  • Michael Strahan to Host “$100,000 Pyramid” Reboot on ABC

Michael Strahan is spreading his TV hosting wings. In addition to co-hosting Live! With Kelly and Michael alongside Kelly Ripa, he will soon be hosting a game show, too. A reboot of The $100,000 Pyramid is set to air this summer, and ABC has ordered 10 episodes.

The late Dick Clark hosted the original version of the game show, which first aired in 1973 on CBS. It moved to ABC the following year. Since then different versions have aired on cable and in syndication, but this upcoming version marks the first time it will appear as a regular prime time series.

Something weighing heavily on ABC’s decision to order the show is the success of Steve Harvey’s Celebrity Family Feud that aired during last summer’s prime time lineup. Michael Strahan has a similar appeal as Harvey. But will the show be as much fun?

The $100,000 Pyramid pairs a celebrity and an average person against another celebrity and another average person, according to Entertainment Weekly. These pairs compete in playing a word association game, with Michael Strahan interjecting his own brand of humor in his role as host.

Are you a fan of Michael Strahan on Live! With Kelly and Michael? Can you see the New York Giants Hall of Famer making his mark on the TV game show world?

  • Centenarian Claps as Grandson Shaves Beard She Hates

Scott Cleveland’s grandmother didn’t particularly care for the beard he’d been spoting for the past four years, so two years ago he promised to make her happy and shave the thing off – for her 100th birthday.

That time has come, she’s now a centenarian, as the beard is gone.

Good thing Scott captured the actual shaving of the beard, because watching his grandmom clap with joy as he takes the shears to it is enough to brighten your day.

“That looks like Scott,” she says when the deed is done. “Happy to see you again.”

    What a good grandson.

  • Vivien Leigh Would Have Been 100 Today

Vivien Leigh Would Have Been 100 Today

If Vivien Leigh were alive, she would have turned 100 today!

The beautiful actress was best know as Scarlett (Skah-leht, if you remember…) O’Hara from “Gone With the Wind”, the movie that debuted in 1939. The movie is a classic that is still enjoyed by audiences today.

She was also known for her role as Blanche DuBois in “A Streetcar Named Desire”. She won Academy Awards for both performances, and was immensely respected in early Hollywood. She was also incredibly prolific on Broadway and in London.

However, as the world celebrates the accomplishments of the great actress, born Vivian Mary Hartley in 1913, her stepson, Tarquin Olivier, son of Lawrence Olivier, told the Daily Mail that being a mother was not one of them.

“She treated me like an equal. She wasn’t intended by her nature to be a mother, any more than my father was to be a father. The purpose of her life was her love of Larry,’ he said. He doesn’t blame her and spoke quite fondly of her as his stepmother.

He added, “I didn’t have a crush on Vivien – a crush is sexy. I simply loved her – she was great fun, very witty and very tender to me as a little boy.”

Olivier went on to say that Leigh suffered from manic depression after suffering a miscarriage in 1945, and struggled with it for years. “It’s a terrible illness that makes you hate the person you love,” says Tarquin. “And I remember the scars on her forehead left by the electric shock treatment the doctors gave her.”

Her mood swings and severe depression finally did in her 20-year marriage to Olivier in 1960,and he remarried actress Joan Plowright, which devastated her at first. However, Vivien was not to be kept down for long. She eventually found love again with actor Jack Merivale. But it was not to last. Sadly Vivien Leigh passed away in 1967 at the age of 53 from tuberculosis.

Even though her career was cut short, as her life was, she remains one of the most fascinating figures of early Hollywood and will always be remembered and respected.

  • Ripken Abduction: Cal Ripken Jr. Increase Award

Cal Ripken Jr. made an announcement Thursday at the Sports Legends Museum next to Oriole Park at Camden Yards, that his family has raised the reward from $2,000 to $100,000 for any information leading to the man that kidnapped his mother last year.

