  • ‘Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel’ Coming This Fall

Despite developing games such as Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens: Colonial Marines, Gearbox has cultivated a prized place in gamer hearts through its Borderlands games. Borderlands 2 was one of 2012’s most popular games and has been featured in numerous bundles and deals throughout the past two years. Most recently the game is set to appear on Sony’s PS Vita.

This week 2K Games and Gearbox officially announced the next game in the Borderlands series. Titled Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the title will give players a bit more back story into just what was going on in Borderlands 2.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be released this fall for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. No PlayStation 4 or Xbox One releases have yet been announced and 2K.

The Pre-Sequel is set in the time between Borderlands and Borderlands 2. Players will explore the moon, named Elpis, orbiting the planet Pandora (the setting of the other two Borderlands games) and fill in multiple story gaps.

Players will step into the shoes of one of four new playable characters recognizable from the previous Borderlands games. There’s Athena (“The Gladiator”), Wilhelm (“The Enforcer”), Nisha (“The Lawbringer”), and Claptrap. Yes, the Claptrap will be a playable character in The Pre-Sequel.

The game’s story revolves around Handsome Jack, the villain of Borderlands 2. As players fight with and for Handsome Jack they will witness the character transform into the hilarious, evil egomaniac that he is known as in the previous game.

Being a Borderlands game, The Pre-Sequel will feature all the co-op shooting action seen in the previous games. New enemies and new weapons will, of course, be part of the game. Entirely new weapons types and elemental damage types have been announced. Laser-based weapons and freezing “Cryo” weapons are just two of those.

In addition to the expansion elements from previous games, The Pre-Sequel will feature a nifty new play mechanic. Being set on a moon, players will experience a lesser gravitational pull. This means greater mobility and even huge double-jumps enabled by oxygen-powered jetpacks.

  • Final ‘BioShock Infinite’ DLC Out Today

Final ‘BioShock Infinite’ DLC Out Today

2K and Irrational Games today released the final DLC installment for BioShock Infinite. The content is the second episode of the Burial at Sea story DLC and wraps up the dimension-spanning tale of BioShock Infinite.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode Two continues right where Burial at Sea – Episode One left off. The DLC puts players back into Rapture, the underwater city first introduced in the first BioShock game. The content mixes character made famous in that first game with the protagonists from BioShock Infinite in a swirled mix of alternate history and science fiction.

In Episode Two players will take on the role of Elizabeth, as she desperately attempts to save a little sister named Sally. A few glimpses of what the finale might hold were released today via a launch trailer for the DLC:

“I think the work the team did on this final chapter speaks for itself,” said Ken Levine, creative director at Irrational Games. “We built something that is larger in scope and length, and at the same time put the player in Elizabeth’s shoes. This required overhauling the experience to make the player see the world and approach problems as Elizabeth would: leveraging stealth, mechanical insight, new weapons and tactics. The inclusion of a separate 1998 Mode demands the player complete the experience without any lethal action. BioShock fans are going to plotz.”

This final story for BioShock Infinite may also wrap up the entire BioShock franchise. Last month Irrational Games announced that it would be shutting its doors for good.

Instead of leading the large studio, Levine has taken less than two dozen former Irrational employees and founding a “smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two.” The team that Levine has created will be making smaller titles for a core gaming audience, suggesting that the spectacle that was the BioShock franchise may now be a thing of the past.

  • ‘Grand Theft Auto Online’ Update to Bring Flashy Cars, Suits

After a rough start Grand Theft Auto Online seems to have settled in to the community-centered experience Rockstar was envisioning. The developer is now issuing almost weekly content updates for the title, enhancing the game with new vehicles, weapons, and clothing that carry over even into the single-player Grand Theft Auto V experience. The game is just wrapping up its limited-time “Valentine’s Day Massacre” in-game event.

Today Rockstar detailed its latest update for GTA Online. Titled “The Business Update” the content in the add-on seems to be geared toward players who that have lifted characters off the street and consider their criminal enterprises to be a bit more legitimate. The add-on will roll out to both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 console next Tuesday, March 4.

