Trent Harmon Wows Judges on “American Idol” With Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man”

Trent Harmon wowed American Idol judges on Thursday with his rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.” He even brought Jennifer Lopez to tears.

“It’s moments like this [that remind me] why I love Idol and why I’m going to miss it so much,” she said, referencing the show’s current and final 15th season. “It’s been having this front seat to watching the perfect song and the perfect singer sing it at that time.”

“That’s what happened there, and it made me feel like, ‘Damn, I’ve been so lucky the five years I got to be on the show and watch things like that,’” she added of Trent’s performance. “You sang that song so beautifully, and I felt every single word of it. Thank you for giving me one of those moments.”

Harry Connick, Jr. was impressed with Trent Harmon, too.

“You know what would be really fun? To hear a duet between Trent and Adam Lambert,” he said following Harmon’s performance. “There would be, like, glasses breaking everywhere. It would be crazy.”

“It would be a dream come true,” Trent Harmon replied.

Trent Harmon is one of the top five contestants remaining on American Idol.

Do you think he has what it takes to make it to the top?

Might Trent Harmon be the final American Idol?

Adam Lambert On “American Idol” And The Kesha Debacle

Adam Lambert made yet another triumphant return on Thursday’s American Idol.

During the show, Adam Lambert performed “Mad World”, which he also performed on his original appearance.

Adam Lambert said of being back on American Idol, “It’s nostalgic. I’ve been back on the show every year since I’ve been off, and so each year it’s something different. It’s really nice to come back for the final year with a new single and to reprise ‘Mad World,’ which was really cool.”

Adam Lambert also debuted a new song called “Welcome to My Life”, a duet with Swedish singer and frequent Lambert collaborator Lelah.

He said, “I was really touched by her performance. It was so honest, and I think that’s what hit everybody in the heart. She’s such a talented singer.”

He added, “As a fan of the show, I watched it from the beginning, before auditioning. Kelly’s in all of our hearts. She’s an incredible artist.”

Adam Lambert was also asked about a recent visit with his friend, Kesha, who just went through a dirty legal battle against Dr. Luke, a music producer with Sony who she accused of sexual assault.

When asked how she was doing, Adam Lambert said, “From what I know, she’s doing really well. We go way back from when we first both got signed so it was really nice to see her.”

  • Carrie Underwood Is No Longer Top ‘American Idol’ Moneymaker

For the past two years, Carrie Underwood has been the top attraction when it comes to American Idol alums, raking in the most cash of all the former contestants.

But for 2015, that changed. There’s a new top dawg when it comes to American Idol alums.

According to Forbes, season eight runner-up Adam Lambert is the highest-earning Idol star, raking in $10m over the course of the year.

How did he do it? Mostly with touring, apparently. Lambert plays huge shows as the new frontman for Queen. The classic band and Lambert joined forces in 2011, and they set off touring the world in 2014.

Don’t feel too bad for Carrie Underwood, however. She’s still number two with a cool $8m in 2015.

The rest of the top five American Idol alum earners are Daughtry (3), Phillip Phillips (4), Scotty McCreery (5), and Kelly Clarkson (5).

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest recently said he thinks Carrie Underwood is the biggest star to ever come out of the show.

“Kelly [Clarkson] too, but, you know, I was just on New Year’s with Carrie, and she’s just a superstar. She really is. So I take Carrie,” he said.

There’s not much more time to make a new American Idol star. The show it currently airing its final season.

  • Demi Lovato World Tour: Singer Pulls Fast One on Adam Lambert, Why?

Demi Lovato reportedly pulled a fast one on Adam Lambert. Set to tour with Demi Lovato, Lambert’s people were working on last minute details like stage lighting and billing, when the “Cool for the Summer” singer suddenly replaced him with Nick Jonas.

Last week Demi Lovato was supposed to announce her upcoming world tour, but delayed the announcement. Now it’s crystal clear as to why.

It seems Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato are under the same management, and their manager wanted Nick Jonas to go on tour. Therefore, Demi Lovato was “convinced” (do you suppose she was coerced?) into dropping Adam Lambert and picking up Jonas as her opening act.

Adam Lambert feels betrayed–as well he should. TMZ reports that he and Demi Lovato have had words–no doubt angry ones–over the sudden cancellation.

A source for Lambert calls the situation “very unprofessional and unethical.”

Nick Jonas is very popular right now, and it seems his and Demi Lovato’s management team want him out in public while he’s hot. Having him open for Demi Lovato would put him in front of the right kind of crowds.

It will be interesting to learn if Adam Lambert can take legal recourse against Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas’s management team for axing him at the last minute.

Do you think Demi Lovato is simply the scapegoat for this uncomfortable situation? Is it instead her manager who is to blame for replacing Adam Lambert with Nick Jonas for Demi Lovato’s world tour?

  • Sara Gilbert and Wife Linda Perry Welcome Son

Sara Gilbert of The Talk and her wife Linda Perry are the proud parents of a new baby boy. The couple welcomed Rhodes Emilio Gilbert Perry into the world on Saturday.

