  • ‘The Mentalist’ Says Goodbye to Two Main Characters

The Mentalist said goodbye to two main staples of the show on Sunday. Amanda Righetti, who played Grace Van Pelt, and Owain Yeoman, who played Wayne Rigsby, bid the hit CBS series adieu. The couple’s impending departure was made known back in August, which likely fueled the onslaught of viewers who made their final appearance such an overwhelming success.

Grace Van Pelt and Wayne Rigsby wed during a very quiet and romantic service during the season five finale. Fans have been wondering since the announcement back August if they would make it out of their final episode alive. Did they?

Amanda Righetti helped hype the duo’s departure via Twitter–although there was plenty of hype without her assistance.

Owain Yeoman was very excited to see that fans of The Mentalist helped make #GoodbyeWayneandGrace a worldwide trend.

Fans won’t have to wait very long to see Amanda Righetti back on TV. She is slated to appear in both Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. during their crossover episodes. She will play the role of a pediatric nurse.

The Mentalist is about Patrick Jane, an independent consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Jane serves the CBI without any law enforcement credentials, however, as he is an admittedly fraudulent psychic medium. The skills he used in making people believe he had medium powers serve him well in profiling criminals and their actions. Jane works opposite Special Agent Teresa Lisbon who is played by Robin Tunney. Tim Kang plays Special Agent Cho. Grace Van Pelt and Wayne Rigsby rounded out the heart of the team.

There are no spoilers here. You will have to check out Sunday’s episode of The Mentalist “on demand” or online to see Van Pelt and Rigsby’s depature.

How do you expect the departure of Van Pelt and Rigsby will impact future episodes of The Mentalist?

  • The Mentalist: Two Cast Members Say Goodbye

On this past Sunday’s episode of The Mentalist, the show’s fans said goodbye to two characters that have been there from the beginning.

Wayne Rigsby and Grace Van Pelt, played by Owain Yeoman and Amanda Righetti respectively, always had a mutual attraction that played out on screen. The “will they, won’t they” on and off relationship between the two characters led to much humor and drama as they navigated the waters of having an office romance.

The two dated other people in the show at times, with Grace Van Pelt even becoming engaged to an eventual villain who turned out to be Red John’s accomplice, but the two were reunited in the sixth season again.

In an interview with TV Guide, Yeoman said that both he and Righetti were satisfied with the closure provided for their characters.

“I feel very satisfied that we gave the characters the conclusion that we did,” Yeoman said. “We chose both the most satisfying but also the most practical way of ending their characters.”

On Sunday, Yeoman live-tweeted his character’s last episode of The Mentalist, even noting in one scene that it was a “very emotional scene to shoot” because it was “our last shot as a team” and the “last scene of my last night shooting.”

At one point he notes that #GoodbyeWayneandGrace is trending worldwide.

In the sixth episode “Wedding In Red,” Rigsby proposes to Van Pelt and the two are married later in the episode. In another episode of the sixth season, a scene is shone two years in the future where Rigsby and Van Pelt are still married and now have a child.

Amanda Righetti brought attention to the final episode with a tweet as well.

The Mentalist is a procedural cop show following the character Patrick Jane, played by Simon Baker, and his fellow California Bureau of Investigation colleagues. The show is in its sixth season and spent much of its run pursuing a villain named Red John.

  • Amanda Righetti to Leave ‘The Mentalist’

Amanda Righetti to Leave ‘The Mentalist’

Amanda Righetti has confirmed that she will, in fact, be leaving The Mentalist. Her last appearance on the hit CBS show will come in early December. Righetti isn’t the only actor bidding The Mentalist adieu either. Owain Yeoman has announced that he is leaving, too. This means huge changes are coming to the show. These two have played such major roles on the show that it certainly won’t be easy to fill their shoes. This will no doubt mean Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon–portrayed by Simon Baker and Robin Tunney, respectively, will have even larger roles in the coming seasons.

