  • Prince Charles Honors Late Actress and Philanthropist Lynda Bellingham

Prince Charles paid tribute Thursday to late actress and philanthropist Lynda Bellingham, saying she will be “hugely missed.”

The British royal praised the late star, who died on Oct. 18 at the age of 66 after losing her battle against colon cancer, for being a wonderful ambassador for his charity PRIME (Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise) and a “marvelous actress.”

The 65-year-old Prince Charles referred to Bellingham during a speech to delegates at the launch of his new PRIME initiative in London on Thursday.

“Before referring to the work of PRIME, I did just want to pay, if I may, a special tribute to Lynda Bellingham, who was, as many of you know, a wonderful ambassador for PRIME.

“Personally I was greatly saddened to learn that she had passed away. As you know, she was not only a marvellous actress but also someone who worked tirelessly for others.

“So she really will be hugely missed.”

The Faith in the Future star was slated to attend the launch of the campaign before her cancer spread to her lungs and liver.

The campaign was launched to encourage employers to give jobs to more than 1.1 million people over the age of 50 and who want to work again.

Following his tribute to Bellingham, Prince Charles called for employers to hire more people aged 50 and over, describing the “missing million” as a “valuable asset.”

“For what it’s worth, to me one key fact revealed by this research is that employing older people does not mean younger people are crowded out of the labor market,” he said.

“The number of jobs in the economy is not set. There is room to employ younger people and older people in a mix of skills and experience that creates better business.

“This research makes it clear that older workers are not a burden but a valuable asset.”

  • Jaylen Fryberg: Washington HS Shooter’s Social Media Posts Reveal a Desperate, Love-Sick Teen

Jaylen Fryberg, identified as the shooter in Friday’s rampage at a Washington State high school, was apparently a well-liked, popular student, who was recently voted freshman homecoming prince.

However, recent social media posts may lead investigators to the darker side of the youth, who killed one other student, shot at least four others, and eventually took his own life.

The Tulalip Bay, Washington youth’s posts seem to reveal a head-over-heels-in-love teenager who apparently grew more and more upset and desperate when the relationship fell apart.

“I can’t believe I just witnessed a shooting,” Austin Joyner, a student at the school, said on Twitter. “Kid came into the cafeteria and walked over to a table and pulled out the gun and shot 4-6 shots at students sitting down.”

Kobe Baumann, 14, told the paper that he was with Fryberg in his Marysville-Pilchuck High School English class shortly before the shooting, and that he appeared to be kind of nervous, according to the Seattle Times.

“He sits right up in the front,” Baumann said. “He got called on, but he just kept his head down and didn’t really say anything.”

Fryberg’s social media accounts depict a teen with a passion for sports, music, hunting, family and his Native-American culture.

Many of Fryberg’s social posts are about the girl with whom he was smitten.

But, later in June, something has clearly happened in the relationship and the posts become negative, full of expletives. Fryberg seems to threaten something sinister in August.

Jarron Webb, 15, confirmed to the Seattle Times that the shooter was angry at a girl who would not date him.

He sent his final tweet on Thursday, the day before the shooting.

Many took to social media in the aftermath to share their grief over the incident.

“Over a girl he was heartbroken and didn’t know what to do,” tweeted a 16-year-old, who said she was a cousin of the shooter. “Jaylen wasn’t a bad kid he just made a mistake.”

  • Cobie Smulders and Taran Killam Expecting Their Second Child Together

Cobie Smulders and Taran Killam are expecting their second child together.

A rep for The Avengers: Age of Ultron star confirmed to the Los Angeles Times Tuesday that Smulders is pregnant, but declined to share when the baby is due.

The Captain America: The Winter Soldier actress starred as Ted Mosby’s longtime love interest, Robin Scherbatsky, in How I Met Your Mother.

Killam, of Saturday Night Live, had a recurring role on How I Met Your Mother as Gary Blauman. The popular show ended its ninth and final season with a controversial ending in March.

The couple were married in 2012 in a star-studded wedding celebration and celebrated their second anniversary in September.

While she was pregnant with daughter Shaelyn in 2009, producers had their work cut out for them during the show’s fourth season trying to hide her growing belly, as well as that of pregnant costar Alyson Hannigan, from the cameras.

