While watching last night’s 2012 Academy Awards (The Oscars), where Billy Crystal’s hosting brought flavor back to the Oscars, and various recent movies like The Artist, The Descendants, and Hugo were capturing awards left and right, there seemed to be a minor mishap in the presentation of these awards… the sound quality. While the presenters announced the categories, names, and winners, slight sounds of feedback could be heard during pauses in breath.
The feedback mentioned was not enough to make the full show unbearable; however, it was annoying. While I was watching The Oscars last night, I was surprised that the crew in charge of mixing the sound did not notice it, because it could have been easily troubleshooted and fixed during a commercial break. Audible glimpses of this feedback can be heard while listening to some of the highlights of the award show in the YouTube video provided below.
Many viewers of the 2012 Oscars tweeted their frustration of the sound issues, including Jimmy Fallon who tweeted “fix the mics” during the time of the awards ceremony. I have provided a list of some of the viewer’s frustration-related tweets below.
Fix the mics.
Wow sound mixing certainly doesn’t go to the 2012 Oscars Team… Holy feedback
