  • Michael Douglas Loves on His Family Daily

Michael Douglas reportedly heads to his wife’s home everyday to make pancakes for his children Dylan, 13, and Carys, ten.

The 69-year-old Douglas lives in a bachelor pad near the apartment he used to share with Catherine Zeta-Jones in New York.

“When he’s in New York, he makes the kids breakfast and comes back in the evening to watch TV with them before bedtime,” a source told UK newspaper The Mirror.

“Then he gets his marching orders from his wife and returns to sleep at his own place in Manhattan.”

The source goes on to explain that Douglas wants to keep a strong bond with his kids and be a part of their home life as much as possible.

“Michael is very bothered about spending regular downtime with Dylan and Carys rather than just seeing them for dinners and days out,” the source said.

“It’s very sweet when he turns up at the apartment to cook for them because he so desperately wants to be back as part of the family’s life. Catherine thinks it’s really touching he’s being so hands-on with the kids – and he’s praying it’s the key back into her heart.”

“Michael would give his right arm for a reconciliation but Catherine’s warned she is not ready to commit and she’s still not ruled out divorce,” the source revealed.

Zeta-Jones, 44, who is reportedly unwilling to reunite with her husband, has yet to file for divorce.

  • Mozambique Airline Crash Kills all Aboard

A Mozambique Airlines plane carrying 33 people crashed in a Namibian national park near the border with Angola, killing everyone on board, said Bollen Sankwasa, Namibia’s deputy police commissioner.

Some reports claim 34 may have died.

Initial reports claim the plane carried 27 passengers, including 10 from Mozambique, nine from Angola, five from Portugal, and one citizen each from France, Brazil and China, and six crew members.

Flight TM470 from Maputo was scheduled to land in Luanda, the Angolan capital, on Friday afternoon. Early reports from Mosambique Airlines said the plane may have landed in Rundu, northern Namibia. When it was confirmed that the plane did not land in Botswana, aviation authorities from Namibia, Botswana and Angola joined in the search for the missing plane.

Locating the plane was difficult to find because the area is rugged and there are few roads, police official Willy Bampton said.

The European Union has banned Mozambique Airlines because of safety concerns.

  • Ohio State Ejections Result after Fight on the Field

Ohio State and Michigan’s legendary rivalry went to a whole new level when a brawl broke out in the second quarter of their matchup on Saturday.

The third-ranked Buckeyes’ right guard Marcus Hall and kick returner Dontre Wilson, and the Wolverines’ linebacker Royce Jenkins-Stone were ejected Saturday. All three players were flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and were ordered to leave the field after the fight.

Hall and Wilson threw punches after players gathered following an Ohio State kickoff return in the second quarter. Jenkins-Stone tugged Wilson’s helmet off and threw it to the field. An angry Hall stomped off the field, kicking, shouting and put both arms into the air and extending his middle fingers.

Ohio State beat Michigan 42-41 after an interception by Ohio State on a 2-pt conversion attempt by Michigan in the final 30 seconds of the game.

Further punishment may result for the Ohio State players, which could hurt the team during the Big Ten Championship game next week.

“The conference office will wait until after the game for the officials’ written report, review the video and then take further action if needed,” Big Ten spokesman Scott Chipman wrote in an email to The Associated Press.

Western Winter Storm Boreas Kills 13

    (image)

Winter storm Boreas has already dumped up to a foot of snow in western and southwestern Oklahoma as it makes its trek across the US.

The massive storm has caused mass flooding, car crashes, hundreds of flight cancellations, road closures and leading to at least 13 deaths as it trekked across New Mexico and Texas on Saturday.

An improperly restrained 4-year-old girl was killed in a rollover accident in New Mexico and three more people died in a weather-related crash in the Texas Panhandle.

Meteorologists expect the Arctic mass to head south and east, threatening travel plans for Tuesday and Wednesday, two of the busiest travel days of the year.

By early Sunday, the weather was blamed for at least eight deaths in several fatal traffic accidents. The storm has caused hundreds of rollover accidents, including one that injured three members of singer Willie Nelson’s band when their bus hit a pillar near Dallas.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warnings across Texas and Oklahoma until midday Monday. The system is expected to bring wintry conditions into the Southern Plains, Southeast and finally reach the Northeast during the next five days.

