Emma Watson has been bashed on the internet for exploiting the death of Harry Potter co-star Alan Rickman and pushing her own ‘feminist agenda’ by posting a quote by the late actor to social media.

In the wake of the shocking news that Rickman had died, the 25-year-old actress took to social media to remember her former co-star with a post that featured Rickman’s image overlaid with a quote that expressed his strongly-held feminist beliefs.

“There is nothing wrong with a man being a feminist, I think it is to our mutual advantage,” said Rickman — who portrayed the misunderstood Severus Snape in the film version of the Harry Potter series — in March 2015.

Twitter trolls didn’t take to kindly to her post and began to pick on the actress who portrayed Hermione Granger.

“Wow, you’re using the death of your friend to push your agenda. That’s actually horrible,” tweeted one disgruntled fan.

One post called Watson’s tribute, “tacky, classless, tactless, disgusting behaviour”.

Of course, the trolls failed to notice that Emma Watson posted this one feminist tweet along with several others that included quotes from Rickman.

Watson, a Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women and advocate for the HeForShe campaign that promotes gender equality, is continually under the gun for her staunch support of feminist advocacy.

Many other fans came out in support of Emma Watson following the backlash.

“He was a feminist, and those were his words, she is just paying tribute, nothing wrong with it,” one wrote.

“Love the @EmWatson tribute to Alan Rickman. She respectfully paid homage to his humanitarian character and feminist ideals they shared,” another commented.
