  • Dermot Mulroney Scar Explained, ‘Crisis’ Role Examined

In a very detailed interview with actor Dermot Mulroney, one question that came up was in reference to the 50-year-old’s lip scar.

The scar, located below his right nostril, has been a noticeable physical feature since the start of his acting career.

Like any other nosey person, I too have wondered how the scar got there, and it’s rather interesting to hear the story behind it.

“It was a long time ago, so I’ve always had it,” he told the Chicago Sun Times magazine, Splash. “I was 3½ and I was carrying a dish for our pet rabbits. And I tripped and it broke, and I fell on it. I definitely remember that day, even though I was 3 years old. I don’t think about it or see it, but it’s always been there.

The About Schmidt star surely appears to be unashamed of his perfectly imperfect flaw-especially since he never conceals it.

“It certainly has its place on my face, right below my right nostril. That’s where it belongs.”

Mulroney, who is also recognized for last year’s featured roles in New Girl, is currently in Chicago working on the new television drama Crisis.

He adds that filming the series in Chicago brings back fond memories of the movie My Best Friend’s Wedding, which he shot with Julia Roberts in 1997.

“Coming back here to shoot [‘Crisis’], I’ll go by a stairway to an L where I know we shot a scene, or by a nightclub where we filmed. I’m always happening upon these locations that I shot at 16, 17 years ago, and I remember them like it was yesterday.”

The premier episode aired last week for the first time on NBC.

The actor explains that portraying secret service agent Thomas Gibson is quite out of his element, but he still welcomes the idea of exploring a daring and hostile character.

“I’ve finally understood what people mean when they say, ‘The character got under my skin.’ I’m exploring the psychology of a man who has elements in his personality unchecked by conventional thinking. I’ve had some dark thoughts these days.”

Mulroney mentioned that he does, however, admires his character’s intelligence.

“But the thing that most impresses me about Gibson is how truly genius he is. It’s fun to play a character that is vastly more intelligent than I am, to be frank. It made me feel really smart.”

Crisis will air Sundays at 10 p.m. on NBC.

  • Julianna Margulies In Legal Battle

Does life imitate art? For some it does. Julianna Margulies, star of the popular series The Good Wife, in now in the middle of some real-life, heated legal situations herself after having played the prominent, tough-talking attorney known by the stage name of Alicia Florrick.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the former management team behind Julianna is suing based on uncompensated commissions from previous work. Steve Dontanville, her old agent, and Frank Frattaroli are the two main individuals from D/F Management responsible for filing the lawsuit. The suit was filed by Los Angeles attorney, Mathew Rosengart, who is representing the interests of the D/F Management members involved in this case.

Julianna Margulies and Steve Dontanville began working together in 2009. During their time as an agent and star double team, Julianna received several business opportunities. She was selected as the representative for L’Oreal Paris, chosen for The Good Wife, and even received television appearances for ER. The suit claims that these business ventures were made possible due to the efforts of Steve Dontanville where additional unpaid compensations have yet to be divvied to Mr. Dontanville. The famous actress ended her contract with the D/F Management team on April 29, 2011. Why is this suit being filed now instead of back in 2011?

In March of this year, The Good Wife was sold into syndication, promising a hefty allowance for Julianna. Since her previous management team initially signed on for a 10 percent cut, the same team feels that they are still entitled to that cut. In addition to that cut, the firm claims that $420,000 still needs to be paid for other commission dealings.

The suit specifies that commission payment should have flowed in regards to stereotypical Hollywood industry standards where payment policies include, “Ongoing payments following termination for any and all entertainment industry employment secured during the period that the management company was providing management services to the client.”

Lacey Rose from The Hollywood Reporter explained the situation. “It is incredibly rare to have a dispute like this with a star as big as Julianna go to trial. There is potentially millions of dollars on the line for her, and the potential embarrassment that comes with going to trial,” Lacey said.

  • Paula Deen Dumps Her Agent Amid Scandal

    “Mike, why am I out?”

“You’re not a wartime consigliere, Tom.”

When the Corleone family knew that business as usual was going on hold, and a conflict was in the offing, the Godfather made a decision to change things up, taking advice from people better suited for that setting.

Now Paula Deen has parted ways with her agent. For more than ten years, Barry Weiner of New York has helped Deen build an empire that included a Food Network show, books, endorsement deals, and restaurants. Now they have cut business ties.

Deen has given no particular reason for the move.

“Paula Deen has separated from her agent,” Deen’s spokeswoman, Elana Weiss, said in an email Thursday. “She and her family thank him for the tireless effort and dedication over the many years. Paula wishes him well in all future endeavors.”

After all the nasty luck she’s seen in the past two weeks, maybe Paula feels the need to bring in fresh muscle to help get her through the mess. Maybe she blames her former agent for any recommendations that backfired during the attempt to get control of the message, like the Today show appearance and the ill-advised apology videos.

Or perhaps Weiner himself wanted to cut ties. If so, doing it in such a way as to look like Deen dropped him would be a smarter move. It looks like she is working to right the ship, helps her save some face, and leaves the door open for future work together.

Last year, Forbes magazine listed Deen as the fourth-highest-earning celebrity chef, estimating her income for that year alone at $17 million. Her company as a whole rakes in $100 million a year. But even before her lawsuit with Lisa White gets settled, Deen has lost millions due to public perception of her as a racist.

Maybe she will now bring in a heavy-hitter to guide her through the scandal.