The main additions coming with the Business Update are the vehicles. Three new flashy sports cars will be added to the game: the “Albany Alpha,” the “Dinka Jester,” and the “Grotti Turismo R.” An equally flashy airplane will be included as well, the “Vestra,” a small passenger jet.

As with every GTA Online update, the Business Update will include plenty of new clothing for players to try on. The new clothing mostly sticks with the update’s business theme, though there are some new masks too. Suit jackets, high heels, and new glasses are the aesthetic highlights. Players will also be able to give their characters some new business-appropriate hairstyles or what Rockstar is calling “currency-themed” tattoos.

Though not particularly business-themed, two new weapons will also make their way into GTA Online through this next update: the “Heavy Pistol” and the “Special Carbine.”

  • ‘GTA Online’ Valentine’s Day Massacre Update Announced

Rockstar corrected an economy-breaking Grand Theft Auto Online exploit back in January and has now returned to what it should be doing – developing more content for GTA multiplayer.

The developer today announced that the next GTA Online content update is coming this Friday. The new content is styled after a romanticized version of 1920s gangsters, inspired by the Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre.

The “Valentine’s Day massacre Special” update is free and comes with a variety of new content. Everything added in the update will be available for purchase (with in-game cash) in GTA Online only for a limited time. Anything bought during the event, however, can be kept permanently in player inventories.

New character clothing is, of course, coming in the update. This includes pinstripe suits, flapper dresses, and masquerade masks that players can dress their characters in, along with a new hairstyle for female characters.

A new gun and vehicle will also be added on Friday. The “Gusenberg Sweeper” weapon provides a callback to the Tommy gun so inextricably linked to gangster lore while the “Albany Roosevelt” vehicle give players an armored 1920s-style limo to show off.

In addition to the items, the Valentine’s Day Massacre update brings with it 10 new jobs for players to compete in. The new jobs include multiple deathmatches, a parachute jump, and multiple races using cars, boats, and bicycles.

  • New ‘Evolve’ Trailer Previews Laser Guns, Massive Monsters

One month ago 2K Games and Turtle Rock Studios officially announced Evolve, a cooperative/competitive multiplayer shooter that combines elements of the Left 4 Dead and Monster Hunter games. The concept puts four players in control of a team of human hunters tracking down massive monsters. The twist is that each monster is controlled by another player, potentially making Evolve that much more challenging.

Today 2K released a cinematic preview for Evolve, showing off the various weapons and characters players may be able to choose from in the game. Laser gatling guns, a sniper rifles, harpoons, and some sort of electricity-firing weapons appear to be coming to Evolve. Of course, one of the game’s monsters is also previewed, complete with a fire breath attack:

Evolve has no set release date yet, but 2K insists the game will be coming sometime this fall. The game is set for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

  • Bethesda, 2K Team Up To Offer Bundles Of Their Best-Selling Games

Over the last few years, 2K Games and Bethesda have become two of the biggest publishers in gaming with hits like BioShock Infinite and Borderlands 2. Now the two publishers are combining their power to offer bundles that feature their best selling games for those who never got around to them.

2K Games and Bethesda announced this morning that it will be releasing two bundles on Xbox 360 and PS3 today. The first includes Borderlands 2 and Dishonored while the second features Skyrim and BioShock Infinite. As an added bonus, the PS3 version of the Skyrim and BioShock Infinite bundle also includes the original BioShock.

Both publishers are quick to point out that these four games are often cited as being games of a generation. In other words, they feel that these are the games people will look back on as the crowing achievement in game design on the Xbox 360 and PS3. It also probably means that you’ve already played them.

“When you think of the best games of the modern era, you think of Skyrim, BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, and Dishonored,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Combined, these four instant classics have sold tens of millions of copies worldwide, and have been recognized by hundreds of critics as the best in the industry, and now 2K and Bethesda Softworks are offering these games at an incredible value.”