Smulders will be back in theaters in May reprising her role as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. She recently appeared on television’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., ABC’s spin-off series based on the blockbuster movie franchise.

She’s also slated to costar in Andrew Bujalski’s Results with Guy Pearce next year.

Seyfried will take part in the 14th annual performance of The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway benefit Nov. 17. The event, touted as an “extreme rite of theater,” has actors, writers and directors writing, directing and performing six original short plays in a 24-hour period.

Quite the undertaking, the marathon begins at 10 p.m. Nov. 16 when six writers, six directors, 24 actors, two musical guests and a production staff gather at New York City’s American Airlines Theatre. After each of the actors share a costume, prop and special skill, their assigned writer must create a ten-minute play by 7 a.m. the following morning. Seyfried is currently filming Seth MacFarlane’s Ted 2, the follow-up to MacFarlane’s 2012 raunchy comedy about a foul-mouthed Teddy bear.

Her first big break came in 2004, with the movie Mean Girls. The multi-talented actress and singer went on to star in HBO’s acclaimed polygamy series Big Love and then starred in the blockbuster movie musical Mamma Mia!

Other movie credits include Dear John, Letters to Juliet, Gone, Red Riding Hood, and Les Miserables.

She is also slated to play Mary, the mother to Wendy Darling and her brothers, in the new Peter Pan film adaptation, Pan.

  • Minka Kelly and Chris Evans Back Together? Not So Fast, Folks.

Minka Kelly and Chris Evans were photographed picking up lunch from Hugo’s Tacos in L.A. Tuesday, and rumors that the two may be back together are rampant.

“Chris stayed in the car while Minka picked up the order,” an eyewitness told E! News, at the same location where the two were caught making out in October 2012.

    But not so fast, folks.

“It was just a friendly lunch,” a source insists.

The duo also spent time with his family in late September, stepping out for karaoke night at Lavender Asian Cuisine & Bar in Evans’s hometown of Sudbury, Massachusetts, according to People.

“It looked like a family night out,” an eyewitness said. “They were with a bunch of people, including Chris’s family, and Chris and Minka sat in the back while other people in their group got up and did some karaoke.”

The couple, who began dating in 2007 and broke up for good last year, have never discussed their on-again-off-again relationship.

After their final breakup in 2013, Kelly kept busy by starring in the first and only season of Fox’s Almost Human.

The 34-year-old actress also filmed a movie, The World Made Straight, alongside Jeremy Irvine, Haley Joel Osment and Noah Wyle and will star in the 2015 movie, Papa, with Giovanni Ribisi and Joely Richardson.

As for Evans, he tried his hand at directing, spending the past several months directing and starring in the movie Before We Go.

“It’s good to be done,” he told IndieWire. “It’s intimidating to be talking about it, because I am so used to being an actor, where your job is a small piece of the puzzle.”

Evans was also romantically linked to his childhood crush Sandra Bullock after the two were noticed in several public outings.

“We’ve since married and it started breaking apart, so we separated,” said Bullock, making a joke of the rumors. “We filed for divorce, and I hope everyone can respect our privacy. But we’re going to remain friends and share responsibility of the farm animals we’ve taken on, because you just can’t abandon the animals.”

Evans also is reprising his role as Captain America in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which will hit theaters on May 1, 2015.

  • Lisa Ann: Is the Porn Star Dating Notre Dame Wide Receiver Justin Brent?

Lisa Ann, the world-famous porn star, stepped out Wednesday with Notre Dame wide receiver Justin Brent at the New York Knick’s preseason game against the Washington Wizards.

Tongues are wagging after the freshmen player showed up at the game before the Fighting Irish plays Navy Saturday at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.

The wide receiver from Speedway, Indiana, smiled sheepishly in photos snapped of him and the porn star, who is most famous for her portrayal of Serra Paylin in the porn classic Who’s Nalin’ Paylin?

TMZ is reporting that it was Lisa Ann who made the initial move, giving Brent her phone number.

Lisa Ann couldn’t seem to wait to post some pictures of her and Brent at the Knicks game, who were reported to be “all over each other” during the preseason game, and one picture afterward of the two in bed cuddling. The photo of the two in bed was later deleted.

Just in case you were wondering. Brent is 18, Lisa Ann is 42.

