  • Jessica Chastain Spanks the Material Girl

Jessica Chastain Spanks the Material Girl

Jessica Chastain was invited up on stage to dance with Madonna during her concert in Prague on Saturday. The Material Girl’s Rebel Heart Tour has thus far grossed approximately $50 million.

Shortly after she was pulled from the audience, Jessica Chastain danced to the reggae-flavored song “Unapologetic Bitch” from Madonna’s “Rebel Heart” album. After getting down to the music for a minute or so, Chastain impulsively spanked Madonna, who was crawling on her hands and knees in front of her.

Just like Taylor Swift, Madonna has been known lately for inviting A-listers up on to the stage during her concerts for an impromptu dance party. It’s likely this is planned well ahead of time.

Jessica Chastain was in Prague, where she’s filming The Zookeeper’s Wife. The film is based on the diaries of Antonina Zabinksi, in the book by Diane Ackerman.

This wasn’t Jessica Chastain’s first time meeting Madonna. Back in 2011, Madonna presented her with the Gucci Award for Women in Cinema in Venice at the Venice Film Festival.

Jessica Chastain isn’t the first A-lister Madonna has brought up on stage recently either. Katy Perry, Anderson Cooper, and Amy Schumer have all graced her stage of late.

None other than Jessica Chastain, however, can lay claim to having spanked the Material Girl.

  • Kate Steinle: Brother Wants Trump To Stop “Sensationalizing” Her Death

Kate Steinle has a brother who is unhappy with Donald Trump.

Kate Steinle is the woman who was randomly shot to death as she walked with her family on a San Francisco pier by an illegal immigrant who had already been deported several times.

Donald Trump has repeatedly used the death of Kate Steinle to prove his controversial remarks about illegal immigrants not being the best that other countries have to offer.

However, Kate Steinle’s brother, Brad, is not very happy about it.

Kate Steinle’s brother told CNN, “Donald Trump talks about Kate Steinle like he knows her. I’ve never heard a word from his campaign manager, I’ve never heard a word from him. It’s disconcerting.”

He added, “I don’t want to be affiliated with someone who doesn’t have the common courtesy to reach out and ask about Kate, and our political views and what we want.”

Trump has latched on to the case, describing Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez as one of these unsavory types that cross the border and do harm to American citizens and has slammed San Francisco for being a so-called “sanctuary city”.

Kate Steinle’s brother, when asked if he felt his sister was being “used” by Trump, said, “In a way, yes.”

He added, “Sensationalizing it is not the route we would like to go. If you’re going to use somebody’s name and you’re going to sensationalize the death of a beautiful young lady, maybe you should call and talk to the family first and see what their views are.”

Brad added that Trump’s views on immigration were “not rational” and “not common sense.”

However, it seems Brad and Kate Steinle’s parents have a different view of the incident and wish for a different outcome.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maWKeauUVM4

Kate Steinle’s mom and dad, Liz Sullivan and Jim Steinle, were on The O’Reilly Factor Monday to discuss the outcome they wish to have for the horrible death of their daughter.

Jim Steinle said, “You can’t prepare for anything like this, but it was astonishing. And it is astonishing, and we are hoping to carry this forward. We’re hoping for some good to come out of all of this.”

Jim Steinle said that he would support Bill O’Reilly’s petition for “Kate’s Law”. In honor of Kate Steinle, the law would impose a five-year federal prison sentence on illegal immigrants who are deported and then re-enter the U.S. illegally.

He said, “We’re just a little tired of the finger-pointing and just want to see some action. And if ‘Kate’s Law’ saves one person, then it’s all for good.”

What do you think about Kate Steinle’s death? Do you think the parents have the right idea about supporting “Kate’s Law”?

  • Kelly Ripa Warns Americans Against Letting LGBT Discrimination Get ‘Rebranded’

Kelly Ripa is warning Americans to not let discrimination get “rebranded.”

In an acceptance speech for her GLAAD Award for Excellence In Media in New York Saturday, Kelly Ripa said that even if the Supreme Court rules for nationwide marriage equality, “It must not end there, equality means equality across the board. We must not allow discrimination to be rebranded and to be used against people in other facets of society, including housing, employment, and education.”

On a lighter note, Kelly Ripa was introduced by her friend and CNN anchor, Anderson Cooper, and he quipped that Kelly Ripa is so real she talks about going clubbing the night before at a gay bar unabashedly.