“Our very own Sara and her wife Linda are the proud parents of a new baby boy and both mother and child are doing well,” The Talk co-host Julie Chen said Monday on the show.

Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry started dating back in 2011 and tied the knot in 2014. Perry is a music producer and the former lead singer of 4 Non Blondes. She has been instrumental in producing hit songs for Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, and Adam Lambert.

Gilbert was best known for her role in the TV sitcom Roseanne, until she became one of the co-hosts of The Talk.

This is the third child for Sara Gilbert, who has a son named Levi, who is 10, and a daughter named Sawyer, who is seven, from a previous relationship.

Sara Gilbert announced on The Talk that she was pregnant, following a request for her to participate in a segment during which she was to ‘face her fears.’ Expected to lie down on a bed of nails, Gilbert had to spill the beans and announce her pregnancy–maybe a bit sooner than she planned to do so.

“I really do believe in facing your fears and doing things that make you uncomfortable, but I actually can’t do the dare because I’m pregnant,” Gilbert said.

How exciting for Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry that they now have their own son to raise. Sara’s kids must be excited to have a new baby brother, too.

  • Adam Lambert Debates Cultural Appropriation

Cultural appropriation is a big deal to some people, but Adam Lambert says that it shouldn’t be.

Almost everyone is guilty of copying the elements or symbols of a culture without being a part of that culture.

Most people do it without thinking twice and do not mean anything negative or disrespectful by it.

Some cultures have complained of being disrespected by the use of their cultural elements and claim that there is a fine line between imitation and stereotyping.

Adam Lambert recently shared his feelings about the topic on twitter and started a debate among his followers.

Some of his followers agreed with him, but others felt that he was not being sensitive enough about the issue.

What do you think of Lambert’s opinion on the matter?

  • Adam Lambert No Freddie Mercury, But Next Best Thing

Adam Lambert, in his new role as front man for Queen, rocked Houston on Wednesday night, during one of the band’s few southern stops on its summer tour. Sources say it didn’t take long for the crowd to warm up to Lambert, whose vocal abilities sold them–if not before–then definitely during his rendition of ‘Somebody to Love.’

Since Freddie Mercury’s passing back in 1991, finding a viable replacement with the vocal talent and similar over-the-top style to fill his larger-than-life shoes has been a difficult task for the band. Adam Lambert likely represents the end to that task. His glitz and glam via multiple costume changes compared to those of Cher–as well as his penchant for leopard print, leather, and fringe–kept the crowd singing along, cheering, and remembering Mercury, who died of HIV/AIDS. Film clips of Mercury’s performances from the 1980s peppered Wednesday’s performance, with Adam Lambert even ceding the vocals of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ to his late, great predecessor. It was plain to see that Lambert had achieved the very delicate balance of leading with his vocals while still honoring Freddie Mercury–and with some of the band’s original fans in the audience–that was no small feat.

Adam Lambert reportedly had more of a ‘practiced showmanship’ style than that of Freddie Mercury, who always kept his feet very firmly planted in the rock genre, but that was probably needed to prevent fans from thinking they were at a tribute show instead of enjoying a revitalized version of the classic rock band.

The night after his Houston performance, Adam Lambert was rocking the crowd in Dallas.

If any Queen fans held off their opinions of Adam Lambert until the encore, then they were sold the minute the young singer returned to the stage. His renditions of ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are the Champions’ left little to no doubt in their minds that he is good–even good enough to do Freddie Mercury proud.

Adam Lambert is no Freddie Mercury. Mercury is irreplaceable in the rock world. But as a singer who can lead Queen into future sold out performances–it sounds like Lambert might just be the next best thing.

  • Adam Lambert to Perform With Queen

Adam Lambert will go on tour with Queen this summer. The band, known for its late lead singer Freddie Mercury and hit songs like Bohemian Rhapsody and Another One Bites the Dust, has been around since 1970. Lambert got to perform with them the first time while he was a contestant on season 8 of American Idol. He wound up as the runner up for that season, losing out to Kris Allen. Lambert has done far more musically than Allen since his loss to him in 2009.

Adam has gotten to know original Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor quite well over the past few years.

The Queen tour will include 19 appearances that will all take place between June 19th and July 20th. They will kick off in Chicago and wind down in Washington, D.C. Lambert was very excited about making the announcement on Thursday morning, and he tweeted about it prior to the big day.

“I’m completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon,” Lambert said during an interview on Thursday. “The thought of sharing the stage for a full set in North America is so beautifully surreal.”

Adam Lambert is also proud to honor Freddie Mercury as he performs the lead vocals the phenomenal singer once sang.

“He’s a personal hero of mine, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band. I know this tour will be a huge milestone for me, and with the support of Brian, Roger and the rest of the band, I feel like magic will be on display,” said Lambert.

With Adam Lambert on tour with Queen, concert ticket sales are likely to sell out quickly. The band flailed for a long time following Mercury’s death and have tried putting different vocalists into his spot. None have had the power or the appeal that Lambert will likely have.

Tickets for the Queen tour featuring Adam Lambert go on sale Friday. See if they’re coming to a city near you.