Boreas is expected to keep temperatures 15 to 20 degrees below normal along the East Coast through Thursday. Even if the system fails to deliver heavy snow, it could cause air travel disruptions with high winds, forecasters say.

  • Carol Burnett’s Rise from Ashes

The groundbreaking comedienne, Carol Burnett, won the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in October and the ceremony will air on PBS on Sunday, Nov. 24.

The 80-year-old Burnett’s rise to fame began from humble beginnings and a troubled childhood. Raised by alcoholic parents, she eventually moved in with her ‘theatrical hypochondriac’ grandmother. In her 1986 memoir, One More Time and in an interview with NPR, she details her childhood and the influence her mother and grandmother had on her future in comedy.

“They had great senses of humor. And people who read the memoir and have read it, they think, oh, my gosh, that was a real tough upbringing. But I never felt that,” Carol said. “We were poor, and both my parents died, eventually, of alcoholism, but I was kind of in the same boat with a lot of the kids in the neighborhood.

“Everybody was poor, and a lot of their folks had drinking problems. But we found a way to survive and to play and to laugh and thrive in a funny way.”

Burnett would eventually become one of the most influential comediennes in her field. She was one of the first women to host her own variety show, The Carol Burnett Show, which ran for 11 years and won 25 Emmy’s. During the run of the show on CBS from 1967 to ’78, she began a tradition of pulling on her earlobe at the end of each show as a tribute to her grandmother. She continues that tradition to this day.

Equally well-known for her singing, writing and acting, Burnett has been the recipient of a Peabody Award, several Golden Globes and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.

During the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor ceremony, fellow comedienne Tina Fey spoke of the great influence Burnett has been in her own career.

“A lot of female comediennes are going to come out and say that ‘I love you so much,’  ” Fey told Carol, “but I’m saying it first!”

“I fell in love with sketch comedy watching your show, and you proved sketch comedy is a good place for women,” Fey said. “Only in sketch comedy does a woman get to play Cher, Scarlett O’Hara, the Queen of England, a Girl Scout, Mrs. Wiggins — all in one night.”

  • BMW Rocky Steps Joyride: Man Charged

Philadelphia police have charged a man for reckless endangerment after he turned himself in on Thursday for allegedly driving his BMW down the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art made famous by the movie “Rocky”.

The driver of the BMW, 20-year-old Emin Faki, told police that he never intended to go down the steps, but his brakes failed. The police checked the brakes, and when they could find nothing wrong with them, filed charges.

The drive down the steps by Faki was filmed by onlookers on Oct. 24 and posted on the internet, leading police to the driver.

Faki was arraigned on Friday and was appointed a public defender. His next court appearance will be Dec. 18.

The steps were made famous after the memorable (and heart-pumping) “Rocky” scene when Rocky Balboa, portrayed by Sylvester Stallone, runs up the steps while training for his boxing match with Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). Today, a statue of Rocky Balboa stands at the top of the stairs.

  • Benghazi Reward Draws Questions from Lawmakers

The State Department’s announcement on Friday that it has quietly offered up to $10 Million Dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, killing US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, drew questions from many lawmakers.

The State Department did not list the attack on the ‘Rewards for Justice’ website, raising questions about the effectiveness of offering a multi-million dollar reward without posting it on the site or making it publicly known, as is usually done.

After months of criticism that the Obama administration was not doing enough to apprehend the terrorists, Rep. Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security committee, sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, on Oct. 30, asking why the State Department had not posted a reward on “Rewards for Justice” website.

“We fail to understand how such an important counterterrorism tool could not be used by the administration when you and the President claim that bringing the assailants to justice is such a high priority,” said the letter.

The State Department’s response came Friday in a letter to McCaul by Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs Julia Frifield, acknowledging that the department has quietly been offering money since Jan. 7, stating that they did not post the reward on the site for security reasons.

“The State Department today confirmed that since January of 2013 the Rewards for Justice (RFJ) program has had a reward offer of up to $10 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of any individual involved in the September 11-12, 2012 Benghazi attacks,” the department said in its statement.

Defending its position to keep quiet about the reward, the State Department stated, “Due to security issues and sensitivities surrounding the investigation, the event-specific reward offer has not been publicly advertised on the RFJ website,” adding that the program’s tools can be “utilized in a variety of ways, without publicizing them.”