If you’ve not yet had the chance to play these games, 2K and Bethesda really hope you do. It would seem the focus of this joint endeavor is to gain new fans while wringing out the last bit of value found in these titles.

“Not only have these games been critical successes, but they have also won the hearts of gamers everywhere,” added Vlatko Andonov, President, Bethesda Softworks. “Each of these games has an extraordinarily passionate fan base and we look forward to seeing those grow even larger as more people get to explore these fully-realized worlds.”

Both bundles are available today on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for $30 each. The bundles include only the base game so you’ll have to buy all the DLC that’s been released for all four titles.

  • ‘BioShock Infinite’ DLC Coming March 25

Just last week 2K released a new preview for its upcoming BioShock Infinite DLC. The preview teased returning BioShock characters and a new, intriguing situation but was light on the details when it came to the content’s release. Today that oversight has been remedied.

2K today announced that BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea episode two will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on March 25. The content will be available for $15 or as part of the BioShock Infinite DLC season pass.

Of course, March is the worst possible month for gamers to have more content announced for. The month is already packed with South Park: The Stick of Truth, Dark Souls 2, TitanFall, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Infamous: Second Son, and a few other great-looking niche games. It might be easy for gamers to forget the second half of the Burial at Sea story in the midst of such a big month for gaming, especially given the lackluster reception of the first half of the story.

Even so, BioShock fans who paid up for the season pass will get the conclusion to Burial at Sea and get the opportunity to spend even more time in rapture. 2K is promising that the new DLC will involve aspects from both BioShock and BioShock Infinite, providing a piece of fan service worthy of the BioShock series’ twisted storyline.

“In Burial at Sea episode two, we are delivering a story that involves nearly every major character from the original BioShock and BioShock Infinite,” said Ken Levine, creative director of Irrational Games. “It is a story that will give gamers a new perspective on the BioShock universe and conclude the story of BioShock Infinite and Burial at Sea.”

  • New ‘BioShock Infinite’ DLC Previewed

It has been nearly one year since the release of BioShock Infinite. Since that time the game has received numerous mentions on game-of-the-year lists and just this month was one of the free games features through Sony’s PlayStation Plus service.

Back in November, around the time new consoles and big annual titles were making their debut, 2K released Burial at Sea episode 1. The content was the first real story DLC for BioShock Infinite and brought players back to the undersea world of Rapture seen in the original BioShock.

Fans of the game have been waiting months for the second installment of Burial at Sea, and 2K today released a new video to tease them. The video shows a cut scene from the second episode, depicting both Elizabeth and Atlus in a BioShock mash-up packed with fan service:

In episode two of Burial at Sea players will take on the role of Elizabeth as she tracks down a little sister named Sally. The DLC features new areas of Rapture for players to explore and, according to the video, should be out “soon.”

  • ‘Evolve’ Previewed, Pre-order Bonus Announced

Publisher 2K had a big year in 2013, with BioShock Infinite wining plenty of year-end rewards and Grand Theft Auto V breaking game sales records near the end of summer. It now appears that the publisher is hoping to carry this momentum into the next console generation with a fresh take on the console competitive/co-op multiplayer landscape.

Game Informer last week revealed Evolve, the long-rumored title from Turtle Rock Studios, the developer behind the original Left 4 Dead. Today 2K Turtle Rock officially announced Evolve, a multiplayer shooter with a Monster Hunter-like twist.

Players will team up into groups of four and face off against a powerful monster. Players can choose from a variety of classes that have different abilities. The monster will be controlled by another player whose task is to become more powerful and destroy the team of adventurers.

“Our philosophy is to build incredibly fun game experiences that we can’t find anywhere else,” said Chris Ashton, co-founder of Turtle Rock Studios. “Evolve’s co-op vs. lone wolf formula has created some of the most intense multiplayer matches we’ve ever experienced.”

