  • Miley Cyrus: FCC Investigates Indecency, Profanity in NBC’s Bangerz Tour Special

The Federal Communications Commission is investigating NBC’s Fourth of July weekend special Miley Cyrus: Bangerz Tour to determine if the special violated its rules against broadcast indecency or profanity.

The investigation comes as a result of a few complaints the FCC received about the show. According to Rolling Stone, the FCC is deciding whether to take further action.

The report says there were four complaints. However, The Hollywood Reporter claims the fourth complaint stems from a different appearance of the Wrecking Ball singer on a separate NBC show broadcast the same night.

The July 6 special that resulted in the complaints featured Cyrus, 21, on stage and behind the scenes in Barcelona and Lisbon while on her Bangerz Tour earlier this year.

One of the complaints focused on the Disney alum’s provocative dance with a man dressed as Abraham Lincoln.

“She was dressed more in line with a video geared towards MTV,” said the complaint. “Her performance was impropriate [sic] for broadcast TV, as she grinded along there was a costumed performer depicting President Lincoln following behind her and alongside her and the character acted quite lecherous even patting her on the backside. Very patriotic for the 4th ya think?”

Another complaint came from a parent who felt the PG-13/TV-14 rating was inaccurate. He complained that the inappropriate rating allowed the show to bypass his TV’s parental filter.

“I am offended, appalled and ready to start taking public action to remove this garbage from our televisions,” said the father.

The third complaint said: “Very graphic and disturbing for a Sunday evening 9 p.m. summertime broadcast.”

A spokesperson for NBC declined to comment and there was no response from Cyrus‘ camp about the investigation.

  • Laura Plimpton: Martha Stewart Writes Moving Blog on Sister’s Sudden Death

Martha Stewart took to her blog mere hours after the sudden death of her youngest sister, Laura Kostyra Plimpton, to honor her sibling as an “extraordinary employee, mother, wife, and sister”.

Plimpton died Tuesday from a brain aneurysm at the age of 59.

“Laura worked for me and the company for more than 25 years,” Stewart wrote. “For the past several years Laura edited, researched, and often wrote, captioned, and photographed content for this blog and The Daily Wag.”

Stewart shared her earliest memories of Plimpton, including the birth of the youngest of the six Kostyra siblings.

“Our mother wanted to name her Dorothy, but we persuaded her to name her Laura instead,” she wrote. “We still don’t know why we didn’t like the name Dorothy, but Laura was beloved by all as Laura.”

Nothing could have prepared Plimpton’s family for the loss they would face this week.

According to Stewart’s blog, Plimpton began her day at 5:30 a.m. as usual on Tuesday and “did her one hour of elliptical and treadmill, then showered and felt ill enough to call her husband Randy for help.” Her husband took her to Norwalk Hospital in Connecticut, but there was nothing to be done for Stewarts younger sister. Doctors at the hospital determined “she had suffered a massive brain aneurysm.”

“Laura left a living will so she was kept on life support until today so her three children could say their goodbyes, and the testing could be completed for organ donation,” Stewart wrote. “We are so sad but also happy that Laura had the foresight to donate so many healthy organs to needy people.”

Plimpton leaves behind her husband, Randy; her three children, Christopher Herbert, Sophie Herbert Slater, and Charlie Plimpton; and her two children-in-law, Tim Long and Dan Slater.

Stewart ended her blog post with a request for readers to keep the family in their thoughts.

Following her first husband’s death, Plimpton began working with her sister. She ran the company’s daily operations at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia for more than 25 years.

  • Joan Rivers Called Out For ‘Racist’ Bieber Comments

Joan Rivers is once again under fire over controversial remarks.

Victor Willis — the traffic cop in the 70s disco group, The Village People — is ticked at the 81-year-old comedienne for allegedly using “racist” remarks about Justin Bieber.

The brouhaha started last week when Rivers slammed Bieber on E!’s Fashion Police.

“That little b***ch just gets on my nerves,” said Rivers about Bieber before looking straight at the camera, directing her next remarks to the Baby singer. “You are not a big black thug, you are just like your shoes – ordinary and completely white.”

