  • Chrissie Hynde Swings Back Behind New Album, Odd to Be ‘Solo’

Chrissie Hynde has pretty much been The Pretenders for decades. She is the voice of such classic tracks as “Middle of the Road,” “Brass in Pocket,” and “Don’t Get Me Wrong.” So for Chrissie Hynde to do something that could be termed a “solo” album seemed odd to even her. It’s kind of like Tom Petty doing solo albums, when you know good and well he’ll still bring along at least half The Heartbreakers for the ride.

“It’s a goddam awful phrase [solo album]. I never wanted to be solo, and I said a thousand times I never would, so it gives me a cold chill to see my name out there on its own,” Hynde said back in June when the album was about to drop.

But drop it did. The album is called Stockholm, and Hynde has been touring behind it. Recently she hit Akron, Ohio. That was a bit of a homecoming for Hynde, who was born in Akron in 1951 and graduated from Firestone High School there. Although she lives in London, and has for 40 years, she keeps an apartment in Akron.

At the concert, she called Akron “the city that spit me out.”

Chuck Yarborough of the Cleveland Plain Dealer describes Hynde as someone who “could kick my behind.”

Hynde has done songs about Akron, including “My City Was Gone” with The Pretenders.

    I went back to Ohio
    But my pretty countryside
Had been paved down the middle
By a government that had no pride
    The farms of Ohio
Had been replaced by shopping malls
    And Muzak filled the air
    From Seneca to Cuyahoga falls
Said … way to go Ohio

The people of Akron take the criticism in stride. They know that things are getting paved over. But they don’t see Hynde as an outsider, despite the 40 years of primary residence elsewhere.

At one point, Hynde even tried to get a chain of vegan restaurants going in Akron and other cities in Ohio. Apparently that didn’t work out well.

  • Jeffrey Dahmer’s Childhood Home Marketable, Creepy

Jeffrey Dahmer’s childhood home is on the market if you’re interested in living where something horrific happened and if you’re not too shaken by horror house movies. For example, if the idea of living in the Amityville house sounds cozy, this could be your dream house.

    No thanks.

Actually the unfortunate realtor of the home says it’s really quite nice. He says about half of those who call are not at all interested in the house’s past and tells interested buyers that “this house never killed anyone.”

In fact the house is quite charming with its 1950s style and nice wooded lot. It is on the market for a surprising $295,000 and is in a highly-sought wealthy neighborhood just outside of Akron, Ohio, according to AP.

    Yeah, ok. But…

Jeffrey Dahmer, rapist, murderer, and renowned cannibal, committed his first horrible act of murder there at the age of 18 in 1978. He brought home a hitchhiker, which he then killed and buried in the backyard. He went on to commit 16 more murders (and rape, dismemberment, and subsequent eating) of men and boys until he was captured in 1991, and killed in prison by another inmate in 1994.

These facts, however, don’t seem to bother the current owner who is obviously unshakable. He said, “If you can get past that little problem, you’ll have a wonderful place to live.” He added, “The fact that it was Jeffrey Dahmer’s house was not an attraction. I am not a ghoul. I am not interested in the supernatural.”

There is another downside to owning this house. Those that haunt the outside in the form of ghost hunters, spectators, and even Japanese film crews. Even if you don’t believe in the supernatural, that could be enough to drive off even the most unflappable of buyers. Good luck selling that place.

  • Jeffrey Dahmer’s Childhood Home for Sale

Jeffrey Dahmer’s Childhood Home for Sale

The boyhood home of notorious serial killer and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer is on the market in Northern Ohio for $295,000. The Dahmer family moved into the house in 1968, when Jeffrey was eight. A decade later, Dahmer lured a hitchhiker to the property, killed him, and buried his remains on the wooded lot.

Commenting on the three-bedroom house on a wooded lot in an affluent neighborhood near Akron, present owner Chris Butler stated, “If you can get past that little problem, you’ll have a wonderful place to live.” The home had been previously listed two years ago, but failed to sell. Realtor Rich Lubinski said this was due to a depressed housing market and its macabre past.

Butler bought the house in 2005, and insists he was drawn to the wooded lot, and commented, “The fact that it was Jeffrey Dahmer’s house was not an attraction. I am not a ghoul. I am not interested in the supernatural.”

Here is the trailer for the 2002 Dahmer biopic aptly entitled Dahmer, featuring The Avengers star Jeremy Renner:

Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer, a.k.a the Milwaukee Cannibal, committed the rape, murder and dismemberment of 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. Many of his later killings also involving necrophilia, cannibalism and the permanent preservation of body parts. Upon his capture in 1991, Dahmer was diagnosed with having borderline personality disorder and was deemed fit for trial. He was sentenced to fifteen life terms, and was beaten to death by a fellow inmate at Columbia Correctional Institution in Wisconsin in 1994.

Lubinski has been getting calls daily about the former Dahmer property, and reminds potential buyers that the “house never killed anyone.” Lubinski revealed that about half of the callers don’t care about the home’s history, and the other half are immediately not interested. The realtor added that the property isn’t open for tours. “This is not a museum,” he said.
