Foursquare Now Offers Self-Destructing Tips

With Foursquare’s revamped app, tips are the new check-ins. Today, the company is trying to make tips more helpful by letting them disappear after they’re no longer relevant.

Getting in on the ephemeral everything craze, Foursquare is unveiling ephemeral tips.

“Not all tips should last forever. Maybe your favorite vintage store is only running a sale for the week, or your neighborhood bar is featuring a local brewery until the end of the month. That’s why we’ve introduced ephemeral tips in the all-new Foursquare. It’s perfect for those timely bits of advice you’re dying to share about the places you love,” says Foursquare.

Now, when you leave a tip on Foursquare, you’ll have the option to choose its life span – forever, one month, one week, one day only, or a custom amount of time. When tips appear, they will sport a “relevant until” marker.

With check-ins completely ousted from the flagship Foursquare app, its new purpose becomes a local recommendation and discovery app – just what Foursquare has wanted for some time now (to the chagrin of many). With this new focus, tips are pretty much everything, and Foursquare has spent the past couple of weeks trying to make them more user friendly.
