Actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin announced their decision to separate yesterday on her website Goop.com. The open letter implied that their split was a mutual choice, but Hollywood Life reports otherwise.
According to the online publication, Martin is devastated about the couple’s separation. Hollywood Life’s source claims Martin was “desperate to find a way to keep their love alive.” Apparently, he really did not want their marriage to end, and he tried to do whatever it took to save it. When his actions failed, he was crushed.
Martin even suggested that the couple seek counseling or move back to London. Unfortunately, nothing could save their union. Despite their separation, Martin and Paltrow want to try to make things as amicable and comfortable for their two children, Apple, 9, and Moses, 7, as possible.
Hollywood Life’s source says “now they’ll have to figure out custody because he loves those kids more than anything…He’s very hurt.”
Rumors surrounded the couple’s marriage for years, including accusations of infidelity.
Last Year, Paltrow opened up about her marriage to Glamour UK. In the interview, she revealed that the key to their marriage’s success was the fact that they never wanted to give up on one another at the same time. “I asked my dad once, ‘How did you and Mum stay married for 33 years?’ And he said, ‘Well, we never wanted to get divorced at the same time… And I think that’s what happens. When two people throw in the towel at the same time, then you break up, but if one person’s saying: ‘Come on, we can do this,’ you carry on.”

It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.
Love,
Gwyneth & Chris
Many of Coldplay’s fans are theorizing that their latest single ‘Magic’ is about Paltrow. If true, it gives more accuracy to Hollywood Life’s report.