The studio audience and her fellow fashion panelists, including Kelly Osbourne and Giuliana Rancic, thought the comment was HI-larious. Willis, on the other hand, did not find a shred of humor in the comment.

So Willis took his beef to his Twitter account, tweeting:

The disco singer also took his gripe to his official Facebook page and posted a link of Rivers’ Fashion Police remarks on the watchdog website, GossipCop.

We all know this isn’t the first nor will it likely be the last time Rivers sticks her foot in her mouth in the name of comedy.

A few weeks ago, she referred to First Lady Michelle Obama as “Blackie O” and used the “N-word” during an appearance on HuffPost Live to illustrate that “the world is so PC it’s stupid.”

  • Wesley Snipes on Prison: ‘You Can’t Take Life Too Seriously’

Wesley Snipes has served his time behind bars and is now back in his first role since being released — The Expendables 3 — joining his friend, Sylvester Stallone.

On Monday Snipes joked that Stallone had him slated for the first Expendables film but he couldn’t commit because he was “just a little occupied at the time.”

“They reserved a spot for me and when the opportunity came along he reached out again and said come join us, we would like you to be a part of this.”

Snipes began his jail term in December 2010 after being convicted and sentenced to three years in prison for tax evasion in 2008.

The movie takes a jab at Snipes’ time behind bars in the opening scenes with a tax-evasion joke.

Stallone also had a few jokes of his own to share about his friend’s time in prison.

“You don’t mind that I’m readying you for a part in Escape From Alcatraz 2 do you?” Stallone asked Snipes at a press conference in London.

“Whether I do something really funny or really stupid, it is okay with me,” said the 52-year-old actor. “I think that is what life is about. You can’t take life itself too seriously.”

At the end of the day, nobody really cares. You’re going to be forgotten anyway. The issues and problems that you think are like mountains that you have to deal with now, after time goes by, nobody cares. Might as well have a good time with it.”

The 52-year-old actor is eager to get back into the rhythm of filming action projects and is especially hopeful to return to his role as the vampire in the Blade franchise.

“A lot of people are calling for it and I would like to do it,” he said.

  • Katherine Heigl Explains Why She Really Quit ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Katherine Heigl said recently she quit Grey’s Anatomy after determining that juggling her work schedule with being a new mom to daughter Nahleigh — whom she adopted in 2009 — was too much and something had to go.

“I would come home angry and frustrated that I’d missed everything with my kid that day,” said the 35-year-old actress in the September issue of Good Housekeeping. “I didn’t get to wake her up from her nap, or do bath time or bedtime. I’d have to sneak into her room and kiss her when she was sleeping, hoping not to wake her up.”

It was something that weighed heavily on the mind of the Grey’s Anatomy star.

“I felt like my priorities were messed up,” she said. “I was putting so much time and energy into just my work, but I was raised [to believe] that family comes first.”

Naleigh, now five, was adopted from South Korea, mirroring what Heigl‘s own parents did in adopting her big sister, Meg.

“My family had its own unique look,” she said. “And I wanted the one I began with my husband to have the same look, in a way.”

Two years ago, Heigl and her husband, singer Josh Kelley, adopted another baby girl, Adalaide, from Louisiana.

“We brought her home, and right away Naleigh was like a little mommy,” the 27 Dresses actress said. “She’d say, ‘No, no. You’re not holding her right.’ Or, ‘She needs to eat again.’ I’d be like, ‘Would you back off? Just give me a minute!’”

Heigl says leaving Grey’s Anatomy and limiting her movie roles enabled her to find some peace of mind and spend precious moments with her daughters.

“Naleigh would go off to her ballet classes and other stuff, and I would sit with the baby at home,” she shared. “I would read, and she would lie on my chest, and we’d lie on the couch with, like, four dogs, and watch Friday Night Lights. I found it so peaceful.”

With the girls a bit older now, the actress has returned to work on the new NBC fall series, State of Affairs. Some say it will be the vehicle that may help the actress repair her reputation of being “difficult”.