Amanda plays the role of Grace Van Pelt on The Mentalist. Owain Yeoman plays her fairly new TV husband, Agent Wayne Rigsby. The two tied the knot, following a surprise engagement, in a romantic wedding ceremony during the sixth season of the show.

“I feel like the time is probably right,” Amanda Righetti says of leaving The Mentalist, during an interview with TV Line, adding, “It’s the end of one thing but the beginning of something new.”

She also spills the beans about the show’s post-Red John era, which begins on December 1st, explaining that the show will then jump two years ahead of the Red John saga.

“Basically, they have their own private security company,” Righetti says of Grace Van Pelt and Wayne Rigsby. “So we sort of are outsourced and freelanced with the FBI, and that’s how we fit in.”

Sadly, this means that Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman will only appear in two December episodes before they leave The Mentalist. Do you think their absence will be strongly felt by fans? It definitely will be interesting to learn who producers will bring on board as new characters on the show.

Might the departure of these popular characters seriously impact the viewership of The Mentalist? Or do Simon Baker and Robin Tunney carry the majority of the show?

  • ‘Mentalist’ Star Amanda Righetti Confirms Departure

Amanda Righetti, the 30-year-old actress who plays special agent Grace Van Pelt on CBS’ hit show, The Mentalist, has confirmed that she is set to be leaving the series. Righetti says that she and co-star, Owain Yeoman (‘Wayne Rigsby,’ her on-screen love) will both be exiting the show after this season’s finale.

Righetti has played special agent Van Pelt since the pilot episode of the series; The Mentalist airs Sunday nights on CBS.

The first reports of Righetti leaving the show surfaced back in August. At that time, creator Bruno Heller didn’t comment on whether or not those rumors were true.

We now know that they probably were, though Heller has not officially commented since Righetti announced the news of her exit. As for her reason for the departure, the actress told TVLine, “I feel like the time is probably right. It’s the end of one thing but the beginning of something new.”

The 30-year-old can’t comment, however, on the specifics of how the pair will be written out of the drama – and not just because she is sworn to secrecy.

“It keeps changing,” the Mentalist actress’ says. “It think it was an unexpected turn for the writers, too.”

Rigsby and Van Pelt will still be in the December 1st episode, which is set in the future – 2-years later, in fact.

Righetti explains the lovers’ roles in the ‘future’ episodes, saying, “Basically, they have their own private security company. So we sort of are outsourced and freelanced with the FBI, and that’s how we fit in.”

You can watch the next episode of The Mentalist on Sunday night on CBS; it airs at 10 p.m.

  • Amanda Righetti, Owain Yeoman Reportedly Leaving “The Mentalist”

Amanda Righetti and her onscreen love interest, Owen Yeoman, are reportedly leaving the show toward the end of season 6, which premieres in September.

Though the show’s producers haven’t confirmed the rumor, series creator Bruno Heller did talk a bit about a new female character who will be introduced in 2014.

“Up until now, they’ve been tied by this professional dynamic and this mission they’re on,” Heller said of the popular characters. “And that held their personal relationship in suspense. Once the Red John saga is done, how do they find a new way to relate to each other? The chemistry has always been there bubbling up. But he now has other priorities and other agendas and other pressures. When you’re as good a detective as Jane is, it’s very hard to walk away even when you want to walk away. Some people wont let Jane walk away from what he’s so good at. And our new female lead has something to do with that.”

Heller also spoke about the Red John situation, saying that it will force the characters to evaluate themselves a little more.

“They’ve always been in love with each other,” he said of Grace Van Pelt and Wayne Rigsby. “As we get closer to Red John, all of the team members will start thinking about their major life decisions. That applies to both Lisbon [Robin Tunney’s character] and Grace. They haven’t been able to look to their own feelings. As the show rolls on, those feelings will come to the fore.”

Righetti hasn’t commented on the rumor; the new season starts on September 29 at 10 p.m.