“Even the gay ones don’t talk about that on the air,” he said, “and there’s a lot of gay morning hosts.”

In her speech, Kelly Ripa she talked about the fact that acceptance of those different from what many may consider normal is still a long way off, but said she remains optimistic.

Noting her children in the audience, she said “they are genuinely puzzled” sometimes by stories of discrimination.

In a statement, GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis noted that Kelly Ripa‘s optimism and activism is a cause for optimism.

“For over a decade, Kelly Ripa has greeted millions of viewers with messages of acceptance and inclusion,” she said. “By sharing inclusive stories with her audience and loudly voicing support for her LGBT friends and fans, Kelly is helping to drive acceptance forward.”

  • Kelly Ripa Makes Anderson Cooper Totally Blush

    Kelly Ripa went there.

Ripa and Anderson Cooper appeared on Andy Cohen’s show Watch What Happens Live, and the results were both hilarious and a bit uncomfortable to watch. Of course, we know Cooper to be the serious CNN news anchor who travels to dangerous parts of the world in order to get the story.

But the atmosphere is just a bit lighter on Cohen’s Bravo show than on a CNN broadcast. The host, who is a mutual friend of both guests, told Ripa and Cooper to stand face to face and fire questions at the other person. The goal of the game was to make their opponent feel frustrated or embarrassed.

Ripa brought out the penis question right off the bat, and it was game on. She asked Cooper, “Are you circumcised?” She also rapidly followed the penis question with asking him if he wanted to have sex and if he wanted to see her vagina. The Silver Fox never really recovered and admitted through tears of laughter, “You’re flustering me! I’m flustered.” He also added, “When she said ‘vagina,’ that’s when I had to stop. I got very nervous.”

Later on in the segment, host Andy Cohen directed a question from a caller to Cooper. The caller wanted to know a secret about Cohen. Perhaps wanting to deflect some of the embarrassment off of himself, Cooper immediately obliged, “I know a lot of secrets about Andy. I guess the one that would surprise most people is he’s a top.”

The tan host smiled but it was easy to tell that he was uncomfortable with Cooper’s declaration. An extended moment of silence followed while Cohen was attempting to get over his embarrassment, then he asked, “Why, you think people think I’m a bottom?”

    Ripa declared, “I don’t.”

“Believe me, there’s nothing wrong with that, but I’m just saying I think that would surprise people,” Cooper explained. “And I don’t know this from personal experience, but from conversations I have had…I mean, it surprised me when I heard about it.”

  • Donald Sterling Tries to Apologize, Makes It Worse

Donald Sterling has enough money to head to to wherever he wants and lie low until everyone forgets that he doesn’t like his women hanging around black men. He doesn’t need the Clippers. He could hand his wife half of everything and still have more money than Midas. But Donald Sterling doesn’t want to go out like that.

For weeks the story of Sterling’s racist comments, caught on tape by his gal-on-the-side, V. Stiviano, has been on and off the front page. His players on the Clippers want nothing to do with him. His wife is fighting to keep her share of the team. And everyone seems to agree that the guy was long known to be a racist and that this revelation should not surprise anyone.

So when Donald Sterling agreed to talk to Anderson Cooper, he had some real damage control to do. But Anderson Cooper was not going to let Sterling get off with a friendly chat and bit of reputation polishing. Cooper asked him, “So, did that recording capture the real Donald Sterling, or was he being set up?”

Sterling said, “I’m not a racist. I made a terrible, terrible mistake. And I’m here with you today to apologize and to ask for forgiveness for all the people that I have hurt. And I have hurt so many people, so many innocent people.”

But he also insisted that V. Stiviano “made me say those things.” He says Stiviano had told him, before she started the recording, that she was bringing “four gorgeous black guys to the game.” Sterling says she was trying to make him jealous. He says that his comments were in that context, not as blatant racist statements.

But it was Sterling’s comments about Magic Johnson that sent things off into Weirdville.

Sterling claims Magic Johnson called him and asked him not to talk to the press until he got back to him. He says Johnson told him everything would be fine, and that he knew Stiviano.

“But he lulled me into waiting a week,” Sterling said “Do you know what I mean? He says, ‘Don’t do anything.’ He just said: ‘Wait. Be patient. I will help you. We will — we will work it out.’”