Apparently, this isn’t the first time Lisa Ann has dated a college football player. According to Lost Lettermen, she was seen in September spending intimate time with Ohio State tight end Jeff Heuerman, complete with photos of the encounter.

And it’s not the first time football players have hooked up with porn stars. Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots tight end, had an infamous encounter — complete with pictures — with porn star Bibi Jones.

    Boys will be boys.

Brent, a graduate of Speedway High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, was a four-star prospect and the No. 14 wide receiver in the 2014 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Wonder what Notre Dame will say?

  • Lauren Hill, College Basketball Player Dying of Terminal Brain Cancer, Set to Play ‘One Last Game’

Lauren Hill, a college basketball player diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, is set to play in “one last game”.

Tickets sold out in 30 minutes for the game scheduled to be played at Xavier University’s Cintas Center on the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 2.

Diagnosed with pediatric cancer, Hill has an aggressive brain tumor that is quickly taking her life.

When she signed on to play basketball with Mount Saint Joseph College in Cincinnati, Ohio, she didn’t know about the cancer.

With doctor’s fearing she may not even live until December, her coaches petitioned the NCAA to move the first game of the season to an earlier date so that Hill could play. The NCAA granted the request and the game was moved to the larger Cintas Center to accommodate the larger than expected crowd.

The afternoon, which is likely to be memorable for so many and on so many levels, is becoming more than just an average college basketball game.

Brooke Desserich, founder of The Cure Starts Now, a charity that focuses on trying to find a cure for the most aggressive cancers in an effort to cure all cancer, is organizing congruent events on the afternoon of the game.

“Not just the basketball game, but a few presentations that are going to happen during halftime. I’ve been sworn to secrecy about what’s going to happen, but everyone really wants to show their support, and I’m sure that it’s going to be an incredibly inspiring game,” Desserich said.

Proceeds from the sold-out game will go to The Cure Starts Now.

As Hill practices for the big game, the young player is finding support from so many.

Cincinnati Bengal Devon Still, whose daughter, Leah, is also battling cancer, stopped by practice and surprised Hill on Tuesday morning.

In Hill’s native Greendale, Indiana, commissioners and the mayor declared Nov. 2 as Lauren Hill Day.

“It’s just a great opportunity to spread awareness, and I’m really happy to be making a difference. A much bigger difference than I thought I could have ever made. That’s why you have to never give up and keep trying and keep chasing your dreams,” Hill said after the proclamation was made on Tuesday evening.

Despite all of the emotions that Hill must be experiencing, she is consumed by one.

“Excitement to step out on that floor and be wearing that jersey and those shoes and that uniform and hearing the crowd and feeling the floor vibrate and the rumble in your chest when the roar comes. I’m just excited for it. Beyond excited,” she said.

  • Nancy Grace Cited as Reason for Dismissal of a Juror in Jodi Arias’ Sentencing Retrial

Nancy Grace was cited as the reason for the dismissal of a a second juror after he reportedly approached a journalist and asked her if she was the HNL television personality.

The first juror was released Tuesday because of family issues.

The second juror on Wednesday allegedly approached legal analyst and freelance journalist Beth Karas, who is covering the trial for her website, and asked if she was Grace.

Karas reported the incident to the judge after realizing he was a juror. A hearing was held and the judge dismissed the juror.

A jury deadlocked on the first sentencing of the 34-year-old Arias, who was convicted of murder last year in the 2008 death of her lover, Travis Alexander.

It took several weeks to select the jury from a pool of 400. There are now only four jury alternates left.

    The sentencing retrial began Tuesday.

During his opening statement, prosecutor Juan Martinez showed a photo of the slit throat of Alexander, who also was shot and suffered about 30 stab wounds in his Mesa, Arizona home.

Prosecutors portray Arias as a vicious killer who brutally attacked her boyfriend in a fit of jealousy and rage after he broke up with her and said he wanted to see other women.

Defense lawyer Kirk Nurmi, on the other hand, said Arias should be given a second chance at life, citing Arias’ clean criminal record. He also claims she suffers from mental illness and is a victim of child abuse.

“It’s up to you to write the final chapter to this story,” Nurmi told the new jurors, who are deciding on whether she deserves death for her crime.

The sentencing re-trial was set to begin reconvene Thursday morning in Phoenix.

