Bruno Mars, the 27-year-old pop sensation known for his slew of No. 1 hits, is rumored to be headlining the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVIII in February. Insiders expect an official announcement to be made in New York tomorrow.
The halftime show sponsored by cola giant, Pepsi, has an impressive resume of preceding year’s headliners’; Beyonce performed at the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans, and Madonna was watched by millions the year before. Usher, the Black Eyed Peas, Bruce Springsteen and The Who have also been the top acts to perform in recent years.
The Super Bowl is set to take place on February 2 at East Rutherford, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium and be seen by millions; previous year’s Bowls’ have been tuned into by more than 100 million homes across the U.S.
Mars, nee Peter Hernandez, is a Grammy-winning singer and songwriter who also produces. He recently won two awards at MTV’s Video Music Awards in August; Mars took home the coveted statue in the category ‘Best Male Video’ (“Locked Out of Heaven”) and in ‘Best Choreography’ for his “Treasure” video.
Mars’ most recent album, his second, was released last December and has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide. His resume includes several popular tunes such as “Grenade,” “Locked Out of Heaven” and “Just The Way You Are.”