Sterling says Johnson kept him from talking to the press and to the NBA to do damage control because Johnson “wanted me just to do nothing, so he could buy the team.”

But then came the “two steps back” part of the equation.

“Do you know what I do?” asked Sterling. “I spend millions on giving away and helping minorities. Does he do that? That’s one problem I have. Jews, when they get successful, they will help their people. And some of the African-Americans — maybe I will get in trouble again — they don’t want to help anybody.”

Magic Johnson responded, “I just feel sorry for him. I really do. It’s sad… I just wish he knew the facts when he’s talking. He’s a man who is reaching, trying to save his team. And it’s not going to happen.”

  • Howard Stern Talks Inheritance With Anderson Cooper

Howard Stern, the self-proclaimed “King of All Media,” stepped away from his normal, and sometimes outrageous, talk show routine on Sunday to speak to television personality Anderson Cooper about more serious topics.

60-year old Stern began the interview by jumping immediately into the deep end of the pool when he asked Cooper if the suicide of his brother, Carter Cooper, still shapes his life.

“Absolutely,” the 46-year old journalist said. “It forms everything. It may not be the first thing [I think of in the morning], but there’s not a day goes by that I don’t think about it.”

Carter Cooper took a fatal jump from their mother’s 14th-floor Manhattan penthouse in 1988 when he was 23 years old. Anderson was 21-years old at the time.

“I think he had this impulse that he could not contain,” Cooper told Stern. “He had woken up from a nap and was disoriented and ran to her room and said, ‘What’s going on, what’s going on?’ Then he ran to his room on the second floor and went out onto the ledge.”

With no drugs or alcohol in his system, Cooper’s family still doesn’t fully understand why it happened.

“With suicide, we like to think that it’s this clear thing, and it’s not – and that’s the horrible thing about suicide. The family members are left for their entire lives wondering why. Sometimes there isn’t any why.”

During the interview on Sunday, Cooper also announced that he doesn’t expect to get any money from his mother, railroad heiress-turned-designer Gloria Vanderbilt, who is said to be worth $200 million.

“Who has inherited a lot of money that has gone on to do things in their own life?” Cooper asked. “From the time I was growing up, if I felt that there was some pot of gold waiting for me, I don’t know that I would’ve been so motivated.”

Currently Cooper brings in $11 million a year through his contact with The Cable News Network (CNN). “I’m doing fine on my own, I don’t need any [money],” he said.

In fact, Cooper added that he never really paid attention to his privileged upbringing, which was due in part to his grandfather, Wyatt Emory Cooper.

“My dad grew up really poor in Mississippi. … I paid attention to that because I thought that’s a healthier thing to pay attention to than like some statue of a great-great-great-grandfather who has no connection to my life.”

Cooper also spoke to Stern in the interview about CNN and Fox ratings, his career as a child model, and his boyfriend of 5 years, Benjamin Maisani.

  • Anderson Cooper Will Not Receive An Inheritance

CNN News anchor Anderson Cooper, 46, comes from one of the wealthiest families in American history … the Vanderbilt’s.

However, that does not mean that he has a huge inheritance in store. Actually, Cooper revealed that his mother Gloria Vanderbilt has informed him that there was no trust fund.

“My mom’s made clear to me that there’s no trust fund,” Cooper told Howard Stern. “There’s none of that.” Vanderbilt was the recipient of a large inheritance, but Cooper said that she made most of her money working. “She made more money on her own life than she ever … inherited,” he said. “We believe in working.”

90-year-old designer Vanderbilt is reportedly worth a whopping $200 million, but doesn’t plan on leaving it to her son. Cooper claims that it doesn’t matter to him is he receives any money from her, and considers an inheritance a curse. “I don’t believe in inheriting money,” Cooper said. “I think it’s an initiative sucker. I think it’s a curse.”

Cooper has made a name for himself in the broadcast industry and is said to make $11 million per year. Known as the “Silver Fox’, Cooper said that he never expected anyone to give him anything, and that made him work hard to get to where he is now. “I’m doing fine on my own, I don’t need any [money].”

“Who has inherited a lot of money that has gone on to do things in their own life?”, he asked. “From the time I was growing up, if I felt that there was some pot of gold waiting for me, I don’t know that I would’ve been so motivated.”

