Lean In…the movie?

It appears that it’s coming soon to a theater near you. Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to Lean In: Women, Work, And The Will to Lead – the 2013 book penned by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg.

On to write the script is Neil Scovell, who actually helped Sandberg on the book. From Deadline:

The film is not a biography of Sandberg; rather, Scovell will hatch a narrative film from the themes contained within the book. Sandberg will donate her proceeds from the project to her foundation.

So we shouldn’t expect The Social Network Part 2?

Lean In quickly became a NYT bestseller and was the #2 most-sold book on Amazon in 2013 – so there’s clearly a market for this sort of project. The book was just the first step, however, in the “Lean In” movement. Sandberg founded LeanIn.org to further her mission of empowering women.

“The book Lean In is focused on encouraging women to pursue their ambitions, and changing the conversation from what we can’t do to what we can do. LeanIn.Org is the next chapter,” says the organization.

All sales from Lean In the book go to the LeanIn.org organization, as will any and all proceeds from the upcoming film. It’s not like Sandberg needs it – with a spike in Facebook’s stock price, she just recently became one of the world’s youngest female billionaires.