Evolve will be out sometime this fall for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Though the release date has not been pinned down, pre-orders for the game are already available. 2K has also announced that pre-orders for the game will come with a “Monster Expansion Pack,” which comes with a new monster character and a skin for the already-announced Goliath monster.

  • ‘Grand Theft Auto Online’ Gets New Capture Jobs

Grand Theft Auto Online is finally functioning and developer Rockstar is now rolling out content for the game with surprising speed. In addition to the “Beach Bum” content add-on and the roll-out of the job creation tools last week, Rockstar this week released its new “Capture” mode jobs. The content is coming in an update today, which also includes some bug fixes and what Rockstar is calling “dynamic tuning updates,” which slightly changes payouts from jobs and prevents players from reaching the North Yankton area via an exploit.

The new update adds “Capture,” a set of team-based jobs based on capture-the-flag style gameplay. The mode has been split into four different job types that are all available in Freemode.

The “Raid” job type is most like a classic capture-the-flag match, with teams competing to steal packages from each others’ bases. Two “Raid” jobs have been added to the GTA Online map, on in Vespucci Beach and another in Fort Zancudo Air Base. The air base “Raid” job does include the use of military vehicles.

The “Contend” job type is a slight variation of “Raid” in which players compete over a single package. The one “Contend” job rolling out with the update today is called “Salty Snatch” and has teams fighting over a package on the Chumash Beach pier.

The “Hold” job type has players collecting packages throughout an area and bringing them back to a base. Packages can then be stolen from bases by other teams. The one instance of this job is currently located in Chamberlain Hills, where four teams can compete over eight packages.

The “GTA” job type sees players finding different vehicles and returning them to a base. The “My Malibatsu” job has players take cars from the Malibatsu Factory, while the “Field of Screams” job has players fighting over one Fieldmaster tractor far out in Blaine County.

  • ‘Grand Theft Auto: Online’ Job Creation Tools Released

Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar today announced that the long-awaited job creation tools for Grand Theft Auto: Online have finally been released. The “Deathmatch & Race Creators Beta” has been pushed out in the latest GTA: Online update for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The new tools will allow players to design their own in-game jobs for a handful of game modes, including deathmatch, team deathmatch, race, GTA race, and rally race. Created jobs can be shared with other GTA: Online players, and Rockstar has stated it will take the best creations and slap a “Rockstar Verified” label on them and promote them to the community.

When creating deathmatch jobs, players will be able to choose the location of the fight and spawn points, as well as fine tune the customizable weapons and vehicles that can be found during the match. Other objects such as ramps can also be placed into the match to make things more interesting.

For race jobs, players will be able to create races on land, in the water, or through the air. Creators can set the vehicle class for races and then set a course across any part of the Grand Theft Auto V map. As in deathmatch creation various objects will be available for creators to populate their race with, including stunt jumps.

Labeling the tools as being in beta is probably a good way to temper the expectations of players who were burned by the buggy launch of GTA: Online. Rockstar is still pushing out incremental fixes for the game. Today’s update also includes a few fixes, including increased in-game money for higher difficulty missions and the ability to run inside player housing.

  • ‘GTA Online’ Update Brings Match Creation, Capture Mode Previewed

Grand Theft Auto Online has had a hard time finding its feet, but developer Rockstar is slowly getting the online mode for Grand Theft Auto V into a playable (and hopefully fun) state.

Today Rockstar announced that the long-promised game mode creation tools will be released in beta form this week. Players will be able to use a “Deathmatch & Race Creators Beta” to make their own jobs for deathmatch, team deathmatch, race, GTA Race, and Rally Race modes. Other players will then be able to play those created jobs and share them again through the Rockstar Games Social Club. The beta will be coming out with the GTA Online update that will begin rolling out on December 10.

The new content creator may end up being just the crowd-sourced solution that the content-starved GTA Online needs. Rockstar has promised to take the best of user-created games and feature them as “Rockstar Verified Jobs” that will be shared with everyone playing GTA Online.