  • Tyler Posey Plans Wedding AND Teen Choice Awards

Tyler Posey says he loves everything about planning his wedding to longtime love Seana Gorlick.

The 22-year-old Teen Wolf star told ET Online, “The wedding planning has been awesome and intense, and stressful and perfect, and everything is just the way that it should be. I love it.”

Posey proposed to his middle school sweetheart during a vacation in Hawaii.

“I’ve been wanting to ask her to marry me for years now and I finally did it,” said Posey about the proposal last week. “It’s everything I’ve wanted to do. I finally feel like myself. I didn’t know if I was going to do it — I didn’t have a plan or anything. I was so damn nervous. I just asked her and it was the coolest thing in the world. Her reaction was the sweetest — I can’t even explain it!”

Posey said Gorlick has been “the one” since he was 12.

“I think she’s the coolest, most raddest person ever. She’s so nice and so cute,” he dished.

    Ridiculously adorable, right?

When Posey isn’t working on wedding plans, he’s preparing for his hosting gig on Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards.

“They made a great choice,” said Posey. “I think I’m going to be great for the show, the show’s going to be good for me, it’s just perfect.”

Posey says he’s totally thought out how he plans to keep the energy going at the award show.

“I may throw in a poop joke,” he said. “I want to begin the show with a song. I just thought of this I haven’t really discussed anything with the producers yet.”

Posey is also hoping for a repeat of last year — winning the Teen Choice surfboard in the category of Sci-Fi/Fantasy Male for his role on MTV’s Teen Wolf. The show, currently in its fourth season, won as well last year for best Sci-Fi/Fantasy show.

  • Marianne Faithfull Claims Drug-Dealing Ex-Boyfriend ‘Killed’ Jim Morrison

British singer Marianne Faithfull claims her drug-dealing ex-boyfriend “killed” Jim Morrison after accidentally supplying him with heroin that was too strong.

Faithfull, the former girlfriend of Mick Jagger, told music magazine MOJO she is now the only person alive “connected” to Morrison’s death, claiming she was in Paris with her drug-dealing boyfriend the summer The Doors frontman died.

Faithfull, who co-wrote the Rolling Stones song Sister Morphine told the magazine the late drug dealer, Jean de Breiteuil, was to blame for Morrison’s untimely death on July 3, 1971, at the age of 27.

Faithfull, who also struggled with drug issues, said she traveled to Paris in the summer of 1971 with de Breiteuil.

Upon their arrival in Paris, Faithfull claims de Breiteuil told her he was paying a visit to Morrison’s apartment. Having a bad feeling about the visit, Faithfull said she chose to stay in her own hotel room taking downers rather than accompany de Breiteuil to the apartment.

“I could intuitively feel trouble,” she recalls. “I thought, I’ll take a few Tuinal and I won’t be there. And he went to see Jim Morrison and killed him. I mean I’m sure it was an accident. Poor bastard. The smack was too strong? Yeah. And he died. And I didn’t know anything about this. Anyway, everybody connected to the death of this poor guy is dead now. Except me.”

Although no autopsy was ever performed, Morrison is believed to have died from a heroin overdose.

Official reports said he had a heart attack in the bath. The coroner did not suspect foul play so did not order an autopsy.

The mystery surrounding Morrison’s death lingers amid conflicting tales of the singer’s last days and a slew of conspiracy theories.

Morrison’s girlfriend at the time, Pamela Courson, said he woke coughing in the night before heading into the bathroom to soak in the tub. Another friend claimed he died in the bathroom of a nightclub after an overdose and his body was moved to his apartment in a cover-up.

De Breiteuil also died of an overdose in 1971, not long after Morrison’s death.

  • Marilyn Burns, Scream Queen of Horror Classic ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’, Dies at 65

Marilyn Burns, Scream Queen of Horror Classic ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’, Dies at 65

Marilyn Burns, the actress best-known for her role in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, died Tuesday at her home near Houston, Texas, a rep for the actress confirmed. She was 65.