  • Gloria Vanderbilt: Anderson Cooper Won’t Get Inheritance From Family Fortune

Journalist Anderson Cooper revealed that he won’t be receiving an inheritance from his mother, American socialite Gloria Vanderbilt. Cooper comes from a family who made millions in shipping and railroad structures.

According to the CNN news anchor, his mother made it clear that there is no inheritance. He even states that he doesn’t believe in it, calling it a curse and an “initiative sucker.”

He went on to question if those who inherited a lot of money accomplished things on their own. Personally, he wonders if he would have been motivated if he knew a “pot of gold” was waiting for him in the future.

Cooper calls his mother the coolest person he knows, remaining grateful that she gave him good work ethics. He says that he would love to follow her footsteps if ever he becomes a father.

Gloria Vanderbilt became an heiress when her father died when she was 18 months old. She was called the “poor little rich girl” because she was involved in a notorious custody trial between her mother Gloria Morgan and her father’s sister, Gertrude Whitney Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt’s aunt wanted custody of her because she felt Morgan was an unfit mother and led a “raucous lifestyle.” The aunt won the trial and little Vanderbilt grew up with her. As an adult, she popularized the blue jean when she ventured into business.

Today, Vanderbilt is worth over $200 million, and Cooper says his mother earned most of her money on her own. Cooper is also self-made, earning $11 million a year as one of CNN’s main anchors.

He also said that he‘d raise his children with a sense of responsibility, encouraging them to start working early. He said he might leave some money if they are responsible, but he remains unsure.

Still, he would like to prioritize working instead of relying on a distant relative who has no connection to him.

  • Natasha Richardson’s Death Still Unreal for Neeson

It’s been almost five years since Tony award winning actress Natasha Richardson died from injuries sustained in a skiing accident at the age of 45. And her husband, Liam Neeson, still can’t make heads or tails of the tragic event.

In an interview with Andersen Cooper on 60 Minutes, the Irish actor spoke about how her death still doesn’t seem real to him. He said, “There’s periods now in our New York residence when I hear the door opening, especially the first couple of years…Any time I hear that door opening, I still think I’m going to hear her.”

Richardson took a fall while skiing at the Mont Tremblant Resort in Quebec, Canada. She appeared to be fine after the accident, and she sent the paramedics away. However several hours later, she complained of a headache and was taken to the hospital. She died the following day from swelling around her brain. Neeson spoke of his decision to remove his wife from life support, “She was on life support…I went to her and I told her I loved her, said ‘Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this, you’ve banged your head’…she and I had made a pact, if any of us got into a vegetative state that we’d pull the plug…that was my immediate thought…’Okay, these tubes have to go. She’s gone.”

The Taken star told Cooper that he kept his wife alive long enough for family and friends to say goodbye. The enormous grief still washes over Neeson today. “It hits you. It’s like a wave. You get this profound feeling of instability.”

Neeson’s next project is the action movie Non-Stop which is set to hit theaters next weekend. In the film, Neeson plays a federal air marshall on an international flight who receives several text messages stating that one passenger will be killed every 20 minutes until $150 million is transferred to a secure bank account.

The 61-year-old has recently had a run of action movies, including three Taken films and The Grey. He confesses that his age is not reflective of his recent roles. “I’m 61 years of age, man, you know? Going around, fighting these guys, yeah, I feel a wee bit embarrassed, you know?”

The actor’s 60 Minutes interview will air on Sunday, February 23 at 7 pm ET.

  • Anderson Cooper Guest Speaker at UT Arlington

During a recent appearance at UT Arlington’s Maverick Speaker Series, Anderson Cooper shared emotional life stories as well as some funny anecdotes about women that still been ask him out on dates.

While the CNN news anchor announced that he was gay only two years ago, he’s apparently been getting asked out by females like crazy.

He even called them “very determined young ladies.”

Cooper captivated the 6,000 members of the audience with personal stories from his past. He even grew emotional when remembering his father’s death when he was only 10 years old.

Cooper also mentioned the tragedy of his brother’s later suicide.

“Sometimes I wish I had a physical scar so people would see the pain I felt,” he said. “I know what it’s like to be on the other side of the camera, and it’s not a good feeling.”

Cooper also addressed his struggle with separating his life from the lives of those within his intricate news stories.

He went on to say that over the years, it’s become increasingly difficult for him to separate his own life from the work that he does.