  • Chrissy Teigen and John Legend Put Hollywood Hills Home on the Market

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have listed their Hollywood Hills home for $1.995 million.

Legend bought the Asian-inspired home in 2007, and now that the lovebirds have just celebrated their first year of wedded bliss, perhaps they felt it was time to upgrade.

Built in the early 1960s, the beautiful 2,000-square-foot home boasts three bedrooms—one of which was converted to a custom-built recording studio. The home features unique handmade furnishings, and the backyard is a haven with fountains, an outdoor bathing area and a tranquility pond. The chic interior includes cathedral-style ceilings, basalt stone and baked oak flooring, and hand-made teak cabinets.

Celebrity interior designer Don Stewart was hired to add an earthy modern aesthetic to the already gorgeous abode.

In 2013, the couple spoke to Architectural Digest about their home.

“This house has all the qualities I strive for in my own work. It’s subtle and beautiful, but it packs a modern punch,” Legend told the magazine.

The Hollywood Hills home is the couple’s secondary residence — their primary residence is in New York. Legend and Teigen have reportedly been hunting for a larger home in Los Angeles, so perhaps a permanent move to the West Coast is on the horizon.

Legend recently told the Wall Street Journal that the couple is looking to expand, leading to speculation that Legend may mean they are thinking of expanding their family. Teigen has said that she wants “a lot of babies” with her husband.

Still, it’s going to be hard for the couple to part with their home in the hills.

“If we could have the twice-as-big version of this place, we would get it,” the Grammy Award-winning singer said. “We love the feel of this home.”

  • Sadie Roberston Keeps Her Morals in Check While Dancing a ‘Romantic’ Rumba on ‘DWTS’

Sadie Robertson was nervous about dancing the rumba with partner Mark Ballas this week on Dancing With the Stars, noting that the dance is known as a “sexy” dance.

In a montage of the week’s rehearsals for week six of the dancing competition, Sadie expressed her fears of appearing too sexy and lamenting how “awkward” the dance made her feel.

“I hope this week, it doesn’t come off as sexy, but it comes off as sweet,” Sadie said, standing by her religious beliefs. “It’s just so awkward to me, and when I get awkward, I laugh a lot.”

Ballas was aware of her feelings and honored her family’s morals. At one point, the dancing duo sent a clip of their routine to Sadie’s mother, Korie Robertson, who made suggestions on how to keep the dance modest. Ballas was a complete gentleman and very protective of his partner’s feelings.

“I wanted to find the correct balance between being appropriate and doing the right dance,” he said.

Sadie‘s stand on morality and modesty paid off — the judges raved about the performance, which was soft, sensual and romantic.

“Obviously, the rumba is a very passionate dance, and sometimes when we think of sexy, (we think of) raunchy,” said judge Julianne Hough. “This was a beautiful story about falling in love, and that’s what I loved about it.”

Guest judge Pitbull was equally impressed.

“It was simple, it was powerful. …. I felt it was believable. Both of y’all did an amazing job,” he said.

Even mom Korie seemed more than pleased and proud of her daughter. At the end of the performance, Korie can be seen saying to her companion, “That was Beautiful.”

The performance merited Sadie and Ballas a 35 of 40, bringing Robertson to tears at the announcement.

  • Ebola in Ohio: State Earmarks $800,000 in Emergency Funds to Fight the Disease

The state of Ohio has earmarked $800,000 in federal and state funds to fight a possible outbreak of Ebola in the state.

The Ohio Controlling Board allocated $300,000 to the Department of Health to stock up on protective equipment for hospitals, first-responders, and health-care workers, and another $300,000 to contract a Cincinnati, Ohio company to handle the cleanup of contaminated sites in the event a case of Ebola is confirmed.

There are currently no confirmed cases in Ohio.

According to officials, the state currently has enough protective gear for 16 “patient days,” which accounts for 240 suits. However, officials say health care workers would need to change their protective garments several times a day in caring for a single patient. The new purchase would bring the state up to 96 patient days.

“If a local hospital has difficulty receiving their supplies of (personal protective gear) in a timely fashion, we are able to come in and supply things until the supply chain opens back up,” Lynne Bratka, interim chief of the department’s Bureau of Health Preparedness, told The Columbus Dispatch.