“It is with sad news that I can officially confirm that actress Marilyn Burns passed away,” her manager, Chris Roe, told ABC News in a statement. “She was found unresponsive by a family member in her Houston area home. Her family thanks everyone for all their love and support, and asks for privacy at this time. Further details will be released later.”

A cause of death will be announced following an autopsy.

Burns played Sally Hardesty in the 1974 horror classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, one of the few characters to survive Leatherface’s gory killing spree with a chain saw.

Burns is also known for another gruesome 1977 horror film, Eaten Alive, directed by Tobe Hooper, the same director of Chain Saw.

As one of the best of the “scream queens”, she was a regular to horror films, including Kiss Daddy Goodbye in 1981, Future-Kill in 1985, and the Charles Manson TV movie Helter Skelter in 1976.

Burns also made brief cameos in the 1994 and 2013 remakes of Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

  • Mischa Barton’s Beverly Hills Home in Foreclosure

Mischa Barton seems to be in a bad place.

According to People magazine, the actress has not paid a mortgage payment in nearly five months and owes her lender upwards of $100,000.

The lender has allegedly placed the $8 million property in foreclosure, and unless The O.C. actress arranges an agreement with her lender or makes her payments soon, she will likely lose her eight-bedroom Beverly Hills home.

Barton purchased the property in 2005 and took out a $4.2 million loan in 2009.

The house includes eight bedrooms, 11 baths and three guesthouses on 1.2 acres, and is now listed for $8.7 million.

Photos of Barton’s home can be seen here.

This is just another setback for the beleaguered actress. Her career has floundered over the past few years, thanks in part to several highly publicized personal struggles. She was arrested for DUI in December 2007 and hospitalized 18 months later on a psychiatric hold.

The actress described the hospitalization ordeal to People as “a full-on breakdown.”

“It was terrifying,” she told the magazine. “Straight out of Girl, Interrupted. Story of my life.”

Barton seemed hopeful for a comeback with several recent acting gigs, including roles in Throwdown and Hope Lost.

“I’ve learned a lot,” said Barton. “I’m stronger now, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

Barton’s rep has yet to respond.

  • Jennifer Garner’s Rep Confirms The Actress Is Not Pregnant

Jennifer Garner has been the recipient of increased speculation that she is pregnant with her fourth child.

Several tabloids, including OK!, Star, The Daily Mail and The New York Daily News, recently claimed Jennifer Garner is expecting another child with husband Ben Affleck. However, the 41-year-old actress’ representative, Meredith O’Sullivan, said any pregnancy reports are just “not true.”

Garner said the couple plan “to be done” with having kids.

    Never say never!

In September 2012, Garner admitted to Ellen DeGeneres that Affleck has some undisclosed superpowers.

“My husband is kind of a wonder sperm kind of guy,” said Garner.

Garner appeared once again on Degeneres’ show in November 2013, telling the talk show host that her husband’s sperm “have so far been held at bay. There are 57 kinds of contraceptives used pretty much [every day]. Three of them are under the age of 8. But yes, so far so good, ha. Stop it, stop it in its tracks.”

Garner and Affleck, 41, are the parents of daughters Violet, 8, and Seraphina, 5, and their two-year-old son, Samuel.

“I think that’s enough,” Garner said. “I think we have provided the world with enough.”

The Alias star has confessed that, at times, her career acts as the means to escape stay-at-home mom duties.

“I respect women who stay at home with their kids, because I know how hard it is to do just that,” Jennifer told Hello! “I sometimes think that for me, acting is an escape from how hard it is to run a home.”

  • Marreese Speights Arrested for Alleged DUI

Marreese Speights, the Golden State Warriors basketball player, was arrested Tuesday in St. Petersburg, Florida, for an alleged DUI.

According to the Tampa Police Department, the 6-foot-11 forward took a breathalyzer test twice, blowing a .103 and .106, the San Jose Mercury News reports. The legal limit in Florida is .08.

Speights was initially pulled over for failing to yield the right of way while exiting a driveway. After a police officer took the 29-year-old aside and asked him to do some roadside sobriety tests, he was arrested.

