    Maryland Mall Shooting: Twitter Reports

Twitter is becoming THE source for news in breaking stories. In many cases, major news outlets get their news from Tweets and this has never been more apparent than in today’s coverage of the fatal mall shooting in Maryland.

Three people have died and two others were injured after someone armed with a gun opened fire at the Mall in Columbia in suburban Baltimore on Saturday.

The shooter is reported to be among the dead.

According to reports a 911 call was placed at around 11:15 a.m. to report a shooting at the mall. When police arrived at the mall, they found three people, dead, including one person who was near the gun and ammunition allegedly used in the shooting. Police believe this person is the shooter, although the identities of the dead have been released pending notification to next of kin.

The Howard County Police Department’s Twitter Updates have been riveting.

At a news conference, Howard County Police Chief William J. McMahon said there was only one shooter.

“We don’t know a motive yet,” McMahon said. “We are very confident that it was a single shooter, and there was not another shooter in the mall.”

  • Noah’s Ark: Refuting the Biblical Account

There are some mysteries that always seem to draw us into the question, “what if?”

Noah’s ark is one of those that has intrigued the world over. One of the first Biblical stories shared with children is the story of Noah, his family, and two of every kind of animal that were saved from the wrath of God.

According to a newly discovered ancient tablet, the roots of the Old Testament story may come from an old Mesopotamia story. And the image of the “boat” that comes to mind when thinking of the ark may be erroneous. Instead, it could very well be a nearly flat, round, bowl-like boat, instead of the typical form one thinks of.

A 4,000-year-old clay cuneiform tablet from ancient Mesopotamia went on display Friday at the British Museum that apparently instructed builders how to build the vessel.

Irving Finkel, the museum’s assistant keeper of the Middle East and the man who translated the tablet, got hold of the tablet when a man brought in the damaged tablet to the museum, saying his father acquired it in the Middle East after World War II.

“It was really a heart-stopping moment — the discovery that the boat was to be a round boat,” said Finkel. “That was a real surprise.”

According to Finkel, a television documentary will attempt to build the ark according to the ancient manual. It calls for the vessel to be made of rope, reinforced with wooden ribs and coated in bitumen and be about two-thirds the size of a soccer field in area.

The flood story is not limited to the Bible but is found in ancient Mesopotamian writings, including the “Epic of Gilgamesh.”

“I’m sure the story of the flood and a boat to rescue life is a Babylonian invention,” he said.

He also doubts the ark’s existence, but believes it’s just a story that has found its way into Judeo-Christian folklore.

“I don’t think the ark existed — but a lot of people do,” he said. “It doesn’t really matter. The Biblical version is a thing of itself and it has a vitality forever.

  • Jeremy Bieber: Is He Justin’s Dad or Accomplice?

Troubled Justin Bieber and his pops, Jeremy, have been hanging out in Miami Beach in between DUI arrests, drag racing through the streets of Miami and whatever other shenanigans are going on in Florida.

Justin has been following in the footsteps of so many other young celebrities in getting himself into trouble and his party pal dad just seems to be joining in the fun.

The elder Bieber was apparently partying with Justin at the Miami Beach night club SET just before the DUI arrest on Thursday. He is also reported to have blocked traffic so Justin could race the rented yellow Lamborghini at twice the legal speed limit.

The “Heartbreaker” singer told arresting officers that he was under the influence of alcohol, marijuana and anti-depressants. He is accused of resisting arrest, cursing out the police, and having an expired driver’s license. Bail was set at $2,500: $1,000 for resisting arrest, $1,000 for DUI, and $500 for his expired license.

One of Justin’s childhood friends in Canada, Cory Bernier, has gone so far as to say that all of the 20-year-old’s recent behavior is in response to his desire to please his tattoo-clad dad.

“Justin has a very good heart but his judgement is being clouded by drugs and alcohol and a lot of it is to impress his dad,” said Bernier.

Bernier thinks it might be better for him to be spending more time with his mom, Patti Mallette. “He would be better spending more time with his mum. My message to Justin would be, ‘Slow down and get help – you have your whole life ahead of you’.”

Bieber’s dad took to Twitter on Friday morning to speak out defensively on his son’s arrest.