In addition to the new creation tools, Rockstar today teased a brand new game mode for GTA Online. The new mode, called “Capture” is a capture the flag-type mode that pits teams against each other with the objective to steal vehicles or packages from each other. Up to four squads will be able to play at one time, working together to infiltrate enemy territory and put those heist skills to work. The mode will be available in four sub-modes – raid, contend, hold, and GTA.

Capture mode will not be coming with this week’s update, but Rockstar has teased that it will be coming by the end of the year. Looking further into the future, the developer is also now teasing full cooperative heists for GTA Online, as well as expansions for the single-player GTA V.

  • First ‘Grand Theft Auto Online’ Add-on Coming on November 19

With Rockstar now claiming that Grand Theft Auto Online is fixed and players rolling in cash from the recent stimulus package, the stage is finally set for more content to come to the game.

Rockstar today announced that the “Beach Bum” update for GTA Online will be launching on November 19. The update will be free and will automatically download along with the 1.06 update for the game. Though this update seems to be just an expansion of existing content, Rockstar has promised that future updates will include a “Capture the Flag” job mode and fully-cooperative heists for players to complete.

The new content will feature a variety of new weapons, vehicles, jobs, and customization options for players.

The two new weapons are an SNS Pistol and a broken bottle. Both of the new weapons can be obtained for free at in-game gun stores and players will also automatically receive them for their characters in Grand Theft Auto V.

The new vehicles include a dune buggy, off-road truck, camper, and the “Speeder” speedboat. The new vehicles also cost nothing and can be accessed through the in-game web browser. In GTA V players will have to use their marina or garage to access the new vehicles.

The new jobs aren’t actually new game modes, but are beach-themed takes on existing modes. Rockstar is adding one new race, survival, parachuting, team deathmatch, and bike race jobs each.

The new customization options are also in-line with the beach bum theme, with flip-flops, board shorts, and tribal tattoos that will soon be available.

  • ‘BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea’ Episode One Out Today, Launch Trailer Released

Nearly eight months after the release of BioShock Infinite, 2K and Irrational Games have released the first campaign DLC for the game. Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea part one is now available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Players will once again take on the role of Booker DeWitt, though this time they will navigate the underwater city of Rapture. In the noir style, DeWitt is now a private eye who is hired by a sultry, mysterious woman named Elizabeth. In a parallel to the full BioShock Infinite game, DeWitt sets off in search of a girl with many questions still unanswered.

For anyone who’s still unsure about the content, 2K today also released a launch trailer for Burial at Sea. The preview suggests that the add-on will bring back at least some of the characters and extra-creepy elements that made Rapture such a memorable setting:

  • ‘Grand Theft Auto Online’ Stimulus Package Rolling Out Now

A little over a week after Grand Theft Auto Online launched, it became clear to developer Rockstar that it had bitten off far more than it could chew. The launch of Grand Theft Auto V‘s multiplayer component was plagued with clogged servers and glitches from the moment it went live, and in mid-October Rockstar promised players $500,000 of free in-game cash as an incentive to stick around while the game was being fixed.

After over a month of players complaining of lost cash, progress, and characters, Rockstar earlier this week released a patch for GTA Online that has supposedly gotten the game in working order. With that out of the way, the developer has finally made good on its “stimulus package” promise.

The first $500,000 deposits have now begun rolling out to in-game player bank accounts. Any GTA Online player who played the game during October is eligible for the money. Rockstar predicts that it will take up to two days for all players to receive their cash.

The stimulus package can be seen as Rockstar’s apology for the issues that plagued GTA Online during its launch month. Over on its newswire, Rockstar thanked the GTA fans that have stuck with the game through its messy launch:

Thanks go out to everyone for their continued patience and understanding while we worked through these issues, and we can’t wait to bring more into the world of GTA Online. On that note, stay tuned for more details on the Beach Bum update soon along with upcoming Social Club event announcements and more here at the Newswire.

