Julianne Hough recently took part in the Spartan Best challenge–a 13-mile obstacle course. The Dancing With the Stars judge finished the challenge, but admits there were a few areas in which she could have performed better.

Sharee and Wise, Julianne Hough’s sister and brother-in-law, put their team together, and since their last name is Wise, the team was called the Wise Asses.

“Team W.A. endured and overcame about 30 intense obstacles, which included crawling beneath barbed wire as we were being sprayed with hoses. It was beyond difficult to do! There were three upper body challenges. There was one I definitely couldn’t complete: a set of vertical monkey bars. When faced with an obstacle we couldn’t get through we had to drop and give officials 30 burpees. Thirty! It inspired me to step up my strength training game, so stay tuned for a post on that!” Julianne Hough writes on her personal website.

It didn’t help that Hough competed during the recent California heat wave.

Sharing a photo of her team on Instagram, Julianne Hough captioned it, “I love physical challenges, but the Spartan Beast was SO MUCH more than just a really intense (and very messy) workout. You can see all our action shots and read about what the day was like for me over on juliannehough.com. (link in profile)”

The professional dancer loves joining her family members for over-the-top workouts. She and brother Derek Hough have been dance partners a number of times throughout the years.

Julianne Hough said the Spartan Beast challenge was physically exhausting, but that she had a blast becoming exhausted alongside her family members and friends.

“My favorite aspect of the day was the teamwork,” she writes. “When we had to climb a wall of slippery mud, one team member would start at the top, another would grab their leg, while someone else hoisted the next person up… We all relied on each other multiple times throughout the race. The support wasn’t only physical but mental, too. Even when we were panting and sweating, we were laughing and encouraging each other to stay motivated and see each obstacle though.”

Julianne Hough’s resilience and stamina are nothing short of amazing. If you haven’t seen her dance, then you must. Seeing her take part in something like this Spartan Beast challenge must have been awe inspiring.
