  • Michelle Monaghan To Team Up With “Breaking Bad” Star

Michelle Monaghan will reportedly team up with Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul for a new Hulu show called The Way.

Monaghan will play Paul’s wife on the series, which will premiere this winter. According to ComingSoon, the show focuses on “Eddie Cleary, a convert to a controversial movement with a wayward past. He’s a husband and father who suffers a crisis of faith when all that he’s come to accept as truth in his life is fundamentally challenged.” Paul will also executive produce.

The Way is the first television project for Paul since his career-changing role on Breaking Bad; film actress Michelle Monaghan played a part in the hugely successful HBO series True Detective. For fans of either, there’s no doubt that the new series will be highly entertaining.

Monaghan was in the headlines last year after the Nicholas Sparks film she starred in with James Marsden was slammed by critics. The Best Of Me didn’t sit well with Good Morning America’s David Blaustein, who couldn’t find many good things to say about it at all.

“The Best of Me, the latest film to be based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, is so embarrassingly bad, it hurts to write about it. If you consider the bad casting, ham-handed dialogue, obvious digital manipulation of the film, sloppy sound mixing and far-fetched plot points, then you just might be able to enjoy what I believe to be one of the worst movies of the year,” Blaustein said.

Michelle Monaghan shrugged off the bad review, however, and went on to star in the upcoming film Pixels, which will likely be a huge hit for Adam Sandler. The film also stars Ashley Benson, Josh Gad, and Peter Dinklage and will be in theaters everywhere in July.

  • Aaron Paul’s Next TV Gig Is a New Hulu Drama

Aaron Paul’s Next TV Gig Is a New Hulu Drama

No, despite what you may have heard, Aaron Paul is not reprising his role as Jesse Pinkman in a Breaking Bad spinoff. That was just a joke. But the actor is returning to the small screen – on Hulu.

Paul will star opposite Michelle Monaghan in the new Hulu drama The Way, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show, from Parenthood‘s Jason Katims and Jessica Goldberg will “examine a family at the center of a controversial faith-based movement struggling with relationships, marriage and power. Each hourlong episode will take an in-depth look at what it means to choose between the life we live and the life we want.”

You can expect the show to start production this summer and land on Hulu in the winter. There will be 10 episodes in the first season.

    More plot points from THR:

Paul will portray Eddie Cleary, a supportive husband and long-time member of The Way. Having grown up in a troubled blue-collar household, The Way was his way out. Recently returned from a retreat with other members of movement, Eddie is distant and emotionless, distraught from what he witnessed on the trip. His wife (played by Michelle Monaghan) believes he is having an affair, but Eddie is really sneaking off to meet with a still unknown person who claims to know “the truth” about The Way. Doing his best to keep up appearances and continue to lead his family by following The Way’s teachings, Eddie must face a truth that might destroy everything he believes in.

This past weekend, Paul sent the internet wild with speculation when he tweeted about a “top secret” project.

He later took to Periscope to reveal the Jesse Pinkman-focused Breaking Bad spinoff. Of course, that wound up being a joke. A really mean joke, at that.

While The Way won’t assuage heartbroken BB fans, it does have a lot of star power behind it and is a big project for Hulu.

That’s Hulu, not Hulu Plus. Hulu Plus is no more, as Hulu just made the decision to put everything – it’s free and paid subscription services – under the ‘Hulu’ umbrella.

Aaron Paul has also worked with Netflix. The second season of the critical hit BoJack Horseman hits the streaming platform next month.

  • Aaron Paul Launches Yo, BITCH App for Jesse Pinkman-Style Messaging

Yo, the app that totally revolutionized vague messaging, man, by letting users send out the word “Yo” to their friends, was always missing that extra spark. Thankfully, Breaking Bad‘s own Jesse Pinkman has done his part to remedy that.

Aaron Paul has just launched a new iOS app called Yo BITCH (stylized as YB in the App Store because Apple is puritanical like that), It’s a sparse messaging app that lets users send each other various BITCH-dependent greetings and replies – in Aaron Paul’s voice.