And he tweeted this a few hours ago:

Justin’s mom and dad broke up when the singer was just 10 months old and his mom, Pattie, raised Justin with help from her mom and stepfather.

Jeremy, who is credited with teaching Justin to play guitar, had a strong relationship with his son, is now married to another woman with two children, Justin’s half-siblings Jazymn, 5, and Jaxon, 4.

They currently live in the $850,000 home Justin bought for them.

  • Lolo Jones: Looks Enough to Win in Sochi? Not!

No doubt about it, Lolo Jones is pretty hot and draws viewers to whatever sport she decides to compete in.

Well, apparently NBC seems to think so.

But fellow bobsledders are not as thrilled with her selection to compete as a pusher on the women’s bobsled team in Sochi.

Jones, who is set to become the ninth American to compete in both the Summer and Winter Olympics, joins Aja Evans and Lauryn Williams on the team.

The women she beat out, Emily Azevedo and Kate Eberling voiced their opinions about the choice to USA Today Sports.

Implying Jones’ popularity and her standing as a media darling earned her the coveted spot, Azevedo said, “I should have been working harder on gaining Twitter followers than gaining muscle mass.” Jones has more than 375,000 Twitter followers, while Azevedo has just over 2,000.

    Eberling agrees with Azevedo’s assessment.

“I feel this year there was a certain agenda,” she said. “It’s no fault of my teammates. There’s been a lot of inconsistencies and that makes you wonder what’s going on. It’s not right.”

Jones was expected to win the gold in the 100-meter hurdles in the Beijing Olympics, but ended up seventh after missing a hurdle. She placed fourth in the London Olympics in 2012.

The 27-year-old Christian has also drawn attention with her declaration that she is a virgin and intends to remain so until marriage.

Several members of the men’s bobsledding team also disagreed with the decision. “It’s hard for me to name one or two athletes that would completely agree with that decision,” said push athlete Curt Tomasevicz.

“We’re returning gold medalists and not getting much PR because all the bobsled attention is on Lolo,” he said. “It brings a lot of attention to the sport which can be a good thing, but I’m not just sure who is benefiting from that attention.”

  • Nightclub Death: Bystanders Videotaped Fatal Beating

Annie “Kim” Pham was brutally murdered in front of a crowd, some of them videotaping the death with their cellphones, outside a Santa Ana nightclub Jan. 18.

“The fact that you had a lot of witnesses, that’s what’s really troublesome. How many people actually stepped in and tried to stop it?” said Senator Lou Correa (D-Sanat Ana).

Pham who aspired to become a TV personality once wrote about the power of photos in people’s lives:

‘We are taught that with photos, we select the ones where smiles are fresh and forward — the good is often highlighted. As for your own life, don’t forget that sometimes the most beautiful lessons in life stem from the unconventional. The elevated focus on showing everyone how much of a superstar you are on social media is quite unnecessary. The greatest harm we can do to ourselves is to not take the chance.”

“I hope that people out there realize how wrong this is,” said Pham’s second cousin, Kathleen Trinh.

Two suspects have been arrested for the attack and a third is being sought.

A witness claims a woman became angry when Pham and her friends cut in front of them as they were taking a photo, leading to an argument that led to the beating. Pham was transported to a hospital where she succumbed to head trauma.

Vanesa Zavala, of Santa Ana was arrested on Monday. The 25-year–old mother of a young son plead not guilty to a murder charge and is being held on $1 million bail.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested on Friday but her name has yet to be released.

Police Chief Carlos Rojas told KNBC-TV, “We are looking for the third person. She was involved in the physical altercation, and we are naming her as a person of interest at this point.”

A reward of $10,000 is being offered by Santa Ana and other local businesses for information leading to the arrest of anyone involved in the California nightclub death.

Pham was an organ donor and her organs have saved five lives so far.

  • Mork & Mindy: Pam Dawber and Robin Williams Reunite

Na-Nu, Na-Nu! Welcome back Mork and Mindy!

The stars of Mork and Mindy, Robin Williams and Pam Dawber, will reunite on an upcoming episode of Williams’ CBS comedy, The Crazy Ones.