Gene Phillips, chief of the Bureau of Environmental Health at the Health Department, said the disease is not transmitted through the air.

“There is some research to suggest that Ebola does not exist for a long period of time on surfaces,” Phillips said. “Once it dries out, the virus is relatively inactive and there are other disinfectants that can be used to clean those areas.”

However, bodily fluids of an Ebola patient, including waste from vomiting and diarrhea, “have to be treated with the most utmost care,” he said.

“In an abundance of caution we are making sure we are ready and available for the worst-case scenario,” Phillips said.

Ohio reduced the number of people being monitored from 153 to 142 on Monday. Those being monitored may have made contact with 29-year-old Amber Vinson, the second Dallas nurse to have contracted Ebola, who flew to and from Cleveland between Oct. 10 and 13 to plan her wedding.

  • Monica Lewinsky Speaks Candidly About Bill Clinton Affair and Joins Twitter, Amassing 35K Followers in 8 Hours

Monica Lewinsky, the woman best known for an infamous affair with President Bill Clinton, spoke candidly Monday about the aftermath of the scandal.

Lewinsky, 41, spoke about the affair with Clinton at the Forbes Under 30 Summit in Philadelphia, including the blow the scandal caused to her self-esteem.

“Frankly, I came close to disintegrating. No, it’s not too strong a word. I wish it were, but it isn’t,” said Lewinsky, tearfully. “A relentless mantra in my head: I want to die.”

She recalled how her life turned upside-down after news of the affair broke.

“Overnight, I went from being a completely private figure, to a publicly humiliated one. I was ‘patient zero’ – the first person to have their reputation completely destroyed worldwide via the Internet.”

According to Lewinsky, who now works on behalf of victims of online humiliation and harassment, she had to construct a separate mental reality to cope with the public display of her private life.

“During this period, I gradually came to realize that there were two Monica Lewinskys … There was me, and there was public Monica Lewinsky,” she said. “A somewhat curious character, constructed by political factions and the media. Constructed with a little fact, and a lot of fiction. My friends didn’t know that Monica. My family didn’t know that Monica. And this Monica, the real Monica standing here today, didn’t know her either.”

Lewinsky — who joined Twitter on Monday and amassed more than 35,000 followers in the first eight hours — first broke her decade-long silence about the affair in May, when she wrote an article in Vanity Fair, in which she said, “It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress.”

She detailed the days leading up to and following the scandal, and expressed some self-forgiving over her mistakes.

“I fell in love with my boss,” she confessed. “In a 22-year-old sort of way, it happens. But my boss was the president of the United States. That probably happens less often.”

  • Teresa Romero, Spanish Nursing Assistant Infected with Ebola, Declared Free of the Disease

Teresa Romero, the Spanish nursing assistant infected with Ebola, was declared free of the disease Sunday.

The 44-year-old, who contracted the disease after treating missionary priests with Ebola after they returned home from West Africa, has recovered after two weeks of treatment in Madrid. She reportedly has no traces of the virus remaining in her bloodstream, according to test results released by the Spanish government.

Romero is believed to have been the first person to contract Ebola outside of West Africa in the current outbreak. Two U.S. nurses contracted Ebola after treating a Liberian man who died at a Dallas hospital.

Romero, who tested positive on Oct. 6, told officials she remembered touching a glove to her face after leaving the hospital room of one of the priests, Father Miguel Pajares, who died Sept. 25.

Romero, who was treated with blood plasma from people who have been infected with Ebola, remains quarantined at Madrid’s Carlos III hospital and must have a second Ebola test to ensure that she is virus free.

Her husband, Javier Limon, is one of 15 people who came into contact with Romero after her fever began. None have shown symptoms of Ebola.

“I am very happy today, because we can now say that Teresa has vanquished the disease,” Limon said Sunday night.

Romero still does not know that her mixed breed dog, Excalibur, was euthanized on Oct. 8, much to the outcry of people on social media. U.S. authorities have quarantined the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel belonging to Nina Pham, the infected Dallas nurse still recovering from Ebola in a Maryland hospital.

“We were merging onto the expressway and all of a sudden we heard an explosion. I thought we were being shot at so I told everyone, ‘We’re being shot at! Put your heads down!’ And everyone put their heads down,” she told Us Weekly. “We waited a second and we didn’t hear another shot, so I lifted my head up and turned around, and the whole back window was shattered and gone, not even a stitch of glass was left.”