With one tap, you can send your friend a Yo, BITCH greeting, or send your wife an I Love You, BITCH. But I’d think long and hard about it first. Wouldn’t want to end up like this poor reviewer:

Yeah, this app is very fun but very dangerous. I downloaded it and thought, “now this is gonna be great! I can send everyone I’ve ever loved a beautiful message!” Sad to say, they did not share my sense of humor nor did they appreciate my deeds. Now, my friends aren’t speaking to me, my relatives have blocked me and my ex boyfriend called the police on me for “harassment”. So, a few hours and 5k of bail money gone, here we are.

Like a big sack of blue sky, it’s recommended that you be extra careful with Yo, BITCH. Sure, it’s fun at first, but soon you’re calling your mom a bitch and buying additional phrase packs. Proceed with caution.

Android users can expect the app within a few months.

  • Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul Gets Over 50,000 Signatures To Keep Toys On Shelves

Aaron Paul has taken the fight to keep Breaking Bad action figures on Toys R Us shelves to everyone’s favorite battleground: Twitter.

A few weeks ago, a Florida Mom named Susan Schrivjer decided that it was inappropriate for Toys R Us to sell action figures based on characters of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad. “It’s about drugs, you’re selling it in a children’s toy store?” She told her local Fox 4 TV Station.

She also started an online petition on Change.org which gained 9,298 signatures. Because of this, Toys R Us pulled the action figures from their shelves, saying they had gone on “an indefinite sabbatical”, according to ABC News.

Aaron Paul would not stand for this.

He’s not wrong. According to Professor of Psychology Aurora M. Sherman of Oregon State University, “Playing with Barbie has an effect on girls’ ideas about their place in the world. It creates a limit on the sense of what’s possible for their future. While it’s not a massive effect, it is a measurable and statistically significant effect.”

Another petition has started on Change.org to keep the action figures on Toys R Us shelves. As of this writing, it now has 57,885 supporters, which is more than six times the number who signed the petition to get rid of the toys.

As for Aaron Paul, he’s currently waiting for a response from Toys R Us:

  • Bryan Cranston And Aaron Paul Star In An Emmy Video

    Scroll down for the video.

Welp, here it is, our two favorite television actors in the last seven years making a little tongue-in-cheek joke about History Channel’s reality TV-show Pawn Stars.

Though they don’t return as their iconic characters – Jesse Pinkman and Walter White – both Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul reunite with their dynamic acting chemistry, and it’s just as good as you’d imagine. Julia Louis-Dreyfus (the third Emmy winner in this little clip) also stars in the skit.

Cranston plays a decked out Elvis-glasses-wearing stereotypical southern business man named Buzz Jackson while Paul works as his saggy overall-wearing trucker hat partner (or son?) Randy Jackson. They both run a business that isn’t so much an illegal empire of manufacturing and distributing blue crystal meth, but instead, a little pawnshop called Barely Legal. Louis-Dreyfus (playing herself), recently made a drunken impulse buy for a private island triggered by Celine Dion envy and needs to drum up some dough by trying to sell her 1996 Emmy (for playing Elaine on Seinfeld) for Best Supporting Actor. Both goofballs, Cranston and Paul, make nods to both the Emmys and Breaking Bad, but we won’t spoil that for you, just watch the damn thing.

The comedic short from Audi sets up for next Monday’s Emmy Awards – it was produced by PMK-BNC and written and directed by Paulilu, the same guys who made the Dollar Shave Club’s viral launch video and last year’s Spock vs. Spock Audi ad starring Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy.

“We knew we had a great concept, a winning team and a client, Audi, who understood the value of this type of content,” says Joseph Assad, executive producer at PMK-BNC. “We flew in face of convention by putting out a video at six minutes, but with the high-caliber acting and the quality of the idea, we knew we could push some boundaries.”

There’s an episode of Pawn Stars where a man named David actually tried selling Ronald Dunbar & General Johnson’s Best Rhythm & Blues Song – 1970 “Patches Grammy Award. David ended up selling the thing for $2,350.

    “Well hello there mamasita.”

  • Aaron Paul’s Xbox One Ad Is Inadvertently Turning on People’s Consoles

The thing about have voice control systems that are always on is, well, they’re always on. If they weren’t, then saying something like “Xbox on!” wouldn’t really do anything.

Apparently, this handy feature is causing some issues for some Xbox One owners. According to multiple reports and a boatload of Twitter confirmations, Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame is inadvertently powering up people’s consoles with his new ad. You know the one, right? Where he begins the ad by demonstrating the Kinect-powered voice controls?

