Hilary Duff is not a member of the Church of Scientology. A photo of what turned out to be a temporary tattoo of a moon caused the rumor about the former Disney star’s affiliation with the controversial organization to run rampant.

A couple of months back Duff was spotted hanging out with The Walking Dead star Alanna Masterson. Masterson comes from a family of practicing members of the Church of Scientology. It was in that photo that Hilary was spotted sporting the faux ink–depicting a crescent moon, two small triangles, and an arrow–on her arm.

A false report claimed the symbols represented the Church of Scientology and had countless people believing Hilary Duff had joined the ranks of Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

Duff took to Twitter to dispel the rumor.

The false report posted by Radar Online that claimed Hilary was a Scientology member also said that her temporary body art featured the “ARC” or “Affinity, Reality and Communication” triangle. In the Church of Scientology the ARC “greatly assists interpersonal relationships’ and provides “a greater understanding of life itself.”

A fan of Hilary Duff’s made it clear that not everyone believed she had become a member of the Church of Scientology.

Duff’s reply indicates she knows full well she is subject to rumors but that some people like to take it to the extreme.

Are you surprised to learn that Hilary Duff isn’t a Scientologist? Had you heard the initial rumor? Did you believe it?
