal will be expansion to the mainstream Fox network and its subsidiaries FX and FXX.

Fox’s Chairman of Entertainment, Kevin Reilly shared his high expectations and admiration of the Lonely Island trio. “This is Fox’s third alternative development venture, and I’m ecstatic that we’re launching it with comedic geniuses The Lonely Island,” said Reilly.

“I’ve admired Akiva, Andy and Jorma’s work for many years, and they share our desire to give creators more independence and the opportunity to take risks. These guys know what it takes to break through — whether online or on air — and they are the perfect partners to help us find the next generation of comedy hits.”

  • Brooklyn Nine-Nine Surprises Everyone At The Golden Globes

If you told everyone that Brooklyn Nine-Nine was going to win multiple awards during last night’s Golden Globe ceremony, then most people probably would have told you that you were crazy.

Andy Samberg even reacted to his nomination to someone on the Red Carpet when saying “I didn’t realize I was an actor” in his usual comedic way. Whether Andy Samberg considers himself an actor or not, his show was responsible for winning two awards last night.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine collected a couple of huge surprises last night when it won for Best Television Series-Musical or Comedy and Andy Samberg received an award for the show with Best Performance By An Actor In A Television Series-Musical or Comedy.

Samberg was totally shocked at his win, and just about everyone else in the world was too. What made it even more special was the fact that another member of the SNL family was able to give him the award, Seth Myers. Andy Samberg beat out Jason Bateman, Don Cheadle, Jim Parsons and Michael J. Fox to win the award.

When he accepted the award, he was clearly not prepared for the win and said “Oh no! I didn’t prepare anything. It wasn’t gonna happen. You guys — the Globes, right? Who knew?! I guess I’ll just thank everyone.” He thanked the usual suspects, Fox, the cast and creators, and with a bit of sarcasm, he thanked his “team” as some of the other winners had done.

He then proceeded to laugh the entire time that Andy Samberg was accepting the win for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, partly because of the way that he was accepting it, and partly because of how funny it was that Brooklyn Nine-Nine even won.

There were a number of awards that went the way that everyone was expecting and some that could have gone either way, but Brooklyn Nine-Nine was definitely not predicted to win.

After premiering on Fox in September, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was the freshman nominee among powerhouse shows such as Parks and Recreation, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory and the HBO fan favorite Girls, the other nominees in the category last night. Girls won last year, and many people were predicting it to win again this year.

In a very surprising night for TV comedy, the Golden Globes have certainly given a warm welcome to Fox’s new comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and the show already has more wins than Parks and Recreation, which has been on for six seasons and is beloved by the fans.

  • Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Shine at Golden Globes

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler both shone at the Golden Globes on Sunday. The funny ladies were right in their element–making jokes and cracking up the audience–as well as viewers at home. The monologue–which they hinted at in the film clip featured above–was a full ten minutes worth of hilarity. The funniest part of the monologue was when they poked fun at the film Gravity–and it’s leading man, George Clooney.

“It’s a story of how George Clooney would rather float into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age,” Fey said.

And before the drum roll and cymbal chalked one up to the fabulous line, she was at it again–with Matthew McConaughey the recipient of the next zinger.

“For his role for Dallas Buyers Club, he lost 45 pounds, or what actresses call, being in a movie,” she said.

Former SNL alum Andy Samberg was in the audience at the Golden Globes, and prior to the show he talked on the red carpet about what could be expected from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

“They’re going to be all guns blazing,” he said, after calling the ladies “two of the funniest people” he’s ever known.

He’s certainly not far off the mark there. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have the uncanny ability of playing off of one another unlike any comediennes of this generation. SNL was lucky to have them. The Golden Globes are lucky to have them–and they’ll be back next year, too.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler rocked some amazing dresses at the Golden Globes, and they stunned fans as they walked the red carpet.

NBC is no doubt raking in some good ratings for the airing of the Golden Globes, and they have Fey and Poehler at least in part to thank for their success.

What was your favorite part of Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler’s gig at the Golden Globes?

  • Jimmy Fallon Is Set To Host Saturday Night Live, Joined By Justin Timberlake

Jimmy Fallon, who is currently the host of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, will soon be heading over to take Jay Leno’s job as the host of The Tonight Show. Before that though, he will have to the opportunity to host Saturday Night Live again.

Fallon has had a successful career as a host, landing him in a position to take over in a more favorable time slot.

Before beginning his career as a host, he was seen in several comedic films such as Fever Pitch, which launched his romantic relationship with Drew Barrymore.

Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels announced this morning that the comedic host would be hosting the show on December 21st, and he will be joined by his friend, and music sensation, Justin Timberlake.

In addition to Jimmy Fallon, Paul Rudd and John Goodman were announced as guests during the month of December.

Justin Timberlake is a celebrity icon, and while he is the musical guest, he has also hosted the show before, and is likely to do much more than simply sing a song or two. He and Fallon are good friends in real life, which should come out during the show, as they play off of each other very well.

He previously appeared on the show as a host with Andy Samberg as a cast member, and the two worked together on a very popular skit titled “D*** in a box” that later went viral, causing Timberlake to return and do even more with him. The videos all went viral, gaining tons of millions of views on YouTube.

Fallon and Timberlake are also good friends, and fans know that the chemistry is there for them to work well together. Jimmy Fallon recently had Timberlake on his show, and the two of them did a hilarious segment in which they made fun of people who talk in hash tags, which went viral once again.

How do you think they will do on the show together? Will you watch? Comments are welcome.

Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake clearly have chemistry together, and it will be fun for fans of the comedic pair to see them on Saturday Night Live together. In a show like SNL, there is no telling what they will do in order to get laughs, and with Timberlake’s inapppropriate past on the show, things could get interesting. Saturday Night Live is currently in its 39th season, and airs on Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