“There are times when I feel like my heart is too full with the people that I met,” he shared.

Cooper’s had many struggles to deal with, but he made it very clear that revealing his sexual orientation wasn’t one of them. Cooper said he had never kept being gay from his friends or family. It’s been two years since Cooper has publicly announced his sexual orientation.

“Being born gay is one of the greatest blessings in my life,” he told the crowd.

  • Anderson Cooper Has a Dummy and a Stalker

Anderson Cooper Has a Dummy and a Stalker

Anderson Cooper is a dummy. No, really, he is.

The CNN personality even admits it himself. Of course, he’s talking about the Anderson Cooper ventriloquist dummy his staff found for sale on eBay. The host addressed the hand-crafted item Thursday night on his AC360 show’s RidicuList.

“Why do they have such a bad reputation?” he asked, while showing a clip from The Twilight Zone. “They’re not creepy at all.”

The doll features Cooper’s signature white hair, piercing blue eyes and chiseled jaw-line. If you’re interested in purchasing “Mini Cooper,” it’s going to set you back a cool $360,000.

Who knows? Maybe Cooper will buy it himself, as he expressed an interest in finding out more about the art of ventriloquism.

“Except before I learn how to throw my voice, I think I should learn the art of regular talking,” he joked.

Cooper surely welcomes this break from the creepy experiences he has endured by the hands of his stalker, Alex Hausner, who was declared fit for trial, this week. He is accused of attempting to kick down Cooper’s door and threatening Cooper and his boyfriend, Benjamin Maisani.

The 38-year-old Hausner, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 12, appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday, where Judge Charles Solomon reviewed a report filed by Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center, where Hausner received treatment last year.

Solomon postponed the trial until February 25, to give prosecutors time to discuss a plea with Hausner’s lawyer, Wendell Cruz, who will attempt to get additional medical treatment for Hausner, instead of jail time.

Hausner received harassing, menacing and stalking charges after his arrest this past July for his altercation with Cooper. His bail was set at $75,000.

  • Kathy Griffin Sends Topless Photo – Anderson Cooper Shares!

We have all been there at least once – those wild and crazy New Year’s Eve parties where remembering what we did, or what happened is, well, extremely foggy.

It is the biggest party of the year – to drink heavily – among other things, and be merry! But wild and crazy is sorta unexpected when someone is hosting a New Years show – on Network television?

It seems that is exactly what Kathy Griffin does, this year – no doubt trying to outdo her previous year’s mischief when she stunned Cooper, again. According to E News, be careful about sending sexy selfies to< Anderson Cooper - they may end up on the Internet. Anderson Cooper, a journalist and Anchor for CNN received a topless photo from Griffin! She must have started early – but Cooper, embarrassed, commented: [Griffin] “just sent me this photo of her outfit for New Year’s Eve. She’s kidding, right? Please tell me she is.”

The comedienne, Griffin started early New Year’s – tweeting about her nipples – and the freezing weather expected in New York City’s Time Square – stating, “Let the nipple freezing begin!”

Cooper and Griffin co-host CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live – and have been since 2007. Apparently she’s created quite a few shockers over the years, and the topless photo is just another one of her ‘jaw-dropping’ ploys.

One, from E – recalls that while discussing the Balloon Boy hoax in 2009, Griffin said, “Wait..Falcon? F–kin’? Falcon? How do you say it?” Cooper muttered, “You’re terrible,” and moved on.

The bold and sometimes rank but hysterical jokester – Griffin – has been known to make Cooper blush on many an occasion, in a past New Year’s Eve party, she commented, “How do you not just stare in the mirror all day and pleasure yourself because you’re so gorgeous?” Cooper looked mortified.

Another great “Griffin -Cooper” event was when she kissed him on the lips – in 2011 – and joked about watching his “balls drop” at midnight.

Probably the most unexpected, but zany act she’s done during this long running duo’s show, is when she pretended to be giving Cooper oral sex. Shortly after, on Letterman he asked, “You went down on Anderson Cooper or something as the ball dropped, What did you do to Anderson Cooper?

She came back brazen as ever – “If you think this is the part where I’m gonna apologize for trying to go down on Anderson Cooper, you are sorely mistaken,” the Grammy nominee replied. “I tried, ladies and gays. I tried for you.”

