The High School Musical hunk has truly grown up. Zac Efron proved that to fans at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards while accepting the golden popcorn.
What award did Efron take home you might ask? The 26-year-old actor snagged the coveted prize for Best Shirtless Performance for his work in That Awkward Moment.
And boy, did he deserve the win.
While accepting the award, the blue-eyed actor was stripped down by Rita Ora. Efron’s snap shirt made the revealing almost too easy, showing off his tan, extremely sculpted abs.
She proudly took to Instagram to show off her accomplishment.
Prior to the award show, the fratty Neighbors actor took to Twitter announcing his shirtless plan. I think it’s safe to say the Twitter advertisement helped sway a few votes.
If I beat Thor- I'm accepting the award shirtless on stage. #movieawards
Aside from being up against some pretty tough competition, Efron came out on top. Other actors in the category included Jennifer Aniston for We’re the Millers; Sam Claflin, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire; Leonardo DiCaprio, The Wolf of Wall Street; Chris Hemsworth, Thor: The Dark World.
Last Sunday, Vin Diesel gave a moving tribute to his co-star and friend Paul Walker when he received the award for “Best On-Screen Duo.” Diesel was not able to attend the ceremony, as he was on location filming the seventh instalment of the Fast and the Furious movie franchise.
The speech was recorded and shown to the audience, but it was not included in the telecast. In the video, Diesel was looking a bit somber as he said his thanks. He said that it was the MTV audience who first recognized the brotherhood he and Walker had on screen, referring to their 2002 win for the same category. “It’s surreal to be standing here 12 years later and that you have been so generous to give us this award again,” he continued.
Diesel was teary eyed as he said his last few words. “Thank you for honoring me, more importantly, thank you for honoring that angel – my brother Paul Walker.” He then walked off screen.
Walker, who was in the Fast and the Furious films from the beginning, died in a tragic car crash in November last year.
The MTV Movie Awards also did their own tribute for the star. Before the tribute footage was shown, Jordana Brewster, one of Walker’s co-stars in the Fast and the Furious films, gave the introduction to the footage.
Brewster said that she is lucky to have had the chance to work with Walker for 15 years and that she was a witness to his generosity every day. She continued to say that the late actor was considerate of others, humble, and “he made you feel like the most important person in the world.”
The tribute video showed clips from Walker’s career, as well as footage from his humanitarian efforts.
The last installment in the Fast and the Furious franchise will be shown in theaters in 2015.

It seems the 2014 MTV Movie Awards didn’t generate smiles from everyone in attendance. Apparently, Ice Cube became fairly upset when he didn’t take home the prized popcorn trophy last night.
The rapper turned actor didn’t take home the trophy for best Onscreen Duo and wasn’t too pleased about it. Ice Cube thought the award should’ve gone to him and Kevin Hart for their performances in the comedy Ride Along.
Instead, the popcorn went to Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker for their chemistry in Fast & Furious 6.
“We was robbed,” Ice Cube told USA TODAY. “Shame on you MTV.”
“We had the best chemistry of everybody nominated, for us not to win was crazy,” he claimed of his role with Hart in Ride Along. “We were the best onscreen duo, period.”
The raper wasn’t shy about explaining why he felt he and Hart were snubbed.
“They should have gave it to him before he passed away,” Ice Cube says of Walker, who died in November 2013.
He was so displeased with the situation that he decided to leave the award show early.
“I just wasn’t into it,” he said. “I have been going in and out of these things for 25 years. If you ain’t into it, why torture yourself? As soon as you get bored, get up and leave.”
Conan O’Brien is just hours away from hosting the MTV Movie Awards tonight at 9pm on MTV. One thing about the gig that he’s not nervous about? Showing off some skin. “I’ve been preparing for this job for several years,” the famous comedian and late night host jokes. “I’ve been doing a series of isometrics, underwater exercises, Pilates and Greco-Roman wrestling, which had no benefit to my body, but I strangely enjoyed it.”
But really, Conan knows that now on television, it’s sex and skin that sell. “What’s interesting is that the world has changed so much since when I first got into television; you have to be increasingly fearless. So, I want people to see parts of my body that no one should see.”
He’s also not afraid of the stiff Sunday night television competition, which includes the much-hyped “Game of Thrones” and the sixth season premiere of “Mad Men.” “‘Game of Thrones’ is a complete waste of everyone’s time,” Conan scoffs. “The dragons attack everyone and eat their face on Sunday night. That’s what happens, so don’t even bother watching. ‘Mad Men’? Yawn. OK. Someone had too much to drink and slept with somebody. Whatevs, OK?”
The MTV Movie awards will try to compete with said shows by using special effects on their apocalypse-themed stage, including huge flames and a 5,000 pound fake popcorn, and with sexy categories such as best kiss and best shirtless performance. About the flames, Conan says, “It’s the most flames I’ve ever been around in my life. Every single part of the set explodes into flames at one point during the show.”
And about best shirtless performance? Well, his money is on Thor himself – Chris Hemsworth. “First, I think he deserves it,” Conan tells MTV. “Second, I’ve put a ton of money down. I’ve made a bet, a huge bet, and I’m into some bad people for the money. I think when people start taking their shirts off and you put Thor in the category, Thor wins, hands down, every time,” he said.
