  • Dana Perino: Obama’s Plan “Defies Logic”

Dana Perino, former White House press secretary, went on America’s Newsroom after President Obama’s speech announcing his plan to grant “deferred action” status to two illegal immigrant groups.

She was there to discuss, not only Obama’s announcement, but also Speaker of the House John Boehner’s reaction to the announcement.

He said that Obama’s intent to impose executive action, and therefore grant what is essentially amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, will “deliberately sabotage any chance of enacting bipartisan reforms that he claims to seek.”

He also added that Obama is “damaging the presidency itself.”

Dana Perino agreed with most of what Boehner said, saying of what she called Obama’s 9-month secret plan, “It defies logic, it defies fact, and it defies what the president just said 10 days ago, which is he believes that the midterm election result — in which he was handed big losses – that that lesson was America wants Washington to work more together.”

Bill Hemmer proceeded to ask Dana Perino of the president’s action, “What changed? And, why now?”

Perino admitted, “I think the only thing that changed was a political calculation on behalf of the president.”

Dana Perino and John Boehner haven’t, by far, been the only voices to put down Obama’s plan.

Senator Mitch McConnell, who will become the new majority leader in the Senate in January, said before Obama’s speech, “If President Obama acts in defiance of the people and imposes his will on the country, Congress will act.”

What that action may be is yet to be seen.

One thing is certain to many, including Utah Representative Jason Chaffetz, who will replace Darrell Issa as Chair of the House Oversight Committee in January. He said the timing of Obama’s announcement was “crystal clear”.

He added, “It’s all about politics. He just got slaughtered in an election.”

Even the people are taking a stand against Obama’s new plan. Protesters lined the streets of Las Vegas, where Obama was to sign his controversial actions, holding signs that said, “No Amnesty” and “Impeach Obama”.

What do you think of Obama’s actions on immigration? Do you agree with those like Dana Perino that his actions are illogical? Or do you think he is doing a great and compassionate thing for our country?

  • Ann Coulter Calls Dave Brat Win a “Massive Wakeup Call” to GOP

Ann Coulter thinks Dave Brat’s recent victory over Republican incumbent Eric Cantor in last Tuesday’s primary election is a good thing for the Republican party.

The conservative political commentator joined Megyn Kelly on Fox News Live to discuss the shocking election results.

“Amnesty loses big,” Coulter told Kelly. “The idea that this will hurt the Republicans in 2016 is insane.”

Coulter believes Cantor lost the primary due to one key issue: his support of amnesty for 11 million illegal aliens.

Cantor, who has served as House Majority Leader since 2011, spent significantly more on his campaign than Tea Party-backed Brat ($5 million vs. less than $150,000.)

But Brat, an economist and professor at Randolph-Macon College, played up Cantor’s support of amnesty and Coulter believes that was the key to Brat’s impressive victory.

“Whenever the voters know an election is about immigration, they will always vote against more immigration – especially amnesty,” Coulter wrote on her website.

She insists Brat’s win is a defeat for amnesty versus a victory for the Tea Party.

In general, Coulter doesn’t support the Tea Party: “… the big, national tea party groups are mostly shysters and con-men raising money for their own self-aggrandizement.”

But in mid-April she threw her support behind Brat:

“If you don’t think the Republican Party should speak exclusively for Wall Street, Silicon Valley and the Chamber of Commerce, then you have to support … Dave Brat … challenging the amnesty-addled Eric Cantor in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District.”

In the short term, Coulter told Kelly, she hopes Brat’s victory over Cantor will “shut down any more happy talk about amnesty this year.”

In the long term, she hopes the GOP will see it as a wakeup call. In fact, she’d like them to declare a moratorium on immigration.

“I like Israel’s immigration policy: instant, unapologetic, unsentimental deportation of illegal aliens.”

  • Susan Sarandon: Involved in a New Relationship?

Is Susan Sarandon in a relationship with Jonathan Bricklin? The two appeared together in December during a meeting of New York’s Hudson Union Society, as seen in the video clip above, and they are co-investors of a ping pong bar in New York City called SPiN. People have speculated for a while that more was going on between the two. Susan and Tim Robbins ended a 23 year relationship back in 2009. Apparently Sarandon wanted a much younger man this time around. She is 67 and Bricklin is just 36 years old.

During a recent interview with AARP magazine, Susan Sarandon talks about her previous relationships, raising her two daughters with Tim Robbins, her activism and her business ventures. Some of her activism work involves amnesty organizations.

Sarandon posted a photo of herself with Yoko Ono at one such recent event via Twitter.