I guess the Xbox One is really always listening, and it’s picking up on that “Xbox on!” command. Take a look:

As many Twitter users have pointed out, this is quite the first world problem. If the worst thing that happens to you today is your Xbox accidentally turns on, you’ve got it pretty good.

I mean, you could be a meth addict that found himself in a situation her could no longer control, being manipulated at every turn by a man who’s basically getting more evil by the second. That would be a rough predicament.

  • Netflix’s BoJack Horseman Has Its Own Geocities-Style Site

Netflix’s BoJack Horseman Has Its Own Geocities-Style Site

Earlier this week, Netflix released a trailer and release date for its upcoming original animated comedy BoJack Horseman. It comes out on August 22nd.

The show stars Will Arnett, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, and Aaron Paul. The description of the show is as follows:

Legendary star of the 1990s family favorite sitcom “Horsin’ Around,” BoJack (Will Arnett) has been trying to find his way through a muddle of self-loathing, whisky and failed relationships. Now, in the presence of his human sidekick Todd (Aaron Paul) and his feline agent and ex-paramour Princess Caroline (Amy Sedaris), BoJack is primed for his comeback and the over 40 million global members of Netflix will be able to chart his progress in excruciatingly real time when all twelve episodes of season one hit the service in mid 2014.

With this in mind, the show’s website makes complete sense. Paul points us to it from Instagram:

Paul writes, “Everyone please meet @BoJackHorsman. He’s an amazing guy and is one of my best friends. He is a washed up 90’s sitcom star from the popular TV series called Horsen Around. He’s going thru some issues at the moment including alcoholism, potty mouth, drugs and having a strange addiction to cotton candy. Learn more about him at bojackhorseman.com. Tune in on August 22nd to check us out in action. You will be VERY happy you did. #BoJackHorseman #NETFLIX #NotForKids.”

  • Mr. Peabody And Sherman Rises To The Top Spot At The Box Office

Aaron Paul’s new action film Need For Speed opened this weekend, but fell short to Mr. Peabody and Sherman, the film that ended up winning this weekend at the box office.

Need For Speed is based on the popular videogame series of the same name, and it certainly attracted some due to Aaron Paul’s appearance, who has gained plenty of popularity over his role as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad.

Perhaps it was simply that more families were going to the theater this weekend, since Mr. Peabody and Sherman was able to dethrone 300: Rise Of An Empire, which had been at the top of the box office last week.

Need For Speed did not stand a chance, even in its opening weekend, and only earned $17.8 million. The total put the film in the No.3 spot, behind the two films that had claimed the top spots last week. The film cost $66 million to make, and luckily with some help outside of the U.S., it was able to at least earn $63.4 million worldwide in the opening weekend.

Dave Hollis, the distribution chief behind Need For Speed, said “It’s a disappointing start on the domestic side, but to open to that number worldwide and nearly match the budget of the film is great. This was a very affordable movie and with many territories left to open, everyone will be just fine.”

On the other hand, the animated film Mr. Peabody And Sherman topped the North American chart with $21.2 million, which gives it a 10-day domestic total of $63.2 million.

The animated family film comes from DreamWorks animation and 20th Century Fox, featuring the voices of Ty Burrell and Max Charles, as Mr. Peabody and Sherman, respectively.

In other box office news, The Grand Budapest Hotel continued to impress with its limited release, and grossed $3.6 million as it expanded from four to 66 theaters in its second weekend. Veronica Mars also opened this past weekend, and with a bit of a niche audience, and only 265 theaters in the United States, it only made $2 million, which had the film tying for 10th place, along with The Mounuments Men.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman came in second place last week, and won fairly easily this week. However, Divergent opens this Friday, and should certainly take the top spot in its opening weekend.

Does anyone think that Mr. Peabody and Sherman will be able to compete with Divergent?

  • Aaron Paul Is Totally Down For “Saul” Appearance

Aaron Paul says he is ready and willing to appear on the “Breaking Bad” spinoff “Better Call Saul”, which premieres in November on AMC.

The actor said recently that he’s spoken with Vince Gilligan, the creator of both shows, about coming back as Jesse Pinkman. The upside to that is, he’ll be doing it in a prequel, so he can further explore Jesse’s past as a small-time drug dealer and maybe even dig deeper into what caused the rift between him and his parents.