“It will be a joy to work with her again,” Williams said. “It’s a dream come true.”

Mork and Mindy was a hit Television show that made Robin Williams, 62, a house-hold name in America. It was on this show that the world first experienced the comedic versatility of the actor who would go on to become one of the most talented comedians of his generation.

The show aired from 1978-1982, and followed the antics of an alien, played by Williams, named Mork from a planet called Ork…. yep, Mork from Ork. Mork landed on Earth in his egg-shaped spaceship and met Mindy McConnell, played by Dawber, who helped the alien navigate this foreign planet.

Fans finally got their wish when Mork and Mindy eventually married on the show.

Williams tweeted his excitement at the reunion Friday:

Williams plays Simon Roberts on the The Crazy Ones, co-starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and James Wolk. His character is not surprisingly an eccentric head of an ad agency. In the episode scheduled to air in the spring, Dawber will play an author who meets Williams’ character at a book signing, and the chemistry is back.

Sara Michelle Gellar also tweeted about the reunion.

The last time Dawber, 62, appeared on television was in the 1999 movie Don’t Look Behind You. She has been married to NCIS star Mark Harmon for 26 years.

  • Ty Burrell Dethrones Alec Baldwin at the SAG Awards

Alec Baldwin ended his seven-year reign as Best Male Performer in a Comedy Series when Ty Burell took home the coveted prize at the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards show on Saturday.

Modern Family also bested 30 Rock to take home the award for Outstanding Comedy Ensemble, making SAG history as the first show to win four times in comedy ensemble.

In its fifth season, Modern Family has met with critical acclaim. It was ranked No. 34 on a list of the 101 most well-written TV series ever made by the Writers Guild of America in 2013.

Ed O’Neil, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet also star in the hit show about the relationships in a very nontraditional family.

As well as 30 Rock, Modern Family beat Veep, Netflix’s Arrested Development and CBS’ The Big Bang Theory in its category.

In his acceptance speech, Burrell gave some advice to young aspiring actors watching.

“I know most of you out here tonight have read my book, Acting: How to Do It Good, but I thought maybe…I would just go back over my five simple steps to success.”

Here are his five steps to success:

“1. Be born into a family that’s never had an actor in it that way they think everything you do is cooler than it actually is, thus giving you a false sense of confidence.
    2. Use that false sense of confidence to woo and trap a spouse that is better than you and is willing to overlook the fact that you have no apparent skill set other than being a needy extrovert.
    3. Have no skill set other than being a needy extrovert.
    4. Use that lack of skill to fail over and over and over again until you stumble into a job written by Chris Lloyd, Steve Levitan and our entire writing staff. Also at that job, make sure your coworkers are the cast of Modern Family.
    5. Um, have a knack for memorizing.”

  • Krystle Dikes’ Parents Speak Out on Her Murder

Krystle Dikes’ Parents Speak Out on Her Murder

The parents of Krystle Dikes spoke to the public for the first time since their daughter was shot and killed at the Martin’s Super Market shooting in Elkhart, Indiana where she worked, on Jan. 16.

Parents Shaun Dikes and Juanita Whitacre joined stepmother Charlotte Dikes and stepfather David Whitacre at the First Baptist Church in Elkhart to speak about their daughter who was gunned down along with shopper 44-year-old Rachelle Godfread.

Krystle Dikes went to high school with the gunman, 22-year-old gunman Shawn Walter Bair, who was shot and killed by police during the incident, but her parents do not know if she had any sort of relationship with him.

“She knew so many people. It’s entirely possible she knew him. She knew everybody, it seemed like,” Whitacre said. “But as far as any prior relationship, we have no clue.”

“She was strong, free-willed, and proudly marched to her own tune,” Shaun Dikes said.

“She took to people who had problems and tried to help them,” Juaninta Whitacre echoed. “She was there for them in their hour of need.”

Juanita Whitacre said she and her daughter had lunch at Martin’s Super Market deli the day of the shooting. She told reporters that she dropped Krystle off at a friend’s house and that was the last time she saw her daughter.

“We talked about jobs. We talked about boys. We talked about school. We talked about all the things moms talk about with their daughters,” Whitacre said. “We talked about her possibly going to live with her grandpa, or living with her father or me. We talked about all the possibilities she had.”

