  • Google Makes Some Changes To AdWords Express

Google has updated the AdWords Express app for Android with a new design as well as some adjustments that make it easier to manage your campaigns.

Google launched the AdWords Express mobile app roughly a year ago as a way for small businesses to have more control over their marketing efforts on the go.

Google briefly explains the new changes in a post on Google+:

The AdWords Express Android app has gotten a makeover, so it’s even easier to check your stats and make edits on the go. Clicks, views and calls from your ad are now shown in a single graph right when you open the app. When you make edits to your ad text, the ad preview updates above where you’re typing. Now you can always see what your customers will see.

Looking to show off your business? Reach more customers by advertising through AdWords Express on Android (goo.gl/H9kldd) and iOS (goo.gl/61a3AH).

The app is also available on iOS. It’s unclear if and when similar changes will be made on that version. You can download the Android App from the Google Play Store of course.

  • Google My Business, AdWords Express Apps Get Updates

Google announced some updates to the Google My Business and AdWords Express apps aimed at making it easier for businesses to find the right customers.

With Google My Business for Android, business owners can see reviews from across the web. This is coming to the iOS app soon.

“Business users have told us how much customers appreciate a response, so we are also making it possible to respond to Google reviews in the app, along with real-time alerts if you want to keep a pulse on your reputation online,” Google says.

“Wondering how customers are using their smartphones to get in touch with your business? When people find you on Google, you can see when they call or from where they get driving directions, so you can be prepared for that next manic Monday rush,” the company adds.

The AdWords Express app is being expanded to 20 new countries on Android. This will also occur with iOS soon.

The changes for both apps are rolling out over the coming days.

  • Google Launches AdWords Express Mobile App

Google launched AdWords Express in July of 211, as a way for local businesses to get using AdWords with automatically managed campaigns. Now, three years later, Google has launched a mobile app for the offering on both iOS and Android.

According to Google, 74% of small business owners use mobile devices to help manage their businesses, so the app is overdue to say the least. Google did make improvements to AdWords Express earlier this year to cater to mobile devices.

“AdWords Express has added more control where it counts for defining your target audience,” says engineering director Xuefu Wang. “Now advertisers can choose exactly where to promote their business — in their zip code, city, state or others around the country (currently in English-speaking countries). When customers search from their phone, they can get driving directions, call your business, or visit your website in one tap.”

“When you select your business category, AdWords Express makes sure that customers searching for related topics see your ad,” adds Wang. “To improve the targeting of your ad, products and services that are mentioned on your website can now be added by AdWords Express as keywords if they are related to your ad. We’ve also added more negative keywords to exclude unwanted searches, which improves the click-through rates of ads and means a lower cost for advertisers.”

Google says it has more improvements in store for AdWords Express in the coming months.

The app is available in the App Store and Google Play.

  • Google Redesigns AdWords Express Dashboard

Google has redesigned the dashboard in AdWords Express making it easier to find info you’re probably looking for.

    Here’s a look:

“It’s easy to manage your advertising, even when you’re away from the office,” says product manager Francisco Uribe. “For example, to check how many customers have seen your ad from their tablet (while using your own phone) just look under the “Views” graph.”

“Now you can see more details about how users interact with your website after clicking your ad by linking your Google Analytics and AdWords Express accounts,” he says. “Once you connect your accounts, you’ll see a new card on the AdWords Express dashboard (as well as in your Analytics account).”

The redesign is already live. Google actually announced it on Wednesday, noting that you should see it if you log in.

  • New Google Maps Ads Come With New Click Type

New Google Maps Ads Come With New Click Type

Google announced an updated ad experience for Google Maps on Android, iPhone and iPad today. Ads will now appear at the bottom of the screen when the user searches for something.

The ads include a title, ad text and a link to get directions, and users can swipe up to get more info. Google calls this new click type “Get location details”. The standard CPC charge applies.

“When users click on an ad to get location details, they’ll see additional information such as the business’s address, phone number, photos, reviews and more. From here, there are a number of paid and free click actions they can take,” says Google Maps product manager Salahuddin Choudhary. “Free actions include saving business information for later, sharing a business with a friend, or starting navigation. Aggregated reporting for these free clicks is available in your account.”

Here’s that it looks like before and after the ad is expanded:

“Paid clicks include the initial ‘get location details’ click, get directions, click-to-call and clicks on the ad headline,” says Choudhary. “AdWords will only charge for up to two paid clicks per ad impression. Reporting for these paid clicks can be found by segmenting reports in your account by ‘click type.’”

To take advantage of the new ad style, advertisers have to use location extensions or create ads with AdWords Express.

  • AdWords Express (Formerly Boost) Launched for U.S. Businesses

Google announced the launch of AdWords Express, which was tested with a small number of local businesses under the name Boost last fall.

The product is aimed at local businesses who aren’t already using AdWords. “AdWords Express helps potential customers find your website or Place page, and gives you a quick and straightforward way to connect with them and grow your business,” explains AdWords Express Product Mangager Kiley McEvoy. “You simply provide some basic business information, create your ad, and your campaign is ready to go.”

“After you sign up, the campaign will be automatically managed for you,” continues McEvoy. “AdWords Express will figure out which searches should trigger your ad to appear and displays it when these searches happen. Your ad will be shown in the Ads section of search results pages—on the top or right hand side—and in Google Maps with a distinctive blue pin. Customers can see your ad whether they’re searching on laptops or mobile phones.”

According to the company, AdWords Express automatically optimizes ads to get the most out of the campaign and the budget.

To use the product, the only thing you need is a mailing address, which you can make private. You don’t even need a website, as your Google Place Page can serve as your landing page.