The “Beach Bum” update is expected to hit GTA Online sometime this month.

  • GTA Online to Get First Add-On in November

Though fans of the game are still complaining about game-ruining glitches, developer Rockstar seems to have gotten Grand Theft Auto Online into playable shape. This after weeks of upset gamers who experienced missing characters, in-game money, and vehicles (or were simply unable to play) shortly after the launch of Grand Theft Auto V‘s multiplayer mode.

With most of the game’s troubles now in the past, Rockstar has finally turned to addressing the future of GTA Online. In an update today, the developer revealed that the first add-on pack for GTA Online will be coming sometime in “early November.” The content, titled “the Beach Bum Pack,” will include new weapons, vehicles, and customization options for player characters. The new items will also be available for players to use in the game’s single-player mode. In addition, the DLC will come with “lots” of new job for players to get into, including new gang attacks, parachutes, deathmatches, and races.

Apart from the add-on Rockstar also announced that the “first part” of the promised GTA Online content creator tools will be coming sometime this fall. The tools will allow players to create their own deathmatch or race jobs for others to play, and Rockstar will be putting a “Rockstar Verified” seal of approval on a few of the better ones.

Those “Rockstar Verified” maps could be used in the developer’s social club events for GTA Online, which will begin sometime in November.

Rockstar also mentioned in the update that the promised “stimulus package” of $500,000 in-game cash per player should begin sometime next week, after another update to the game is released. The update is meant to fix lingering glitches causing some players to lose their in-game progress.

  • First ‘BioShock Infinite’ Campaign DLC Out November 12

When BioShock Infinite released earlier this year, publisher 2K Games also began selling season passes for upcoming DLC for the title. Fans waited months before a stop-gap challenge map pack DLC was released. The first DLC may have been disappointing to BioShock fans, but 2K also used that occasion to tease what players really wanted – a new story-based campaign, complete with a nostalgic return to Rapture.

Today 2K finally revealed that gamers have less than one month until they can dive into the Burial at Sea DLC. The first of two episodes in the Burial at Sea story will appear on consoles and PC on November 12. The episode will cost $15 by itself, or gamers can get it as part of the BioShock Infinite Season pass, which costs $20 and will come with the eventual second episode of Burial at Sea, in addition to the Clash in the Clouds challenge maps.

The new content will take players back to Rapture, though a semi-functioning Rapture as it was before the events depicted in the original BioShock. Booker and Elizabeth from BioShock Infinite will be back, though their roles will be significantly different from those in the full game. The story has been teased as a noir-style mystery, with Booker now a private dick and Elizabeth the sultry woman who comes wandering into his office with an odd request. 2K teased in today’s announcement that the second episode of the story might take place from Elizabeth’s point of view, with an emphasis on stealth.

“This is a love letter to the fans, but it’s also the beginning of a story that will give gamers a new perspective on the BioShock universe,” said Ken Levine, creative director at Irrational Games. “With Burial at Sea, we built a Rapture not from BioShock and BioShock Infinite scraps and pieces, but with environments almost entirely crafted from scratch.”

  • Borderlands 2 Declares Itself Game of the Year in New Video

We’re nearing the holiday season and publishers are beginning to wring the last few sales out of recent big game releases. Already The Elder Scrolls Anthology and Dishonored: Game of the Year Edition are tempting collectors and gamers shrewd enough to wait a year to buy games and their add-on content at a lower price.

Now 2K Games and Gearbox have done the same with Borderlands 2. The Borderlands 2 Game of the Year Edition was released this week enticing gamers with more loot than ever.

Sure, declaring a title “Game of the Year” in October is pretentious, but Gearbox has done an admirable job of supporting the game for over one year now. The new collection includes an impressive amount of content that was released post-launch, including all four DLC campaigns, the two added character classes, and a whole host of skins, upgrades, and add-ons, including a “Golden Key.”