“Anything Vince is involved with, I’m there,” Paul said. “I owe him my entire career. And the idea of jumping into the skin of Jesse Pinkman again in his lighter days — because it’s all a prequel — it would be fun.”

Gilligan has already said he wants to bring back some of the characters from “Breaking Bad” to interact with Bob Odenkirk, who will star once more as “criminal” lawyer Saul Goodman. Although Dean Norris (Hank Schrader) has said he’s not interesting in returning, it’s possible we’ll see Bryan Cranston fill Walter White’s shoes again as he hasn’t been ruled out.

“I think that experience was that experience. I’m not a big fan of kind of revisiting something that has already been done. But I think it’s going to be awesome. So I can’t wait to see it,” Norris said.

Paul is currently promoting his new film “Need For Speed” and will be hosting a WWE match in Chicago on March 3.

  • Aaron Paul Hung Out With Bill Murray Last Night

Just because an actor or actress makes it big in Hollywood doesn’t mean they don’t get starstruck sometimes. Look at Jennifer Lawrence; she freaked out when she met Jack Nicholson and Jeff Bridges and stumbled over her admiration for them by babbling adorably. The same can be said for actors who have just come off a huge, enormous, amazing, brilliant show that everyone knows and loves. No matter how big they’ve become, there’s always someone bigger. And that someone is Bill Murray.

Aaron Paul, fresh from his bitter-sweet run on “Breaking Bad”, ran into Murray at a Kings Of Leon concert last night and immediately tweeted about it, because that’s what any normal person would do.

They weren’t alone in the VIP section; Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20 was there, too, and joined the actors for a quick photo.

Paul has a history of bumping into insanely famous people; several years ago, when he was at the Prince of Brunei’s 25th birthday party, he met Michael Jackson.

I was going back up to my room,” he said, “and this guy grabs me and says, ‘Hey, Prince Azim wants to see you in the library.’ So I go down there, and he’s sitting on the couch with Michael Jackson, and me and Michael Jackson end up having this hour-long heart-to-heart about family and upbringings, and I remember, he just put his arm around my shoulder and said, ‘You know, if you’ve had a rough childhood or not, it’s all about forgiveness.”

  • Rumor Has ‘The Dark Tower’ Possibly Going To Netflix

Rumors of a screen adaptation of Stephen King’s epic The Dark Tower series have been swirling for years, so it’s hard to put too much stock into any of them, but new rumors suggest it could become a Netflix series.

AintItCool interviewed Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul at Sundance, who said he’s had “a ton of meetings” including a sit-down with Ron Howard, who is reportedly attached to the project, and is a “huge fan” of Breaking Bad.

Paul is quoted as saying, “I’m excited. Their goal is to do three films, but also have a television element to it, which will be very interesting. From what I hear, Eddie Dean is a pretty epic, iconic character.”

He also said he “definitely will not” turn down the role if it is offered to him.

Paul tweeted back in 2012 that it’s a “huge dream” of his to play Dean, which fans of the series and of Breaking Bad know wouldn’t be too far of a stretch.

So three films and a television element. Could the television element be a Netflix exclusive?

The site SchmoesKnow.com (via Uproxx) cites a source saying, “Ron Howard is going to make this with MRC and Imagine for around 60 million or so. And he’s likely doing this next. There’s going to be a TV series as well since its MRC and I’m thinking it may end up being at Netflix.”

Also, this source says Liam Neeson is interested.

Now, a rumor is a rumor, but there are some interesting things to consider here.

For one, Netflix has already expressed interest in the project. Content chief Ted Sarandos reportedly said last year, “I spoke to Ron about it, actually. The last time we talked about it the thing was being kicked about HBO – but it’s no longer there. Once Arrested Development gets through we’ll keep talking about it.”

MRC (Media Rights Capital) is behind Netflix’s House of Cards. Also, Ron Howard and Imagine entertainment are featured prominently in Netflix’s fourth season of Arrested Development.

Netflix has been clear that it would continue to boost its investment in original content. The company is known to be attracted to niche content with built-in audiences. The Dark Tower would fit the bill for sure.

