  • Rep. Alan Grayson Accused Of Domestic Violence

In yet another case of the personal life of a congressman making headlines for the wrong reasons, Representative Alan Grayson has been accused of injuring his wife in a domestic dispute. Grayson is a democratic congressman from Florida.

Alan Grayson’s wife has accused him of shoving her and injuring her over the weekend, although the congressman has denied the allegations. Through his spokesperson, he has said that her accusation is an “outright lie,” and it seems as though she may just be trying to draw negative attention to her estranged husband.

The alleged incident occurred less than 2 months after his wife, Lolita, filed for divorce. They had been married for 24 years, but his wife said that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.”

The two of them are no longer living together, and she says that he came over unannounced wanting to talk to her, and resulted to using physical force shortly after.

Lauren Doney, the spokesperson for Alan Grayson, said that “Witnesses reject Lolita Grayson’s story and that it was Ms. Grayson who physically attacked the Congressman as he attempted to visit with his children. He did not respond to Ms. Grayson’s violent assault.”

However, according to his wife’s side of the story, she says that after she refused to speak to him, and gave him his mail, the Congressman “then deliberately and with force pushed [Lolita Grayson] very hard against the front door, causing [her] to fall to the ground as a result.” Along with her statement, she delivered photos that showed large bruises to her left leg and left shoulder.

Lolita Grayson did admit that she had pushed her husband’s face in addition to kneeing him in the stomach, which she says was “in order to protect and defend herself.” Doney further mentioned that since filing for divorce, Grayson’s wife has become increasingly erratic, and has shown a disconnect from reality.

Despite the accusations by his wife being denied, a judge has granted a temporary protective injunction against U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson. The Sheriff’s office document that was released revealed that Lolita Grayson was the victim in the incident, and the offense is listed as domestic-violence battery.

Alan Grayson represents Florida’s 9th Congressional District, an area that covers much of eastern Orange County, Osceola County, and a sliver of Polk County. He was not arrested after the incident, and is not currently facing any criminal charges.

  • Alan Grayson Likens Tea Party to KKK

Yahoo News reports Democratic firebrand and Florida congressman Alan Grayson stirred up a Tea Party hornet’s nest when he told Al Sharpton on MSNBC that the Tea Party movement is really about as popular as famous white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan.

In the interview, Grayson describes how he believes ordinary Americans are angry and fed up with the Tea Party’s tactics. “They come to the President saying, ‘If you don’t let us steal your car, then, we are going to burn down your house,’” Grayson said, referring to the Tea Party caucus.

Far from slinking into the shadows like a typical Democrat, Grayson embraced and continued the controversy, following his comments with a logo he sent out attached to a fundraising email:

The Roll Call noted the National Republican Congressional Committee spokesperson Matt Gorman saying “There’s no excuse for the hateful words and imagery used by Congressman Grayson. House Democrats should swiftly and strongly condemn him and return the money he has raised for them. This hate-filled rhetoric has Americans fed up with Washington.”

Grayson responded to these allegations in a statement, arguing that the Tea Party was responsible for more negativity than he could possibly create. “Tea Party members have circulated countless altered pictures depicting President Obama and the First Lady as monkeys. Tea Party members also called my fellow Member of Congress, civil rights hero John Lewis, a ‘n***ger,’ and Rep. Barney Frank a ‘faggot,’” Grayson wrote.

“One could go on and on, because there is overwhelming evidence that the Tea Party is the home of bigotry and discrimination in America today, just as the KKK was for an earlier generation,” he continued. “If the shoe fits, wear it.”