“In our minds, this is important, not only for us and our community, but for all communities,” Ripken said Thursday. “We would like to get closure on this case and give all of us some peace of mind.”

The Hall of Fame infielder’s mother, Vi Ripken, was taken at gunpoint from her home in Aberdeen and was held captive for 24 hours. She was dropped off a few yard from her home and was unharmed.

Law enforcement officials and John Walsh, host of the “America’s Most Wanted” television show were also present when Ripken made the announcement. Walsh pledged the help of his show’s tip line and website, and he also guaranteed that all informants would remain anonymous. “This might not be the first time he did it, and we want to make sure it’s his last,” said Ripken.

Although she was traumatized by the event, Ripken said that his “strong-willed” mother is determined to live a normal life. “She’s more cautious, she’s more careful. Her decisions are not as easy,” he said. Last week, during an interview with The Baltimore Sun, Vi Ripken said that she is working to find the right balance between vigilance and fear. “I didn’t want to go and hide,” Ripken said. “I felt like if I keep away from things, it’s not going to be very fun for me. I just had to face it.”

  • 100,000 Heartbeats For Women Social Media Campaign

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for American women? To be honest, I didn’t know that either, until we started working on a collaboration between Nature Made and WomenHeart called 100,000 Heartbeats For Women.

This social media campaign was created to educate women and highlight the fact that heart health should be a high priority, regardless of your age. We saw the power of building awareness in October when breast cancer awareness became a national priority. This month, your social actions help spread the word about heart disease, and Nature Made is donating to WomenHeart to help them continue their important work, and here’s how you can help.

    Spread the Word, Trigger Donations

Just visit the 100,000 Heartbeats For Women site, and for every action you take, Nature Made will donate on your behalf. They’ll donate just for you learning, and they’ll donate even more for you sharing that information with others. For example:

    • Watch the compelling videos where the WomenHeart Champions tell their own personal stories of heart health, and how they empowered themselves with knowledge–$3 Donation.
    • Share some surprising statistics on Facebook, and help to educate others–$5 Donation.
    • Click the heartbeat widget, which we’ve embedded below. Not only does the animation look really neat, but… $3 Donation, each time you click and a bigger donation for sharing.

  • Lists Of The Most Important Internet Personalities

Internet Evolution has come up with their first-ever list of the top 100 most innovative and influential people in the Web 2.0 world. In the social networking category, Mark Zuckerberg, the Founder of Facebook, beat out Kevin Rose, the Founder of Digg. In the search category, the heads of Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo! were named, but surprisingly Jason Calacanis of Mahalo was named, as well.

Internet Evolution has narrowed down the list into 10 different categories, which include the most innovative and influential people in each category:
    Social Networking
    Enterprise & Cloud Computing
    News/Media
    Greentech
    Wireless & Gadgets
    E-Commerce
    Search
    Security
    Digital Entertainment
    Most Over-Rated

I am particularly interested in the Search category, where Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the Founders of Google, were named first. Stefan Weitz of Microsoft and Carol Bartz of Yahoo were also named, and Jason Calacanis was also named in the Search category.

Here is the list of the top 10 most innovative and influential people in search:

    1. Larry Page, Founder, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG)
    2. Stefan Weitz, Director of Search, Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT)
    3. Carol Bartz, CEO, Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO)
    4. Jason Calacanis, Founder, Mahalo.com Inc.
    5. Robin Li, originator of Baidu Inc. (Nasdaq: BIDU) search technology
    6. Jimmy Wales, Founder, Wikipedia

    8. Jack Ma, Founder, Alibaba.com Hong Kong Ltd.
    9. Alan Emtage, creator of pre-Web search engine Archie
    10. Suranga Chandratillake, CEO, blinkx

Being in the search industry, I’m not sure if I totally agree with this list, as there are some websites that are in the list that I don’t necessarily think are really “search engines”. I would also name a few individuals like Danny Sullivan to the search category before I named Jason Calacanis to the search category.