When asked about the status of her relationship with Jonathan Bricklin she had the following to say.

“Jonathan and I collaborate on different things,” she says. “That means a lot of things.” When asked if that might mean romance, she says, “Yeah, I think so.”

And although the age difference between her and Bricklin never arises she does talk some about aging.

“I’m getting that sagging thing,” she says of the skin under her eyes. She claims she had the fat “suctioned” off several years before.. She doesn’t like facial fillers — “they make everyone start to look alike” — and she says she hasn’t had any Botox injections. So how has she managed to keep such beautiful looking skin? She avoided lying out in the sun, but “not because I was thinking of my skin, but it bored me to lie there baking.”

If two people were ever to maintain a relationship with more than 30 years between them, at least Susan Sarandon looks the part of a much younger woman. And as to whether or not Jonathan Bricklin minds that sag underneath her eyes–she doesn’t say. It would be the sag elsewhere that a man of 36 would likely complain about first.

  • Russia Frees ‘Pussy Riot’ Members

    Russia Frees ‘Pussy Riot’ Members

Two incarcerated members of the Russian protest-punk band ‘Pussy Riot’ were released from a Russian prison Monday, due to a new amnesty legislation which some watchdog groups view as a Kremlin public relations stunt in time for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

Pussy Riot members Maria Alekhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova were found guilty of hooliganism with religious undertones of hatred after a live set at Moscow’s main cathedral in March 2012, and were sentenced to two years in prison. A third member, Yekaterina Samutsevich, was released on a suspended sentence just months after the hooliganism conviction.

Russian lawmakers have said the new bill, which the State Duma voted 446-0 in favor of, will likely free roughly 2,000 prisoners. The new laws apply to those who are non-violent offenders, and are catered mostly toward first-time offenders, minors and women with small children. Both Tolokonnikova and Alekhina have young kids.

Here’s a clip of the antics that garnered Pussy Riot their charges of hooliganism, after engaging in their “punk prayer”:

Alekhina, 25, was released from a prison outside the Volga river city of Nizhny Novgorod, and commented, “If I had a chance to turn it down (the amnesty), I would have done it, no doubt about that,” adding, “This is not an amnesty. This is a hoax and a PR move.”

Tolokonnikova, 24, exited a prison in the eastern Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk earlier today, and commented, “How do you like our Siberian weather here?” The singer also said that she and Alekhina will form a human rights group to assist Russian prisoners, stating, “I saw this small totalitarian machine from the inside. Russia functions the same way the prison colony does.”

In related news, Russian President Vladimir Putin pardoned former billionaire Mikhail Khodorkovsky at the end of his annual press conference on Thursday. Khodorkovsky was formerly the chief of Yukos Oil, and one of the richest people in the world. He was convicted of fraud and tax evasion in 2003, and ended up serving 10 years. Some have speculated that Khodorkovsky’s pardon was another attempt by the Kremlin to clean up the Russian image in time for the Sochi Games.

  • Russia May Free Pussy Riot Members

As the Winter Olympics being held in Sochi in February draw near, Russia’s parliament passed a new amnesty bill on Wednesday, which is widely viewed as being a measure to calm international watchdog groups over the Kremlin’s human rights records.

The bill would likely free the two imprisoned members of the Pussy Riot punk band, as well as a 30-member crew of a Greenpeace ship, who were taken into custody after an Arctic protest.

Russian lawmakers have said the new bill, which the State Duma voted 446-0 in favor of, will likely free roughly 2,000 prisoners. The new laws apply to those who are non-violent offenders, and are catered mostly toward first-time offenders, minors and women with small children. Jailed Pussy Riot members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina both have small children, though no names were actually listed on the new bill.

Here’s a clip of the antics that garnered Pussy Riot their charges of hooliganism, after engaging in their “punk prayer”:

Tolokonnikova and Alekhina are both serving two-year sentences for their hooliganism charges, after “upping teh punx” at Moscow’s main cathedral.

All sorts of punks just won’t leave Vladimir Putin alone:

Regarding the potential release of the crew of a Greenpeace boat that was arrested, Greenpeace spokesman Aaron Gray-Block commented, “The Arctic 30 now hope they can spend Christmas at home. But it is too early to say.” The bill is expected to go into effect today, as soon as it hits the Russian media, though it may take six months for any prisoners who might benefit from it to be freed.

The Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise was boarded and seized by Russian security agents in international waters on September 19, and was subsequently towed to the port of Murmansk.

The Arctic Sunrise’s captain, Peter Willcox, said in a statement, “I might soon be going home to my family, but I should never have been charged and jailed in the first place.”