According to the incident log, Speights was cooperative with police officers. After spending the morning in jail, he was released on $500 bond.

Speights, who celebrated his birthday the day before the arrest, played college basketball in Florida and won a national championship while attending the University of Florida.

The 27-year-old player is currently on the second year of a $11 million, three-year contract with the Warriors. During the 2013-14 season, he averaged 6.4 points and 3.7 rebounds.

“We are aware of Marreese Speights’ arrest this morning on DUI charges in Florida and are in the process of obtaining additional information,” a statement issued by the Warriors read. “As an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

  • Katy Perry Opens Up About What She Learned From Divorce

Divorce is never easy for anyone, and Katy Perry is no different. In a recent interview for her August cover issue of Rolling Stone, Perry shared a few lessons she learned from her divorce from Russell Brand in 2011.

“Now I know—first and foremost, self-love, and then give love away,” she said. “Back then it was mostly just me giving love away. I went through my ‘return of Saturn,’ is what they call it. It’s this kind of astrological thing they talk about, when the planet Saturn comes to teach you lessons, and either you reject them or accept them. And I accepted those lessons that I needed to learn. And if you reject them, it’s your midlife crisis that comes around at 50.”

The Roar singer has had her share of celebrity romances — from long-term relationships with John Mayer and Brand to fleeting hook-ups with Josh Groban and Robert Pattinson — and knows what it can be like to try to nuture a relationship in the public eye. Even so, Perry says it is unlikely she would date anyone who wasn’t famous.

“I’ve done that before,” she said “It’s not that they have to be famous, although there’s a level of understanding when they’re in the same business, you know?”

The 29-year-old said she believes only a famous person could really understand what it means to live in the spotlight.

“They understand what it means when you’re tired from a show or the tour’s exhausting you or if an interview went wrong—they know all the ins and outs, so you can just walk in to the house with a certain face and they understand, you know? said Perry. “Rather than, like, having to explain everything and that takes two, three hours.”

  • Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade ‘Save the Date’ Video Features Proposal

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s “Save the Date” video is wildly romantic and features Wade’s adorable proposal to the Being Mary Jane star.

TMZ Sports got its hands on a copy of the video sent out to family and friends invited to the upcoming Aug. 30 wedding in Miami.

The video includes the actual proposal, which was a total family affair. Wade called on his two sons from a previous marriage to help out with the proposal. Yeah, it was really adorable, and how could Union resist? The boys held up signs with the question, “Nickie, Will you marry us?”

Nickie is Union’s nickname, which comes from her middle name, Monique.

Following the boys question, Wade takes his turn to personally propose. Once she accepts, the whole family converges on the couple to celebrate Union’s acceptance of the proposal.

    Too darn cute, right?

The marriage will be the second for both Union and Wade.

We won’t likely see much from the actual wedding, however. Union has forbidden cameras and phones at the ceremony, and the couple have kept the exact location of the wedding a secret to preserve the “comfort of our guests and to protect our privacy.”

Apparently, guests will meet at a designated location on the day of the ceremony and then will be transported to the actual site of the nuptials.

The Miami Heat star and Union began dating in 2009 and announced their engagement with twin Instagram posts in December.

  • Jodi Arias to Represent Herself in Death Penalty Decision. Wise or Ridiculous Decision?

Jodi Arias is back in the spotlight once again with the news that she will represent herself in the penalty phase of her murder trial, despite the fact she has no legal experience, no college diploma and is only equipped with a GED she completed while in prison.

Judge Sherry Stephens granted Arias’ motion to act as her own attorney, but strongly suggested the convicted murderer reconsider her decision.

“I do not believe it is in your best interests. I strongly urge you to reconsider,” said Stephens.

Arias was found guilty of first-degree murder following the brutal stabbing of her boyfriend, Travis Alexander, in 2008. Arias admitted killing Alexander, but claimed it was self-defense. However, Alexander was stabbed nearly 30 times, had his throat slit and was shot in the forehead. Prosecutors said the murder was a premeditated act of jealousy in response to Alexander’s decision to end their affair.