The new “Celebration” video for the self-declaration does a good job of highlighting all the best parts of Borderlands 2 and its DLC, while providing a bit more Claptrap Schadenfreude:

  • See a Functioning Rapture in New BioShock DLC Clip

Though BioShock games can certainly be fun to play, the titles are lauded more for their story than their first-person-shooting. The two episodes of BioShock Infinite‘s Burial at Sea DLC, then, are much more anticipated than the already-released Clash in the Clouds.

The story DLC will take player back to Rapture, the setting of BioShock and BioShock 2. A teaser mockumentary released last week shows that the characters may play just as big of a part in Rapture as they did in Columbia.

Irrational and 2K today released a five-minute, un-cut look at the beginning of the first episode of the DLC. It shows an alternate-universe Booker as he is approached by the sultry alternate-universe Elizabeth. She leads him on a short tour of a pre-disaster Rapture, complete with bystanders throwing out Randian quips. On close inspection, however, not everything seems perfect and it becomes clear that Burial at Sea might just detail how Rapture fell in the first place.

  • ‘BioShock Infinite’ DLC Video Teases Return to Rapture

Early this year, Irrational Games released two Mockumentaries previewing the world of Columbia, the floating city that served as the setting of BioShock: Infinite. The docs were made in the style of old 70s documentaries on paranormal or mysterious topics. The series was titled “Truth From Legend” and subtitled “Columbia: A Modern Day Icarus?”

Now, with an all-new DLC story campaign set to take gamers back to Rapture (the underwater-city setting of the original BioShock), Irrational has brought back the “Truth From Legend” series with a new topic: “Rapture: A Modern Day Atlantis?” The video teases a noir-style poster of Booker and Elizabeth from BioShock Infinite, both re-cast in 1950s roles in Rapture.

The release date for BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea has not yet been announced. The add-on will come in two parts, and will tell the story of Booker as a private eye in Rapture. Elizabeth will play the classic role of the sultry woman who sets the case in motion – a case that appears to be linked to the eventual fate of Rapture.

  • GameFly Opens PC Game Storefront, Gives Away Mafia II

GameFly Opens PC Game Storefront, Gives Away Mafia II

For the past few years, GameFly has been the Netflix of gaming. Console gamers interested in trying out the latest games could simply add games to their queue and get them in the mail within a few days. Now GameFly has its sights set on the PC gaming market, and has opened a new digital storefront to cement its ambitions.

GameFly announced today that it’s launching what it calls GameFly Digital – a Web-based storefront for digital downloads of PC games. GameFly promises over 2,500 PC and Mac games at launch with more titles to be added over the coming weeks.

“We always wanted to bring the striking design and functionality of our PC client to the web so that everyone could access it from any browser,” said Saujin Yi, GM of GameFly Digital.

With its entrance into the digital PC game storefront marketplace, GameFly joins an increasing number of digital retailers all trying to compete with Steam. Origin and Green Man Gaming have been able to snag some marketshare away through exclusives and sales respectively, but what does GameFly have to offer over the other guys?

As part of its press release, GameFly boasts that it makes it easier for consumers to look for PC games with what it calls “Collection.” In short, it’s a curated list of games either from a specific publisher (i.e. Square Enix Store) or a specific series (i.e. XCOM Store). It’s a nice gesture, but it’s not exactly revolutionary as Steam also allows players to look for games by publisher.

In its excitement over the launch of its new storefront, GameFly neglected to mention that it does have one thing that sets it apart from the rest – Unlimited PC Play. Much like its console rental service, Unlimited PC Play allows PC gamers to download any game as part of the service and keep it as long as they remain a subscriber. Unfortunately, the service doesn’t feature many new games so its appeal is limited. It is, however, something that GameFly may want to highlight in future advertising of its PC store.

On a final note, GameFly has partnered with 2K Games to launch its new digital storefront. Gamers who choose to buy from GameFly will save up to 80 percent on a number of 2K Games’ titles. As a bonus, players who buy any 2K title from GameFly Digital will get a free copy of Mafia II.