Describing their 20-year-old daughter as a girl who would help anyone, Dikes and Whitacre thanked the thousands of people who sent messages of support through emails, text messages, phone calls and through social media.

Krystle’s dad thanked the Elkhart police and called them heroes.

“They courageously risked their lives so that more families don’t have to feel our pain,” he said.

Step-mom Charlotte Dykes said healing would take time and the emotional scar would last a lifetime.

“They say time heal all wounds,” Charlotte Dikes said.”This is a wound that will never be healed.”

New haircut. New hobbies. New ring. New husband. Well, sorta new husband.

Pamela Anderson surprised everyone when she showed up at the Sean Penn & Friends Help Haiti Home Gala Friday with a drop-dead gorgeous diamond ring on her finger. It was there that she announced that she had remarried her ex-husband Rick Salomon.

“We’re very happy,” Anderson said. “Our families are very happy and that’s all that matters.”

The 46-year-old Bay Watch beauty and Salomon first married in 2007, but the marriage was annulled just two months later.

  • ‘No Pants Subway Ride’ Unites the World for Fun

Thousands of people worldwide are shunning their pants for an annual event that began as a prank.

The “No Pants Subway Ride” is currently happening in all parts of the world, including New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Brussels, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Delhi and Paris.

Improv Everywhere started the event in New York in 2002, the Washington Post reported, and describes itself as “a New York City-based prank collective that causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places.”

Organizers in Washington used Facebook to tell riders who want to join in to try to maintain a calm demeanor and act like riding the subway in your underwear is the most normal thing in the world.

Participants were reminded to bring pants with them in case anyone in authority orders them to put them on.

In Chicago, participates were reminded on Facebook to keep it modest and not be too revealing.

“Please make sure your underwear is not too revealing! All parts that may be deemed offensive MUST BE COVERED!” said the social media page.

Here’s the story behind the event:

  • Road Rage Victim Called For Help to No Avail

    It’s everyone’s worst nightmare.

Road rage murder victim Timothy Davison was chased by someone for over 15 miles in the early hours of Jan. 4, run off the highway by his assailant, was shot multiple times and left to die on the side of the road.

The 28-year-old victim called 911 multiple times before his killer finally ran him off the road and fatally shot him.

    Help never arrived.

While the contents of the 911 calls have not been released, Pennsylvania State Police Captain Steven Junkin said that Davison placed at least two separate emergency calls as the he was being chased by his would be killer.

“This actor had murderous intent,” Junkin said. “We obviously have an individual who was so incensed that he continued to pursue Mr. Davison.”

“He was on 911 for the majority of this incident and we are reviewing the tapes to try and see if we can get any information to help us find out what happened,” said State Trooper Robert Hicks.

Davison was on his way home to Poland, Maine around 2 a.m. from a holiday visit with relatives in Florida on Interstate 81 when he was run off the road, shot multiple times and killed in Antrim Township.

There is no indication that Davison did anything to provoke the attack.

Police are looking for a black or darkly colored Ford Ranger XLT pickup which may have some recent damage from ramming Davison’s car.

Davison worked for his father, Timothy Davison Sr., at the family’s construction business.

Davison Sr. learned of his son’s death when police came to his door to inform him of the incident.

“I can’t begin to tell you what it’s like to hear that,” he said. “It’s not right.”

“He cared for everyone around him,” he said. “He was a rugged kid, extremely sensitive.”

  • Alex Rodriguez Vows to Fight Reduced Suspension

MVP baseball player Alex Rodriguez’s drug suspension was cut to 162 games from 211 by arbitrator Fredric Horowitz, but the New York Yankees third baseman is still ticked and vows to fight to the bitter end.

“The number of games sadly comes as no surprise, as the deck has been stacked against me from day one,” Rodriguez said on his Facebook page on Saturday. “This is one man’s decision, that was not put before a fair and impartial jury, does not involve me having failed a single drug test, is at odds with the facts and is inconsistent with the terms of the Joint Drug Agreement and the Basic Agreement, and relies on testimony and documents that would never have been allowed in any court in the United States because they are false and wholly unreliable.”

