It looks as though previous rumors concerning the release date for the new Nokia Lumia 900 may have been confirmed. Two weeks ago we brought you news that the phone was scheduled for an April 8th release, and that it would sell for $99.99 with two-year contract. The source of that rumor claimed to be an assistant manager at a California AT&T store. There was no way to verify that, however, as the claim was made in a forum post.

Now it seems that the poster was telling the truth. Nokia has announced that the Lumia 900 will be coming to AT&T on April 8th and will sell for $99.99 with a two-year contract. Pre-orders of the phone are expected to begin on March 30th. The Lumia 900 will be available in blue and black to start, with a white model available on April 22nd.

The Lumia 900 was unveiled at CES in January to positive reviews. It’s Nokia’s first major smartphone release since they abandoned the Symbian operating system and partnered with Microsoft to start making devices with the Windows Phone operating system. As such, the performance of the Lumia 900 is potentially huge for Nokia and Microsoft. Apple and Google currently own the smartphone and tablet markets with their iOS and Android platforms. The Lumia 900, and the forthcoming line of Windows 8 tablets coming alongside Windows 8 sometime later this year, provides an opportunity to break into a very lucrative market.

The Lumia 900 boasts an impressive array of features. The 4G LTE phone comes with a 1.4 GHz processor, 4.3-inch AMOLED display, 8 megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, 300 hours of standby time, and Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.
