Amanda Bynes: Bong Tossing Case Dismissed

Amanda Bynes has had a rough few years. She went a little crazy and had a few run-ins with the law, but now things are looking up for the young actress.

A few months ago a judge told Bynes that if she was able to stay out of trouble and continued to go to her ordered counseling, he would dismiss the bong tossing case against her.

Many wondered if Bynes would be able to comply with the judges orders, but she did and on Monday, the case was dismissed.

Bynes had been charged with wreckless endangerment and marijuana possession after an apartment manager reported to the cops that she was smoking marijuana in the apartment lobby. When police arrived at Bynes’s apartment, she threw a bong out the window onto the streets.

Bynes’s attorney submitted an affidavit to the judge saying that Bynes had completed the orders and although Bynes did not appear in court, the judge still agreed to dismiss the case.

“She did her counseling and it’s now all behind her,” her attorney said.

Bynes received psychiatric treatment last year and was released from rehab to the care of her parents. Her parents have kept a careful eye on Bynes ever since and she is rarely seen anywhere without one of them.

Many of her fans had hoped that Bynes would recover from her problems and return to acting, but she has officially retired and seems to have no plans of returning to the industry.

Bynes was a child star and already had a successful career by the age of 13.

It is possible that she just needs a break from the spotlight and may return to acting in the near future. Right now it seems like she is only focused on getting healthy again.

Do you think she will return to acting?

  • Amanda Bynes: Bong-Tossing Case Thrown Out

Amanda Bynes has one less legal issue weighing her down as she works to build herself a new life. Charges for reckless endangerment and marijuana possession stemming from an incident where the former Nickelodeon actress threw a bong out the window of her 36th-story New York City apartment have now been dropped.

The court previously said the charges against Bynes would be dismissed if she stayed out of trouble and attended twice weekly counseling sessions. Attorney Gerald Shargel submitted an affidavit saying Amanda Bynes had complied with these requirements.

“She did her counseling and it’s now all behind her,” Shargel said in a statement to the media outside of the court house.

Amanda Bynes went through a very troubling period during which she dressed in a bizarre fashion and often wore unkempt wigs both in public and during court appearances. She was convicted of driving drunk in one incident and in another she set a fire in a driveway at a California home–not her own.

Amanda has been under psychiatric care for a long time now and is said to be doing well. She is a student at a design school in California.

Bynes became a star when she was just 13 years old when she landed her own show on Nickelodeon. The Amanda Show was a huge hit, and after that she went on to star in films including Hairspray, What A Girl Wants, and She’s the Man.

It’s uncertain as to whether or not this is the last of the legal proceedings held over Amanda Bynes’s head pending further counseling and good behavior. If there is more it’s likely those charges could get dropped as well. The former actress (she announced in 2010 that she was leaving acting) seems to be doing well in this new life she is carving out for herself. Hopefully this positive trend continues.

  • Amanda Bynes Will Remain in Psychiatric Treatment

Amanda Bynes’ lawyer, Gerald Shargel, reportedly told a New York judge the troubled actress will be undergoing psychiatric treatment in California for up to 18 more months. Shargel informed Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Diana Boyar of the troubled star’s status Thursday at a hearing in Bynes’ bong-throwing case, the New York Post reported.

“She’s in a hospital in California. It’s uncertain when she will be released. Obviously she is being treated there,” the Post reported Shargel said at Thursday’s hearing. “We are in touch with the district attorney’s office and we hope to resolve this by Dec 5.”

In this case, Bynes, 27, is accused of tossing the drug paraphernalia out of a 36th-floor window of her apartment last May. She was charged with tampering with evidence, reckless endangerment and possession of marijuana after the incident. Bynes has been hospitalized for an undisclosed mental illness since July, when the former child star was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold after she tried to break into a retirement community in her hometown of Thousand Oaks, California.

The following night, she allegedly set a small fire in a driveway, which led to police involvement and her eventual hospitalization.

The bong-tossing incident is not even the only case that Bynes is dealing with right now. In a drunk driving case in California, Bynes’ California lawyer Rich Hutton said Tuesday she is mentally unfit to stand trial for a charge related to her April 2012 arrest in Los Angeles. He said the actress currently does not have the mental capacity to understand the legal proceedings. The judge in that case transferred the matter to a mental health court, which will conduct a hearing to determine Bynes’ mental competency.

The actress actually once had a bright future ahead of her before the pressures of growing up Hollywood got to her. Amanda is known for her work on TV’s “What I Like About You” and “The Amanda Show,” as well as in the film “Hairspray”, while her most recent major screen credit was a supporting role in 2010’s “Easy A”. Unfortunately, that once bright career has been overshadowed in recent years by her bizarre Twitter rants and frequent run-ins with the law.