Major League Baseball released a statement stating that it stands by the belief that A-Rod should miss the entire season.

“While we believe the original 211-game suspension was appropriate, we respect the decision rendered by the panel and will focus on our continuing efforts on eliminating performance-enhancing substances from our game,” said the statement.

The original ruling of a 211-game penalty was given on Aug. 5 “for attempting to cover up his violations of the program by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the office of the commissioner’s investigation” after Major League Baseball‘s investigation of the Biogenesis of America anti-aging clinic accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs.

Rodrigues vows to fight the ruling in court and reiterated his claim that he has not taken any performance-enhancing drugs while with the Yankees, although he did admit to using PEDs in 2009.

“I have been clear that I did not use performance enhancing substances as alleged in the notice of discipline, or violate the Basic Agreement or the Joint Drug Agreement in any manner, and in order to prove it I will take this fight to federal court,” Rodriguez said. “I am confident that when a Federal Judge reviews the entirety of the record, the hearsay testimony of a criminal whose own records demonstrate that he dealt drugs to minors, and the lack of credible evidence put forth by MLB, that the judge will find that the panel blatantly disregarded the law and facts, and will overturn the suspension.”

  • Sylvester Stallone Admits He was a Know-it-All

Sylvester Stallone humbled himself during an on-stage interview with Jonathan Ross at the London Palladium on Saturday.

Stallone admitted the success of Rocky made him “insufferable” and thinks he was “an authority on everything”.

“I abused power badly,” said Stallone.

“I read some of the interviews I gave now and wish I could go back and punch myself in the face,” he said.

He said that after the glory following Rocky, a less-than-successful 1978 movie Paradise Alley brought him back to reality when he went to a showing of the film only to find two people in the audience.

“And one of them was asleep,” he sighed.

At the event, which climaxed with the Rambo star’s induction into the London Palladium Hall of Fame, Stallone took the opportunity to share some other lesser-known talents as he burst into song and read a short passage from Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors.

Stallone currently stars with Robert De Niro in the boxing comedy Grudge Match.

Stallone spoke highly of the filming process and working out with DeNiro.

“I’ve always enjoyed working out, but this thing was pretty extraordinary,” said the 67-year-old actor. “We got to prove that you don’t have to be crawling around at a certain age, or that you’re obliged to start winding down. Plus I think a lot of people, as they reach 60 and above, think, you know, I have some unfinished business.”

  • Freehold Raceway’s Pace Car Crashes into Horses

A pace car crashed into horses in a horrific accident Friday at Freehold Raceway.

Miraculously, the seven horses involved came out of the accident unscathed.

“The initial inspection was that the horses are all okay,” said Freehold Raceway director of racing and race secretary Karen Fagliarone.

Hall of Famer Catello Manzi, Debra Rucker and Vince Ginsburg were transported to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and are in stable condition. Another driver Jim Pantaleano was taken to another local hospital, but there are no reports on his condition.

The most seriously injured Manzi suffered a punctured lung and cracked ribs and was “in absolute agony,” said Fagliarone. Only the lead horse, Civic Duty driven by James Clarry, avoided the car.

“We don’t know what happened. It was definitely a freak mishap. Something I’ve never seen in 40 years in racing,” said Fagliarone.

Freehold’s General Manager Howard Bruno said that ice was not reported on the track and didn’t believe that to be a factor. He immediately canceled the final six races of the day following the accident.

“We had no prior indications or issues from the first four races,” said Bruno. “It was quite unexpected. The horses are all OK. I don’t know and don’t want to speculate on the drivers.”

  • Kendall Jenner’s Booty ‘Selfie’ Rivals Big Sis

Kendall Jenner is trying to keep up with the Kardashian’s. Well, Kim at least.

Kendall Jenner photobombed big sister Kim Kardashian during a selfie at a gym on Friday.

“Barging in on Kim’s booty self,” the 18-year-old model wrote with the photo.

The photo shows Jenner leaning into the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star from behind. Both wearing tight-fitting black pants and sports bras, Kardashian’s face was concealed because of the flash from the camera.

Kardashian was recently accused of Photoshopping a booty selfie with friend Blac Chyna. The reality star fired back with a tweet on Friday.