  • Chelsea Handler Explains to Ellen DeGeneres Why She Always Appears in the Nude

Chelsea Handler appeared nude — again — in a shower scene with Ellen DeGeneres for her late night talk show Chelsea Lately‘s finale.

And, no, Degeneres wasn’t exactly nude. Instead, she wore her clothes with a plastic shower cap on her head. Handler, on the other hand, was totally nude.

After the hilarious shower scene aired, Handler opened up on why she loves to go nude on camera on an Oct. 16 episode of Ellen.

“I like to be naked because I don’t take my body seriously,” Handler said. “People do, and that’s nice for them, but I think bodies are so silly.”

Handler told the audience that their agreement stipulated that they would both appear naked in the shower scene.

“No, never. I was never ever going to be nude. There was never an agreement of me being nude ever. Never. In your head, I was nude,” said DeGeneres.

Handler insisted that it was true, saying there was even a contract that DeGeneres signed.

“The hard part for me is, I mean, you don’t know what it must feel like to be in a shower with someone that you respect and you admire and you have clothes on and I don’t,” said Handler, seeming very serious. “That was a very low point in my life.”

“It was quite something to be standing there with someone that I also admire and like very much and… you don’t even care. You’re just naked. And then at one point she decided to bounce, like to jump up and down and bounce over and over again, which was very difficult to get through that scene,” admitted DeGeneres.

Handler said another reason why she likes to appear nude is because she likes to flaunt what she considers her best feature — her breasts.

“I like to take them out whenever I can, and be like, ‘Hey look! Pretend this is my whole face!’” Handler said.

  • Michelle Monaghan’s Film, ‘The Best of Me,’ Slammed in ‘Good Morning America’ Review

Michelle Monaghan’s new film, The Best of Me, has been slammed by Good Morning America‘s movie critic David Blaustein.

Blaustein didn’t seem to have too much to say about Monaghan’s performance, but he had plenty to say about casting and the plot of the Nicholas Sparks’ tearjerker.

The Best of Me, the latest film to be based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, is so embarrassingly bad, it hurts to write about it,” wrote Blaustein. “If you consider the bad casting, ham-handed dialogue, obvious digital manipulation of the film, sloppy sound mixing and far-fetched plot points, then you just might be able to enjoy what I believe to be one of the worst movies of the year.”

The movie tells the story of high school sweethearts Dawson (James Marsden) and Amanda (Monaghan), who are reunited after a 21-year separation when their mutual friend, Tuck (Gerald McRaney), dies.

Dawson has become a man who mostly keeps to himself and works on an oil rig, while Amanda, for her part, is now married to a jerk and spends her days as a dutiful wife and stay-at-home mom to her teenage son.

Blaustein’s biggest beef with the acting seems to be with Luke Bracey, who plays the young Dawson alongside Liana Liberato, who plays young Amanda, in the film’s depiction of flashbacks to the characters’ younger days.

“And here’s where the movie implodes,” said Blaustein. “There’s nothing wrong with Bracey as an actor, but this has to be one of the worst pieces of casting I’ve ever seen. He’s supposed to be the high school version of Dawson, but have you ever met a high school student with crow’s feet?”

“In real life, Bracey couldn’t pass for an undercover cop in high school, never mind the fact there’s virtually no resemblance between him and Marsden. Bracey’s casting is such a distraction, it’s a cinematic disaster. Liberato is much more convincing as a young Monaghan,” Blaustein continues.

“As for the plot: Dawson’s crazy, drug-running father and brothers, his relationship with Tuck, and his star-crossed relationship with Amanda past and present — it hardly matters. Other than the actors’ efforts to try to overcome this flaw-laden film, The Best of Me’s only other redeeming quality is that it finally ends.”

Blaustein gave the film one out of five stars.

What did you all think of the movie? Did Blaustein call it?

  • Jodi Arias: Sparring Over Legitimacy of Sex Letters Bogs Down Death Penalty Re-Trial

Jodi Arias has claimed that ex-lover Travis Alexander wrote letters to her apologizing for an alleged incident in which she said she caught him masturbating while looking at pictures of young boys.