Worth mentioning is that Breaking Bad is the most popular show on Netflix, and Netflix is known for making content decisions based on what people like. If Paul is in it, many Breaking Bad fans check it out for that reason alone. Paul, by the way (at least his voice), is also set to appear in another Netflix original this year, Bojack Horseman. Netflix has already secured exclusive streaming rights to the upcoming Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul.

Netflix has expressed interest in working with another series involving Ron Howard that could have both movie and television elements. The Dark Tower and Netflix do seem like a perfect match for each other.

  • Aaron Paul Talks About Meeting Michael Jackson

There’s no doubt that “Breaking Bad” actor Aaron Paul is an old time romantic and here’s why: When he got married to his wife Lauren Parsekian, he tracked down the lead singer of the band the Shivers to sing her favorite song, “Beauty.” But not only that, he emailed every person that was attending his wedding and had them learn the song too.

Paul spoke about the romantic gesture in an interview with Details magazine. “I tracked down the lead singer in Brooklyn,” explained Paul. “He’s afraid to fly, so he drove all the way to Malibu. When he got to the song and everybody else joined in, Lauren just started weeping in the most beautiful way ever. It’s all about embracing those moment. Throwing in surprises whenever you can.”

And not only does the 34-year old actor talk about surprising others, he talks about being surprised himself, by none other than Michael Jackson. Paul says he met the King of Pop at the Prince of Brunei’s 25th birthday celebration six years ago.

“I was going back up to my room,” he says, “and this guy grabs me and says, ‘Hey, Prince Azim wants to see you in the library.’ So I go down there, and he’s sitting on the couch with Michael Jackson, and me and Michael Jackson end up having this hour-long heart-to-heart about family and upbringings, and I remember, he just put his arm around my shoulder and said, ‘You know, if you’ve had a rough childhood or not, it’s all about forgiveness.”

In addition, Paul talks about that rough childhood in Emmett, Idaho, and also discusses the many jobs he had before moving to Hollywood and making it big. There’s a good chance we’ll be seeing more of Paul in the coming months, since he’ll be promoting his up and coming film “Exodus,” directed by Ridley Scott, which is supposed to be released later this year.

  • “Breaking Bad” Fan Arrested On Drug Charges

“Breaking Bad” Fan Arrested On Drug Charges

“Breaking Bad” was one of the most popular shows on television when it ended last year, drawing in millions of viewers for the series finale, and fans jumped at the chance to watch the last episode in a California cemetery with some of the cast members. The contest–which was sponsored by actor Aaron Paul–was won by 28-year old Ryan Lee Carroll, who was arrested on Wednesday on several drug charges.

Carroll was arrested with three other men in Florida after police found over $1 million worth of synthetic marijuana in his home, along with thousands of dollars in cash and several weapons. He was charged with felony possession of a synthetic narcotic and possession of a controlled substance along with a misdemeanor charge of keeping a shop or vehicle for dangerous drugs.

Carroll didn’t become a fan of the show until late in the game, but he said it instantly became a favorite.

“If you start watching it, you can’t stop,” he said. “It’s highly addicting, just like the meth they make (on the show).”

Aaron Paul announced the contest on Twitter, and Carroll decided to participate–by donating to Paul’s wife’s charity fund The Kind Campaign–in order to enter the raffle for a chance to watch the finale in L.A. last September. He was contacted by Paul himself when he was chosen as the winner, and flew out to California with a friend to watch the last episode at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

  • Aaron Paul Helped This Guy Propose And It Was Rad

Aaron Paul can probably pick any project he wants to do from now until the end of eternity after his award-winning, heartbreaking performance on “Breaking Bad”, but that doesn’t stop him from doing completely rad things for random people.

Paul decided to help young Jason in his efforts to propose to his girlfriend, Jackie, and the result is adorable and funny. Jason chose a song by Mr. Big to play in a surprise concert for Jackie–the song is something of an inside joke for the couple–and asked Paul to record a little message for her since he’s her favorite actor. The video shows the preparation for the show–which included Jason calling Jackie’ father to ask for his blessing–and shows a split screen so we can watch Jackie’s reaction to what she’s seeing.

Check out the surprise below and try not to cry. Spoiler alert: she says yes, because who could say no to Aaron Paul?!