“It sucks when people make up surgery or photoshop lies when I am so disciplined & work so hard!” she wrote. “Just trying to motivate others & show anyone struggling with weight they can totally achieve whatever they want if they are dedicated!”

  • Maria Sharapova Blows Off Waiter’s ‘Selfie’ Request

Maria Sharapova may be pretty, but her nerves may be getting the better of her.

In Australia for next week’s Australian Open, the world’s number three tennis pro coldly rebuffed a waiter’s request to take a selfie with him at a Melbourne cafe.

Four-time grand slam winner Sharapova admits she is not a patient person and is likely just nervous before the season’s first grand slam. She has struggled with her right shoulder and has been resting it for the past four months.

She told reporters that this flair up has not been as difficult as in 2008 when her shoulder injury required surgery, but that her patience has been tested none-the-less.

“It was not as hard (to cope with) as the one I had a few years back,” she said. “That was pretty tough, considering I had surgery. This is far from being that serious. This was a matter of time, which in tennis it’s not great when you come to a doctor’s office and they say, ‘time, time, just wait, wait’.

“We don’t have much patience because we always have a schedule set, tournaments to play. That’s tough to accept because you don’t quite know when the inflammation is going to go down, when you’re going to be able to play overhead shots, things like that.”

The 26-year-old Russian beauty has realistic expectations for this year’s open.

“You obviously have to lower your expectations a little bit and be a bit realistic about maybe the first few matches,” she said.

“You have to grind, work through them, hope to get better as the tournament goes on.”

  • David Cassidy Arrested on 3rd DUI Charge

Ah, hearts are breaking once again for 70s teen idol David Cassidy.

The Partridge Family icon was arrested in Los Angeles Friday on his third drunken driving charge.

Cassidy, 63, was pulled over on highway 405 near LAX after making an illegal turn with double the legal limit of alcohol in his system. He was booked in a Los Angeles jail and released on a $15,000 bond several hours later.

“Cassidy was observed making a right turn on a red light, in violation of a black and white regulatory sign indicating, ‘No Right Turn On Red,’” said a California Highway Patrol report.

The officer noticed “the odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from the vehicle” when he approached Cassidy, who was alone in the car, the CHP release said.

Cassidy was arrested for the first time in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2011 and his second DUI occurred in Schodack, New York in August.

Cassidy played the eldest of a family of five musical children on the iconic The Partridge Family. His real-life step-mother, Shirley Jones, played the widowed mother in the show. Millions of David Cassidy fans tuned in to watch the show which featured the family traveling around from gig to gig in a multi-colored bus singing such songs as “I think I love you” and “I’ll meet you Halfway”.

Cassidy launched his own pop music career at the time of the show, filling concert halls with screaming teenage girls.

  • Christina Ricci: Drawn to Ax-Swinging Lizzie Borden

Christina Ricci, 33, is a beautiful girl, but her connection to infamous, ax-swinging murderer Lizzie Borden is questionable.

The actress, who stars in the title role in the Lifetime film Lizzie Borden Took an Ax, says she is drawn to people who have issues.

“I’m interested in people who are troubled. Their behavior comes from their neuroses. I loved the idea of living inside someone so villainous and trying to express the person everyone can relate to,” Ricci said.

The movie is based on the real life story of Lizzie Borden who was acquitted of the murders of her father and stepmother, Andrew and Abby Borden, during a trial in 1893. The trial also inspired the creepy children’s rhyme, “Lizzy Borden took an ax and gave her mother 40 whacks. When she saw what she had done, gave her father 41.”

“[Lizzie Borden] was guilty, but the jury couldn’t see their way to convict her. Very little is known about what went on in the family, but obviously she was a very troubled girl. You don’t kill your parents if you’re happy,” she said.

The pint-sized Ricci said she surprised the cast and crew with her strength as she swung her ax during filming.

“I’m surprising strong. Everyone was impressed with my ax-swinging skills — until I swung the ax backwards, and it was so big and heavy that I hit myself on the back of my spine. It made quite a horrendous sound. I didn’t know my spine would sound hollow if you hit it with a big chunk of metal,” she said.

The movie will air on Lifetime on Jan. 25.
