Ke$ha may be a successful pop star, but that doesn’t mean she is immune to the pressures that most girls face these days, and her mother says she nearly died while battling an eating disorder.

The 26-year old singer reportedly fought body image issues from an early age, but things got progressively worse when she signed with an agent and began seeking the spotlight.

“One time on a conference call, (David, Ke$ha’s former manager) Sonenberg was screaming, ‘You need to lose weight! I don’t care what you do … take drugs, not eat, stick your finger down your throat!’ ” Ke$ha’s mother, Pebe Sebert, said. “Ke$ha was just weeping. She drove around afterward thinking about killing herself.”

Ke$ha checked herself into a rehab facility recently to get help for the disorder, which took a toll on her body.

“The doctors told me her blood pressure and sodium levels were so low, they’d never seen it that low except with someone who’d had a heart attack or stroke. They said it was a miracle she hadn’t already dropped dead on stage,” Sebert said.

On January 4, Ke$ha issued a statement on her Facebook page, saying, “I’m a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself but I’ve found it hard to practice. I’ll be unavailable for the next 30 days, seeking treatment for my eating disorder … to learn to love myself again. Exactly as I am. – k”