  • Breaking Bad Snags Multiple Golden Globe Nominations

Breaking Bad just finished its five-year run, and as one of the most popular television shows of all time, it is no wonder that the show received all of the television nominations that it could get at the Golden Globe Awards. The fan favorite aired on AMC, and it is the only show from the channel that also includes hit shows The Wakling Dead and Mad Men, to get a nomination.

The Golden Globes have several surprises in terms of shows that are nominated this year, although everyone knew that Breaking Bad would come up big when the Golden Globe nominations were announced. Breaking Bad was very popular in its final season especially, after all of its fans were able to catch up, and had one of the best series finales in history.

The nominations were announced this morning for the show that honors the top performers in both film and television. The full list of nominees can be seen here, with Breaking Bad leading the pack, along with The Big Bang Theory, and the Netflix original, House Of Cards.

With the success of House Of Cards, among others, Neflix was able to earn six nominations for this year’s award show, second to only HBO, which tends to dominated TV cateogries.

Breaking Bad also came away with similar results when it came to the nominations at the SAG Awards, which were released yesterday. 30 Rock is also a big contender this year, despite only airing a few of its episode this year.

In terms of films at this year’s Golden Globes, American Hustle and 12 Years A Slave will be leading the way with seven nominations each.

Breaking Bad features an outstanding cast that was also nominated for the Best Ensemble category in the SAG Awards, and the show received Golden Globe nominations for Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, and Best Television Series-Drama. Coming off of the success of Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul also recently got a new gig accompanying a talking horse in an animated Netflix original show called BoJack Horseman.

While it is nominated for everything else, the surprising snub for the show is the fact that Anna Gunn, who played Skylar White, was not nominated for her performance. One of the other biggest snubs is certainly completely leaving out both HBO hit Game of Thrones and Showtime’s Homeland.

It is no surprise that Breaking Bad has snagged more nominations than other television show after becoming Netflix’s most popular show, being ranked far ahead of its original shows House Of Cards, and Orange Is The New Black, which was surprisingly left out of the Golden Globes ceremony in the Best Television Series-Drama category.

Breaking Bad leads the pack of television shows, in a very competitive year that saw Netflix change the way people watch television more than before with its own original shows. Tune in on Sunday, January 12th in order to see who will win.

  • Breaking Bad Star Aaron Paul Gets a New Series

Well, that didn’t take long. Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul has landed a new series. The new series, which will be on Netflix, is called BoJack Horseman: A Tale of Fear, Loathing and Animals and will be animated. Aside from Paul, the series will also feature the voices of Will Arnett and Amy Sedaris.

According to Netflix’s announcement of the series, BoJack Horseman will follow former TV star BoJack as he tries to get through “a muddle of self-loathing, whiskey, and failed relationships.”

The series is set to premiere in mid-2014 and will have 12 episodes. The show was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, a writer and actor known for his work on The Exquisite Corpse Project. According to Variety, Arnett will do the voice of whiskey-drinking horse BoJack and Paul does the voice of BoJack’s sidekick.

“Even though he’s been out to pasture, I’ve always admired BoJack for his inimitable style and can-do attitude,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said. “I couldn’t be more thrilled that he’s getting off his legendary haunches to join the Internet TV revolution here on Netflix.”

Check out a photo Netflix posted of BoJack on Twitter below:

Even though Breaking Bad fans won’t get to see Aaron Paul, there’s no doubt they’ll love hearing the voice behind Jesse Pinkman again–especially if the show’s director will let Paul’s character Todd slip in a “bitch!” once in a while.

In other Breaking Bad news, it was announced today that the popular show has received three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Bryan Cranston, who played meth kingpin Walter White, is up for best actor in a drama series; Anna Gunn, who plays Walter’s wife Skyler, is up for best actress in a drama series; and Breaking Bad received a nomination for best drama ensemble.

  • ‘Breaking Bad’ Star Aaron Paul Gets Animated

Aaron Paul just completed the role of a lifetime with his portrayal of Jesse Pinkman on the hit television series “Breaking Bad.” Now it looks like the young actor is doing a 180 degree turn from the violent, cruel, crime-filled world of “Bad” and has signed on with an animated series.