At the time of her conviction, jurors could not reach a decision on sentencing. A new jury was selected to hear a second penalty phase per Arizona law, and prosecutors hope to secure the death penalty this time around.

While it may seem a preposterous idea for a convicted murderer to represent themselves, there are some attorneys who think it might not be a bad idea.

“It’s actually probably a good idea to represent herself,” said Daniel Horowitz, a San Francisco-based defense attorney . “She looks like a vicious psychopath with a ridiculous defense.”

On the other hand, Horowitz said the jury “may find her pathetic.”

“If she can get just one juror to bond with her on some level, even if they hate her, they’re getting to know her, and it’s harder to kill someone you know,” he said.

Her defense lawyers, who will continue to serve as advisory council, declined to comment on the decision.

Arias and her attorneys have tried repeatedly to sever their relationship — especially after a series of interviews following her conviction in May 2013 — to no avail.

Mel McDonald, a Phoenix defense lawyer and a former Maricopa County judge and federal prosecutor, believes Arias has nothing to lose in the decision to represent herself in the penalty phase, which will commence in four weeks.

“I think generally that anybody that represents themselves has a fool for a client, but it also gives her a way, if she’s out there making a fool of herself, to maybe invoke some sympathy from a juror,” McDonald said.

The death penalty will no longer be considered if the new jury cannot unanimously decide on the death penalty. In that case, the judge would sentence Arias to life-imprisonment with the option of possible release in 25 years.

  • Christina Hendricks Says She Turned to Acting to Survive High School Bullying

Christina Hendricks recently shared about her experiences of being bullied in high school and how it led to her love of acting.

The Mad Men actress said in a new interview with The Guardian that her life changed after her family moved from the small town of Twin Falls, Idaho, to Fairfax, Virginia because of her father’s job with the United States Forest Service. It was in her new town that the 39-year-old actress was terrorized by bullies.

“We had a locker bay, and every time I went down there to get books out of my locker people would sit on top and spit at me,” Hendricks said. “So I had to have my locker moved because I couldn’t go in there…I felt scared in high school. It was like Lord of the Flies. There was always some kid getting pummeled and people cheering.”

Hendricks said acting and going goth helped her deal with the pain of the bullying.

“My parents would say, ‘You’re just alienating everyone. You’ll never make any friends looking like that.’ And I would say, ‘I don’t want those people to be my friends,” she said. “I’m never going to be friends with the people who beat up a kid while everyone is cheering them on. I hate them.’”

It’s always interesting how some of the most painful experiences can be the inciting action for future happiness. Hendricks is now a successful actress and is happily married to Geoffrey Arend.

The actress is also very comfortable and confident in her decisions for her family.

Hendricks recently said she and Arend have had a “million conversations” about not wanting to have kids.

“I mean, they are a lot of work,” she conceded. “I think in my mid-20s I [wanted kids] because I was moving around a lot and didn’t have that sense of community, of being rooted.”

“I know plenty of people who don’t have children,” Hendricks added. “And I also get a lot of people who say, ‘Thank you for speaking out, my family don’t understand why I don’t want kids.’”

  • Nina Dobrev Takes Her Love-Life Rumors Into Her Own Hands

Nina Dobrev decided to take matters into her own hands and set the record straight on the plethora of dating rumors that have been swirling around The Vampire Diaries star.

Speculation over the 25-year-old’s romantic life is always a topic of conversation, but things really heated up during San Diego’s Comic-Con.

After long-time love Ian Somerhalder found a new girlfriend, Twilight actress Nikki Reed, people seemed hell-bent to link the Canadian beauty with a number of eligible young bachelors, including Orlando Bloom, who is really only semi-available until his divorce from Miranda Kerr is finalized.

E! Online reported that Dobrev was spotted with Bloom during Comic-Con. She and Justin Bieber’s enemy both attended the Playboy and A&E Bates Motel event. “They seemed connected like magnets,” a source said.

Apart from Bloom, some of the more notable celebrities recently linked to Dobrev include Baby Daddy star Derek Theler, Batman: Year One star Benjamin McKenzie, and Muse drummer Dominic Howard.