Regardless of what critics say, calling her “lewd” and “vulgar” she makes the show, and keeps people guessing – wondering what on earth she is going to do next.

  • Bomb Explodes Near Cooper During Live Report

Anyone who says reporters don’t have a tough job should probably see this video.

Anderson Cooper, who was in Gaza over the weekend reporting on the Palestinian conflict, was standing a bit too close to the target of a rocket, and when it exploded behind him, he ducked in mid-sentence before carrying on with his report.

The talk-show host has been in the news lately for his adorable giggle-fits on “360” and for coming out via an email to a friend which went public, but the frightening video shows just how good a reporter he really is, and reminds us all of how dangerous the job can be.

  • Anderson Cooper: Talk Show Gets Cut

Anderson Cooper: Talk Show Gets Cut

Anderson Cooper, whose daytime talk show was highly anticipated before its debut last year, has begun to slide in ratings and won’t be back for a third season, Warner Brothers says.

Cooper also hosts “Anderson Cooper 360” on CNN and is a contributor on “60 Minutes”, but his daytime talk show hasn’t suffered because of lack of input on his part; rather, a studio executive says, daytime talk in general are seeing a huge dip in ratings, and newcomers aren’t faring so well.

“While we made significant changes to the format, set and produced it live in its second season, the series will not be coming back for a third season in a marketplace that has become increasingly difficult to break through,” Warner Brothers said in a statement.

Cooper pushed for those live episodes, mostly because he wanted to have a headstart on the news while it was fresh, and the format seemed to be in his favor. However, it wasn’t enough to push the show into a top ratings spot.

“I am very proud of the work that our terrific staff has put into launching and sustaining our show for two seasons. I am also grateful to Telepictures for giving me the opportunity, and indebted to viewers, who have responded so positively. I look forward to doing more great shows this season, and though I’m sorry we won’t be continuing, I have truly enjoyed it,” Cooper said.

The show’s last episodes will air next summer.

  • Anderson Cooper Is Kelly Ripa’s Top Choice

Anderson Cooper Is Kelly Ripa’s Top Choice

Anderson Cooper is Kelly Ripa’s number one pick for the new “Live!” co-host, so of course rumors are now flying that he’ll be joining her in September when the new season begins. And while producers have announced that they’ll reveal Ripa’s newest partner in crime on the 4th, some are already predicting the silver fox will take the honors.

Cooper has a lot on his plate, however, as he’s dealing with rampant rumors that his longtime boyfriend, Ben Maisani, was busted kissing another man recently. Cooper has hinted that he wants to marry Maisani over Labor Day weekend, but hasn’t spoken publicly about the cheating scandal.

He also sat down for an interview with biggest and most beautiful star in the world Beyonce, who spoke about World Humanitarian Day and doing something that impacts the lives of others.

Cooper seems pretty busy with AC360–his CNN talk show–so it’s highly unlikely he’ll be pulling co-host duties with Ripa. They’re just BFFs, as is evidenced by the photo he tweeted of the two of them on vacation.

Anderson Cooper: Gay, Proud, and Loved

There’s been speculation for years on Anderson Cooper’s personal life, but he chose not to talk much about it until recently, when he responded to a Daily Beast writer’s email asking for opinions on the way people in the public eye choose to come out.

The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.
I have always been very open and honest about this part of my life with my friends, my family, and my colleagues. In a perfect world, I don’t think it’s anyone else’s business, but I do think there is value in standing up and being counted. I’m not an activist, but I am a human being and I don’t give that up by being a journalist.

Cooper says that while the world is making greater strides every day towards giving the LGBT community more rights, the fact is that bullying, discrimination, and violence against people based on their sexual preferences is still a huge problem, and he wants to include his voice in the fight for fairness. He also wants to abolish the rumors that he is trying to hide a part of himself which he has never kept a secret from those closest to him; he simply didn’t think it necessary to speak publicly about his personal life as a journalist.

I’ve always believed that who a reporter votes for, what religion they are, who they love, should not be something they have to discuss publicly. As long as a journalist shows fairness and honesty in his or her work, their private life shouldn’t matter. I’ve stuck to those principles for my entire professional career, even when I’ve been directly asked “the gay question,” which happens occasionally. I did not address my sexual orientation in the memoir I wrote several years ago because it was a book focused on war, disasters, loss and survival. I didn’t set out to write about other aspects of my life.

