  • Emma Stone and ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Costar Andrew Garfield Taking Break?

Emma Stone and boyfriend–as well as Amazing Spider-Man costar–are reportedly taking a break from their relationship of three years. Isn’t that typically the way to ease into a full-on break up?

Us Weekly reports the two have been having problems, and haven’t been spotted together in public since some time in January.

“They had been fighting a lot and they hadn’t seen each other. They have both been working but they weren’t getting along,” a source tells the publication.

Andrew Garfield has reportedly been very busy filming Martin Scorsese’s flick Silence in Taiwan. Emma Stone has been wowing fans on the Broadway stage in Cabaret in New York City.

“He’s very in his character,” another source tells Us Weekly of Andrew Garfield.

Garlfield plays a Jesuit priest in Scorsese’s film.

“He’s lost weight, and he’s in a dark place mentally for his performance and he’s not boyfriend material right now,” the source adds.

Such is the life of an actor, however, and many of them manage to maintain their relationships while playing emotional roles.

Rumors of a split starting swirling when Emma Stone, who received numerous awards and nominations for her role in Birdman, attended several awards events solo. Andrew Garfield was nowhere to be seen.

Do you think this is the unofficial beginning of the end for Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield?

  • Official ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Trailer Released

Though Sony’s continuing ownership of the Spider-Man movie rights have kept the superhero out of Marvel’s expanding Avengers-related movie titles, last year’s The Amazing Spider-Man rebooted the franchise and was surprisingly well-received by fans. The series will continue next year with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

At San Diego Comic Con this year the movie’s producers teased the main villain for the sequel, Electro. Jamie Foxx will play the Spider-Man villian with a heavily CG costume inspired by Electro from the “Ultimate Marvel” comics.

Today Sony finally released the first full-length trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Foxx’s Electro features prominently, though at least two other Spider-Man villains make an appearance. A mech-like Rhino will be a part of the movie, played by Paul Giamatti, and a version of the Green Goblin can also be glimpsed in the video.

As for the rest of the cast, Andrew Garfield will be back in the title role as Peter Parker and Emma Stone will once again play doomed Spider-Man love interest Gwen Stacy. Denis Leary will be back as Stacy’s police Captain father and Martin Sheen is once again credited as Spider-Man motivation Uncle Ben. Sally Field will again play Aunt May, while Chris Cooper enters the franchise as the head of OsCorp, Norman Osborn. His son, Harry Osborn, will be played by Dane DeHaan of Chronicle fame.

  • Comic-Con 2013: New ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Trailer Teases Electro

No one was particularly calling for last year’s Spider-Man reboot. However, The Amazing Spider-Man came out during a summer packed with movies such as The Avengers and managed to impress both critics and Marvel fans. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will now have a place at conventions across the U.S. for the rest of their lives.

This week, though, the stars will be at San Diego Comic-Con, where some big reveals for the next Spider-Man movie are being made. Even the teaser for the Spider-Man panel itself has now revealed a first look a villain from the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Though it was revealed months ago that Jaime Foxx would be taking on the role of Marvel villain Electro, it was still unclear what version of the character would be used. Though Foxx stated he would not be wearing Electro’s recognizable and gaudy green and yellow suit, his description of his costume was vague and confusing. The teaser below shows that producers have gone with a more electricity-under-the-skin look inspired by Electro from the “Ultimate Marvel” universe:

That was just the teaser for the panel. There’s no doubt that some other big news and first-looks will come out of the panel itself, which will take place this afternoon.

  • New Footage In Australian Trailer for Amazing Spider-Man

There’s over a month to go until the retelling of the first chapter of Spider-Man’s life comes back to the big screen as Sony apparently figures fans need a new introductory story into the life of everybody’s favorite web-slinger once every 10 years. I mean, they have to think of all the Twitter-using teenagers who are too young to appreciate Sam Raimi’s origin story, right? Could it be that Sony is just trying to hang on to the rights to Spider-Man, now more than ever as Marvel’s movie-making department is riding the wave of Avengers success?

Cynicism aside, there is a new trailer for the new Spider-Man origin movie that comes out on July 3, and because this one was aimed at the Australian audience, there’s some new footage the American trailers have yet to include, courtesy of Topless Robot:

There’s are some really critical eyes pondering over each piece of Spider-Man content that get released, and as a self-proclaimed movie geek, I thoroughly approve. Granted, the only criticism Sony will consider is the opening day bottom line, but nevertheless, the criticisms are valid for those of us who want a great Spider-Man movies. Because Topless Robot’s “SPIDER-CONS” observations are similar to my own, I’ll share there’s:

  • That one horrible webslinging shot
  • The skateboarding (really? Really?!)
  • All the parent shit
  • That football bullshit at the end
  • While I’m actually more impressed than I care to admit concerning the webslinging, I do agree with the final three criticisms, especially dealing with Peter Parker’s parents. All I can offer here is much like Venom, Sony’s commitment to the “Ultimate Spider-Man” storyline is unfortunate. Bringing in something of an emo Spider-Man does not inspire me, but I’m probably in the minority because it’s easy to see just how successful this movie is going to be. Fourth of July all to itself? That almost guarantees a massive opening-day box office.