Dobrev apparently is a little tired of seeing her name linked with any guy for that matter, so she decided to make her own news by mocking the rumors on her WhoSay and Twitter accounts.

Her “suitors” included Steven R. McQueen, Zach Roerig, Matthew Davis, and Joseph Morgan.

And then the actress posted one more for good measure.

What matters most is Dobrev appears to be having a great time and enjoys being single for the moment. Obviously, she is a real catch, and she won’t likely remain single for long. But, while she is, she may as well have some fun.

“Nina is loving single life,” a source told E! News. “She is definitely enjoying herself right now.”

  • James Brady, Former Reagan Press Secretary, Dies at 73

James Brady, the former press secretary to Ronald Reagan who was permanently disabled in a 1981 assassination attempt on the president, has died.

“Jim touched the lives of so many and has been a wonderful husband, father, friend and role model,” his family said in a statement. “We are enormously proud of Jim’s remarkable accomplishments – before he was shot on the fateful day in 1981 while serving at the side of President Ronald Reagan and in the days, months and years that followed. Jim Brady’s zest for life was apparent to all who knew him, and despite his injuries and the pain he endured every day, he used his humor, wit and charm to bring smiles to others and make the world a better place.”

Brady was among four people, including Reagan, shot by John Hinckley, Jr. on March 30, 1981. Brady suffered a serious head wound in the attempt and most media outlets reported that Brady had died that afternoon. Hinckley later said he made the attempt on the president to get the attention of actress Jodie Foster.

When Brady’s friend, ABC News anchorman Frank Reynolds, was forced to retract the report, he famously yelled on-air to his staff, “C’mon, let’s get it nailed down!”

Brady survived the hours-long operation following the shooting but was left with slurred speech and partial paralysis. He was in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. The wound effectively ended his career as White House Press Secretary, although he remained in the position until the end of Reagan’s first term. Larry Speakes and Marlin Fitzwater performed his duties in his stead.

Brady and his wife, Sarah, worked tirelessly over the years for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence — formerly known as Handgun Control, Inc., which was co-founded by N.T. Pete Shields.

Brady became a frequent lobbyist for stricter handgun control and assault weapon restrictions. The “Brady Bill”, or more formally, the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, was named in his honor.

The White House press briefing room is also named for the former press secretary.

  • Ben Stiller Gets a Taste of His Own (Humor) Medicine While Rappelling With Bear Grylls

Ben Stiller, 48, got a taste of his own (humor) medicine when he went rappelling for the first time with adventurer Bear Grylls.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty actor is the next celebrity exploring the wild with Grylls on the NBC reality series Running Wild with Bear Grylls, which airs tonight.

Last week, Zac Efron had the time of his life jumping out of airplanes and dining on worms with Grylls in the Catskills Mountains.

For Stiller’s first ever rappel down the face of a cliff, Grylls decided to try and use humor to help the visibly nervous Stiller conquer his fear.

“Ben has never rappelled before, so I am going to try and make it a little bit fun,” says Grylls in a clip of the rappel. “I figured if he’s laughing, he’s not scared!”

Not so sure his tactic worked since the Zoolander actor continues to have that nervous look on his face all the way down the side of the cliff.

“This isn’t safe!” noted Stiller as the two rappelled into a ravine looking for food and shelter for the night.

On the other hand, Stiller did succeed in scaling the face of the cliff despite his fears.

Channing Tatum, Tom Arnold, Deion Sanders and Today show’s Tamron Hall will also try to beat the wild under Grylls‘ guidance in future episodes.

Running Wild is where I get to take some of our most loved Hollywood stars out on a great 48-hour adventure,” Grylls said in a promo for the series. ”And I think what has been powerful for me is seeing how the wild can transform people, and it can empower people, and it can reconnect them with who they are. I think the danger of fame is that it’s easy for people to go a little bit mad.”

Running Wild with Bear Grylls airs Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC.

  • Milla Jovovich Has One Thing On Her Mind — Another Baby

Milla Jovovich is only thinking of one things these days and it’s not acting or modeling or anything else for that matter. The one thing she is longing for is to have another baby.