Recently, however, I’ve begun to consider whether the unintended outcomes of maintaining my privacy outweigh personal and professional principle. It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something – something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid. This is distressing because it is simply not true.

Being a journalist, traveling to remote places, trying to understand people from all walks of life, telling their stories, has been the greatest joy of my professional career, and I hope to continue doing it for a long time to come. But while I feel very blessed to have had so many opportunities as a journalist, I am also blessed far beyond having a great career.

I love, and I am loved.

Cooper has been in headlines most recently for some hilarious giggle fits he had on air, the most popular being when he relayed a story about actor Gerard Depardieu.

While Cooper is receiving quite a bit of support from the LGBT community, some aren’t happy with the way he chose to come out. Gawker media chief Nick Denton tweeted about it today:

  • Anderson Cooper Acts Like a Dyngus

Over the summer Anderson Cooper went on a 40 second giggle fest after he discussed Gerard Depardieu’s airplane urinating incident on The Ridiculist. The French actor could not wait to use the toilet a moment longer and decided to let out his own jet stream on a CityJet flight from Paris to Dublin.

The following clip made me laugh for over five minutes and I had to wipe my eyes twice; apparently laughter is contagious:

Anderson told CNN anchor John King that he was completely embarrassed over the display and thinks he laughs like a 13-year-old girl at an N’ Sync concert.

    Alas, his giggles have returned.

This time the trigger for his giggling was Dyngus Day, a Polish-American holiday widely celebrated in my hometown of Buffalo, NY. It is a common custom for boys to sprinkle girls that they like with water and for girls to respond to such initiations by tapping them with pussy willows.

Other polish festivities surrounding the pre-Easter event include polka, lots of liquor, and pierogis (fattening and delicious dumplings stuffed with cheese, potatoes, and sauerkraut and fried in butter).

The entire scene can look very bizarre to outsiders and it is understandable why Cooper was lost for words for over a minute, but some people are mad and feel like he is picking on the ethnic holiday.

Here is what some people posted on YouTube:

“Would it be funny to laugh at the traditions of CNN’s favorite groups like Blacks and Gays? Anderson Cooper would go crazy if anyone ever laughed at? or ridiculed his Gay people.”

“Indeed. These media morons like Anderson? Cooper are anti-Polish Bigots.”

“I wonder if he makes fun of other holidays,? like say, Martin Luther King Day or Kwanza? Another prime example of anti-Polish sentiment in the USA.”

Cooper apologized on Twitter for his giggle fit:

In ridiculist I called my silly giggle fit “so stupid” not @dyngusday. Sounds like a fun celebration. Genuinely sorry if I offended anyone.(image) 4 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

  • Anderson Cooper Plugging Google+ A Good Sign For Google

Anderson Cooper is plugging Google+. Does this mean that there’s a “big three” now? Will Google+ join Twitter and Facebook as social entities that companies feel compelled to plug?

If you watch enough TV, you’ve probably heard this on cable news shows, advertisements, etc.:

“Follows us on Twitter and like us on Facebook.”

It’s a common request to close on, and a way for shows and brands to promote more interaction with fans and customers. In my experience, it was “like us on Facebook” first, and then Twitter became a powerful enough social network to be included. Now it looks like (at least some) organizations are looking at Google+ in the same way they look at Facebook and Twitter.

Google engineer Joseph Smarr caught the Silver Fox’s plug and took a picture. He said, “Oh snap, +Anderson Cooper 360 just said “add us to your circles” live on CNN (first time I’ve heard it). Achievement unlocked.”

Since then, it has become a much-shared post across the platform – especially by Googlers. Some users have commented that Anderson Cooper has been good about promoting Google+, making sure to do it on every episode of AC 360 – but it’s definitely not a universal practice. Plenty of cable news shows end with the “follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook” spiel, but personally I haven’t seen many others plugging Google+.

Google+ is growing, there’s no denying that. The latest reports tout 90+ million users for the new social outlet. The White House just joined Google+ and on January 30th, President Obama will host his first-ever Hangout.

Since Google is adamant that Google+ is Google, little things like this Anderson Cooper shoutout really matter. In the future, will we see a little G+ logo next to the iconic Twitter and Facebook logos everywhere?

Have you seen any Google+ plugging on any other shows or ads? Let us know in the comments.
