Shortly after releasing Skype 5.5 for Windows, with Facebook integration, the company has just released an updated version of their voice and video calling software for Mac, Skype 5.2. (The 5.1 beta version was released in late 2010, and received little fanfar, but 5.2 is well worth the download).

With Skype 5.2, Mac users can share their screens while doing group video calls. Sure, screen sharing is already available for free on a one-to-one Skype call, but couple that with the ability to share documents, presentations, photos and various other items, and you have quite the powerful tool for businesses.

Skype adds group screen sharing in new 5.2 Update for Mac. Download it now. http://bit.ly/kqvaB0 1 minute ago via CoTweet · powered by @socialditto

Something that should be mentioned; to use Skype 5.2 at its full potential, one or more of call participants must have a Skype premium account. Prices for those range between $4.49 and $8.99 per month. Day passes are also available for individuals who don’t normally use Skype on a daily basis.

When Microsoft acquired Skype earlier this year they stated that they would “continue to invest in and support Skype clients on non-Microsoft platforms“. It’s good to see Microsoft making good on their word, this should ease some Skype fans worrying minds.