The mother of six-year-old daughter Ever says having more children with her husband, Paul W. S. Anderson, is her top priority and doesn’t want to wait too long because she’s not getting any younger and doesn’t want a huge age-gap between the children.

“I want to have a baby and that is my number one priority,” said the Resident Evil Actress. “If I don’t do it now, it will get more difficult the older I get.”

Jovovich also seems to be under some pressure from her daughter, who is longing to have a baby brother or sister.

“Ever is always talking about how much she wants to be a big sister,” said the 38-year-old mother. “I have to do it before she is too old to enjoy it. I don’t have all the time in the world to think about it.”

It’s apparent the actress — who has turned down work to be with her daughter — considers motherhood her primary concern and thoroughly enjoys being a stay-at-home mom.

“I have been saying no to everything. There is talk of doing another Resident Evil at the end of next year, but I don’t want to do anything before that. I’m happy being a stay-at-home mum. Mum world is amazing,” she told Britain’s Hello magazine:

“When I’m home I’m not feeling any anxiety or stress over work, I’m a different person. My relationship with my husband becomes closer, too, when I’m relaxed, and that is really important if you want to have another baby,” said the family gal.

  • Megan Fox Talks Baring Her Body in Films and Lack of Ambition

Megan Fox says she never feels “ashamed” about baring her body for movie roles and considers it just “part of” the job.

“I don’t mind doing that stuff, I think that’s been a part of being an actress in Hollywood since the beginning,” said the 28-year-old actress at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles press conference in Los Angeles.

“I don’t feel ashamed or like I can’t be taken seriously while also wearing a tank top. If you don’t take me seriously when I’m wearing a tank top, that’s your f***ing problem.”

Recently, the beautiful actress said she thinks it’s “bizarre” to be as successful as she is and credits her lack of ambition for the success.

“I’ve never been very ambitious, which is why it’s so bizarre that I’ve had any success,” she said to the UK edition of Cosmopolitan.

“Most people make three movies a year. I barely make one. Sometimes when you’re not hungry for something, amazing projects fall into your lap.”

Fox says she is not a needy person and mostly keeps to herself, apart from one or two close friends.

“I consider myself a girl’s girl in that I’m not competitive, jealous or catty,” she reasoned. “But I don’t have a ton of female friends – I have one: Mindy, a facialist. I don’t have many guy friends either. I’ve never been a social butterfly. I don’t feel lonely or isolated. I have one really great friend and that’s all I need.”

  • Tara Reid Says Humor in ‘Sharknado’ Movies Comes From Playing It Seriously

Actress Tara Reid says the humor found in the campy disaster movies Sharknado and Sharnado 2: The Second One comes from the actors playing their roles very seriously, even though the situations the actors found themselves in were completely ridiculous at times.

“Even though the situation was crazy, you had to play it serious,” the actress told reporters in a teleconference recently. “If you were playing it, laughing all the time, the story line wouldn’t even make sense. It’s like taking it serious in such an absurd, crazy environment and that’s where the jokes come in. That’s where it gets funny, so you really do have to commit to your character and also know what you are playing. And being in that situation that you’re in and playing it serious, then there comes in the humor.”

The SyFy Network’s Sharknado movies tell the tales of freak weather phenomena that dump man-eating sharks from tornados on cities like Los Angeles and New York. Both installments were huge hits for the network and became social media phenomena of their own accord.

In both installments, Reid plays the character, April, and together with her ex-husband Fin, played by Ian Ziering, they take on the sharks.

Reid told UPI the success of the first installment did not affect her approach to playing April.

“It was exciting that the first one was such a hit, but I don’t think that changed how we performed or affected us any way like that,” said Reid. “We were hoping to make another big, fun film that people would enjoy.”

The 38-year-old actress said the excitement to reunite once again to film Sharknado 2 was palpable for the entire cast.

“The vibe on the set was great,” she said. “We got lucky. Everyone truly got along in the movie and had a great time with each other and I think that shows.”