Attorneys on both sides are sparring over whether the letters are legitimate and should be included as evidence in the penalty phase of the re-trial, which is slated to begin this week.

On Thursday, prosecutor Juan Martinez said the letters were phony. Arias’ head lawyer Kirk Nurmi countered, saying the prosecution’s “own [forensic] expert did not say those letters were forged” and said they were impossible to authenticate since they were copies, AzCentral.com reported.

The dispute, among others tied to possible evidence in the case, has caused the penalty phase retrial to be delayed until Tuesday. On Monday, Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens will hear arguments on the issues at a hearing.

Stephens said the new jury that will decide whether the convicted murderer is sentenced to death, or whether she will spend the rest of her life in prison, will hear the case at Arizona’s Maricopa County Superior Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for the 34-year-old, who murdered her former boyfriend Alexander in June 2008 via stabbing and shooting, after an initial attempt ended with a deadlocked jury.

Before the new jury can start hearing the case, the judge will hear from the defense, which believes the death penalty should be taken off the table.

“The defense has challenged the death penalty,” said azfamily.com‘s Mike Watkiss. “They want it thrown out. I think bear in mind the defense is now playing to appellate courts. They’re no longer playing to Judge Sherry Stephens. They want to set a record that they can later appeal on.”

The judge has also ruled that there will be no live streaming video like there was for Arias‘ first trial and no broadcast video until after the verdict.

“I think it’s sort of a suspect judgment on the part of Judge Sherry Stephens [to ban video until the verdict], but here we go,” Watkiss said. “These are the rules.”

The waitress-photographer was convicted of first-degree murder in May 2013.

  • Amy Poehler Shares Intimate Details About Drug Use and Divorce From Will Arnett

Amy Poehler recently shared a few of the secrets about her personal life that will be detailed in her upcoming memoir, Yes, Please.

In excerpts that surfaced via RadarOnline, the Parks & Recreation star shares intimate details about her previous drug use and the trauma of divorcing Will Arnett.

The 43-year-old mother of two revealed that she was a drug user in her 20s, trying cocaine and ecstasy.

“I tried cocaine, which I instantly loved but eventually hated,” the Saturday Night Live star wrote in a chapter called Obligatory Drug Stories.

“Cocaine is terrific if you want to hang out with people you don’t know very well and play Ping-Pong all night. It’s bad for almost everything else… the day after cocaine is rough,” she wrote.

Poehler said she has also dabbled with Molly, a more potent form of Ecstasy, and remembered getting high on Molly at the Upright Citizens Brigade’s New Year’s Eve party.

“We all danced and drank water and loved each other,” she wrote. “I also remember the next day when I thought I had no friends and I was so sad I wanted to sink into the carpet and permanently live there.”

But the hangovers proved to be too much for the mother of Archie, nearly six, and Abel, four.

“The next day is the thing I can’t pull off anymore,” Poehler said. “How do you explain to a four- and six-year-old that you can’t play Rescue Bots because you have to spend all day in bed eating Cape Cod potato chips and watching The Bicycle Thief?”

Poehler also revealed that she still smokes pot occasionally, but not nearly as much as she once did.

“I can’t perform, drive or write stoned, and therefore I smoke pot a lot less than I used to,” she wrote.

The Golden Globes co-host also details her divorce from Arnett. The pair announced their separation after nine years of marriage in September 2012 and the Arrested Development star filed for divorce last April.

“Getting a divorce really sucks,” the actress wrote in her memoir. She said the divorce was just “too sad” and “too personal” to discuss in great detail.

“Imagine spreading everything you care about on a blanket and then tossing the whole thing up in the air,” she wrote. “The process of divorce is about loading that blanket, throwing it up, watching it all spin, and worrying what stuff will break when it lands.”

Poehler said divorce makes you “feel incredibly alone,” and you are “constantly reminded by society” of how frequent and common divorce has become.

“You aren’t allowed to feel special, but no one knows the specific ways you are in pain,” she wrote.

Poehler, who is currently dating Parks and Recreation co-star Nick Kroll, said that she continues to be “proud” and “beyond grateful” that Arnett is her sons’ father.

“I don’t think a 10-year marriage constitutes failure,” she said.

Yes, Please will be released on Oct. 28.