Paul will join Will Arnett and Amy Sedaris in the Netflix animated comedy series “Bojack Horseman, A Tale of Fear, Loathing and Animals.” Ted Sarandos from Netflix describes what audiences can expect from the 12-episode series. “Bojack Horseman’ is a brutally funny and unique take on what can happen after pop stardom. Raphael [Bob-Waksberg, series creator] has created an amazing set of characters voiced by some of the best comics and actors in the world.”

The 34 year old actor is set to voice a character named Todd, who is Bojack’s human sidekick. The irony of Paul playing a guy named Todd will not be lost on “Breaking Bad” fans.

No exact release date for the series has been set. However, television audiences around the world can expect to see the show on Netflix sometime in mid-2014. In the meantime, you can check out the actor on the big screen. Paul has three films currently in post production: “A Long Way Down,” which is an adaptation of the best-selling Nick Hornby novel of the same name, “Need for Speed,” will feature Paul in the lead role as a speed racer, and finally “Hellion” where Paul will take a turn at playing an absentee father.

Netflix just announced another new show for 2014. This one is an animated comedy called BoJack Horseman, and stars Will Arnett (of Arrested Development) and Aaron Paul (of Breaking Bad).

    Here’s the premise:

Legendary star of the 1990s family favorite sitcom “Horsin’ Around,” BoJack (Will Arnett) has been trying to find his way through a muddle of self-loathing, whisky and failed relationships. Now, in the presence of his human sidekick Todd (Aaron Paul) and his feline agent and ex-paramour Princess Caroline (Amy Sedaris), BoJack is primed for his comeback and the over 40 million global members of Netflix will be able to chart his progress in excruciatingly real time when all twelve episodes of season one hit the service in mid 2014.

The show was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, and will be executive produced by him along with Steven A. Cohen and Noel Bright, as well as Arnett and Paul. It’s being produced by produced by Michael Eisner’s Tornante Company.

BoJack himself (pictured) was designed by graphic artist Lisa Hanawalt and will be animated by LA-based ShadowMachine.

“Even though he’s been out to pasture, I’ve always admired BoJack for his inimitable style and can-do attitude,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “I couldn’t be more thrilled that he’s getting off his legendary haunches to join the Internet TV revolution here on Netflix.”

“As a studio executive involved in successful sitcoms like Happy Days, Barney Miller and Cheers, I always regretted BoJack wasn’t on my team,” Michael Eisner added. “But now, with Tornante in the saddle, BoJack is exactly where he belongs, in full creative control, and on Netflix.”

This ought to be a fun one.

  • Breaking Bad Finishes Strong, Sets Ratings Record

Breaking Bad fans really tuned in for the series finale of the popular drama, giving it a record number of viewers. Breaking Bad has been one of the most popular shows in the last five years and has some very dedicated fans as well. The series tells the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a former high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with cancer. As a way to pay for treatments, he turns to cooking meth and soon forms a partnership with Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), as they work together to make millions and continually work to avoid the DEA.

The show ended a five year run on AMC last night, and in order to heat up the intensity of the show, the fifth season was even split into two parts. While the show normally had 13 episodes per season, the fifth season was given 16 episodes and was split up over two summers. It even gained enough popularity over its run to get a spin-off featuring the show’s dirty lawyer, Saul Goodman, and will be called Better Caul Saul.

It certainly went out with a bang, and could not have ended any better. The series gained 10.3 million viewers for the final episode, which was by far the most watched episode in the show’s five year run, according to The Washington Post. This was also much more than the numbers generated for the season five part 1 finale, which only had 2.3 million viewers. These numbers also do not count for the people who DVR the show, or watch it online, which would likely raise the numbers much higher. These numbers also make it the third highest series finale of all time on a cable network, behind The Sopranos and Sex and The City.

There were 1.2 million tweets about Breaking Bad last night, the most for any show last week. This is big news for cable television and for dramas that continue to attract a large audience of dedicated fans. Breaking Bad is a show like no other and has been hailed by many critics and cited by fans as one of the greatest shows of all time. While this show is immensely popular now, it has taken a while for some people to get into it and Netflix has been a big help for that, as people recently have begun to binge watch for certain shows, Breaking Bad especially. Entertainment Weekly mentions that Breaking Bad sounded like an epic downer. Many needed to have a friend, or several friends, persuade them to give the show a chance.

If you have not seen the finale, or have not begun the series, it is highly advisable that you do so. It gets addicting very quickly, and you will not want to stop. You have been warned.
